Title: 3rd Annual Christmas Trade Revised
Post by: Manager on October 22, 2009, 11:27:34 am
Hey All,
It is amazing that it is this time of year again!  Wow time flies by fast.   Shocked   :o

If you want in please email her the following information by NOVEMBER 15th  (She will be drawing the names the following Monday Morning):

Sarah@primitivearcher.com  (she prefers emails to p.m.s)

1. Your name
2. Your message board name
3. age if you are younger than 21
4. mailing address
5. Right Handed/Left Handed and poundage (this does NOT mean you will receive a bow)
6. and any other information you think will be handy to the person who has drawn your name.

On the NOVEMBER 16th, you will be given the name of the person you are making a gift for and she will contact you with their information.

Make sure that your gift is mailed by January 1st 2010.  A deadline is good for everyone.  Many will NOT receive their gift by Christmas date because many will be using that time off to make their gifts.  SO DON'T WORRY.   ;D

Also once you have received your gift, you will need to email Sarah that you received it and what it was for her record keeping.

Posting pictures makes it so much fun so please do so...   :)

Most of all have fun and enjoy the act of creating and giving!!  :D   O:)

THis is really a blast!

We hope that you all will participate in any way that you can.  And that you please don't stalk your postman or post woman too much in the December and January months.    >:D

Last year we had several that missed out on this great fun and excitement. We saw some incredible talent and amazing gifts given, and most of all we saw people going all out to bless the person that they had drawn.  I know that for me it was really a kick planning and trying to think of what that person would enjoy. My first gift idea didn't work out but the back up plan did.  Don't worry that your skills aren't all this or that. Just sign up and have some fun.     Keenan

Hrmm i wouldnt consider this the "3rd Annual Christmas Trade Revised"

Not to be disrespectful or anything, but the topic should be changed to the 1st Annual Xmas Trade. You are not the starter of the Xmas Trade, and i find it not fair at all, for you to take what my dad started and turn it into your own thing. Ban me if you must, but i am voicing my opinion, and i could really care less anymore.. this community is quite sad, if you're gonna allow someone to pretty much steal what they did not start, and get all the credit for what they did not start, then ban the person who started it because he was disapointed and upset that someone stole his idea...

Ban me if you must, unban my dad who has devoted ALOT of time on this message board, and the PA community! I want everyone to know and read how unfair this is...

My post has no personal threats in it, and nothing disrespectful at all, take it as you want it, because i know it will be edited or deleted... I used to enjoy coming to this website and looking at everyones masterpieces. Read what people had to say in the Anything Else section, but lately i just don't see the point anymore. Have a good life, this is my last post do what you want with it... you just lost 2 or maybe even more Primitive Archer subscribers for your self-seeking, embezzling ways... Bye

You are not the starter of the Xmas Trade, and i find it not fair at all, for you to take what my dad started and turn it into your own thing.

Kyle, your post is about as silly as it could get. Newsflash, Xmas Trade has been around for a long time. Yes your dad decided to bring it up here a couple of years ago, but he doesn't own it. My wife has been doing it in 3rd grade for years. In fact, I did it when I was in 3rd grade as did my dad some 60 years ago. The fact is that someone else brought it up this year and your dad said he didn't think he wanted to bother because last year was so bad.

As for another Christmas Trade I have mixed feelings as every year I end up holding the bag when someone doesn't come through
with their gift. I feel that its my show and if someone doesn't come through then its up to me to send a gift out. Now I understand
that sh#@ happens but its still your responsibility short of death to make good on your gift. Let me think on it for a day or so eh.

A lot of people stepped up and supplied gifts last year when the ball was dropped. I know at least 5 gifts were sent by moderators. Because of this, PA decided to take care of it another way when your dad said he didn't know if he wanted to even participate. Yes your dad decided to get back in, yes he was offended when PA told him their plans. But when he decided to attack PA and started a campaign of personal attacks on Marie and Sarah in posts, emails and Pm's he went to far. Everyone knows we wont tolerate personal attacks on ANYONE around here. Your dad is a great guy and a friend to many on this site. But that does not mean that the rules apply any less to him than anyone else. He has called me many times demanding that I ban someone for less, well he insisted on stamping his feet and throwing a tantrum and attacking people until we the moderators and administrators stopped it.  We didn't kick Dana out, he chose to leave when he refused to follow the rules that apply to everyone on this site. Justin

Personal attacks... hrmm funny because in more then one occasion ive had people personally attack my feelings and opinions on this message board, and i was the person to get warned or banned for 30 days for deffending my feelings. Did the people that personally attack me ever get warned or banned... no i doubt it becasue they were mods or long time posters. So i think your web sites rules should be aimed at everyone, not just the people you can discard so easy, and dont tell me that you guys don't, because i know it happens..

I'm sorry Kyle but you are full of it.

The fact is that people are booted when their attacks on others are of the same caliber as yours and your dads, I know because I have personally booted them.  Something else you don't seem to realize is that whatever happens here is the dominion of PA and because it is their site they are responsible.  Your dad was allowed to organize a Christmas trade here on behalf of PA but he didn't own it, just like all the other events that have taken place here over the years.  It seem to me from the way you and your dad are talking that you didn't start this trade for the benefit of PA or its members but for your own self aggrandizement.  Prove me wrong
Title: Re: 3rd Annual Christmas Trade Revised
Post by: Justin Snyder on October 26, 2009, 09:38:18 am
Kyle, I know you were warned the first time, then suspended for 30 days the second time because I did it both times. I sent you a PM and told you in person that I did it because I believe you deserve to hear from the person who did it. We didn't advertise it to the whole board because we believe people deserve a certain amount of privacy and respect, just like we haven't advertised to the whole board what was going on with your dad. Your dad kept demanding that I tell him who else has been warned and banned. I will tell you the same thing I told him. I didn't tell him that you were warned or suspended and I wont tell him who else was warned, suspended or banned. It is between PA and the individual. I will however tell you that others have been warned and/or suspended when you were and/or at other times. We enforce the rules across the board as fairly and evenly as we humanly can. Your dad and I have been friends for a long time and I hate to see him go as much or more as I hate to see anyone go, but he made the decision, we only enforce the decision. Now lets move on and let the board discuss archery again not soap operas.  Thanks, Justin

Hey all!  Let's have some fun with this.  Make sure you send Sarah your email about getting in the trade... November 15th is the cut off date.

If any of you have any questions regarding anything else feel free to p.m. me directly or any of the other moderators.

It's time to have some FUN!!!   ;D

All of this Crap has about taken all of the Fun out of this Trade...Why do People have to get so Childish? I know grade Schoolers that have more Tact than This! Don't Wear Your feeling on Your Shirt Sleeve....Quit with the Juvenile Name Calling and He Said....She Said SH%t....Kiss and Make Up....This is a Christmas Giveaway...not a "Look What I Am doing For Joe Blow" If you are in this for the Self Gratuity...or the Gift....then Get Out!! This is for Giving ....Pure Generous...Unlimited Giving....Who cares Who Gets What....Or Who Started What...I could care less if I am regarded as an Ass for this...but this the way I feel...I don't give to be recognised...I give because I can afford to...and enjoy doing it too....Heck...if it was not a criteria of the Trade to receive something....that would be just fine too....because I have given many things to Many People on this Board for nothing at all....except for that fact that I wanted to give them something....now I will Stop the Rant....and climb back off of my Soapbox....for I have Vented enough for One day!!

I know that this is hard to believe coming from such an Arrogant A$$ as Me....But I am hurt by all of this...it's like a Family fall apart...and all I can do is stand back and watch...Arguing and Name calling only makes the Rift Bigger......

Please everyone....Lets Forgive ....and Forget.....because I have Many Friends here on this Site...and I don't want to see any more venture away.....So Please Lets All try to get along.....and Have a Very Merry Christmas Trade

P.S. I already have My Gift complete....some little Boy....or maybe if Santa's Helper Picks one...Some Little Girl...will be very happy.... ;D

I have found that personal dramatics is par for the course for creative people in all fields. This place is no different.

I'll be signing up again this year.

Sarah, as soon as the deadline ends to sign up, will you be giving us our assigned giftee? I'd rather get mine done sooner and mailed off than later. So the rest of you know, I'll be saying yes to shipping overseas.

One of the " rules " is that photos must be posted...  It will be some time until I have the ability to post photos.
Can I participate in the Christmas Trade??

I think that it would be a good idea if you take a photo of the gift you've made and the gift you get from your sender. Just in case the other person doesn't.

Photos are helpful and make it so much fun.  They don't have to be high resolution or anything like that.  And if you have to wait on that it is fine.  maybe a friend can take one with their phone and email it to you..

Also if you feel nervous or insecure about joining the trade then you are exactly the person that should be joining.  It is a great way to get involved and learn and everyone just has a plain ole' good time...   :D

even the oldbies we won't mention any names tho...   :-X

This is a great time, we get to sneak around, build things in secret, send and receive PMs about guys who will never guess we are talking behind their backs...spend a little money that the wife can't trace........yeah, this is great.

Hey out there, you don't know who you are yet but you are gonna love , and use, what I'm making for you.  This is the real Christmas Spirit......i.e. give nice things, with an open heart and right up till you have a box in your hand never give a moment's thought to GETTING anything.

Merry Christmas!   That's what I say and mean.....no "happy holidays" around here.

Well folks I must say I am well pleased.
El D... I did not see any such rule... ;D However, I was not looking for such... ;D

I cut the box open as soon as I got home.  What else did you expect?

The calf skin bag is real nice.  It is going to go well with the hunting set I am working on for myself.  Should be finished with it soon.
My son called the bag a Man purse.

The Box Turtle medicine bag is cool.  It is dyed with leather dye, has turkey spurs, feather and small deer antler pieces on it. The photos of it wont post for some reason???

The FULL tanned deer hide is soft and feels real nice.  The cat took five minutes deciding if he should pounce on it or run from it. :D  Finely the cat decided it was harmless and flopped down on it to take a nap.  I took care of that...  >:D My son said I should make a pair of boxer shorts out on the hide.  I think a plains style quiver would be more better.

I am going to need some practice with the turkey call.  I (squawked) on it and the cat jumped off that deer hide and ran for the back door.  My wife covered her ears and my son laughed as only someone more that 6' 3" tall can do.

Once again I am well pleased.  THANKS WOODSTICK ;D

It is Friday for me here at work and I most likely want be around a computer again until the 30th.
So Happy Thanksgiving everone.
And now I will say buy, I am leaving this place in a universally recognized way.

I haven't had my Christmas trade gift yet, but if it's OK with you guys I am going to wait till 24th or 25th Dec to open it......That is if it turns up before that date ;D
I have loved seeing the great things so far but I kind of feel that it would be good if we all open the gifts on the same day give or take.....But that is just me really.
Thanks for your time.

Pat, I can't believe you drew my name. And you are right, it made me very happy! The craftsmanship is just amazing.

I will post pictures later in the week, but if you want to see what he made, look at the thread about his daughter's Christmas gift.

This will make a great shooting bag, Pat.

I am very, very grateful, and don't quite know how to say thank you, but thank you! Nicest thing Santa is going to bring me this year.

It will make a great shooting bag for muzzle loading. It will get used, but carefully, to protect it.

As for my gift, I'm close to completing it. I cant say who it is for, just that birch is involved in some way. Red ochre is also involved.

Here's what ARIES got.  A new tooled armguard, cut with a Celtic design in honor of his Celtic heritage.  Heavy duty and long enough for his long arms.  This was shot before the cords were put on it.   I rigged it like the ones from Three Rivers.

And a tooled notebook, cut with a Fleur de Lis, a pretty common design here in the far south end of Louisiana, as French occupancy is the basis of much of our local culture.  This little book is re-fillable with those little composition books you can get at most any school supply aisle in the stores.

Yes, there are some flaws in the leather......lots of my projects are made from scrap and offcuts I buy in big boxes at the local leather store.

Again, Merry Christmas Aries!!

I came home from hunting Sunday afternoon and had a box from Minnesota sitting on the table. I might not be home for Christmas so I opened it. Inside was one, cool looking, Gurkha style, Goldstone bladed, knife with a really sweet stand. Tim, thank you , very much. It is going to be right up front with the knives I've gotten from all my knapper buddies.
Your knapping has come a long way. That Goldstone has always given me fits because it always seems to step when I mess with it. Is the handle Poplar? And what is the wood the stand is made from? It matches the blade real close in color.
  Thanks, Sailordad, and MERRY CHRISTMAS.

Eddie,

i am so glad you like it.that is to date the longest blade i have made.
the handle i made from a piece of black walnut.it was a small branch that i worked down by hand with a rasp.
i did that to try and get the grain to match the arc of the knife.i left just a touch of sap wood on it in a couple of spots.
it has 15 coats of tongue oil hand rubbed on it to get the high luster shine like that.
the stand is made from either bloodwood or paduak(cant remember which i had laying on the bench)but i think its the blood wood.

MERRY CHRISTMAS

                                                        peace,

well iwasnt having very good day at work today, everything that could go wrong did.
when i came home from lunch i was in a bitter mood.
when what caught my eye.
there was a box wedged in m y front storm door.
well this got me curious,so once i got in the house and made my sandwich i sat donw and
opened the box up and man oh man that made my day.
i was elated with what was inside,it turned my crappy day into one of sheer excitment
i got a very very sweet hawk.
man i realy wanted one of these too.
this was a gift from John Ively(i hope i spelled it right hard to read sorry)
any how this thing is sweet, looks hand forged to me.
gotta ask how ya made the head.
all i know is it could be lethal.i took a half swing and just let the weight of my arm drive the hawk down and it went .75 inch ito a 2x4

thanks John i love it man

;D ;D ;D Got a box from J Dempler today, in it was a knife, and i mean a KNIFE! remember the movie crocidile dundee when he says, " you call that a knife, this is a knife" well this is that kind of knife. the blade looks like it's a quarter inch thick!, i love it! If that wasn't enough i also got a 'hawk forged from a railroad spike, awesome! add in a baggie of osage seeds (Joe did his research, as i asked about these in another thread) and the turkey feathers he used instead of bubble wrap and this was a fantastic christmas! THANK YOU Joe!

sorry the closeup of the knife is blurry, here are more details. The knife is 5160 spring steel, handle is lacewood with brass guards and elk antler spacers. As i mentioned the hawk is forged from a spike, then case hardened with a hickory handle.

The osage seeds will be more an experiment than anything, i'm not sure how well they'll do in Minnesota. I've heard of some osage in MN but i have never seen one. I'll also try to plant some in ND at my folks place, they have a bit of land that could use some more trees  ;D

that being said, if you are in this trade and feel like you are not able to complete your present...please let me know so that I can get a gift out to that person.  I would hate for someone to be left out...

I am in no way saying that someone has done this....but things happen, we all understand.  just send me a PM  and let me know.  I promise not to tell anyone!!

Haven't been on the site in a while and didn't get to particpate in the Trade this year.  Been a little out of pocket.  I finally got to get on the computer for a little down time and I really enjoy seeing all the great gifts this year.

Have a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.

Mike

Thats what I thought John...I thought that he was in Afghanistan ....Man the Sacrifices they have to deal with....I mean just being there fighting for Peace and Democracy is bad enough ....but to be away from everyone that You love for Christmas...and Months more to come...I just can not fathom the heartache They feel inside....Thank You Mike for your Selflessness...and Merry Christmas

Wow Catfish that looks good in your house. I feel very honored to see it on such a nice wall.

Thank for the compliments;

Nugget, It is has silver a sheen obsidian blade that is nine inches with seven exposed, wrapped with real sinew, then rattlesnake skin, then a blend of leather wraps with turkey and pheasant feathers, the end striping is burned on.

The balance point is exactly on the handle,  just in case you ever have to use it. ;D

I got my gift a week or so ago, and it was a gorgeous handmade knife from Mike (EL Destructo) in a hand-tooled leather sheath.
Wow. It is made of damascus steel and it's got a buffalo horn handle. It's a beauty. Thanks a lot, Mike. It'll be put to good use.
Still makes me smile to think of it. ;D

I'll try to get pictures up soon, the camera situation is interesting right now.

Here is my gift, made by Pat B. You can imagine how excited I was when I saw the return address on the box. Pat, sorry I havent gotten this posted yet, life has been crazy.

The leatherwork is superb, and it is sewn with real sinew. The antler closure is a nice touch, too. I plan to use this bag as a shooting bag for muzzleloading.

Thanks Keenan....I got this from a gentleman in Tennessee that Forges Damascus...it was an Ingot when I got it...I Took it to work and had it cut into 4 slices...so I have enough to make three more...now I just need to learn how to bring out the pattern better....I used Gun Bluing on this One...but I believe I am going to try Muriatic Acid on the next to see how it turns out....

I received this wonderful bow today from KEGAN.....what a shooter it is.. took it out and did some bunny hunting as soon as i got it... even made some meat for the pot.. big medicine in this snakey bow.  Let me tell you Kegan should be avoided in a conflict at all costs.. ;D :o  ;) He must be tougher than an old grizzly, he said the bow is sixty two at 28... i strung her up and shot it about twenty times.. after I picked my manhood up off the frozen ground and realigned my spine I realized that Kegan only put that number on the bow to make me feel old and weak ;D   he really built this one with some heft, I have one bow that draws seventy five pounds and this new one is quite a bit stronger than that.. perfect for elk and bear... I shot the head clean off the first bunny with a broadhead..  The second bunny the arrow went through killing it instantly and I found the arrow seventy yards away buried in a fence post.. what a bow.. thank you young warrior for such a wonderful gift..I will try and do it honor and keep the good medicine flowing in her..Hawk

A nice stitched arm guard with antler buttons and a double diamond stitched design, a stitched leather pocket/belt quiver with a carved arrowhead design and a brain tanned belt pouch with fringe and a bone closure from a deer Kyle killed and brain tanned.
Thanks so much Kyle! All are very nice and well made. My current arm guard is over 20 years old and not nearly as cool as this one so I'll be sporting these cool Christmas gifts this upcoming shooting season.  8)

Finished mine last night....sending out today  ;D  O:)  This project was a first for me and I put many hours into completing it, so I hope the recipient likes it  ???  It's not as good as most of the work I've seen on here, but showed it to one of my customers and he loved it!  I got a tought draw...a bit intimidating as I have a lot of respect for this person, but he should have it in a few days.

Coyote088 is who I made a gift for, and she has been a great sport about the delay. She is in Canada, and I'm pretty sure my gift never made it through customs. :( I feel aweful, and am bummed about this.

Plan B is to make another gift, minus the feathers, which may be why it didn't make it. which I will do as soon as we are sure it isn't going to make it.

I wonder how the real Saint Nicholas gets around customs restictions?

I didnt say what was in the package, only art supplies, no value, and checked the gift box on the custom's form. If they inspected it, then it was probably destroyed.

The tips are black walnut from a piece of firewood I saved from the stove. After i cut it and split it I just couldn't bring myself to burn it. The bow is 64'' ntn. I wasn't sure on your draw length so I kinda had to guess that you were somewhere right around 28''. I've had it all the way back to 31'' just to make sure their were no problems. It's about 55 lbs @28''. When I shot it in I used 50-55 pound spined arrows and they flew great.

I've already started another gift. I'm sure the first one will never make it. The postage I will have to eat a second time, but I keep my promises. I'll consider this gift a mid-winter gift.

justin, glad the arrow made it in one piece.  it felt a little hubristic sending you a copy of my booklet, but you had asked about it and i thought it would make a usuable gift.  wished i would have had time to make a couple more arrows.  i used one just like it to kill a hog two years ago so it can be used on a hunt.  enjoy!

The straps are old belts form the second hand store.  You can replace them if you would like.  They were all I could find.

Glad it made it in one piece.

First, let me say, what an awesome collection of gifts.
You guys are all truly talented.

My gift was coming from Dane and we were beginning to think it may have been rejected at the border, however, when I arrived home yesterday, I found a postal card on my door and I knew it had to be it.  Unfortunately the parcel could not be picked up until today. :'(

Dane made me an Atlatl.  It is made of birch with red ocre lining the dart slot finished off with 10 coats of True Oil and a 5' dart made of Ash.
The pictures do not do it justice.

I was so excited to get it home and try it!

My first throw I managed to get it to go about 10 yards! Once we get rid of a bit of snow or I dig out my snowshoes I'll improve on that!

Thanks Dane for the awesome gift.

It is self-knocked and fletched with tied on turkey feathers.
Had a chance to shoot it last night at the archery club, man does it fly nice.
:'(   Dang, no cane and no poision ropes with pretty skins.  Atlantic Canada bites!

I know the rules Sarah, but I think Auggie got lost. Most of you probably figured out what Auggie got anyway since what he described matches a post I made in flintknapping, so I will post the pictures here as well.  ;D

You are very welcome. Feels good to know you got it and enjoyed it.

The basket maker style is about my favorite atlatl style. The Plush Cave I made for you is about 2000 years old, and is a bit shorter than some spear throwers. It works well with shorter spears. The birch came from Conway, Massachusetts, and I harvested it about 3 years ago.

Experiment with different length spears and throwing styles. You did really well for your first toss. Most folks, me included end up tossing the spear a few feet our first time. :)

Nope, I'm not sure what the root is either. Most of the info that I know about the thing is summed up in one sentence: it was found somewhere on the east coast.
I'm glad that they got there all right.

Wow, The UPS man just came by and I was floored when he walked up with a long slender package from Joel aka (Deerhunter).
I first met Joel last year at our Central Oregon Rendezvous. I was impressed with this mans diligence and methodical patience. He worked relentlessly on a yew stave for three days and had one of the nicest looking bows in the works over the weekend. Unfortunately there was a hidden flaw in the stave and the bow blew up in the last stages of tillering. My heart broke for him especially with all his diligence and he had such a good attitude about it.
So To open a box and see the hit of a real nice tip with cherry bark backing I was floored and humbled.  As I pulled it out and started to gaze upon what I was seeing, I instantly knew the time, dedication and heart that Joel had put into this gift for me.  I must say I am very impressed with his bowyer skills. The tiller is perfect, and the bark backing is absolutely beautiful.
I will get some pics up as soon as I can.   Joel this will be a very cherished gift. Thank you my friend.   Keenan

I heard from Cowboy that he received his gift a while ago so I figured i would post some photos of what I sent. It's a turkey pot call, bronze glass playing surface over slate soundboard (i heard the slate soundboard came loose during shipping, hopefully it can be fixed). The pot itself is made from spalted oak. The striker has a curly hickory shaft with figured walnut handle. This was my first turkey call and I'm very pleased with how it came out. Hopefully Cowboy can use it to call in a big gobbler.

Wow, everyone really put forth an awesome effort this year great job guys.

Here are some pics of the bow that I got from Joel (Deerhunter)
The bow appears to be hazelnut withthe bark left on. I have not run the specs yet because I have just a little sanding and finish to put on. He left me a little room to work with for my poundage and it feels real close to my draw weight. So as soon as I get it final sanded and finished I'll post of some more pics and specs. Joel did a great job on the tiller and I've shot it a few times and was very impressed. Great bow Joel,Thank you.

I am assuming that there will be a trade next Christmas? I vote yes.

I also hope there will be a feature article on this trade for an upcoming PA.

Charles,

I have been extremely busy and I have not had time to get photographs of the arrows and quiver. I was supposed to have the last week of December off and that fell through. I was supposed to have last week of and that fell through as well. I did get the last few days off and I have finished Kegans gift just moments ago. Man has he been a trooper and VERY patient with me.

Charles I did go and shoot the arrows and they hit like a ton of LEAD. I have never had any cane arrows only cedar. These arrows are spined perfectly for a bow I have not shot much in the past because I could never hit anything with it. These arrows have changed the way I think about this bow. These are museum quality arrows and I hated to shoot them, but I just couldnt resist. They are excellent, and the quiver is great too!!!

Thanks Charles for the awesome gift!!!

Thanks Kegan for being patient with me. Your gift leaves in the morning USPS Priority.

Cowboy, old friend, you can stop by here and put your feet under my table anytime.  I am overwhelmed, amazed and very much humbled by the generosity and workmanship of your gifts.  Simply amazing.........items that are both useable and practical and at the same time are truly primitive craft........

These tools, or weapons......depending on the situation are ......well........back to square one.......amazing, overwhelming, generous...and all the rest.

here's what i found when i snuck into work today:   A large white PVC pipe, sealed with a screwed in endcap.  Inside there was a bow......a great bow, Carolina Oak and rawhide, a work of art, stained, varnished, ready to string.   Then I saw the arrows....three cane arrows with PERFECT turkey fletching, self nocks and amazing knapped points ninewed on.......and then the letter from Cowboy describing all these things, and making reference to a knife too!!   So, I got back into the wrapping paper and , danged if there wasn't a wonderful knapped knife set in an antler handle.   I felt like i should go shoot AND OPEN A MUSEUM all at once .

I did go out and shoot later, at home, different arrows of course.  That bow shoots like a dream.  I feel guilty shooting it......like I've taken away your best one......man, what a great stick.

Anyway, here's some pics.

I'm a naturally patient guy, probably comes from decades of marriage to the same woman, raising kids and owning a business.   Good things come to those that wait...old saying....very true.

Thanks again....cool stuff.   That knife slices limes very well, so that they fit right into a Gin and Tonic !!

Hello out there,
Nice start into the day with fighting against snow at 7.00, then breakfast, then training with our local Icehockeyteam (www.barracudas-brokdorf.jimdo.com). Again fighting the snow until the postman came with the Christmas Trade from Marc St. Louis. Inside 6 wonderful primitive arrows. Thanks Marc! Is it dogwood?
Regards Uwe

OK....now another type of shoot to look for......lol..   What is meadowsweet  and what does it look like.  Any idea of what area it grows in?

Meadowsweet seems to have a pretty narrow range.  Go 100 miles north or 200 miles south and they seem to disappear, perhaps due to being eradicated for agricultural purposes.  Its botanical name is Spiraea Latifolia

I`ve never heard of it. Will try to Google for it in a few moments. If I don`t find about it, does it carry fruits? Seems to be a bush?

Probably so in regards to agricultural pressure.  I checked out the USDA site for distribution:  http://plants.usda.gov/java/profile?symbol=SPALL  It occurs all over eastern NA.  When I checked distribution in my home state of Vermont, it was absent only from the county I grew up in, which is also the most intensively farmed county in the state (more cows than people)
