Figure 4 Deadfalls (update)
« on: November 19, 2019, 10:53:23 am »
First off I know most places illegal. Yesterday set up a figure 4 in my enclosed shed, first nite bait was stolen. :o Talked to my mentor and he told me it was easier catch a bear than a mouse, ??? I needed a very light trigger pull to getter done, very difficult to set up. Need more hands, anyway made some adjustments and my second day trap check was a collapsed deadfall and when I lifted my weight there laid a very flat deer mouse ;D Next I wonder how they taste ???  Wonder how many pelts to make a nice coat, hope I got a big enough stretcher. Bob

Bob,
Good job with the figure 4. I could have used you earlier in the fall at the cabin. I ended up using a 5 gal bucket baited with sunflower seeds floating atop water with a ramp leading up to the rim. I have them under control now but that first cold snap they were a nuisance. In comparison to the weight you used for the mouse, how heavy of a weight would be needed for a bear I wonder?

Nice kill!  Probably need about 1,000 to make a coat, though!  Don't know how much meat they have!

If you have to pull the trigger, is it really archery?

Brian, I was told to use 2 to 3 times the weight of animal you are trying to catch, 20# coon 60# of weight? I need to get a whole lot more experience before I can give many opinions. Your repeater trap is a good one for mice, I might be all winter cleaning out the shed of mice. Light light trigger not easy. Bob

Dang second pic needs rotation rt.  Easier to trap mice than work computers UGH.

Glis, caught another one today, think I have the lightness figured out. Your link trap is a beautiful carving pc, don't take this wrong but the intent of the figure 4 is the simplicity 3 sticks and a weight and could made with a sharp edged rock. no string, no tools just plain primitive and still effective. Caught another one today, 3 days in a row. Wonder how many live in that old shed, no food just shelter, Bob

My one old Hunting blind will have an average of about 8 every time I come to it. No food other than what they gather and store. Lots of fuzzy nesting materials they gather. Many times babies right in the middle of winter.
