Can't wait to see that one finished out. Wow, CBG, you learn quick.
I found many years ago that it is much easier and more rewarding working with those that don't know anything than those that know it all.

Gonna steam the handle tonight and try to get everything lined up.  I hope that knot at the handle plays nice during the operation.  I'm pushing away from the knot to the right to get my alignment so I think I should be ok.

I do have a "plan b" if things don't go as planned ;D

H.E.  Cool I've put 3hrs into straightening this kind and still 1" away. It's been a bugger of a job. I want give up on it. There's a good bow in there some where. Plus PLAN B is on its way

Gutshot, I know how you feel. I've been working all day on my stick trying to bend it but no luck really. This is my last try for the night:

My plan B that I worked on a bit today trying to straighten it gave me some bad news. I cut it with no leaves on and thought it was Ash but after some extensive research tonight I've figured out it's gotta be Box elder, which sucks :(
Better luck tomorrow.

I spent the afternoon taking the red bud down some more, chased down two more rings and it looks much better I think.  Here is the knot cluster after taking off two more rings.

Loope - the back of the redbud looks good.  Did you figure out if you can avoid the knot on the edge of the stave when you layout your bow?  I would try and avoid if I could - knots on the edge of the limb without plenty of wood flowing around them on the outside of the knot are problematic at best.

I'm a liking that red bud too....

Ive been trying to get this limb straight without cuting it down to my deminsions. Since I got it so close should I go ahead and trim it down to go the extra now. Or try another heat session this evening with it like it is. The complete width of the stave?
