Last year a few folks from "near" the Central Kentucky area wanted to get together for a weekend of bow building, shooting and
BS-ings. We had such a fun time, that it became obvious that this needed to me an annual event.
March 28, 29 and 30.
Moon Tree Farm
565 Stoney Run Rd
Richmond, KY 40475
cell 859-582-2306
My place has no where near the facilities of Twin Oaks. But, we do what we can. There will be a 12 station 3-D range. A not so large workshop for bow building, a knapping pit and primitive camping. We can run electricity from the house for those with small campers.
I will provide a main course for supper on Friday and Saturday pot luck for side items are welcome.
Dave

Dave,
I'll be there Friday morning, cant wait. I'll have something to work on this year. I'm just not sure what :-\
DBar
-
I'll be there again for sure.
WARNING!!! To any new people coming to this event, do not get the chicken tenders at the Frisch's in the town near Dave's place.
-
I'm really looking forward to seeing you all, again. I'll be thinking up some new stories. But, they'll all be new to Clint, since he was in the bathroom or in bed most of the weekend. >:D
-
Dave, I remember a few stories from the last evening we were there. I'll have to get caught up on the rest.
-
I'll be there again for sure.
WARNING!!! To any new people coming to this event, do not get the chicken tenders at the Frisch's in the town near Dave's place.
...and beware of chickens crossing the road >:D
Great hospitality and facilities Dave!
Ill be there Friday am too.
Tracy
-
Great Tracy. Brian and I are looking forward to some knapping lessons ;D
I have made some moving firearm targets that I can fit with some foam for archery targets. But if I remember correctly some of you wanted to pop a few pistol rounds, also. We'll make it all happen :)
-
Sounds great Dave ! Do I need to bring a chainsaw this time? Can't wait to sit down and break some rock with you and Brian :)
Tracy
-
I just got 2 chainsaws out of the shop and we be taking a 3rd one in soon. So, I think we are covered if we decided we need to whack down a tree.
-
I'll be there in the am on Friday also Dave. It a great time all should try to be there thanks Dave
-
Great Ozzy. I'm looking forward to the gathering of friends.
-
I can't wait Dave :D
-
So far, looks like Ill be there Friday AM as well. Looking forward to it.
-
Good deal Greg and Ozzy. Brian will be here, not sure the time. I would expect before noon Friday. A couple more of my friends are talking about coming up, since they keep hearing from Brian and I what a good bunch primitive archers are to hang with. I made a bow for one of the guys last Aug. He's been shooting, probably more than I have.
-
How many days now?? :'(
-
How many days now?? :'(
Not sure but I know to many
-
60 days and counting.
-
Anyone coming to Moontree that would be interested in swapping some staves? I am looking for Hackberry in particular and have an assortment of Osage, but none is seasoned yet. Also looking for leatherworking tools.
-
I don't have any hackberry Greg. All I have right now is yellow colored wood 8). Can't wait and can now say it's next month officially ;D
Tracy
-
Greg, I have some hackberry that I cut last year. It's been standing in the shed next to the tractor. It has some prop twist.
50 days till Moon Tree Gathering. Come on spring. I like winter probably more than most people, but I'm done with this ice and snow. There's been ice hanging on trees for over a week here.
-
Hey Greg, I can cut a hackberry tree down the day before I head down to Dave's. We can split it up down there and share it around. I hope the sap is flowing by then.

I could bring more than one ;)
-
Boy you guys have got me all fired up....Dave I'm with ya on this damn snow and ice, >:( it would be different if I was use't to it. ;) I'll be glad to see it go.... ;D ;D
It will be good to see everyone again. I've missed the last few Scottsburg shoots. And might miss the 15th it's the NTF event in Nashville that weekend.
Dave, I don't want to speak out of place, and this is the only second Moon Tree gathering.... but me and others had such a good time...I'm sure you have opened this gathering to any and all PA's and friends to attend. I know there are a few other KY, IN, OH & TN PA guys on here close enough that would enjoy this group of guys, activities and the great host. Three days of some good clean fun. I hope to see some new blood there this year.
DBar
-
I'm with you Bill. Its been a long time since I hung out with you guys and made some shavings. And I'm sick of the snow and ice to. We have several inches of snow covered with a layer of ice. I can walk on it and not break through. When I go down the hill in the back yard to feed and water the rabbits I sit on my butt and slide all the way down. Its safer than trying to walk down.
-
I can relate Clint! It would be great to see a little sun around here. Come on Moon Tree and Spring!! :)
-
Bill, this is only my 2nd Moon Tree Gathering :) You're a founder father of this event  I wouldn't mind see a few new either. Actually, I believe Hickoryswitch is coming up Saturday. I'm hoping some of more of the "locals" see this post.
-
T minus 48 till launch of 2nd Annual Moontree!!
-
:D
-
i can't wait.i should be there Friday.
-
Plan on being there Friday morning as well, as long as I don't have to make up school on Saturday. That's spring break week for our corporation and hopefully they spare it.
Dave, are you going to need anything that we can bring?
Tracy
-
Ditto what Tracy said about bringing something.
Dave, I'm bringing some fish and turtle to fry, I'll bring my fryer. If the weather doesn't get any better I've got some fish in the freezer from fall. Hope I can get out and catch some crappie before then! And I'll bring some cobbler.
Please just let me know if I can bring anything................
Bill
-
Same here. Let me know what I can bring.
-
I will also bring something.
-
How about 3d targets?
-
All I have is a block target but I can bring it
-
Bill, a fish fry sounds AWESOME! I doubt that I'll get any fishing done between now the gathering though to help out. I'm pretty much a warm weather fisherman. haha I have a fryer, but the large turkey pot has developed a pin hole. grr. But, I do still have about a 2 gallon pan with a strainer basket. Will fire up both of them. I'll make hushpuppies and big pot of soup beans.
Tracy, more 3D targets wouldn't hurt. Just let me know how many extra are coming so I can have a place bush hogged for them to set.
Clint, I don't know that we "need" a block target. I have one of sorts, but if you have room I won't be offended if you bring it.
Chris brought the StavePress that got plenty of use last year, if anyone has one, that would be welcome. Scales would be nice.
I had another tiller tree set up in the shed where the tractor was, but I forgot about it. This year, I'll move the tractor and the boat out of the shed so we can use that area.
If you guys think of anything else that might be fun let me know.
-
I can bring a shaving horse/tillering stick combo. Also have a receiver mounted vice assembly that goes on the back of my truck. The wife is going to make either blueberry or strawberry cheesecake and a Butterfinger cake ::) Let me know what else to bring. I can't wait!!
-
Greg, that sound great. Cheesecake, YUMMY :D
-
i'll bring some beer this time.lol
-
i'll bring some beer this time.lol

I was at the local farm store yesterday and saw some horns for sale as dog chews. If anybody going to moontree needs some overlay material I can stop and pick one up for you. The big horn in front is nearly solid. It just had a small cavity at the base.

I have this old post vice I traded for. If anyone needs it, I will bring it to Moontree. Its listed in the trading post.
-
Post vise is gone. Pappy wanted it.
-
OK, hedgeapple, how many more days now???
-
haha I was just thinking as I logged on that I need to post a countdown. It's 39 days till the Moon Tree Gathering.
-
I'm as excited as a archer on opening morning of deer season :D
-
Calm down Ozzy. It's just a bunch of friends getting together, telling stories, shooting bows, sharing the triumphs and failures of their passion that is primitive archery. Sure there will be a couple great meals, some beer drinking and a bow or 12 will be in some process of completion. Of course we'll learn some things from one another that will help us on our journey to become better bowyers. And, there will probably be some fun trading going on. And a handgun or 2 might be fired, just because we can.
OH DARN NOW I'M EXCITED !!! Can't wait to see ya'll.

Come to think of it. I'd look pretty cute riding a donkey around the farm with a double barrel across my lap, following my bird dogs. haha

Ok Dave, that reminds me of the movie "terror in tiny town"! Midget western shot at the same time as wizard of oz at same time! Must see!
-
donkey mounted archery?sounds fun.
-
I think Ozzy would have an unfair advantage. His feet will touch the ground. Me and Steve won't have that problem ;D
-
LMAO ;D
-
you guys are nuts!...
-
just in case Clint's surprise isn't a donkey, I have a plan B. I put a saddle on the hood of the riding mower. It's a team event 1 driver and 1 archer. Does this have, "hold my beer and watch this" written all over it. haha. Guys this is just a joke.

That might be a good thing to to Dave ;)

Man, I cant wait! Its been a long winter :-[ im ready for some bow making. And. . . . the riding lawn mower/archery challenge ;D. I am picking up a 1911 tomorrow hopefully. Not fancy like Steve's, but probably still out shoot him
-
I hope the 1911 deal works out for you, Greg. I've always liked 1911, having shot some that friends own. But, I've never owned one. They are on my bucket list of firearms to own, just because I want one. Even the smallest 1911 clones are a bit large IMO for conceal carry and they are bit too small to hunt with, so I've not gotten around to making the investment.
When Brian and I were at a gun shop together last month, he purchased a S&W MP in a .40 cal. While not really a 1911,but close enough. It shot well. I like the caliber. It seems anywhere you look for ammo, about the only caliber on the shelves is .40's. I think Brian is bring that to Moon Tree. That maybe 2nd on my list of next guns to purchases. I think next on my list will be a nice .22 pellet rifle with speed above 850 fps. It would be sweet to pop squirrels, bunnies and bullfrogs with it around the farm.
-
Good, high velocity pellet rifles are very handy indeed. I like the looks of the M&P handguns. I had a Glock .40 for a time. It was a real shooter.
-
Here is a little history on how this became the second annual. Pasted a few random comments in here and had to laugh at Ozzy's!
http://www.primitivearcher.com/smf/index.php/topic,36172.0.html
I'm in Richmond, KY about 1 1/2 from Louisville.
Hey guys, I'm not trying to hijack a Louisville gathering of bow makers, but I just thought I'd throw this out there. It seems I'm pretty much centrally located (about an 1 1/2 to 2 hours) from most of the folks who has responded to this threat. I wouldn't mind hosting a gathering here. I have a 16x20 workshop, a 50 acre farm for camping and shooting, two 3-D target with 4 shooting stations and could bushhog more station if anyone has more 3-D targets to bring. I have a guest cottage with 2 beds and floor space. We could make a weekend of it. Mid-March to mid-April would work for me.
I second hedgeapple's suggestion sounds like he already has the set up to have a gathering. I have rock staves some boards and river cane. I would really like to knap with you Tracy do you have Indiana hornstone in your area? I am pretty flexible if y'all set a date I could keep it open so I could come up.
I want to go too
Tracy the dates will be March 22,23 and 24.
If anyone has 3-d targets they could bring, let me know and I'll bush hog a place to set them up.
Dave Richmond, KY

I think its funny Tracy and Ozzy had to drive for three hours and found out they are neighbors ;D
Dave, The M&P is a nice gun. Its next on my list. A friend had the 9mm and I shot great with it. It settled right back into position after each shot.
I need to get some ammo before I head south.
-
Thanks for the nostalgic perspective, Tracy.
Greg, Clint, Brian's brother in law, buys, sells trades guns all his life, as well as reloads and shoots. He told Brian the MP .40 was his favorite of all the guns he owns. That was good enough for Brian, who was looking for a concealable/open carry pistol. The price wasn't bad either, $480 new at our favorite little gun shop in Allen County.
-
I bought the 1911. It looks good and is a smooth operator. It is not a major name brand (TISAS), but the fit and finish is good and it has great reviews. It was new in the box from a friend of mine for $275. They are $399 at the gun store. I'm happy with it. I still miss my Glock, though.
-
I think its funny Tracy and Ozzy had to drive for three hours and found out they are neighbors
Yeah that was pretty ironic! 8 miles as the crow flies over the hills to be exact on how close!
-
you did good on that deal Greg.i have heard good things about those guns.i have a m&p 45 Dave.they are great guns.
-
24 . . . .It's getting closer!!

Here's what I'm thinking for meals:
Friday night Fish Fry
1. Saturday night I have a couple ideas. You guys help me decided:
I could set up a wood burning pizza oven and a pizza station: Everyone makes their own pizza. I've done this for other parties on the farm. Down sides to this, I have to move the concrete blocks and fire bricks from the party field to the house. I'd kind of like to bring it to the house anyway. It takes about 2 hours to get the oven hot enough for pizzas. It'll make 12 to 15 pizza's before it needs to be reheated, that will take another hour. But it is pretty fun.
2. I could smoke a couple deer shoulders. I know I have 2 shoulders, I might need another one just to be sure we have enough. Or I can supplement with other deer meat. I would make my vinegar base BBQ sauce to go with it.
Let me know what you guys prefer.
-
Great idea on the shoulders! I just happen to have two (albeit small) hind quarters off my first self bow kill that are just waiting for the appropriate time to thaw. I couldn't think of a better way than to share them with my friends that helped me get started in primitive archery. So, chalk me up for two small deer hind quarters and a cheesecake or two.
23. . . . :)
-
Sounds great to me Dave. I've never had a fire baked pizza. What can I bring?
-
I'm up for whatever Dave just let me know what I need to bring.
-
I'll have to check the freezer but I might have some deer roast I could bring and make in my slow cooker with some potatoes and carrots.
Dave, are we going to eat dinner before midnight this year? Just kidding ;D I went to bed early that night :P and missed it.
-
Clint, have you been talking to Brian. I'm usually the camp cook. I'm notorious for midnight suppers. Even on a daily bases at home, Schuy and I don't eat till 8 or 9 on a good night.
Greg, the way I usually smoke the shoulders is to cook them at 200 degrees until medium rare. That takes nearly 2 hours. Then I cut the meat from the bone, put them in an aluminum pan with my BBQ to warm it back up and serve it. I'll try to remember to dig through the freeze tomorrow to what I have. I can't remember if I kept all 4 shoulders from my deer last season or if I cut up the first two. I have some apple wood for the smoking. :) Apple is my favorite, 2nd is cherry, 3rd hickory.
If someone wants to take charge of the pizza station, we could do that for lunch (noon to 2) Saturday, then smoke venison for supper. Doing pizza's is pretty easy. All the time involve is in the prep because everyone cooks their own. Prep includes dicing onion and pepper, setting out bowls of toppings: onion, peppers, peperoni, sausage, pizza sauce, cheese and any other ingredients ones wishes to add. And building and maintaining a fire to get the pizza oven hot. Of course, I'd been available to assist and advise. I just don't want to occupy 2 to 3 hours of my time with lunch and 2 to 3 hours with supper. I'd like to spent some time in the shop. But doing the pizza isn't 2 hours solid work. Prepping may an hour, more like 30 minutes. Building the fire is like 20 minutes, shoot the range add more wood, BS add more wood... The actual "work time" is 45 minutes to maybe an hour. The actual time from start to finish is about 3 hours. I have the pizza dough, pizza sausage and tomato sause. When it comes to cook time, I'd be ther to instruct the pizza builders on how to cook their pizza.
-
Sounds great to me Dave. I've never had a fire baked pizza. What can I bring?
Probably a lot better than the chicken sammich from Frisch's! :o

Dave, FYI, if your deer has 4 shoulders... you might live too close to a nerve gas storage facility... :o
So for the riding mower/shooting challenge... is that a moving target holder?? :D Can I shoot?????
I'm planning to come Friday and reassess your habitat plan.... I'll bring some more food plot seed..
Looking forward to it, good weather to come!
-
I've been stuck in the house more than I like and decided to head down to join in the fun. I should be in Friday afternoon if all goes well. I look forward to meeting some new folks and finally flinging some arrows after this winter.
I'm far from a chef but can make and freeze enough venison chili to feed the crew (15-20?) for Sunday lunch if that would help? Just let me know and I'll get on it!

Looking forward to meeting you Dan.

Tracy,
I think I'll have enough fish, mostly catfish and some turtle. Wow duck gumbo? :o I haven't have duck gumbo since I worked on the oil rigs off the coast of Louisiana back in 1977. Yum Yum.
DBar
-
Don't forget the Cheesecake and Butterfinger cake my wife is sending. Makes me wonder. . .she seems to be glad to send me away for a few days. Hmm.
-
I'll check the deer status in the deep freeze tomorrow.
I can bring some soft drinks. What does everyone like?
-
wapiti1997, you forget I live in Madison County with the nerve gas storage facility. I'll tell you that 4 shouldered deer didn't know if he was coming or going. haha
Thanks Tracy for stepping up as pizza chef and putting together this list.
I also, have pizza sausage.
-
Do you still aim behind the shoulder? :-\
-
I can get whatever is left guys I must have missed this thread haha. I can bring a sledge and my splitting wedges if we will be splitting again this year too? I should be up around Friday too.
-
I plan on bringing some hackberry logs to split up and share. Better bring those wedges.
-
I have a splitting maul and 3 wedges also. I'll bring those.
-
Do you still aim behind the shoulder? :-\
He doesn't aim... remember him shooting the new bow for the first time at the 3d target over 100 yards and hitting it.. He becomes the arrow.... :D
-
Ah yes . . . . I do recall a super shot. Still amazed by that.
-
Drats, my deer only had 2 shoulders. haha
So, I have 2 shoulders and a 3 pound rump roast.
Greg, if you'll bring a hind quarter we should be fine.
-
There kinda small (no, really small), so I'll bring two.
21 more days!!!
-
Sounds like we'll be eating good ....................
But I'd like to know what you guys will be working on at Moon Tree.........
I hope to be skinning my 60" sinew back osage recurve, I've got about 500 arrows through her and the tiller has held strong the last 200 shots, I think the sinew must be stable/cured. :) I shot it at the Scottsville shoot last weekend and it shot real well. I'm working on a couple of his and hers bows for my daughter and son-in-law. I've got his bow well under way and will be working on her bow at Moon Tree. The his and her bows is a fairwell gift to my kids. Not long ago we found out that they are moving to Huntsville, AL next year with his job. My wife and I will really miss them, we all love the outdoors, and we have had great times at our camp together on the weekends during the summer. my son-in-law is a very good turkey hunter and has supplied me with wings and feathers every spring. So of course, I'm going to back both bows with turkey breast feathers. :) ;)
Come on, lets here what you guys will be working on ;D..............
DBar
-
Does anyone want some walnut cherry sassafras white oak (straight grain) maple maybe spalted maple or persimmon? I can bring some in anyone is interested. What else do we need food wise is beer or homemade wine considered food? Does anyone have any baculum? Also looking for some cane that would do well for lower poundage bow (25-35)? Do we need anything to seal that hackberry with? I know I owe Greg and ozzy stuff.
-
Daniel,
I'll bring some 25-35# range cane for ya, will a doz or two be good?...................
DBar
-
Good news! I found some deer roast. I can throw some in the slow cooker for a quick and easy meal.
I'm not sure what I will bring. I'm working on a bow for my daughter also Bill. I'm going to start tillering it tomorrow. I might have it done before I head to Dave's. I'm going to try and have something ready to sinew back while we are there.
-
That would be great Bill dozen would do fine. What you looking for in exchange? Idk what I'm bringing either have one I would like to finish before hand so I can actually join the shoot with my own bow this time out.
-
That would be great Clint :) .......I could get a few more pointers on sinew backing. After the his and her bows I going to do another short sinew backed bow. I really like sinew.....Might do a sinew backed ERC. I've got plenty ERC at the camp but I haven't cut any....now I know what I need to do next time I'm there.......
Daniel, I'm not picky or need much that's for sure....but anything straight grain would be a welcome relief from some of the pieces I've been working lately. you can count on some light weight cane shafts for sure. ;)
DBar
-
Daniel, is the persimmon in stave form? That is on my list of wood that I want to try.
-
I'm hopefully gonna be working on a bendy shorty. Might have it ready for sinewing lessons by then. DLH, you dont owe me anything. I couldnt produce on the holly staves. I will bring some small pieces tho.
-
Greg,
I've done one sinew and it's working out purty good. Clint will be there, and I'm sure he'll be providing some good lessons on sinewing that's for sure.
DBar
-
Daniel just look at the list on page 8 and let me know what you want to bring and I'll add it to the list. What you mentioned sounds good.
Man I need to finish a bow! I'll look at staves that I've worked on with Ozzy this summer and drag them with. I'll be bringing knapping tools and various rock to beat on. Oh yeah Dave, I'll remember my tarp this time :D . Bringing some Tonkin shafts as well and arrows to finish between all the eating and bs :(
Tracy
-
Tracy,
One of these days I'm gona get into knappn and you will have a thousand questions form me. We need to get some kind of trade going for some hunting points for next fall. Lets talk about it at Moon Tree, what do you think?
DBar
-
I know for a fact that Tracy makes some lethal hunting points ;)
-
No Clint it's just board form left over from a table. I may be getting some this spring but idk if the sap would be up by the end of the month especially with persimmon I think they run later. I have some sugar maple and hackberry staves that are straight if that would work for ya?
-
This is gonna be good!! OO, any hints yet on the surprise?
-
No more hints Greg.
Thats OK Daniel. I am looking for persimmon stave. I wonder if they would notice a tree missing from the Scottsburg bow range.
-
I don't think they would especially if it's cut close to the ground and covered well. Think they would notice a chainsaw running during the shoot?
-
Thanks Clint! Bill ask away and as it gets warmer I will start knapping more and Make some hunting points for you.
Clint I'm thinking about cutting some of mine down when the sap runs.
-
It was a B E E E U U A T I F U L L L day on the farm today. It was still white in spots and sloshing everywhere. But, I got a little work done. I burned 2 small brush piles that were behind the cottage, moved the deflated pool and moved an old trailer frame. Now there's room for some campers. :) After all that work, I needed to have some fun.
I'm trying to re-learn with 54 year old eyes, how to shoot my Rossi lever action rifle, 38/357 of course, to go along with my Blackhawk. My goal is use it at a 50 yard deer rifle. To feel comfortable doing that, I want to be able to 5 shots is a 4 1/4 circle (black area) at 50 yards. I'm getting there.
-
Nice Dave can't wait to get there ;D
-
Getting closer. I hope this warm weather keeps up.
-
Warm weather would be reeeeal nice right about now. I'm typically a cold weather guy but am ready for spring in the worst way.
I picked up a Ruger 1911 on impulse while at Cabela's today I'll probably bring down as well as possibly my cap and ball revolver.
-Dan
-
Great. I've never shot a 1911 or a cap and ball revolver. Are you bringing that stave? Hopefully its a bow by now.
Does anyone know if Derik is coming this year?
-
I'm working on that stave as my #1 bow swap bow. It's roughed out and ready for the caul. There's a good chance it will be down there being worked on.
-Dan
-
Awesome! I'd like to see what you are making out of it.
-
now I have to bring my cap and ball revolver.what kind do you have Dan?mine is an 1858 Remington 44 replica.haven't shot in quite some time, but it is a blast to shoot.
-
Same thing Mr. Bass. Just a cheap Pietta Clone of a Remington 1858. Fun gun to plink with. Real fun when there's no wind!
-Dan
-
Great. I've never shot a 1911 or a cap and ball revolver. Are you bringing that stave? Hopefully its a bow by now.
Does anyone know if Derik is coming this year?
I think he has spring break same time as me. I'll send him the link.
Tracy
-
Thanks Tracy. I'm sure he would have a good time hanging out with us.
-
17. . . .
-
Thanks Tracy. I'm sure he would have a good time hanging out with us.
Derik doesn't think he can swing it with the Classic coming up and other obligations.
-
That's a bummer.
-
I had a beautiful, busy day off. I cut firewood for pizza oven and the workshop (if needed), hauled up blocks and fire bricks from the party field to construct said pizza oven. Also, brought up the smoker from the party field. Then I mowed the 3-D course. At that point I needed a break from physical work, so I reloaded some .38 shells, then shot most of them. :)
There's still a lot I want to do before you guys get here, but it was a real good start. I'm off tomorrow, also, but it's supposed to rain. If it rains, I'll clean the workshop and the cottage.
-
Sounds like you are working hard Dave. We can pitch in and help do some stuff when we get down there.
What calibers do you reload? I did a little shooting today also.
-
Dave, I have a 3d deer target I can bring to use on the course if you'd like.
It's been so long since I shot I figured I'd better break out the bow and fling a few arrows in the basement. My archery muscles are a bit out of shape. I'll be feeling it tomorrow.
-Dan
-
DLH, your inbox is full. Is your new bride coming with you? I'd love to meet her. If so, the twin bed in my office might be too small for both of you. I can set up my little camper if you like. I'm just trying to get a handle on sleeping accommodations for those you need them.
-
If its warm enough I'll bring my tent and let somebody else have the bottom of the cabin. I snore like a bear with sinus problems, it might be better if I'm outside anyway.
-
Sorry, Clint. You book your room in June. I can't give you back your deposit. haha
-
I like the tent idea, too. If it's going to be in the 40's or warmer at night, that's what I'll do. If not, then I'll sleep in the truck. I used to reload, but didn't get into pistol calibers. All rifle rounds and most of that was .223 for my AR 15. Wish I had kept that jewel. It was a shooter. It would shoot 3/8" groups all day with my "pet load" and no wind.
15. . . .
-
Dave id be more concerned with food than accommodations with Clint. Ever been around him when he is hungry? Real hungry?
-
PD, we didn't have to worry about that last year. Think he had a cock fight going on after a bad batch of chicken fingers!
-
I remember that now Greg, uh oh. He will be try to "catch up" this year, better keep the food flowing or you'll have one grouchy Clint on your yellow hands.
-
I remember that now Greg, uh oh. He will be try to "catch up" this year, better keep the food flowing or you'll have one grouchy Clint on your yellow hands.
Ha! I'll keep an eye on him. Should be lots of yellow.
-
If I wasn't grouchy last year going through that, there is no way I'll be grouchy this year.
-
Clint was s*;ting and getting last year not grouchy >:D
-
Clint was s*;ting and getting last year not grouchy >:D
Haaa ha! Good one Oz.
-
Thought about bringing the pop up camper but may just put up a tent. I hope the weather evens out and starts warming a little for this event. Going to start getting things rounded up and ready to load because it will be here before you know it!
Anyone have access to some longer cane for atl atl darts? I'm wanting to make one and will need longer shafts than the ones I have. Also, anyone with atl atl experience I would like to learn more if possible.
Tracy
-
Dave,
I'm camping out of the back of my truck, no sleeping accommodations needed for me, thanks
Tracy,
What size....... dia and length of cane? I'll bring some.
-
Thanks guys for sleeping info.
I think I'll go into town and get a Frishes chicken sandwich tomorrow for Clint, just in case he gets hungry. I'll just put in the workshop. I should be just right by the time he gets here. >:D
Tracy, Lowes usually have 5 or 6 foot bamboo stakes, probably used for staking out pole beans.
-
Make sure to put it in the window so it can get some sun Dave.
Tracy, I think our local Lowes has 6' sections of bamboo like Dave mentioned. If you want river cane let me know. There is a patch about 40 minutes away from home.
-
I have some river cane sources in Whitley County, KY that I could stop at on my way up to Richmond. Matter of fact, I may be up that way this weekend. If so, I will be cutting some cane. What diameter and length?
-
Im looking for 5'-6' and maybe up to a dozen. This is a new one for me so I'm going to start with those lengths. Diameter should be about same as arrow material Greg. Don't inconvenience yourself, just thought I would try this first then get some from stores if not.
Thank you
Tracy
-
Does anybody need any bandsaw blade material for trade points or small knives? They have a couple old blades at work that I can get before they throw away. They are 1" wide and made from good steel. Let me know.
-

I would have thought they would need to be a bit larger in diameter (spine) for that length. I'll see what I can round up.
-
DLH....Your PM inbox is full, :o Can't send you a return PM...........
I'm going to the camp this weekend I'll bring you and Tracy some river cane in the 5-6 ft range. I'm not sure what diameter at the small and big end to get but if I don't here from you guys I'll make a guess. :-\. Maybe I'll drop Derik a PM and ask him....
Clint,
If they haven't thrown it away yet I'd like to try some trade points out of a piece of bandsaw. :)
-
Count me in too Clint if you have any spare. I wouldn't mind trying my hand at making my own trade points for next fall.
-Dan
-
Bill and Dan. I'll try and grab the blades tomorrow at work. They make excellent single bevel points. They are thin but very strong. They cut stainless stock with them. I think they are .036" thick. I use them with cane/bamboo and add a 16 penny nail shaft right behind the point in the core of the shaft. The point/nail combo weighs 185 grains.
-
That would work great. Thanks Clint
-
I got them Bill. I cut them down to sections so they will be easier to haul. They will make a lot of points.
-
Sounds great Clint..... :)
Dan and Tracy,
Talked to Derik, and he thought 1/2" - 3/4" at the big end would be good, that way you have a good spine and something left at the fletch end. He has used darts between 4-6 ft. I'll cut some tomorrow and bring them to Dave's. You two can fight over them. :) ;)
Boy this outing is shaping up to be one cool event. I think ... I can see hedgeapple Dave in the not to distant future wearing bib overalls. :) ;) ::)
Till next time,
DBar
-
Clint if you a spare piece of that saw blade, I might give trade point making a try. But, of course after Tracy's tutelage in knapping I'm sure I'll be able to make all the stone points I can shoot. haha Not poking fun of Tracy's ability to teach knapping, just my ability to learn that quickly. :)
If anyone would be interested in trading processed sinew for raw sinew, let me know. I've tried several times to process some, but it just hurts too much from my finger tips to my shoulder pulling it apart. I know it's a pain to process, so don't feel obligated to make a trade.
Today, I got some more work done around the place. I poured, or should I say re-poured a concrete slab for the pizza oven. The original slab for an outdoor fireplace had sunk on one end side. I needed to level it out. I cut some chunks of apple wood for smoking venison quarters and tidied up around the place.
Anyone want a Lee Load-All for a 20 guage? I seem to have 2 of them. This one could use a little cleaning up and is missing the little metal bolt looking device for seating the primer. I image it to be maybe a $3 or $4 part. I'll check at my reloader store this week to see if he has one in stock or can order the piece.
Less than 2 weeks WooHoo! I got shoot a bow some. I haven't shot a bow since Dec. :(
-
That would be great Bill. Like I said its a new venture for me and need to to do more research.
Dave, sounds like we just need to grab some sinew and process while everyone is sitting around the fire.
Less than two weeks now!
Tracy
-
Just got back from camp.......... :o what a great day!!!!!
Dave, sounds like your hard at it, I'm sure all your hard work will be really appreciated by all, but don't go to to much trouble, we/I had a great time last year. I just want to thank you for having us all out to your place for this gathering. THANKS!! again.
Bill
-
Bill, I'm looking forward to having you guys here, again. To be honest, between the Classic last year and the Moon Tree Gathering is a couple weeks is too long to go without seeing friends. I've missed you all.
Most of the work I'm doing is stuff that needed done, anyhow. My next big, must do projects is to clean up the cottage (I don't think it's been cleaned since the last gathering) and to straighten up the shop so we can find the work benches. haha Of course, the car port needs a major cleaning. That one will make my wife REALLY happy. haha If time permits, I'm going to construct a shooting back stop. The rolled hay I've been using is starting to let the .357's pass through it. Imagine that.
-
I know what you mean Dave, Work really kicked my butt during Thanksgiving this year, and I really missed the opportunity to bust some bunnies. We've really got to do it next year.
Bill
-
Dave, you should come to the Sept. shoot/camping weekend at Scottsburg this fall. Its a good time and not that far of a drive for you.
-
11 more days!! It's getting close. :)
-
Dave, is there going to be a long shot setup like last year? >:D
Tracy
-
Clint, I'll think about the Scottsburg shoot. Keep me post as much in advance as possible as to when it is. Deer archery season starts here the first of Sept. It seems I have deer on my place early in the season and by mid-October not so much. And Brian and I do an annual bow hunt at his place usually the 3rd or 4th weekend. We usually set the date for that hunt by July, so I have plenty of time to request off work.
-
You all might want to be cautious coming to Scottsburg for the 2 day event in September. There are a lot of bad influences around that place! Of course I would be glad to introduce to all of them!
-
Tracy, all the targets are in the same place as they were last year. I wanted to move some around but my tractor is sick at the moment. The bedded buck will always be there, so as to keep the "long shot" tradition. But, I'm pretty sure that me hitting the buck with one shot, will not be a tradition for long. ;D
-
You aren't fooling anyone Dave. We all know you have been practicing that shot all year (http://rabbittalk.com/images/smilies/icon_lol.gif)
Do you have an outlet I could run an extension cord to and put a small space heater in my tent? It might get pretty chilly in there at night.
Just a week and a half to go (http://rabbittalk.com/images/smilies/icon_razz.gif)
-
Dang, if it wasn't so far I'd come. That and fact that I forgot how to string a bow. 😎
-
Dang, if it wasn't so far I'd come. That and fact that I forgot how to string a bow. 😎
Can't be that far gmc, many of us are from out of state with Dan coming from Michigan.
Clint, you don't need a heater, Dave's got the Brittanies that will cuddle up with you and keep you warm :o
-
Might be a bad idea Tracy. Once I start snoring they will think they are in a tent with a grizzly.
-
GREG !!! where in heck have you been? Get you butt over here and I'll string your bow for you. >:D I'm sure you have some pistolas that need to be shot, also.
Don't let GMC fool you guys. He's only about 30 minutes away.
Clint I have plenty of outlets for you to connect to. As for the brittanies, I'm pretty particular who I let my dogs sleep with. I'll have to see your papers and bloodlines. ???
-
You aren't fooling anyone Dave. We all know you have been practicing that shot all year
Honestly, I shot about 25 arrows at the buck when I finished my red oak trade bow. I think I shot 5 or 10 arrows at it with another bow, but can't really remember. Now, that's not to say that I won't shoot 100 arrows at it tomorrow, though ;)
-
Just saw the forecast and you might need the long johns and a heater Clint with an Arctic air mass working our way.
Dave's probably been using trees behind the target like sight pins to practice drilling the target >:D
Anyone else bringing food items that I need to add to p.8?
-
Clint I have plenty of outlets for you to connect to. As for the brittanies, I'm pretty particular who I let my dogs sleep with. I'll have to see your papers and bloodlines. ???
Sounds like your SOL Outlaw!! Nice shot Dave!!
-
Dave, thanks for the invite. My plan is to be there before lunch on Friday. I will be sleeping the truck when I can find it, so no special provisions needed. :)
Looking forward to meeting everyone!
-
Looking forward to meeting DGF and GMC in person.......
I've read many older posts from GMC and I can tell he is no stranger to bows and arrows..... :)
Time is getting closer.....
DBar
-
I stopped and got a few supplies after work tonight. I can't wait to pack up the truck and head south. It will be nice to put some new faces with names.
-
I got the pizza oven constructed today. I also built a back stop for shooting. The electric company was kind enough to leave an electric pole on my property when they replaced. Man, those poles are heavy. Even cut into 8' sections I couldn't left one end to flip it into the truck. I had to hook a log chain to end it and drag them from the front of the farm. Good thing I have a Tacoma who loves pulling things. I really need another electric pole to finish the first phase the way I really want it. If I had cut it into 6 foot lengths, I would have been better. I'll probably take it down tomorrow and redo it with the 2 foot left over sections on the bottom. That will get the longer pieces to the top where I want them.
If anyone has old tires laying around and room to haul them down here, I have a use for them.
-
GMC, that is great news. You made my day. It will be good to see you again, old friend.
-
Dave, it will be good to see you again as well old friend. What do I need to bring?
Danzn, looking forward to meeting you as well. Yes, no stranger to the bow but its been awhile.
Outlaw, did I read somewhere back in the post that you are looking for a persimmon stave? Is it for overlays or bow building material? There is good possibility that I may have one.
I'd be in the market for a good Osage stave if anyone has an extra one laying around. ;D
Looking forward to this, fun stuff......
-
Mike, Mike, Mike. What day is it? It's 9 days until Moontree! Made reservations last night at Dave's Bed N Bows. :)
-
GMC, I was looking for a persimmon bow stave. If you have an extra to bring that would be great. I'm sure we could work out something. I'm going to cut a hackberry tree and bring to split and share. I will probably bring a piece or two of osage as well.
-
GMC, we cut, I believe 40 plus osage staves last year at the gathering. I think I might have a stave or two that is up to your standards. You're welcome to look through the pile.
-
GMC, here's a list Tracy started. Fill free to add anything. We could use some side items for the smoked venison meal.
Ozzy(you are first on this list >:D)- pizza toppings
Hedgeapple- venison for smoker, pizza dough and sauce, sausage and cheese
Brian-
Osage Outlaw- pop/water, slow cooker venison roast
Danzn Bar- fish/turtle for fry... DUTCH OVEN APPLE COBBLER
DGF- venison chili
wapiti1997- food plot seed for the vegetarians
Gsulfridge- venison for smoker, cheesecake, butterfinger cake
DLH- homemade beverages
seabass- beer
Gsulfridge Cheesecake and Butterfinger
Tracy- duck gumbo, veggie tray
-
With all that food how are we going to have time for bow making?
-
Who cares about bows Clint! EAT!
Im officially jealous now........Glad to get an opportunity to see a few of you in Marshall.
-

Im officially jealous now........Glad to get an opportunity to see a few of you in Marshall.
Amen PD!
I might get to Marshall this year if the school calendar doesnt get extended any more. Sounds like a good time!
Dave, do I need to bring the Stihl?
-
Tracy, You might see me and Bill at Marshall this year.
Just a little over a week away now! (http://rabbittalk.com/images/smilies/chicken-87.gif)
-
Id love to meet you Tracy, at least I think so.....;)

I just blew water out my nose, when I saw your chicken icon. haha
Tracy, I have 3 chainsaws that were working a couple weeks ago. Although the small Stihl seem a little dull from cutting up the osage tree tops for firewood for the pizza oven.
-
That's better than blowing water out your.....uh, never mind (http://rabbittalk.com/images/smilies/D.gif)
-
:o Boy your a nut Clint, I really like those chickens
DLH, Got some light weight shafts cut and their purty dry, might be ready to start mak'n arras.
The Atal Atal canes are cut, stayed closer to 1/2" at the big end, and about 6 ft long, they look good but not even close to dry.
Dave, I'll be there around 9 Friday morning, save me the best camp'n spot ......level
Gett'n closer, till then,
Bill
-
Chicken Outlaw, I got your sammish in the window fermenting.
Bill, I'm on a hill there's no place level. haha Well the pistol shooting range is pretty level. But we might have to open your window to get a pass through. haha Well, find a level spot. Are you bringing your camper or staying in the truck? 9AM sounds good.
-
I'll be sleeping in the back of the truck.
-
Id love to meet you Tracy, at least I think so.....;)
References....upon request ;D
Clint, sounds good with Marshall. Went there 20 some years ago and had fun, but it might not be the same event.
Bill, we'll have to work out a trade for some cane ;)
Can't wait to get there!
-
Gonna be hard to live that down, OO! Like how you just "roll with it."
-
What else can you do but laugh about it Greg (http://rabbittalk.com/images/smilies/th_Chicken_Smiley.gif)
-
Bill, that'll be easy for us to get you level. We'll just let some air out of the tires. Problem solved. haha Actually, when you get here, don't pull up to the house. Turn left at the bottom of the hill before after you cross the ravine in the driveway, but before you get to the kennel. Then turn right passed the shed, between the shed and the rail fence. It should level out pretty well by the maple tree. We'll be doing all of our cooking on the back patio. So, that'll work out well.
Those of you pulling trailers follow the same path, EXCEPT go passed the rail fence. DON'T go right of the board wood pile. My septic tank is there. I'll have flags up to remind you. The rail fence denotes where out garden was. At the end of the garden there's a school desk modified into a shoot bench. Don't park between the school desk/shooting bench and the roll of hay. You'll be on the shooting range if you do.
-
Them sound like so very easy directions to follow. ;) ;D ;D Yall have fun, hope to make it one day.I know it will be a hoot. :)
Pappy
-
Pappy, you should take a weekend off and come hang out with us for a day or two. Good food, good people, bow making, do a little shooting. Sounds like a good time to me.
-
I'm sure Dave wouldn't mind another Tennessean (I'm not native, born in Kentucky) and if he did, I'm sure he would make an exception for you Pappy. ;) It would have to be a relief to be at an event where you didn't have so much responsibility and could just hang out and have fun. Hope to see you at Moon Tree some day.
-
Just saw the forecast and looks like 60 and cloudy both days 8)
Trying to talk my dad into making the trip with me. He doesn't make bows , yet, but has a wealth of knowledge when it comes to woodworking.

What the heck ????? Dang, sure there's not a hog lot or a mailbox there somewhere to turn right at? Hope I can find my Gps. >:D
-
Dave, you may have to set up valet parking!
-
I found a good hackberry tree to cut for you guys. I should get 3 or 4 sections out of it. I was thinking about cutting it Wednesday afternoon. I'll seal the ends and hope that the bark will still slip off when I get down there with it Friday morning. We can all watch Daniel split it up (http://club.omlet.co.uk/forum/download/file.php?avatar=3871.gif)

Ditto what OO said... Pappy, You should take a weekend off and join us, it's not far away from you at all despite hedgeapple's directions
I'm start'n to get things together this weekend,
See you guys soon,

Can I assume that I turn left at the board pile since the directions tell me not to go right? What if I go straight, will it put me over the septic tank? How close are the flags to the tank? Which side is the end of the garden as I'm looking at the desk? I'm really starting to stress about this a little. Maybe valet parking is a good idea....
You know I'm gona have fun with this for a little while longer, right?

What kind of sides do I need to bring for the meals?
Any suggestions?

You guys are killing me. haha Maybe this will help.
Bill your arrow turns right and is in yellow. Everyone else follow the red arrows to find a spot. There's about 1/2 acre of fairly flat ground. The septic tank is to the right of the wood pile as you're driving in, between the wood pile and the house.
Don't park on the light blue lines. That's the shooting range.
-
Dang Dave, what'd you do, rent a helicopter and get an over head? Oh the wonders of modern technology. Now, what about us folks that are color blind? :-\
-
Hey Greg ya can still read n write? N if ya can't see colors go drink some real mountain dew and come back n look at it and you'll be seeing all kinds of scribbly colored lines..lol
Hmmmmm??....got me thinking..n cabin fever isn't helping
Im gonna miss all the busting balls, stories,n laughter the most this year not being there...sure the other stuff is fun,but the fellowship amongst fellow like minded folks n friends is always the best about get togethers ;) ;D
-
You might as well just pack up and head on down, hawk. Oh, I's jest messin wit Dave (I haint colour blined, butt I ded lern two reed en rite). ::) :P :)
-
So we are setting up the tents in the septic leach beds? (http://rabbittalk.com/images/smilies/icon_mad.gif)
I'm sure we will figure it out when we get there Dave

It's to mask the smell of the chicken sammich. ::) This time next week and everyone will start rolling in. I can't wait.
-
Clint, I thought it would be good for you to set up your tent on the septic tank. We can open the clean out pug and you can go straight to source, cut out the middle man (toilets and pips). haha With 3 foot of back fill over the lines, I've never had an issue with ground seepage.
GMC, can you bring your chronograph? I'd like to fire a couple of my reloads through it to see how fast they're moving. As for side items for the smoked venison, a bag a potatoes we could roast in the oven would be good, and/or anything else that would go with BBQ like cole slaw, baked beans...

Ok, based on that high tech areal photo now, I may just do an air drop with a drone close to the blue line. 👍
-
The photo came from googleearth or maybe mapquest. I can't remember which.
-
Ok, not sure about slaw but I can handle the rest. Btw, I'll be finally bringing the locust bow with me. It's still not done, needs a handle treatment and string. Surely we can get that done during all the excitement. I still got to look for the golf club material though. >:D
-
I'm so ready to head south I can't hardly stand it ;D
-
I feel the same way Ozzy. Between the wife and the grown man babies at work I need to relieve some stress. I think flinging some arrows and some lead will do the trick (http://rabbittalk.com/images/smilies/gun_2guns.gif)

What, no chicken icon. :(
-
Sorry Dave (http://www.paganlibrary.com/phpBB3/images/smilies/117.gif)
-
Do you still have all those chickens running around your house Dave? If so, we have our moving targets (http://rabbittalk.com/images/smilies/gun_gun.gif) (http://www.chickencrossing.org/forum/img/smilies/chickenwalkin.gif)
-
I use to have a rooster that I would have gladly brought down and donated for a moving target or staked out for a long bow shot!
Just saw we had a chance for rain Friday. Does anyone have pop up awnings in case there is moisture?
Finally on spring break!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Looking forward to next week
Tracy
-
Clint, if the chicken became moving targets, the shooter would probably become a moving target for my wife.
Tracy, Schuy has a pop-up awning for her school. She might let me barrow it. Also, I can move the tractor and the boat out of the shed on the side of the workshop.
-
The chili is on the on the stovetop simmering now. It's got the whole house smelling good! We're getting closer!
-Dan
-
Bad news guys. My wife's grandfather is in the process of passing away. Depending on the timing this might affect how much time I am able to stay. I will try everything I can to be there for as long as I can. I'll keep you guys updated as I can.

Dan, chili sounds good about right now!
Tracy

Clint,
Hope everything works out for you and your family.....
Bill
-
Clint, sorry to hear about your grandfather. To repeat what everyone else said. Family First.
-
Sorry to hear that Clint my prayers are with your family.
-
Prayers to you and your family Clint. Like the others have said, family first.
-Dan
-
Thanks guys. He passed away this afternoon.
-

Very sorry to hear that, my condolences to you and your wife.
Tracy
-
Sorry to hear that Clint I wish you the best for your family. I guess I dropped the ball guys last time I checked this thread was only 10 pages :-[
-
Sorry for the loss. Condolences.
-
Same here, sorry for your loss.
Take care of the family.
-
Sorry to Hera that Clint.
-
Sorry to hear Clint.
-Dan
-
The services are either going to be Thursday or Friday. If they are Friday I probably won't get down there until Friday night sometime.
-
Clint, I'm so sorry for your lost. You do what you need to do. We'll see you when ever.
-
Sorry to hear that Clint.
Pappy
-
Bummer Clint. just went through the same thing with my beloved gramps a few weeks back. Sorry to hear that.
-
Sorry for your loss Clint.
-
Thanks guys.
The services are Friday morning. I would like to make it down there before dark Friday evening so I can set up the tent.
-
Clint, why don't you just stay in my little camper. I was planning on setting it up for someone to use, anyhow.
-
Three days!
Tracy
-
Sorry for your lose Clint, prays out to your family.
Dave I was hoping to make it down this year but not going to be able to.
-
Wish you could have made it Bear.
-
ah shucks, Bear. It would have been great having you here.
-
I just went to the basement freezer to get some of this winter's ducks for gumbo only to realize that the freezer quit running withing the the last few days. No odor but all is thawed and room temp >:(
Making a run to the landfill now.
Sooooo, chicken and sausage gumbo it is!
Tracy
-
Tracy, that really sucks that you lost all the food in the freezer. I've been there.
The cottage is ready for habitation. It's in better shape than most of the hunting cabins I've stayed in, but not all of them. :)
The septic tank is marked off. That's the one right of the wood pile. haha haha
-
I may be a little later arriving Friday than I had originally planned. I am going to stop in Williamsburg and harvest all the switch cane I can steal . . . er borrow, I meant. Did I say that out loud? >:D
-
Thanks Dave. I think I will take you up on that offer. I appreciate it.
-
Starting to pack some stuff in the truck ;D
Dave, I'll be there around 9:00 AM Friday.
I took a look at the weather and it looks like Old Danzn Bar is going to have to do a "NO Rain Dance" for Friday & Saturday.  ;)
-
Give it all you got Bill! It will be fun no matter rain or shine ;)
Greg, give me a call if you need someone to bail you out of the clink :o
Tracy
-
I'm going to clean out my truck tomorrow and start loading stuff up. I know I'll forget something. Good luck with the dance Bill. Tracy, sorry about the freezer going out. There is a lot of work that goes into harvesting wild game. Its a shame to loose the reward from it.
-
Clint, no problem.
I'm off work tomorrow. I got a lot of little stuff, I want to get done, like set out the venison to thaw and bring up a "table" (4x8 plywood on saw horses) from the party field. The big project is to clean the workshop, but that'll just take a couple hours. I probably need to reload some more shells.
I'm getting excited!!!
-

Ozzy, you're list as bringing pizza topping. I think I had said that I would get the cheese, I just wanted to check with you to make sure we don't duplicate it.
-
How many of you are bringing handguns to shoot this weekend?
-
I'll be taking some along. For sure the 1911 and cap & ball revolver. Possibly a couple others if I get around to packing them.
I'm thinking with the possible rain forecasted I'll be coming down towing my pop-up. I've got a couple bows I've been working on a bit I'll bring with me to keep busy. I hope to be in and set up mid day Friday.
-Dan
-
I also got cheese and I'll grad a bag full of other toppings at the store should be there by noon on Friday if not earlier ;D
-
My power steering just went out on my truck this morning. I'll have to investigate that and see where that puts me for this weekend. Hopefully I can get it resolved today without a snag in my plans. I'll be toting a 1911 up there Dave.
-
I'll be bringing a 9mm and a 44 mag.
-
Bummer Greg. Know the feeling.
Might bring 357 revolver if I can get some more ammo along the way.
Are we there yet? :D
Might delay my leave time due to the traffic jams on the bridge into KY so I'm not waiting to cross the river. Heard that it gets backed up bad during the morning rush. Should be there by 9/10.
Tracy
-
Tracy, I'll be reloading .357's and 38's, so I can hook you up with some boolits. And, if you want to beat the rush crossing the bridge, just come in Thursday evening.
-

Ha! Nope. F150. Found the issue. A rat got tangled up in the serpentine belt and knocked it off. Issue resolved!! Dirty rat!
-
Glad it was an easy fix for you Greg.
Does anyone have a few carrots they could bring to throw in with the deer roast and potatoes?
-
Just buy them cheap-o......man......Clint Goldstein......Cant believe you guys even want to hang with this joker.
-
Were short on friends lol
-
Was that a short joke Ozzy?
I'm already going to get down there late. I don't want to have to stop and find a grocery store on the way.
-
Yes it was sorry :(
-
Baby (short) carrots ok? If so, I gotcha covered.
-
Those should work Greg. Thanks. Don't listen to Ol' Grumpy Drums. He's just jealous he can't come hang out with this fine bunch of guys.
-
Were are you going to hang out with a bunch of fine guys at? >:D

8 more hours here at work and I don't have to be back until Monday night. :)
I still have to get my gear packed up and loaded down, but it shouldn't be much work. See you all soon!
-Dan
-
I got Clint's camper set up today. Clint, you probably still want to bring your space heater if you have one. We can use the one in my hotbox if not.
The other task for today was to get the tractor and boat out of the shed. Simple enough, just drive the tractor out and hook to the boat and drag it. But Murphy show up, that SOB. The tractor is sick and it had a flat tire. I had another trailer in front of the boat. It had a flat tire OFF the rim. I can usually pop a tire back on the rim pretty easily. But, I couldn't get the rim off the trailer and the tire was cold. I piddle with that tire for an hour. Then said to hell with and drug it over the hill the way it was. One of the boat trailer tires were flat, also. Oh and my loving wife had 10 bags of leaves pile around the boat that had to be loaded and hauled away.
By this time my back was aching and my temper was frazzled. An hour nap did wonders for the body and soul. I got 2/3 of the shop cleaned out. That place was a mess. I'll get the rest of straighten up tomorrow.
I got 65, target .357's loaded after dinner. That gives me about 125 rounds to shoot. If I need more, I'll just reload them.
The venison shoulders are set out to thaw. The plywood table is ready to set up. The apple wood chunks are out of the weather. Things are nearly ready. :)
-
Drive safe Dan-O. We need you in Marshall in a few months!
-
Man Dave, sounds like you had a busy day. I hate it when Murphy visits without invite.
Finished a few primitive arrows today. Going to have to get some pointers this weekend on fletch wrapping feathers, but they shoot well.
-
I'll finish packing tonight after my son's baseball games, then head out pre dawn. I plan a short stop over, but should arrive early morning. Dave, I can help with any last minute preparations you may have. I need to make a checklist, or I'm sure to forget something. ::)
-
Thanks for all the work you are doing for us Dave. And thanks again for the camper.
Here is the hackberry I'm bringing to split up. There should be some good staves in them. I sealed the ends but I didn't check the bark to see if it will slip off.
-
Good looking logs Clint. Hope I don't forget my wedges!!
-
I'm bringing my splitting stuff Greg so we will bust it up one way or another. I have the truck loaded up and ready to roll. I can't wait to head down 75 south tomorrow (http://www.australianpoultryforum.com/images/smilies/a_withstupid.gif)
-
nice looking logs OO Chicken. But, I bet Daniel can split them with couple flattened 16 penny nails and ballpeen hammer. ;)
-
Right handed sledge and wedges? I can only use left handed wedges and sledge ::)
Man, the gumbo is finishing and I'm not sure how much longer I can keep the rest of the family from overtaking me and eating it :D Found some crawfish and alligator to add to the sausage ;)
Thanks Dave and see you tomorrow!
Tracy

Here's a cool pic of some of the fun!
This guy doesn't need no stinking firearm to kill zombies. He's a regular Wytt Earp with that bow.
Dave, many thanks to ya old friend for a wonderful time. Sure had a lot of fun meeting and hanging out with everyone. Sorry that I had to cut it a little short Saturday.
Bunch of really talented bowers showed up for sure; got to see a Osage Longhorn bow (Ozzy), albino locust (Tracy) and some creative handle work on a light weight Osage created with a band saw (Greg) :). Even got to watch Wytt Earp make some rounds for this bow.
OO, thanks for the HH stave brother. Nice'en.
Hope Daniel got a few rounds off with that Locust, I'd give $13.00 for that bow right now.
Bill, I may try to talk Dave into helping me shoot some video at Moontree using the electric drawknife.
Wonderful time guys, great to meet everyone and looking forward to next year.
-
I too, enjoyed meeting new people at Moontree and left with more than I took. Great group of guys for sure.
Thanks Clint for the staves and awesome bow for my son
Daniel for the variety pack of accent wood
Tracy for the leather
Bill for the tillering tree attachment
Dan for the Purple Heart overlay material
Hickory Switch for the stave
Anyone else that I missed, I apologize
And finally, the Bearded Story Teller and host for the stave and putting on such a great event. I really enjoyed it. Thanks so much Dave, it was a blast ( one really big one!).
-
I'd give $13.00 for that bow right now.
$13.25!! ;)
-
GMC, I missed the electric draw knife demo. I would have sure liked to have seen that. Daniel was shooting that black locust bow pretty good on the course.

That's the outlaw side showing in Clint I couldn't shoot worth a dime but that was pure operator error. I'm thrilled with that bow I will be hunting with it this fall and maybe turkey season if I don't use a shotgun. Thanks for all the help on that locust Greg it's much appreciated it wouldn't have turned out as well as it did without you. I don't think I can let this bow go guys. Maybe the electronic drawknife would have been demonstrated if I didn't consume all of Greg's time all weekend. I'll bring your river cane to the classic Tracy think you will be there this year?

Guys, I had a great time hanging out with my old friends, again. And, meeting a new friend--Dan you're welcome back any time. Sorry about your Michigan State team, well not really.
List of things I found after everyone left.
A stanley tape measure
An Uncle Mike's holster
Whadda say we do it again next year?
Blackhawk and seabass, you guys were missed.
-
Thanks Daniel. We were almost out of the bluegrass state when I remembered :o . Yes I will be at the Classic Thursday - Saturday and that would be great to get them. Thanks!
Love the zombie shot Bill!

Dave I think the holster was mine. You can do with it what you like. It didn't fit my 1911 anyway. I also left a phone charger in the shop. If it will work for you, keep it as well. I have more.

I'll second that Dave!
Clint mentioned adding shooting clay pigeons next time and that sounds like fun. Going to have to make Bill use the bow and flu flus to even it up for the rest of us ;D

Sure we can shoot clay pigeons. Bill mentioned he had a thrower and I have one.
I think Bill might still out shoot us with flu flu's

Thanks Dave for hosting such a great event. I had a blast and appreciate all you put into making it happen. It was great to meet you all and take away so many new techniques.

Dan, it was a pleasure meeting you (except when I was shooting against you on the 3D range). You're an alright guy for a Spartan fan  Really enjoyed seeing you put those handguns through their paces. :)

Looks like yall had a great time, expect now less when you get a bunch like that together. :)

Greg, I found your "shop" apron out back. I'll bring it to you at the Classic. I might have to do some alterations to it though before I return it. How do you feel about pink poodles? >:D I, also, found the roll of steel you brought down. I'll try to cut it into 1 foot sections to share with those here who were drooling over it.
Dan (DGF) thought the most fun way to unload his clips were through the barrel.
-
Dave, I have plenty of denim aprons (none with pink poodles). As my shop is in the basement, my wife (THE WARDEN) really encourages the use of them to prevent unnecessary osage dust from getting packed upstairs. The roll of steel, well, I was hoping to get it distributed to anyone that wanted some for scrapers or trade points.
-
You'd be looking stylish with pink poodles on the apron Greg >:D
-
Dave, I think I left a pair of blue gloves on your front porch. You can throw them away if you want. They were an old pair. Thanks again for having us out to your place. I really enjoyed the time spent with some great PA guys.

Oh, most definitely. :o

OK WHO'S ROBBIN HOOD. I was just taking my battered arrows to the shop to repair them and realized. One of the arrows that a pulled the tip off of (probably on Sunday's shoot), also had the nock shot out of it. As best as I can remember it was down hill shot as the antelope. If memory serves (which it rarely does) Mr. Sulfridge was grouped pretty close me. Again, I could be wrong on all accounts. But, I'm not wrong about "someone" busting my nock. :)

Yea,,,,,,,I saw it when I pulled it from the target. ;)

My sincerest apologies if it was me! If your arrow was in the 10 ring, it was pure accident for my arrow to be in close proximity. Sorry
-
I don't think it was me because my arrows don't know what the ten ring looks like ;)

Greg, no apologies needs. We kept teasing about shooting the other persons nocks off. And, it happen with no fan fare. I just wish I would have noticed it at the moment so I could have given someone a pat on the back, then a night full of grief about. I missed out on all the fun. haha
