Raw Pedernales flint
« on: October 18, 2011, 12:37:45 am »
Started working on a Cahokia point today, but it broke in half on me. Didn't seem proportionately after it was reshaped sooo. Here's another corner notched point. Pics aren't very good & the symmetry is a little off. Its a side pic , an edge pic & looking down the tip pic. I tried to give it a little twist w/ the tangs. I didn't like the out come so I won't do that again . Hope everyone enjoys.

I think that looks pretty cool.  Love the corners on it.

Practice, practice, practice. If something isn't working out like you want, try another way ! Everyone does it a little differant, but its the results that count.

mine usually end up alot smaller than i wanted also from trying to thin but like you said practice is all it takes.  I had some treated flint ridge material but i did not have much at all most of the bifaces i made that were about thin enough i broke.  I need to see how some people support them i am doing something wrong in that area.

When I thin w/ percussion I find support & platforms are the key to success. Make sure your platfrom is below center & it is not too strong . Sometimes small pressure flakes from the backside can help w/ that.

I have not even been trying to make a point i have just been working on getting forms thined out.  and notching some of the thin flakes just to practice.  I am not gonna put another point on here until i have one that is thin enough for me.

Man, you have some amazing notches, and from tough material.
