Primitive Yew Longbow
« on: July 05, 2016, 06:08:49 pm »
Presenting "Mitle" My new selfbow. She is 66" ntn, 68" ttt and draws 60# at 28". Whoa this one took me a while! I started it back in January and just got it finished last week! Slow and steady got it done though. I was given the stave by DC, and he gave me lots of help getting it straightened out. Thanks Don! It had a twist in it that I didn't know how to deal with, but we got it out. Then three different times with a heat gun to line up the tips. I am really happy with how it turned out, the bow shoots really nice, no hand shock or stack. The slim grip works well for me. There is some cracks in the heartwood that I am not too concerned with, they haven't changed after a hundred shots or so. The tips and arrow rest are antler. I did two coats of shellac and three of tung oil that I will add more to before our damp hunting season here on the wet coast chasing blacktails. I am building a dozen sitka spruce arrows from the shafts I am selling through Beaufort Traditional, and they seem to be paired up well. Looking forward to hunting time with this combo! Thanks for looking, I love seeing all the cool stuff the PA community is doing. This bow is no show piece but it will help me get some groceries for sure!

I like it. Job well done.
I found many years ago that it is much easier and more rewarding working with those that don't know anything than those that know it all.
