The devil always told me two is better than one!!! >:D >:D
-
I'd sure like to figure out a way to make this one.
-
Id sure like you to Eddie. Its a hum-dinger for sure. Very big shoot, but lots of ground to roam and camp on. Makes it feel smaller than it is. The Saturday night dinner line shows the amount of folks really there. They come out of the wood work with empty plates!
-
Ill give you a stick of osage if I see you in August Cody!
Ha!!! I'll up the ante and give ya something better ;)   lmao 8)
Oh, I hope its poplar, let it be poplar! ;D

10-4 good buddy!
-
You would love it Pat, Eddie just drive on up to my place and you can go with me. ;) :) :) See problem solved. ;) Rocky/Kevin/Steve and all the rest make me feel like I am home. Great bunch of folks and very different course to shoot,I call it stump shooting for McKenzie's. ;) ;D ;D ;D We plan on headed that way on Tuesday/either morning or early evening, who knows we may leave Monday night
depending on who all is going with us. ;) :) :)
Pappy
-
Pat & Eddie, it would be great to see you both at Elm Hall. The Classic and the Elm Hall shoot are the two that I wouldn't miss. The Elm Hall gang sure put on a good time. The Wirwicki's will be there just for fun, this year.
-
Eddie, I told you at Pappy's to fly to Indy and we'll go from here. It is a great time.
David
-
Thanks, guys, I have to see how surgery is going to play out. First appointment with the Neurosurgeon on Tues.
-
I may just have to go to this one. ;)
-
I guess I should start planning to work in Marshall during the last week of July so that I can run up to elm hall Thursday night and spend the weekend.
I love coming back to Michigan when ever i can and everyone seems pretty stoked about this event so it's now on the calendar!
It will be good to see you all again and I'll bring my own arrows for this one Cody.
-
I may just have to go to this one. ;)
I should hope so mister!

We'd be glad to have ya' at the club Ed. Like most folks, the Saturday night dinner will "sell" you on this event. Its an amazing plethora of food to pick over.
-
Chris, I'm always in when good food is involved!! At the classic I've brought things to cook and share for the Saturday pot luck, is this the same type of feast?
I do have a freezer full of Moose from last fall's trip to Newfoundland, and I the Forest Farmer does know how to cook up some game.
-
Nearly all the food is donated and prepared by club members and their spouses, but I can promise you a package or three of moose meat would be much appreciated.
-
Yep, I assure it will get ate. :)
Pappy
-
I'll have a another plate of that moose and I wouldn't turn down a glass of that home brew either Ed.
See ya there. :D
-
Mmmm...beeeeeeeerrr......
-
Thanks for reminding me Greg, I guess I forget to mention that I've been a brewer for far longer than I've been trying to build bows? I managed to put a batch together just for the classic this year and I guess it wouldn't be right not to do the same for the Elm Hall event.
I will definitely bring up a few choice cuts of moose and I will try to get a batch of beer together also.
-
Thats the spirit Ed ;D
-
Ed, we weren't introduced at Marshall but a good home brew would be the perfect way to fix that! ;)
-
Over the years always found that a well made home brew is a good way to meet people and make new friends. If I do have time to make up a batch it would be good to know what most people like to drink.
At this years classic I made a English style ale, which was not to strong or overly bitter, nice amber color and dry hopped. I could make that again, but I make a very nice IPA that I that is similar to a Bell's two hearted (the Michigan boys should know that one). I also do an American or German wheat beer that would be good in for the August heat.
Put your two cent in and If life doesn't get in the way I'll try to make up a batch.
-
Anything that taste like a Miller Lite. ;) ;D ;D ;D
Pappy
-
Pappy, you have such a refined taste in beer. ;D ;D
-
I do don't I. ;) :) :)
Pappy
-
I think your paycheck may have some influence pappy!
-
Ed. I vote for cold and wet. ;)
-
Pappy, Pappy, Pappy. You do a great thing by hosting the TN classic and you've been great with lots of advise and letting me stop by to twin oaks, but I don't think that I could look at myself in the mirror if I made a Miller lite clone. That would be kind of like me asking someone on this site to make me a bow with wheels on it,,,,,ouch. ;)
Now there is nothing wrong with commercial beers, they do a great job of making a very consistent high quality product, but as i'm learning to make and shoot REAL bows by the other good people in this forum, I think it's my duty as a craft brewer to give others the opportunity to try real live beer, just like our ancestors made. "plus making a good tasting "lite beer" is tough to do.
I'm on a mission now, maybe I should make a "transition" beer, like an American wheat.
-
;) ;D ;D ;D ,My problem is when I want to drink beer,I want to drink beer and
if you drink your beer like I drink Miller I wouldn't be much good and probably
spend most of my time sleeping. ;) :) :) either way,you do make some tasty beer
I just need to learn the word MODARATION. Really looking forward to this event
I get to see lots of folks at this gathering that I only see once a year plus the food and ranges are as good as it gets. :) MI. is a very special place, you go from woods almost like we have in TN. to cedar swamps to sand duns and small lakes everywhere they dig a hole, and weather that can change in a few minutes, they got it all. ;) :)
Pappy
-
If you can't Moderate you can BOUNCE Pappy! See you soon.
-
Can't wait Rocky. :)
Pappy
-
I'm with ya 100% Pappy! That's why you'll rarely see me with an adult beverage before sun down. See you soon in MI, and if I get some time, i'd like to stop by Twin Oaks to work on a couple of staves I have.
Ed
-
I have a friend in Delaware who is interested in coming to the Elm hall event but he really wants to see/ learn about making bows, knapping ect,
Does the Elm Hall have a similar set up as the TN classic where
people are working on and selling primitive archery stuff?
-
No Ed. there is no designated build area. But Im sure myself and maybe a few others will have portables set up to work wood on. The big factor is heat. As you know it can get damn hot in early August and drawing a knife can kick your hiney. If Im not building a bow, Id still be more than happy to run my mouth for hours about primitive archery gear. Probably will anyway!
-
Thx Chris, I'll pass this on and see if he's going to make it. I know he really wanted to check out the techniques of building the bows and knapping.
For me this type of event will be good so I can focus on my shooting skills. Plus it will give me a chance to talk to you seasoned bowers about designs, and possibly shoot some of the sweet bows that others have made.
I really enjoyed shoot with you, greg and blackhawk at marshall (thx). It's pretty cool to hold some of the bows that are featured in the bow of the month section of PA in person. Kind of like holding one of Jimmy Hendrix's guitars. ;D
Can't wait,
Ed
-
Not quite like the Classic Ed,more of a meeting/greeting/eating and lots of bull being thrown around, with some bow shooting going on. Really laid back and very relaxing for me. I watch some of the guys work on bow,but like Chris said, usually just to hot for that,so I set in the shade and relax. :) :) :) Get to shoot a lot of different bow and a ton of bow and hunting talk going on. :) Great week. :)
Pappy
-
Sounds like a perfect way to spend some of the dog days of August. Is it right on the pine river or close by? I use to canoe it when I was a kid and I could see sitting in a tube and float down the river if it's real hot.
-
The Pine is right on the grounds Ed. The course usually goes right by it, or you actually shoot unto a gravel bar and get wet retrieving your arrow, orrrrrr pay the kids sitting along the bank a buck to grab it for you! They swim it all weekend. Its clear and cool.
-
Yep,I pay the kids. ;) ;D ;D

Yup...here's pappy doing just what he said last year ::) ..just look at all those shavings at his feet...yup...looks relaxing to me too ;)

-
Yep,I pay the kids. ;) ;D ;D
Pappy
Not me....I ain't no yuppy...I was raised in a crick, and I jump right on in...I get my hillbilly bath in and cooled down the same time ;)
-
Ya but I ant wearing shorts and flip flops. Talking about yuppy. ;) :D :D :D Plus the kids have to make a living also. ;)
Pappy
-
Hey...My shorts "used" to be pants...and my flip flops "used" to be boots...lol  n I ain't got enough money to be handing it out to more kids...I'm too poor after handing it out to all of my own,n I got my own kids to retrieve my arras...;) plus I'm too cheap ;) n how else am I gonna get my "bath"?
-
;) :) :) :) Yep,I guess if I had a baseball team like you I would fetch them myself also. ;)
Pappy
-
That pic reminds me pappy, I need you to sign that bow this year. Your the last of four that needed to sign it. Ill seal it for good after your name is on it. That little jewel is my own private collectors item..:)
-
No problem,ha we may even get time to shoot the course together. ??? ;) :) We have a change of plans for the good. Leaving Monday evening. Should roll in really early morning Tuesday. Got 5 coming with me as of now. ;) :)
Pappy
-
Glad you're coming early Pappy We can use the extra help for sausage making on Wednesday night! Hmmm.... might be cheaper to hire help than to buy enough beer to keep up with you! Ha! :o :o
-
Good thought Brian!
-
Just kidd'n of course. I LOVE those guys. Can't wait to see them all in Elm Hall!!!!
-
Someone say Beer? :)
-
;) ;D ;D ;D ;D Back at you Rocky,see ya Friday at Cloverdale. :)
Pappy
-
Good news all!
We've decided to add a self bow "shop" to the event this year. We will put up a 12 x 16 (or so) tent with four picnic tables and a tiller tree. So Ed, yes we will be working bows in some capacity this year my friend! Ive been hoping this would happen. I know plenty of people want to see the work and learn the work involved in self bow building.
YIPPY!
-
Very cool,nice touch. :)
Pappy
-
Cool pearly...hope to see you demonstrating to the good folks up there on how to build a selfbow 8) ..n maybe teach me a thing or two too ::)
-
Very cool,nice touch. :)
Pappy
I hope so pappy. Im sure there will plenty of activity around the area.
-
Where is is going to be at,hopefully in the shade somewhere. ;) ;D ;D Ya Chris[Blackhawk] you need some help for sure. ;) :) :) :)

Awesome!
-
Pappy its looking like we are going to set it up by the kids sandbox and fish cooking area. North side of the club house. But, under the trees by the dumpster wouldn't be bad either. Ill check it over next time Im out.
-
Well maybe you n pearly can team up and help me out then pappy!! ;) lord knows I need it...might need a whip tho and not a drawknife
-
I can show ya how to work a hinge into a bow Hawkster, it's my specialty and I'd be happy to share my methods. ;D
-
That's great news Chris, I'll let my buddy know and tell him that you are adding the building area just for him. This way I can gilt him into driving from Delaware .
I'm pretty stoked as well, I really wanted to work on a bow for this fall. I'll bring a stave I started at the classic plus a couple of raw ones.
I don't have a tun of tools but I'll bring what I have and I guess I'm pretty much obliged now to get cracken and brew up a keg. ;D ;D
Thx
Ed
-
Ha Greg I can help Blackhawk with that also, with both of us how can he miss. ;)
Maybe the weather will be cool, sounds like a good spot to me Chris,it will be easy to find there. ;) :)
Pappy
-
Yup, I think that spot will be perfect. Its open and breezy, plus shaded nicely. Ill have a tiller tree and my Cody vice with me. Plus another small 4" jaw vice clamped down to a table. Hopefully the Missle Master makes his way up as well. I know Drew, RyanR and Dan-O will be there as well. Should have plenty of tools and experienced eyes around Ed.
-
Dang! If a body went to all the GREAT EVENTS available for this stuff, he'd run all the rubber off his tires getting from one to the next!
OneBow
-
Sounds great, I let my buddy in Delaware know what's being set up and told him that he started it, so he's fired up to drive over
! If I get time I may build a portable stave horse, sounds like it may come in handy.
Can't wait!
-
That is correct OneBow,lots of great events to go to and spend time with like minded folks, hard to beat that. I am very fortunate to have several that hang out
with me all the time, but lots do this stuff on their own most of the time,so to go to some place where you have lots doing the same thing is really cool. Really looking forward to this one. :) See you guys in 6 weeks or so. :) Close to the cooking also Pearl, that is always a plus. ;) :) :)
Pappy
-
Ed you could just mount a vice on a chunk of 2 x 10, then clamp it to a table w c-clamps. That works pretty good to, and it saves building a horse for now.
-
Good call pearl, I can put that together in minutes.
Thx for the idea!
-
Little over a month and I am getting revved up,got to check out my Motel this passed weekend at Cloverdale, very nice/comfortable and pretty swanky place. :) :) :) :) Rocky you are the man. :) He really talked highly of Pearl also, kind of surprised me. ;) ;D ;D ;D Just kiding Chris,I know how sensitive you are. ;) :) :)
Pappy
-
Better watch it ol' fart!
I ordered up the shelter for the bow building area yesterday. Should be here in a day or two. We are going to start working on the grounds soon. I enjoy it though, its awesome seeing the swarms of people show up and enjoy it all.
-
Just over a month and I will be headed North, time really does fly. ;) :) It flyes even faster after I get there. :( Pearl did the tent come in yet ?
Pappy
-
I have it pappy. 2000 sq feet of shade my friend! It'll be set up right near the Money Bear line up, under the trees. We already talked about prepping the trails on the courses better this year to. Clean them up a bit more and mark them a bit better. Its the 25th year for this shoot and we need to make it grand!
-
It's always grand to me,but I know what you are saying. I will hate not getting to break the trail,we are usually about the first to go through and by the end it is wide open, not so when we start. ;) ;D ;D See ya in a month. :)
Pappy
-
We're not changing the format Pappy. Still a hunt'in hike in the woods and we want you and Yankee Bob to be the first through 1) because you always are and 2) because we value your feedback. And besides that it gives everyone else some lost arrows to look for!! Things are coming into place nicely and we'll be ready for you on Tuesday. Can't wait!
-
Yep me and Poppa Bob usually only get to shoot together once and it is usually the maiden Vogue for the range,he always thinks he wins, ??? he tends to forget all the bad shots he makes and remembers the good ones. ;) :) I always just let him go on about the absolutely prefect bow he is shooting at the time and how well he shot it. ;) :)
Pappy
-
You guys need me to send some Flamingos?
-
The flamingos score double ;D
-
2000 square ft!!!! That's a fricken circus tent! Very nice.
We'll I did manage to brew on June 22 and kegged it tonight. So by August it will be perfectly aged. I ended up making a summer wheat beer as planned. It seems to have turned out good but I'll let you all be the judge of that.
Looking forward to it!
-
Just noticed that 2,000 wow , that's a 40x50 tent. Should be enough room for sure. :) 27 days from today I will be headed North. :)
Pappy
-
Sorry guys, major typo there. Its 10 x 20 for the main tent then each of the 20' foot sides have 10' wide wings coming off. More like 500 sq ft.
-
I understood your Michiganeese just fine Pearly !
-
A 10 x 20 is still a good sized area. It will be nice.
I've attached a couple of pics of the stave that I'm going to be working on. It's pretty straight the growth rings are kind of tight. I'm thinking about taking it to the second ring from the back. The Summered is only about a 16th of an inch thick, but the stave is too thin to take it down any further, I think.
Any suggestions?
-
Nice piece of osage Ed, 1st ring you can cleanly chase should be fine.
-
Yep that's a real nice piece of yeller wood you got there ...Ed
DBar
-
Thx Greg and dbar, I'll start working on the first ring this weekend.
-
Good looking piece of wood, you should be fine with that. ;) :)
Pappy
-
Thx Pappy, this will be my 1st bow made from a tree I cut and split here in TN. I started it at this years classic and hope to have it flinging arrows at Elm Hall.
-
Id have to agree Ed, looks like a nice piece of wood to me. Shouldn't be a problem flinging wood at Elm Hall!
-
Woods not the ONLY thing that's going to be FLUNG    ! Bob
-
You know Bob I was thinking the same thing when I read Pearl's post yesterday,
You just beat me to it, great minds think a like. ;) :) :) :)
Pappy
-
I should be coming up Thursday afternoon, Rocky how many is in the bus, I'll probably be by myself. I think David is coming too. I can bring the popup if the bus is full. Brother Dan
-
I think the bus is full Dan :-\ ,Me/Beau/Dan/Jon//Chuck/Mike and Dave is he is going ?? I may bring my tent also just in case. :) Rocky sent me a picture Sat. of the work going on,looks like they have our spot all cleaned up and ready for the southern invasion. ;):) Little over 3 weeks for us. :)
Pappy
-
Hey Brother Dan,
The bus is full, sorry. Let me know what you plan to stay in and we'll see to it that you have a great spot!
Rocky
-
I'll be there Thursday evening. :) BroDan if you bring you popup I'll bunk with you if that's okay. I'll be leaving when I get off work Thursday. Really looking forward to it. Rocky and
Dan, I'm hoping to have a total for the targets tomorrow. So, I should be calling you two tomorrow evening. Can't wait to see everyone. Pappy, tell Beau to bring his guitar if he wants peppers. ;)
David
-
I think I'll come along to make sure you guys don't have all the fun. Share and share alike I say. ;D
-
Getting closer fella's! Rocky Ill see you next Saturday morning with a sack of donuts and some leather gloves. Cant wait to see you guys again Dan, Dave, Jon and pappy.
-
Looking forward to it Pearl, :)Dave I have already passed that along to him. ;)
I have been getting a lot of pm's from other sites so it should be a bumper crop of folks for sure. ;) :) :)
Pappy
-
Sounds like the chow line will be long on Saturday!
-
OK then Rocky,I'll bring the pop-up. Sure Dave that's OK with me. Pappy, is Grant coming, wanted to know if we were going to have the shower. BDan
-
As of a few weeks ago he said he was coming Brother Dan.
-
What Jon said, ;) you never know about him but I suspect he will. :) ;)
Pappy
-
Stand next to fire Brother Dan and we'll all smell the same, like smoke and beer ..........................and the Doctor is sure to be in camp! >:D
-
I figured the Doctor would be there, I guess I won't need a shower if everybody takes a shot from the Doctor. BDan
-
The Doctor sent me to the ER last year. I'm not gonna visit his office this year. :D
-
Is that why you slept all day Jon. ??? ;) :) Dan you could always wash in the Pine river if you get to smelling to bad. ;) :) Little over 2 weeks for us,we like to come early so we don't miss anything,ya know. ;) Got a good crew coming this year for a change,6 in my ride + Grant, I plan on confirming them this weekend so me can make some planes. Beau called this morning and he is excited,I am also to have him back with us again. ;) :) Plans now are to leave Monday evening the 28th and be there early morning Tuesday about 3or 4 am, if all goes good. Then Build a fire, drink a cold beverage and take a nap to get ready for the day. ;) :) :) :)
Pappy
-
I have a shower in my camper. $5 the first minute of actual run time, and $3 per additional minute not to exceed 3 minutes total. The water, battery power and propane are on me... :)
-

So, ...that's an $11 shower? Does it come with a massage? ...towel service? ...a selection of scented soaps and scrubs? ::) :o ::) :P ;D
OneBow
-
I'll be there Thursday afternoon. I like to leave about 4 or 5 in the morning, takes about 8 hours. I'll be going to Cloverdale next Thursday for the IBO, so I guess I won't have to unload the truck after the IBO. BDan
-
It only $11 bucks if you use up the allotted time slot OBW. Just have to be judicious with your water usage.
BD Ill be arriving, for good, shortly after you.
-
I won't go into explanations or reasons here, but as of right now I'm pretty sure we won't be making it this year :-\ :'(
-
I won't go into explanations or reasons here, but as of right now I'm pretty sure we won't be making it this year :-\ :'(
must be the 11 dollar shower
-
I hear tell it rained the other day in Pennsylvania, so I doubt its the shower
have fun wish I could be there!
-
Greasy ol' mountain hippys don't shower you silly guy Pauly!
-
Hope that changes Blackhawk :( As for the shower, that sounds like a deal to me,the way some of the guys smell ,I'll pay. ;) ;D ;D
Pappy
-
Ha, after a few days of beer and camp food, a shower would do some good.
-
We got the courses laid out yesterday, we did two 22+ target courses that can be merged to create one long one. The grounds are all mowed and cleaned up. The novelty area is taped off and the self bow tent area is taped off. Gonne be a real hum dinger boys!
-
****** Id suggest hiking boots or two pairs of shoes. We've had a crazy wet summer, like no other, up here and the low land is holding unto some muck. You wont lose a boot or anything, but a spare pair of shoe's would be good. Bugs are very tolerable so far, ironically. **************************************************************************************************************************
-
Sounds good. I am looking forward to it. Building some arrows today in preparation.
-
I always bring boots up there. :)
Pappy
-
Im going to be hauling a good number of osage staves with me to unload. Look me up if you need any. The "price" will be very right. Im not promising anything from them except they are yellow inside and caramel on the outside. All will have bark still. Im hoping to have at least 12-15 of them with me. Most will be 3-4 years old as well. I could use some dry, peeled HHB, elm or hackberry.
-
I will se what I have Pearl, think I have some Hackberry and maybe some Winged Elm. :-\ if I haven't given it all away. :)
Pappy
-
Sounds good pappy. Being the early bird you are, your probably going to get dibs on the pile! I pulled 15 staves aside last night. I may grab a few more if I there is enough interest. Don't really want to haul anything back home with me.
-
Be sure to bring some broadheads for the silhouette course! 8)
-
And the bread stealing coons in camp. ;) ;D ;D ;D ;D
Pappy
-
Ive been busting my tail all week on an auction bow to donate to the club. Its looking good so far. Got the tip overlays added last night and hope to tiller it out this weekend and get her shooting. Im making it a 50-53# @ 28" flat bow. That way whoever, for the most part, wins it can shoot it and take deer with it.
-
Sounds great,I will get in on that one. :) another week and short Monday of work for me and then it's time.
Can't wait.
Pappy
-
I'm looking forward to it, just got to get my stuff together and pack the truck. I'll make sure I bring enough money for the raffle Chris. I wouldn't mind having one of your bows.
By the way the beer is ready in the keg and I might even sampled a bit, just make sure it's good enough for you guys.
You soon, ed
-
See you guys in little over a week now. :)
Pappy
-
Got the bow all tillered out, just heavy yet. So what weight you want Ed? :)
-
Ed nothing, ??? I plan on winning that one,48@26 ;) :) :) :) We may be headed out a little earlier than planed,Beau is off Monday so as soon as I can get to the cabin and get everyone rounded up we will head out Monday early evening we hope. ;) :) :)
Pappy
-
Hope 49 @ 26 is ok pappy! I stopped right at 55 @ 28 and started sealing her up last night. I have a feeling this bow is going to get some attention on the raffle table. I pulled off (got lucky) a really cool dye job.
-
Moving the bus in tonight for y'all. What a great camp sight! I'm jealous!! Can't wait guys. Sounds like we'll get to meet a lot of new folks this year. :D
-
Tried to wrangle kitchen pass from The Wife. But, for some reason, she was a bit "reluctant" to write me one. Sumpin about I just got back from MOJam and now want to take off for another half week??!!
Would love to have handled that bow, Pearlie.
Next year . . . . . . Hope ya'll have great time!!!
-
We would love to see you next year Mr. Knoll! Im sure (God willing) Ill make a bow every year to raffle off. The Pine River Club is one of a kind and raising money for them is well deserved!
-
Now he's sucking up, kidding very nice of you to do that for them, you are right, very special bunch. Rocky we will let you come by and hang out if you like. ;) ;D ;D ;D ;D Sorry you can't make it this year Knoll, hope to meet you next year. :)
Pappy
-
Pappy, we tried to pick up the campsite a little bit as well so as a guy wouldnt stub his heel and fall over backwards like Cloverdale. K. Hills
-
55 @ 28 is perfect Chris, it's an Oman that I may just win it. But even if pappy stuffs the ballet box I only live an hour from twin oaks so I may persuade him to let me borrow it. Lol
If I don't win I have made progress on the stave that I posted a while back. I should have it ready for some straightening. It's going to be about 66". And I wanted to reflex it and put a flip on the tips. So if anyone has a jig and room. I would love to bend something.
-
Thanks Kevin ;) :) :) No worries Ed,I never win anything. :)
Pappy
-
That makes two of us Pappy. Even if we don't win a bow just being able to spend some time with good people, in the outdoors, doing things we enjoy is winning enough!
It sounds like everyone's been working hard to get the place ready so giving some money to help the club is a good thing and the chance to win one of Chris's works of art is a bonus!
I'll be rolling in on Friday afternoon. See you then!
-
I believe it going to be raffled off. So buy more tickets if you want to win that stick of wood!!
-
I guess I'll have to buy a few tickets since it's for a good cause but I don't like it, I already have a Pearly bow hanging on the bow rack making the bows that I made look like the work of an amateur. ;D
-
Hogwash Greg! I have a badly bent bow on my rack that makes mine look like a kindergartner finished them.
Here is a crappy pic of the bow.
-
Looks mighty fine to me,by the way Chris more tickets don't help me win, I could have all but one in the can and loose. ;) :) :) 4 more days for me. Man I can't wait. :) :)
Pappy
-
Havent decided if Jake and I are coming in Wednesday night or Thursday morning? Im sure excitement will get the best of us and we will be there Wednesday. For those of you who remember my boy Jake, he is about 6' 3" and 175# now!!!!
-
My son is also coming, he use to come all the time but hasn't been in several years,he is really looking forward to seeing the old bunch again and doing some picking around the fire again. We Might even do some bow shooting. ;) ;D ;D
Pappy

Ive never officially met Beau pappy, its time. I love live music around a fire!
-
Matt and Pappy...bring those green bows! We'll see how many others there are for the "green bow shoot".
Rocky

Hopefully early afternoon 3 or4 ish I am hoping ,that will put us there around Mid night. Hope we have a little fire wood to get us going. Hint Hint. ;) :) :) :)

:-*
Thanks. ;D
-
Glad to hear that you're coming also Greg, and I think I saw the bow you made for Chris and that was truly a work of art. When I come to these events and see what everyone is making its both inspirational and humbling.
It will be good to see you and make sure you bring a pint glass!
Ed
Ps
I just got the new issue of PA and saw that you (Greg), Peril and Blackhawk all won now of the month! Congratulation , way to go! I'll be hitting you all up for guidance and suggestions on the bow I'm working on next week. I generally pay for advice with beer :o
-
When I got off work today I went to the store to pick up food and some other stuff for the trip north. I'm heading up Thursday when I get off work. Really looking forward to seeing everyone and just relaxing at a shoot. Everyone have a safe trip and we'll see ya in less than a week.
David
-
Ed, I generally don't like giving someone direction on their bow building for fear of giving out the wrong advice. I screw up as many bows as I succeed on, maybe more. :o But..... get a few beers in me and I'm likely to loosen up and start giving out a bunch of bad advice, use at your own risk. >:D
See ya next week. :)
-
No worries Greg any advise can be given and I'm sure it will give me better insight than I have now (which is very little).
I forgot to say congrats to Pappy also for the bow of the month. That's a nice piece of yew Mark, I'd love to fling a arrow with it to see how if feels, Matt W seemed to really like it so it must be a smooth shooter!
See ya next Friday.
Ed
-
Well boys, its almost here. Just a few more days. Put the finishing touches on my arrows and build a bench to bring for some bow building. We could do an all night buildathon. >:D >:D Should roll in thursday evening if things go as planned. See you all then.
-
Yep,here for us Now, ;) :) :) we are headed that way early afternoon, hope to roll in Mid night tonight, see yall soon. :) :)
Pappy
-
Everyone have a safe trip and a great shoot. Wish I was coming with you guys. Don't forget your cameras and don't forget to take pics with them. ;D
-
Pat I promise you Ill take and post no less than 30 pics!
-
We could do an all night buildathon.
Ryan, many all nighters have been pulled at Elm hall, but none building bows! >:D
-
Headed to Twin Oaks for the load up and drive north. See ya'll soon.
-
Here waiting on the guys I'm passed ready to leave, trailer almost loaded.Pappy
-
Bring your rain coats and knee boots fella's!
-
Beautiful up here, weather couldn't . Rolled in about 11pm got a few hours sleep and one seating by the fire , life is really good, now need some daylight so we can get out and shoot. See y'all in a few days, Pappy
-
Are you on your phone mister! Shut that thing off and drink your coffee!
-
What is the weather forecast for the weekend, I should be up Thursday afternoon. BDan
-
Its looking decent Dan. Bring plenty of bug dope and Id suggest long pants on the courses, lots of poison ivy this year, everywhere up here.
-
Hey Chris, how many targets on the practice range? I'm done fighting the bugs and poison ivy this year! Will the long shot bear target be there again? I'm bringing a couple of selfbows this year so I don't get the stinkeye for shooting a glass bow! ::) ;)
-
The only other range to shoot is the stuffed bag range. I think there are 6-8 bags lined up on the rifle range. Don't let a few bugs and poison ivy slow ya' down you ol' sissy teach! The way it has been up here this year you'd have to stay indoors all summer! Bugs and ivy are EVERYWHERE in this state. I was hiking the Manistee last weekend and seen it everywhere there to, plus skeeters.
Actually, the money bear and a few other novelty shoots will be available. One brand new I guess. Plenty of chances to lose arrows!
-
I don't think I'll be doing much shooting but maybe I'll come by and occupy the bow making tent for a while. ;D
-
Hope to see you Ryan! I didn't get to visit much over a minute with you in Marshall.
-
Looking forward to seeing everyone! Its sounding like there will be a good PA turnout! Good on ya, Drums for taking on the selfbow tent.
-
Wow you guys are killing me................Maybe next year I'll have to get a convoy of KY and IN guys on the way there. I can think of at least about seven or eight of us that would enjoy some Michigander hospitality. Maybe well have to have a state shoot off sort of thing. you know for brag'n rights. ??? ::) I'll work on that one for next year. :)
DBar
-
I'll be there late Friday afternoon :)
-
Landon and I'll be there Friday around noon. Hopefully by then you guys will have soaked up all the rain!
-
Good to hear that the Wright brothers are coming. My work is done for this week, I'm leaving in the morning to get up there early afternoon. See you early birds tomorrow and the rest of ya later in the week. :)
-
I still have a date and half of work left, then a concert Thursday night in Louisville and heading to Michigan Friday morning. Should roll in late afternoon.
-
Having fun, headed to the range right now,see y'all soon. Pappy

I suppose my jury duty isn't as bad as not going at all, but damn close.
-
OK where is everybody at????? Pappy
-
Jake and I will be there by 8 this morning pap.
-
OK where is everybody at????? Pappy
At work wishing I was at Elm Hall! :o
-
I'm going to be driving down from Traverse City on Saturday (or possibly Friday night). Can't find anyone to come with me so I'm definitely going to feel like a fish out of water dropping myself in the middle of a bunch of people I've never met before. So if you see a long-haired bearded guy wandering around looking out of place, don't hesitate to say Hi.
-
I've been that guy before and all I can say is if you like archery you'll fit right in
-
ezc- I sent ya pm. Just show up, don't think you'll have any problem finding some people to hang out with or shoot with at Elm Hall.
-Drew
-
I just might have to come fling some arrows with you fellas on Sunday. If I can sneak away for a few hours. I've got a few staves to bring with me, I'd like to maybe work out some trades. Maybe I'll bring one to work on in the selfbow tent too. Hopefully I can swing up there.

Had fun shooting and visiting on Saturday The course was set-up great and has the best selection and quality of targets of any shoot I've shot. Shot with KHalverson and we didn't lose any arrows and tree'd only a few. The bugs were not as bad as they could've been and the long course was not muddy enough to really be a problem. Your home club did a great job Pearly!
-
This was my first time at Elm Hall and all I can say is great job!!!
The site, people, raffles, bow tent and FOOD!! Dinner Saturday night was worth the price of admission alone.
I need to say a special thanks to Chris "Pearl drums" for organizing the bow tent and helping me out with making a aw some bow! We got her shooting Sunday afternoon and I'll post some pics once I get her dressed up.
Thx to Badly bend, DQ, and a hand full of others on Saturday for helping me out as well. A great bunch of people and very knowledgable. Hope to see you all next spring at the TN Classic. I will make sure I have extra beer brewed for the Michigan/ Illinois crew who come down!
Cheers to all!!
-
Yep it was a good time for sure, thanks to all you guys for putting this on,lots of work I know but yall done a fine job. ;) :) :)
Pappy
-
Ill be posting a bunch of pics tonite once I size and crop them after work. It was a good shoot and I was more than happy talking bow building under that tent! The turn out was great and as usual hanging out with all my old and new buddies was great. It was good to meet you long-haired, bare footed Tony!
-
Sounds like ya'll had a good time. Looking forward to the pictorial evidence of same.
-
I had a great time, really glad I drove down. The $24 I made in the night shoot covered some of my gas too!
It was great to meet everyone I did, and for everyone that was there that I didn't run into, maybe next time!
Thanks Chris, Paul, and Ed for the staves. I'll post whatever I make out of them and with a little luck do you all proud.
-
It was nice to meet you Tony. Fun shooting to! Im pretty sure you'll make a few winners from those staves you brought home. Our "crew" is always good for a few staves to those without.
-
Great time, as always in Elm Hall, MI. The club members out did themselves. Finally got an opportunity to shoot the course with Drums & Jake. Miss Heather shot the course three times. Enjoyed her girls outings with Miss Debbie, the granddaughters and Miss Meagan. Wee-Wicki also shot the course. Both were exhausted by the time we got home.
-
Had a great time, will definitely be back next year! A big thank you to everyone who put on this event!
-
A big thanks to Rocky, Kevin, Eric and all the other Elm Hall members for a great shoot. The course was excellent, except for the skeeters, the meal Saturday was outstanding as usual. Good Lord willing will be back next year too.
David
-
I let my son Jake take pics. If you know him at all, you'll get a chuckle out of some of them. I posting them all! Some of you guys are lucky I don't know how to add text above each pic. >:D

This young man won the bow I donated. The club raffled it off. He had a smile from ear to ear, I loved seeing it.
-
Hey Ryguy....whats in the cup?
-
Thanks to ALL who made their way up, down or over to come see us. It was a smashing time, as Elm Hall always is! Im pretty sure Ill see most of you again next summer. And I hear there is a Kentucky/Indiana posse heading this way 2015.

Yep, not a doubt, that's one thrilled young fella!
-
Great event once again, a big thanks to all the hard working members who make it so nice for the rest of us to enjoy.
I left a lot of blood out there on the course but had more fun in the four days I was there than I'll likely have in the next month of days. Was good to see all my friends again and to make new ones as always happens at these kind of gatherings. I took pictures but broke my camera saturday when I sat on it and I can't retrieve them.
A big thanks to Chris and Bob for the staves, and another big thanks to my friend Paul for the bad@$$ osage bow he crafted and gave to me, I love it brother. Can't wait till next year. :)
-
What a great time. Good to see all of you again. It was a really relaxing time. The courses were the best. I think the mosquitos are probably satisfied for awhile. I can't wait until the next gathering.
-
I had a great time on Friday, wish I could have stayed for the weekend. Spent the day with some great people, who also helped me with my bow. Thanks to all. I'm already looking forward to next year's gathering at Marshall and again
at Elm Hall.
-
Thanks for the pics guys. I recognize a few folks there. I really like Ryan's sword. Is that part of his medical training? ;D
-
Good meeting you tony "EZC" hope you have fun carving on the yellow wood, you will see why people go a little nuts over it. Hope to see you up North in the fall.
Nice pics Chris, and yes, using the heat gun with your tongue sticking out helps. Lol
-
Thanks for posting pics Chris. I was there in "Spirit" - sure missed being there with a lot of great Friends. Should be able to make next Year, Good Lord willing. Bob
-
Yep great time for sure, thanks Chris for the pictures,I will post a few more when I get time to size them.It was great seeing all my friends, hard to beat that. Wished I had more time to shoot but seems their is never enough time. :) :) Lots of pictures posted on Life is good. ;) :)
Pappy
-
Ed I thought you were sticking your tongue out at Darryl because he was showing you how far off your tiller was...:)
-
Huge thanks to the Pine River club for putting this event on...they make it top notch, along with all the people who attend! Courses rocked, food was amazing as usual, and the new bow making area was great!
'skeeters were fed well, and so was I - diet time!
-
'skeeters were fed well, and so was I - diet time!
Just a second, ...y'all were chumming the mosquitoes? Did anyone bag their limit? I heard the leg sinew on those birds up in MI are good backing material. Anybody wanna do some tradin? ::) :o ;D

Chris,
Funny thing about talking with Darryl is that it took me a while to figure out who he was. Then I explained to him that I first got interested in self bows after reading a series of articles that he wrote several years ago for Michigan based "Woods and Water" Magazine. He did a build with Gary Davis and I though it was so cool that I would have to try it some day.
Fast forward to 2013 and after reading a article in Primitive Archer that Matt W wrote about the TN classic, I made it to Pappy's for the classic that year and built a bow with Matt. Again, I didn't know that Matt wrote the article in PA until we got talking.
While at the classic in 2013 I spent time talking with Gary Davis, bought some skins from him and didn't realize that he was the guy that was teaching Darryl in those articles several years ago.
How cool and Ironic is that,,,,,almost spooky,,lol
-
Its the coolest community in the world Ed! Everybody is just like the next, we all love primitive archery in some form or another. Pass it on!
-
I'm finding that to be true as well Chris. In the 2 events I have attended this year, the welcome and friendliness has been outstanding. Can't wait to meet up with everyone again.
-
Yeah, I have found the people at every event I've attended to be very friendly and genuine . I've only been into primitive archery for a short time and I already feel at home at events and on the forum.
Love it!
-
MANY thanks to everyone that attended this year. You are truly a wide and varied and GREAT group of people! For those of you who don't know, Brent Singer has been the event manager for two years now and has a great committee in Pearlie and K Hills and great support from the PRRC club members and families. AGAIN....thank you for your support. The next shoot is only 51 weeks from now!!! See you then. :) :) :)
-
Anyone know how much KHALVERSON'S knife went for in the silent auction. The knife and sheath were some of his normal awesome work! I donated some "Vintage" gear for a door prize. Any of our PA clan grab it?
-
Drew won that teach, $55 was his bid I believe.
-
Thanks Chris. He sure got a nice knife and sheath!
-
Oh he knows that well! The more folks get to see and touch Kevin's work, the higher the bids will go. Its amazing stuff, Im proud to carry 2 of his knives on every hunt I take.
-
It was a great shoot as always. Always a good group of folks to BS and shoot with and although I didn't get under the bow making tent but to stuff my face it looked to be busy. Can't wait till next year.
And yeah, Drew stole that knife at $55... sneaky little bastard. >:D
-Dan
-
And yeah, Drew stole that knife at $55... sneaky little bastard. >:D
-Dan
Oh danny boy, if you WANT something on a silent auction ya have to really bid not play with piddly little $2 increases - so next time go big or go home.
That knife and sheath was worth way more - but this boy only had $60 of play money in his wallet. >:D
