Hey everyone! I just stumbled onto the primitive archer boards a couple days ago while doing some research into the English Longbow and immediately signed up. I'm a freshman in college, and got into traditional archery in 2009 when I started making board bows (which I still do to this day) and am currently trying to finish a bow before the archery deer season closes. Up to this point I've only built basic flatbows/American longbows in the #30 to #50 range, but the next project I want to tackle is an english longbow/warbow.

Anyway, that's pretty much me in a nutshell. I can't wait to do some reading and get to know you folks a lot better!

Welcome to PA, Shiloh. Like Adam said there are lots of friendly, helpful folks here that are willing to share what they know.

I have family scattered across western WA from Bremerton to Kelso/Longview.  What part of WA are you in?

I'm in Lake Stevens, which is just a few minutes north of Everett. Thankfully it's close enough to college that commuting isn't a hassle, especially on the bus.

In reply to Pat B - Unfortunately my most recent bow (a red oak board I tried to turn into an ELB) snapped completely at mid-limb, due to some poor design choices on my part. The other one, which I named "Ugly as Sin" recently took a crack in the upper limb, so I retired it to the shelf on my wall.  :'( But for being my first succesful bow after breaking four before it, it did surprisingly well for the two and a half years of its life.

I live in Ilwaco WA (astoria).
sounds like you're ready to try a bow from a stave- I reccomend Vine Maple!

Hey aaron - I've actually got a vine maple stave in the garage right now!  :laugh: I cut it about a year and a half ago and recently tried working it down some, but the Gerber knife I was using just isn't cutting it. So until I can find a decently-priced drawknife, it's not being touched.

I got an uncle in Marysville that is really involved in primitive archery and helps organize a number of shoots and bow building classes.  He kinda looks like Pat B, poor sod.
