Slippery elm recurve
« on: August 30, 2009, 05:17:26 pm »
Just finished this bow,and gave the tru-oil a week to cure, braced it today, shot a few through it ,and took some pictures.
Slippery Elm   ,65" tip to tip,63 1/2" nock to nock  ,  1 7/16" at fades,slightly tapering to 1 3/8" near mid-limb,then tapering to 3/8" tips,with osage overlays.
Scarlet Rit dye on tips, walnut stain on rest of bow.Western diamondback skins.dyed calfskin grip, heat treated. This is my first Elm recurve, and I really like this design with this wood.it is very smooth to draw and shoot, and has excellent speed. It's 60# @28",and came out of a 4" diameter tree.I've got 8 pictures so I'll put 4 on this one ,and post another.  God Bless

Nice bow Pete.  I've always liked the way Elm looks like after heat treating.  Really brings out the grain

Wow Pete, that is really an exceptional looking recurve! The tiller looks perfect, great finish work with fine attention to detail! I really like the job you did on the tips as well, nice shape! :)
