Rejuvination
« on: August 12, 2007, 06:06:47 pm »
Well, I have been fixing up some of my "not-so-hot" bows lately, so I figured I would try my had at fixing up my very first good selfbow, an overlong deflexed bow with heavy handshock and an annoying rest. So, I piked it, recurved the tips (which was alot of fun trying to get around all the twists in the bottom limb ;D), removed the rest and reshaped the handle, applied a wild walnut stain, and retillered it. So here it is, 66" long, 65" from side nock to sidenock, around 60# at 26". It is now quite the screamer and arrow flinger; very stable and hard hitting- and quite accurate :).

Very nice Kegan and a great save.  I never throw "messed up" bows away. I have made some good shooting bows from them. Experience can make a not so good bow into a great bow. ;) You did an excellent job of bringing this bow back from "the corner".    Pat

Thanks everyone ;D. It is, like 99% of my bows, hickory. I couldn't see putting it away as I had quite a time with it, and I'd been having fun with recurves lately so I figured to fix it up a little :). I've been having more fun making bows because I actually have more than one arrow to shoot. It's a first  :D. Gonna see if it can thump some squirrels and make some meat :).

very nice bow, kegan.  just a quick question: is the lower limb recurve pulling out or did you have less to start with?
