It's not going anywhere, trust me. The patch is thick so that area doesn't bend so there's no chance of it moving or splitting longitudinally like you drew. And besides, have you ever tried to split a piece of Hophornbeam? this stuff doesn't want to separate even when you try to force it with a wedge... If I were to continue bending the bow towards the back without the patch I think that could happen but bending it towards the belly as in bracing/drawing the bow i don't think it will..the back of the bow would have to do some serious stretching... I'm sorry but your theory doesn't hold much water with me.
