Mike that was a branch that came out when I belly split that stave. You can leave as is or take it down some. I like it sticking out there some.

Not so thick on the rings. 3/32 or so. Not often the wiggles match up like that in a stave. After pealing the stave I seen the grain and moved the layout down the stave a bit. Arvin

Got some work done on mine today. String is all lined up and the tips flipped and one limb heat treated. Here's a couple of pictures.
