Elm möllegabet tiller questions
« on: February 25, 2015, 02:58:46 pm »
Hi

I have a möllegabet of elm and I don`t know if the tiller is ok or horror.  ;)
What do you guys think?
The right limb is the upper.

Kind regards
Andi

Pretty good, actually.  The curve of the bottom limb is perfect, to my eye.

The upper limb has more bend close to the handle, and less close to the lever.  Try to get that curving out right to the transition from bending limb to stiff limb.

Once you do this, the top limb will be weaker.  If it isn't too much, you might call that positive tiller, or slightly weaken the lower limb to balance them.

Something odd though, is the bottom limb longer?

Might as well make them short, save some wood to keep warm.

Hi

Yes the bottom limb is about 1-2" longer.

huh. Any particular reason why? I've been a fan of longer upper limbs, from slightly to excessively, but haven't seen any long on the bottom that I remember.

The fade on the left limb needs to move more.

Hi

Do you think it would be better if I take the bow at the middle?

Kind regards
Andi

Id suggest resting the handle in the same place your hand will be. That is what matters most.

+1 on Pearl Drums last post.

I wondered about the lower limb being longer, but I assumed without looking closer that they were same length and what I was seeing was due to the bow's position in the cradle.

I also am curious why you made the bottom limb longer.  I'm not criticizing, but I would like to hear the reasoning, or see the bow you ae copying.

Hi

The limbs are same length if I put the hand (pressure point) in the Middle of the grip.
But which tiller does look better to you?

Kind regards

Neither do I, but that's partially because I don't have one ::)

A draw shot would help us tell for sure; you want to tiller the bow the way it'll be shot.

Hi

After 3 weeks sickness I shot some photos of the tiller at draw.
What do you think about it?

Kind regards
