Elm Static Recurve

Not very often I make this style of bow anymore and it's been awhile since I have made one but I was recently asked to make 2 of them.  The Elm I used for this one is not that dense but it sure is elastic.  I heat-treated almost 9" of reflex into this bow including the recurves, and it kept most of it.  Makes for bracing this bow an exercise in itself.  The bow is 63" N to N with limbs just over 1 1/2" wide and pulls a bit more than 55# @ 28".  I shot it with a 600 grain arrow and it is fast.  Here's some pictures

Absolutely beautiful!!     Painting, skins, exotic woods and fancy handle wraps are nice, but a really well crafted bow is pretty enough all by itself.    Ron

Don't think words accurately describe this bow or your skill. But it's simple proof that you are indeed a master bowyer, Marc :)

that one looks really good! should have made 3, one for me!  haha.  i bet it is fast, the tips are rather narrow

Go ahead Josh.

Barrage. They're hard to make and a bit hard to brace.  Not a bow I would recommend for a beginning archer

Awesome bow, Marc!  Now the forbidden question - any remote idea of what species of elm this is? It looks a little like red (slippery) (stinky) elm. Think it might be that one?
