Some advice on straightening yew stave please
Ruddy Darter:
That looks great simk, I really like the look of knots done like that..., 8)
I will remove what remnant of knot is left and follow the grain.
I'll view treating knots a little different now, thanks again all. :OK

Just added some pics....I got the centre down to dimensions and heatgun and oil just above and below the removed knot, I managed to get a pretty good initial line up on handle, now to get it all down to dimensions. (Bottom pic the lower limb is closest on the left, wood marking the hand grip area and pencil marking position of knot prior to straightening, and lower limb is furthest on the right pic after straightening, I forgot to take the pic from the same end ::).)

Ok, I've got back on this one, I left it a while as it was giving me a headache... I'm wondering how the tiller looks from others eyes. I'm pulling the bow 28"ish. The top limb starts on the left in the video until I swap it round half way(right in the photo). I've had to work to a weak spot about 7" north of centre. (I filled the gap of the removed knot with a piece of ash dowel, I'll try and make that look like a knot later). I am hoping for 120-130lbs @31", but not to fussed if a little lighter.
I have left it flatter and a little wider where those dips are and the removed knot is, alsoat that weak spot.
Thanks for any input,
R.D.

Looks good to me. I like the looks of that plug too. It gives me some hope for mine I’m working on right now. I used a yew heartwood plug with ea40. What glue did you use?

That looks a good plug supadav95,
..after I removed the punky knot a piece of split half inch ash dowel looked a close fit, I shaped it a little to get a snug lay into the knot hole and clamped it down with a generous amount of superglue, when it was dry I filled any gaps with superglue and some fine oak sawdust followed by rasping and sanding flat. Seems to be holding up ok.
I'm going to paint in some stain growth rings to emulate a yew branch/knot, and leave some of the ash to look like sapwood. That's the plan anyway :D

...well, something similar, I copied a side knot from another bow, walnut husk stain and a little black acrylic, protecting with a coat of danish oil while I finish the bow.
