Well it seems that I waited on nothing or at least the message  that I received  says nothing has changed. LOL
so lets get at it
The 22nd  annual  Marshall  Primitive Archery Rendezvous
held at beutifull  Wilder Creek Conservation Club 19833 D Drivv South Marshall, Mi. 49068
Will take place May 22 thru 24th
This is a all natural  shoot no fiberglass bows please
We have a awesome 28 target 3D course  and a shorter course  we can do a broad head  shoot on
We do a bear across the pond shoot (90yds) and a couple other novelty  shoots
We have flint knapping  and bow building going on all weekend along wth various other  demonstrations  going on
Primitive camping a good shower and lots of fun
I want for us to do a selfbow challenge  similar  to what goes on at the Tennessee Classic  and Gary Davis plans to be here so it should be a good one!
There will be more info on the many happenings as the days unfold  from now till then so stay tuned and get ready forthe fun to begin!

Guy any idea where the areal target range will be out back? I ask only because my "crew" is usually there plenty early and as you know we have our little niche back there we fill up. We don't want to be in the way of you guys or have to move.
Title: Re: Marshall 2015
Post by: Buckeye Guy on March 31, 2015, 09:21:27 pm
Chris
I will be there to check it out and make sure before the rest of you
When you get there we can lay it out to be sure we have room and talk it all over
my thought is to shoot from near where the lane opens into the field  toward the cross corner so if it works out no problem for the side where you have been camping
if it does not come out like I am thinking it should
we just don't  do the arials
you know it's  all about having fun so no stress

I have been looking for others to talk it over with
does your memory say we have room or not ?
its kinda hard to measure it from here so I am just going off of memory
if you don't  think we can do it I will call him and tell him not to bring them
Title: Re: Marshall 2015
Post by: PEARL DRUMS on March 31, 2015, 09:59:00 pm
Don't cancel it on our account. I think if you shot from just inside the opening and to the left, it would be fine. We'll just have to check it over and adjust, aint no thing but a chicken wing! Of course if more folks show up to camp it may be too full back there, and that's good to! :)
Title: Re: Marshall 2015
Post by: Buckeye Guy on April 01, 2015, 08:00:15 am
Ya  Chris That is the thing that has me wondering if we should do aerials , folks seem to like to spread out in the back field  and I am not sure if we should give up the potential camping spots
We do have other places to camp just seems folks like it there
The folks that want to come join in the fun is growing daily and that is a good thing !
Maybe this will force us into opening the other camping area that has not been used for several years !

Hope to see ya all soon
Title: Re: Marshall 2015
Post by: blackhawk on April 01, 2015, 08:06:21 am
There's plenty of room for arials IMO.

I got a better idea...how bout Human Aerials. Someone bring a catapult that can launch a human into the air into the pond, and as there flying thru the air we all throw soft blunt tipped flu flus at him in the air. Hell..I'd be guinea pig first for that.    >:D

Looking forward to Memorial Weekend!

Not sure this old body would stand up to very many tosses

Are we there yet!!!!!!!!!!!!!!????

I've built a couple of trebuchets now, the first one was nothing but logs and twine. Heck of a lot of fun, and I'm starting to know what the geometry should be for all that stuff.

Quick question - is the camping area suited for hammocks, or should I bring a tent?
Title: Re: Marshall 2015

Probably  better bring a tent, if you want to use a hammock you may be farther away from the action than you wanted  to be .

I think I may just tent it this year. I love my little mini trailer for the shower and fridge, but the club has a great shower room and why not use it right? Plus, it got old last year having Pauly knocking on my door at 3 am to let him in because he is scared to sleep in his tent.

Sorry to say that i'm not going to make it to Marshall this year, my wife had the crazy idea of planning a vacation that week but her plans did not include Marshall,,,,,WTF?????   We'll have a family meeting over this.

Anyway I won't be there this year, but I will be as the TN Classic this weekend and will start planning to be at Elk Hall.  Pearl, do you have the dates for that one?

You guys have fun and based on the banter, you might want to plan all nocturnal events to avoid getting toasted.

Also, this weekend at the TN Classic I plan to finish the bow that you've been coaching me on.  If I limit my socializing, and get some work done, I'll post some pics when it's shooting.  Just have to finish the tillering and handle shaping, then it will be ready to shoot!

Guy, you were telling me on the phone we might do a broadhead shoot on the 2d targets. Is that still true? Just thinking may want to get the word out so people show up with them.

This will be 1st trip to Marshall.  Often do cooking over open fire, but can use charcoal when open fires are discouraged or fuel not plentiful. Should I plan on bringing the charcoal bag?

Im with Bill, this might have been my favorite so far. The weather was spotless and cool. I love that. I actually worked on a bow for a few hours and got it done, that felt good. Ate like kings, as usual. Meeting a few more PA guys was great. Met goat and his bride, GREAT people and very glad they stopped by. Bowmo and Jackson Cash also made it in, good dudes and good times for certain. As usual, I left woth more staves than I arrived with... :)

One small piece of advice, don't think your going to out-shoot Mike (knoll), it aint happnin'. Guy missed the kill zone maybe one or two times over 30 shots. And those few that where off a bit still would have done the job.

I took 3 pictures and aint none of them better than what Clint put up.

Looks like the poor fella spent a lot of time making those spankin' new handles. Shame ol' Dan-O gets to beat on her until the rightful owner comes along.

That hackberry looks like it turned out nice, too bad I had to leave before the tillering took place. Looks like it needs some tweaking...... :)

Great weekend, as always really enjoyed seeing my PA friends again. My grandson had a blast, wore me out with his shooting from morning until dark. We stayed through until 10:00 am this morning so he could get the most out of the experience, shot the big course again before we left and when we got home a couple hours ago he grabbed his bow and went straight out to the back yard to shoot more. I think I can safely say
the kid shot 700+ arrows in 2 1/2 days there, he felt he had to empty his quiver at every target. :)

Thanks to the folks at Marshall who made it all happen, it was a real nice event in a beautiful setting.
I got some pics., will load them and post shortly.

I forgot to mention P.Newtons bow.  I think that is the fastest shooting selfbow I've ever seen.  The targets would shake and dust would fly when his arrows hit them.  That thing was impressive.  I'm pretty sure he could deer hunt with blunt tipped arrows this fall.

Thanks for the compliment Clint. I can't take too much credit though. I showed up at Marshall last year with a MWirwicki bow blank and I received valuable help and advice on tillering it, between there and Elm Hall. Thankfully I didn't ruin it finishing it up. It is a nice shooter. I had a great time shooting with everyone this year, loads of fun and fantastic people. Thanks to everyone posting pictures, helps with the memories.

Welp, the rocks on the 3-d course kicked my arrows rears. I was quickly forced to borrow some.  ::)

Next year I will be better prepared.

Cane arrows inspired by the toughness of Pauls hill cane arrows, and the spottability of Dan's pink fur tracers.

I will probably still break and lose them but at least I have a few new ones.
