Is a sheath expected, too?  I'm not bad at leather, but that's not exactly my favorite part.

I'll have it done before August.

Don't know if I speak on behalf of anyone else, but  do what you feel most comfortable with.  When you get your name you can also search their past posts and interests to make a judgement call.  Some of the guys here are amazing leather craftsmen, and I could see how it may feel a little intimidating.  Likewise,  some may be weaker in that area, so if you want them to carry and use your blade they might need the sheath.

Personally,  if I get one of the bone or stone knives it will most likely go in my framed collection on the wall so a shesth wouldn't be necessary as a tool holder, except as part of the display.

Fair enough.  In that case, whoever I get should probably tell me if he's right handed or lefty.

I'm all eager anticipation.  I love trades and I love knives, so this is about perfect for me this month.

Thanks to all who have answered my first-trader questions.  I appreciate it.

Just make an ambidextrous crossdraw sheath, easy peasy

Regarding the "which handedness" question. Just add it to your entry post above.

Well, Bubby, that's one option, but not one I've done before.  I don't really like doing something for the first time as a gift or trade.  It means I'm planning to give something other than representative work.  I may end up doing something like that, but it will depend partly on who I draw for a recipient.

This is going to be fun.

Here's a simple saddle sheath, works either side

I've got my blade formed and hafted to the handle but I'd like to get a little farther along before I post any pics.  :OK
