Turkey opener
« on: April 02, 2017, 08:07:50 am »
All set but I got caught moving my gun when I heard one come in. 12 ga English Fowler I made.

A guy told me yesterday that it was illegal to have a box turtle shell because they are a protected species. Anybody else hear this same thing? My friend told me the game warden confiscated his call and told him he could be fined a hefty fine for having it.

Nice set up, Eric.    You probably should check with the state regs about the turtle shell.

I've never heard that rule in florida, Eric. I pick them up all of the time.

Checked with a TN game warden, he said a box turtle call was OK. My friend had his confiscated in Bama.

Eric, Love the turtle shell call, you are correct, the legality of owning them is determined by state.
As a callmaker I would never kill a turtle just for the shell but if the turtle has already passed on to the great pond in the sky, his shell makes an awesome turkey call. :G

Good luck hunting!

Awesome set up. I also use a turtle shell when he out grows it and leaves it by side of the pond. Usually insert slate. Have never had any breed of turtle confiscated. John

Eric's got a build along of a gun here that has quite a few thousand readings!  Yeah, you might say he makes 'em!
Guns have triggers. Bicycles have wheels. Trees and bows have wooden limbs.
