calling it done
« on: May 29, 2012, 07:23:41 pm »
I started working on this with the intentions of making a cumberland. Halfway through the process I had a hinge and it created a bump in the middle of the platform. I removed the hinge but it left the platform a little thick. I had a nice biface going so I went with it and finished it as a blade. White flint, bone handle and black pine pitch should make for a beautiful knife.

Thanks that means a lot coming from you. Now if I can just put everything together that I have learned these last 2 weeks I can make a cumberland.

MAN! That is a beauty John!!  My points are still about a quarter that long.  I always seem to break them in half if they double the size of my hand pad width.  Great Job Man! dpg

I always used a hand pad till Shannon showed me how to use a leather pad. I only used a leather pad on this point and did no basal thinning. I only thinned from the side after bifacing. I was surprized how well that worked.

 8) I always used a leather pad until Tower sent me some of that conveyor belt for a hand pad.  ;D  I see what you mean though, I may need to incorporate both pads. have a gooder, dp
