Leg Bone MUK Knife - To ring in the New Year
« on: December 31, 2021, 04:26:39 pm »
I haven't made a knife in a while but it started with a request for a Muk without scales. The future recipient wanted to add his own scales. So I made this:

Then I just continued to use up the piece of metal. Right now it's heat treated and in the tempering oven. In looking through potential handle materials, I found this whitetail leg bone. It seemed like an interesting concept so I decided to try it. Dug out a little piece of brass to close off the leg bone. I'll just be epoxying it tougher.

We'll see how it comes out!

Happy New Year. Wishing for a great 2022 for you all!

Looks nice
Don did you build your own forge and burners? I've used a coal forge for years I bought a propane one but the burners won't burn right.

Here is my build

As you will read if you go through my build, I did make my burners but I would not do it again. Zoeller sells burners, they would not cost much more (if any more) than the parts, and would safe a whole lot of aggression.

I like the blade shape and the leg bone is a perfect fit.

That came out really lovely; the lines and curves all work together graciously.
