Snakey Indiana osage

While at Mo Jam Clint and me managed to horse trade a bit.A part about these bow making gatherings I like to get involved in.I got this snakey stave from him in the deal.I've roughed her out to dry out inside the house and will work on it later.It has some nice leopard like reddish spots all though it back and belly.It ought to make a pretty snake bow.Thanks Clint.

Perfect stave for you to work some magic on Ed. If it were mine I'd have a tough time deciding whether to leave those leopard spots exposed or cover them with a snake skin.

A snakey stave is rare.  A red spotted snakey stave is even more rare.  I say let the natural beauty show.

I had planned to let it be what is on the back.It does'nt have a string on it yet so I'll see what happens.I get that reddish hew in the Iowa osage too many times but it's mostly in the early wood as streaks all along a growth ring.Not as random dots like the stave from Clint.

It's got about the right degree of angled curves to look like a snake.Made some in the past close to similar but not quite as pronounced.This one has fairly thin rings so it'll get plenty of length on it to reduce stress.

George....Clint did back in feb. when he cut it.I chased a ring and it's reduced quite a bit now to a roughed out bow.I had'nt put more shellack on it yet.It's a good precaution too though your right.
