Title: Marshall Primitive Archery Rendezvous
Post by: Buckeye Guy on January 14, 2016, 08:59:27 pm
As I am short on time to be on here I figured I best get something started and will add as I can
The Marshall Primitive Archery Rendezvous  is Memorial Day weekend  as usual
Held at beutifull Wilder Creek Conservation Club 19833 D Drive South Marshall  Mi. 49068
Fun time for the whole family, just remember to  leave  your modern bows home as this is a natural  materials  only event ,no fiberglass , carbon ,or aluminum allowed
See ya there

Are newbies welcome? I'd love an opportunity to meet up with some other primitive bowyers, feels like I'm on a deserted island here. Also if there's trading, I have lots of bamboo backing.

We are all newbies  at something !
swapping info and materials is what we do, besides having fun ,

Passing on the greatest addiction known to mankind
We cover just about all aspects of what is called Primitive Archery
The Marshall Primitive Archery Rendezvous has been blessed to have some of the best teachers of  Self bow building,
Flint Knapping,  Arrow  making , Atlatl building , Primitive fire starting, ect, ect, ect even had some classes on Foraging  for food last year, but most of all we have fun !
Young and old we love them all, just be prepared for a Marshall  greating

See ya there!

If it's anything like my arrival (1st timer) last year ...... Guy will
1) Find ya,
2) Introduce himself,
3) Point out the water spigot & restroom locations,
4) Describe the 3d ranges and warn ya about "the swamp",
4) Show ya the primo camping sites and where PA crew usually camps,
5) Describe what goes on under the BIG pavilion, and . .. . . . . .
6) Warn ya about Blackhawk!    >:D

No worry bout cheese hats, I haven't watched a Packer game in years. Cheese curds on the other hand, well, I live less than a mile away from a cheese factory so that shouldn't be hard to manage :) I'll have to get better with the wooden arrows by then, I hate to admit it but my bow likes my leftover aluminum arrows better for some reason.

Amen to that Greg. She is excited to go. It makes quite a difference now that she has met Drew, you and Pauly. It helps to have that "connection" when you arrive somewhere new.

With you southern folk, Bubs McBubbly from No-Cal and Scott making the trip, its sure to be the best yet! At least in my time attending.

Hey folks any more progress on minibows ?
Funny you mention that.....I was just shooting it in the back yard and was wondering how far it would shoot?.....Well I pulled here back to about 11" and let it fly, lost track of it about half way across the churches parking lot in the back of the house.  I went and looked for it and I believe it ended up on the roof of the church about 110 yards away.  Oh well that's why I made a bunch of arrows.  :)  :).

Ill bring a few butts with me Pauly. Ill try to get a pound or two smaller so we can get a better fit in the smoker.

My mini is done. Just need to seal it and make more arrows. Looking forward to this year. Jeany is coming with me, if at least for a few days. The camper bed isn't her best friend anymore.

Thanks Matt, I'll also see you in a couple of weeks at the TN Classic, can't wait.

Chris,
I'll do my best to make it, and probably bring my elm hall bow to work on. I just started with the draw knife on it today.  It's twisted a good 90 deg, so it might take help from some experts to uncoil this bugger.

Hey Guy, I'm not sure if I'll be able to make it up, but if I do I'll try to put something in the raffle.

Glad to see that Tony made it trough the winter. It will be good to see you all again, if I can make time.  I'm starting my own business, so it may be tough to break away, plus the boss is a bit of a prick  :P.

Cheers,
Ed

Shouldn't we figure out what the objective is before we hand out mini-bow prizes? Is it simply accuracy? I know there isn't enough "length" around there to shoot for distance, safely. Im so far behind right now I don't even know if I will have arrows ready. The bow is done though!

How about something like a milk jug shoot at 20 yrds or a soda can, and they were talking about shooting across the pond maybe closest to the target or something i atill need to make some arrows too

No excuses, just need directives for somebody to win. I can tell you for FREE I wont hit a barn door at 20 with these little dudes :) The bear across the pond is a good idea bubbly. Its around 80 yards, so I'm sure all the bows can shoot that far, or better be able to!

Ok guy's,  I just got the approval for my time off. Onebowwonder, Mrs. Onebow  and I will be Marshall bound on the 25th. I've never been up to this event and I don't believe Onebow has either. We have a couple of mini's made up that still needs a touch of work but hopefully they will be ready to fling some arrows! Looking forward to seeing you all!

Patrick, the practice targets are very atlatl friendly.  Most atlatl folks are more than willing to give you pointers.  One thing to be prepared for is that the Marshall facility doesn't do much cooking, if any.  You'll have to plan for bringing food.  Good to hear you are coming, missed you at Tennessee.

...as Patrick has alluded to already, he and I should be there sometime on Thursday.  We may not be camping out the entire time because my wife has an old friend that lives nearby she wants to visit as well while we are up there.  She may only make an appearance or two and leave me setting there in my sawdust and shavings pile.  ;D

I have a couple campfire kettle meal recipes I can make well, and should have plenty to share with some.  I assume, but would like to confirm, that camp fires, (properly contained), are permitted. ???

My mini shoots fine, but it is in the raw, I need to split some elm for Drew and I, need to make some full sized arrows, I have 3..........and I have another bow that needs sanding and sealing. This spring ran away from me and this last week didn't help!

jug shoot
over pond @ bear w/ mini
over pond @ bear w/ regular bow
shoot course w/ mini
shoot course w/ regular bow
fashion handle/tips on lam bow
make serious progress on trade bow
make some arrows
drink beer and listen to lie-tellin'
keep the grandgirl entertained
(not necessarily in order of priority)
and likely forgot some stuff

*** Hey fellas. A quick note on Saturday nights potluck. Pauly and I have smoked pork butts the last few years. We have one smoker and tried to over-stuff it last year so we could accommodate everybody. It worked, but not like it should have and we were sweating bullets hoping to get it all done on time. This year we will only smoke two butts as it will be better for the smoker and makes much better meat. If you have meat items you want to share, it would be very appreciated. We will have a charcoal grill available to cook dogs, brats or whatever else you would like to donate. There are always plenty of side dishes and desserts, we just need a bit more meat to round off our pork butts. Its a great meal that you wont regret donating towards. Great eating and company!

I'll see if I can get something on my smoker at home before I come up there. If I can I can just wrap it in foil and throw it in a hot grill for a while. I'll let you know. I won't have room for my smoker on the trip or I would just offer it to be used.

Nothing elaborate Patrick, just some good dogs, venison steaks, brats or anything like that is just fine and dandy man. We will have grill space for it. Id love to smoke four shoulders again, but the smoker just isn't made for that much mass and it takes too long to cook through and make a nice bark on the outside. Who doesn't like shoulder bark? Just noticed this post. Our plan right now is wife, 5yr. Old grandson and I hope fully coming Thursday afternoon. I think I'm going to be able to borrow my brothers camper if there's room for one more it's not a huge camper, but lot better than tent with the grandson. I'll have more room to bring stuff ( and maybe even take stuff home)
A warning ahead of time my wife has a kinda strange laugh and loves to use it. If you hear what sound like a flock of crows with a Canadian Goose  mixed in that'll be her. I never have to wonder where she is or if she's having a good time at a party. I'll be the short gray haired chubby one.
One ? about campfires are we allowed to bring firewood? Are the ash trees all dead there too? I've got lots of ash, some pine.

I bring wood with me. Usually scrap osage, yew, maple, basswood and some elm. You aren't going to spread any ash borers now, we are a decade past that making a difference anymore and that's why you don't see the signs along 75 anymore discouraging hauling firewood. Looking forward to meeting you and your family.

Thanks Pearly I thought that would be case with firewood but wanted to make sure we can bring some food stuff too but without hook up it will be stuff that fits in coolers. Can't wait man I got so much to get ready yet trying to get a little every day.

Yup, great facilities. The Wilder Creek club is one of the nicest I've been to. Very, very well kept and superb camping areas. The pavilion alone is awesome. The folks working the event, like Guy and Mike are top shelf first class folks.

Glad you are coming bjrogg
we should have fire wood if you want to leave it out for room for other things
as long as you don't need a electric hookup and all that other junk we have plenty of room for your camper and a super bathroom with a shower , but there are times ,although not usally, when you may have to stand in line for a shower.

better start packing, it's almost time

Our plans are in- We'll be showing up Friday, and leaving sometime Sunday afternoon. I'm bringing the wife and our tiny man Henry. Wife wussed out on camping with a baby, so we'll be staying in town and driving out to the grounds each morning. I plan on staying there all day, but she might be going back and forth.

Anyone like Polish food? I can try to bring some of Bay City's finest for the potluck on Saturday. Probably some sausages and that sort of thing- perogies probably don't grill well. I missed out on the potluck last year, but the smell of that pork of Pauly and Pearly's was really making my mouth water. No way I'm missing it this year.

Kinda hoping so. If I don't get another done for the 5 yr old in time might have to borrow the 3 year olds

I have the one Mike gave me, but it needs a new band. I have plenty of that to replace it. I also made one that is crazy powerful. I did a lot of tinkering with band width and length. Eventually I got her to shoot a 3/8" bearing through several softener salt bags. Im certain it would kill any small game I come across with ease. I yank that sucker right back to 29"! WOW

Hey guys, couple of questions.

What kind of tillering setups will be available?
I have a portable one that goes in the drop hitch on my truck that I can bring along.

What kind of cauls will be there?
I might be able to throw in my R/D caul.

Would anyone be interested in some card scrapers?
If so,  I'll cut out a bunch at work and bring a whole stack.

I have a tree I will bring, there are always plenty strapped to the poles. You will need a vice or press to clamp down to the tables, unless you work off your knee. A few guys enjoy working that way. I'm a vice guy all the way. I usually bring a caul or two as well. One is for a typical reflexed straight bow and the other can flip tips if anybody wants to. I will also have a heat gun(s). Somebody will have whatever you don't!

Lotsa shaping to do, but this roughed out chunk of wood is my interpretation of ergonomic slingshot. This one is from a piece of spalted oak from Patrick. Hopefully, will get several of these done for trade blanket.

See ya in 5 days!

The pavilion is by the lake and castle.  The field with the old house is where we set up camp.

Hey guys, I cut some more of that honeysuckle today.  Who all wants to try it out?  I need to know how much to bring.  It's not the straightest or longest bow wood.  Some pieces would work great for a take down or splice.  I've never used it but I've heard it makes a good bow.

I'd maybe try some Osage. I'd like to get some different bow wood especially some Osage preferably seasoned. I cut some nice HHB yesterday carried it up a 29' cliff that pertty well did me in. I didn't get it split yet but hoping to split and bring some for trade. I got some Red Oiser for Guy also.

ya Google  takes you to the old drive that has grown over ya have to go on south a tad (1/4 mile ?) and you will see the new  sign and drive
that old drive if you could get thru ,but you can't ,would take you strait to Clints camp
see ya there real soon
If you are south of Marshall  and east of the Eaton proving grounds you are in the right area

We should be pulling in Thursday's afternoon. I don't know how auction works, I won't have a lot of $$ to spend but I'm hopeing  to get some HHB split and donate a couple. My opinion on generators? If its not medical related, its generally not welcomed by many. None are really quiet when your sleeping in a tent 20 feet away. But, if its for medical reasons, I'm all for it!

I don't think the rain is going to be as bad as everyone is thinking.  It looks like passing showers and not all day soaking rain.  The percentage is high but the expected rainfall totals are low. The forecast looked similar for the Classic and all we got was a few evening showers.  Everyone was in the bow shop anyway so it didn't matter.  I hope its the same way for Marshall.

Ozarkers are not made of Sugar either, ...so I guess we'll be OK with a bit of North Country rain.  We ended MOJAM with a MASSIVE T-Storm last year and didn't lose anybody, ...though a few tent poles were listed as casualties.  My tent shook so violently and that it warped all the walls into odd contortions!  I felt like I was in one of those house of mirrors things you see at county fairs.

Also, I found a guy up in Battle Creek, MI that does Tree Work and sells Firewood.  If we get there and don't have enough, I'll give him a call.  Apparently he can deliver a Pickup load of seasoned firewood for a reasonable cost...

Well guy's this all sounds great! I'm done with work for the week. I got one appointment at 9 in the morning then it's time to get the truck loaded,  pick up Eric and we will be on the way. Since it's raining tonight I might get the last bit of fletchings on my mini arrows.

I have been wanting to donate something to the auction table. So today I wrapped up this cactus quiver today. Hemp cordage, elk antler buttons and sealed with a beeswax and talo mix. It will hold a half dozen of arrows with field points easily, probably more. I left the hemp long incase someone wants to add something else.  Hope someone likes it!

What a great weekend!  Able to see a lot of old faces and meet a bunch of new faces. Hung out with the guys for a few days and had my wife and daughters come up for a few days to experience the community for the first time. The days with my family I spent most of my time chasing frogs for all the kids and trying to keep my daughter Nina from torturing them. Thank you all for treating my family like yours. Guys found out it was my birthday on Saturday and all pitched in to buy me a beautiful Damascus knife and a half a dozen arrows, I don't know of a more thoughtful group. I also received a Pappy bow, that's right I own a Pappy bow from the bow trade delivered via Clint. Thank you sir it shoots like a dream. I was also gifted a slingshot from knoll, a custom-made shirt from Dan  with a little Marshall saying on it, Staves  from Eric and Cody, had a great trade with Tony for some fire starting material, a yew stave from pearly and I'm sure I'm leaving someone out sorry about that. Here's a bunch of pictures in no particular order

Words can't describe how great the past few days were at the Marshall shoot.  The weather turned out beautiful despite the forecast.  This year there were more wives and kids running around.  It was nice to see so many families there.  The kids were well behaved and entertaining.  Nathan must have put 500 arrows into that target at camp, Riley learned arrow making and made friends with a boy from the other camp, Scott's girls were in the creek all day long, and Paul's girls were busy chasing frogs and butterfly's.

I got to deliver a trade bow to Paul and a gift bow to Pearly.  Both were surprised and very happy with their new bows.  I was able to hand over my trade bows to Scott.  I hope they work out for you.  Bubby gave me a very cool knife.  Pearly gave me a ground hog hide and a new osage bow.  I picked up another Pearly bow from the trade blanket.  That seemed to go over pretty well.  I hope we can do it again next year.

The mini bows were fun to shoot.  They proved very capable of covering the 90 yards across the pond to the bear target.  The war bow guys found a few mini arrows that we missed.  I would have liked to hear the comments when they were picking up tiny 12" arrows in the same area as their heavy war bow arrows.

I'm glad the Missoura guys could make it this year.  It was nice talking and working with you guys.  I finally got to meet Bubby.  He fit right in with all of us.

I was able to get a few pictures of all the fun.

I am going to try segments to keep my thoughts separate.

First off. Thank you Mrs. Robertson for letting Bub come and play with us. What a super cool guy. We have all talked with bub for years, but you cant really know a man until you look him in his eyes and shake his hand. I can say I know Paul Robertson now.

The last few days have been some of the best in my life. It may be a long story, but Im typing it anyway, you can stop reading anytime you want. It all started after I left one super shiddy day at work on Wednesday, lots of scrambling around to allow me to leave for 3 days. Some of you read or heard about my fortunate/lucky muzzle loader hunt last winter. After dad and I cut him up I handed the hide/head over to dad so he could bring it to a friend to do a  Euro mount. Over the last 8 months I had bothered the dad every few months asking where my mount was, losing patience each time. Turns out my buddy that asked me to hunt with him on his farm that night snatched it from dads house and brought it to his taxidermist for a full shoulder mount as a gift to me. When I swung the bedroom door open Wednesday after work, he was laying on my pillow :). That changed my crappy work mood, and fast.

Wifey and I make the trip down to Marshall. I barely get the camper level and Clinton Ha-Ha Anders hands me a bow sock. Inside is one INCREDIBLE gift. Pat's "Little Thumper"! Can you believe that? If you have been on here for a spot you remember him building it. Pat, Im honored to own it and will treasure it. Thank you my friend.

Its the giving at Marshall that never ends. Be it goods, gifts or words. It never ends. So much bow and arrow knowledge passing hands. So many gifts passing hands. Patrick might be one of the most thoughtful people walking Missourahhh, or the USA. It was a pleasure meeting you and Eric, both class acts and a joy to converse with. Funny? Oh yah! I told Pat-trick it makes Michigan to Missouri not such a far drive after all.

The live auction was good to me. I walked away with a genuine Patrick cactus quiver with a reverse twist sling, awesome work cat killer! There was a lot of very cool items getting auctioned off. I stayed for the duration and am pretty sure we raised some good coin for the club. Matt walked away with  genuine Norm Blaker atlatl dart, COOL Matt!

I was gifted a spindle and hearth from a fella I had never met. Just started talking friction fire with him and the usual, "follow me" came out of his mouth. He had nice little kits assembled in the back of his truck. I say my thank you's and walk down to talk with Scott at his booth. While looking over his turned bowls he hands me one and says, "what could you use this for?" I say maybe a change bowl or key bowl, or both! It was fairly shallow and maybe 8" round. He hands it to me and says, "Here, give this to Jean". She loves it buddy! Thank you again.

Speaking of my wife. She had an absolute great time with all the kids and her new friends. She wants to come back I guess? :) Seems every other time I walked back to the tin tent to check on her I had something in my hands. Fire kit, bowl, alcohol stoves, arrows, a bow, and the list goes on. She is excited to join me for Elm Hall, weather permitting. This was her first and wont be her last. She was totally impressed by all of you guys. Like it or not? We are VERY unique group and a very talented group of people.

Wanna hear something cool? This should tell you what we think about each other. Saturday night some jack hole across the woods starts lighting off fire works and our dogs start freaking out, debris is landing just behind our camp and that's not cool. Greg asks them to stop, they scream "Nope, sorry!" Greg takes right off towards the house through the woods and Cody and I follow to keep our buddy in good hands, like he needs help ;). Well, they light another off and Greg asks again to stop. They holler "F-U!" this time. Now they got all of us off our butts and heading that way. It was great to see. They went to far with words and a group of guys who know respect had enough. That's what I call friends. Ended up they stopped before we got there and the night settled back into fire popping and constant laughing, like it should be.

Ive never had a group of friends I feel closer to. Not even high school friends that we did some crazy stuff with. These guys are real, caring, thoughtful, giving, gracious and I wouldn't trade it for the world.

All the wives, kids and grandkids around camp made it even more special. When it boils down, that's what events like this are all about. Passing it on to the next generation to ensure it keeps going.

Im told the club received a Federal grant for improvements. Cant wait to see what Mike and the gang improve upon in the next 12 months. I know they will and I know they will do it right.  Thanks Wilder Creek Conservation Club for hosting this event.

Before anybody gets bent out of shape about Clint's Blackhawk "bow" pics. You would need to hear the full story, but you probably wont unless you where there. Trust me when I say it was a proper move by Clint. The bow and the "person" deserved it.

Thank you my friends for the arrows and the thought behind the bow. You are all very dear to me. Even you Pauly and Clint, but just sometimes and not always.

Yep, we are fortunate to have some generous folk in our community. And nowhere is that generosity more valuable than when bestowed on a young'un. And it often goes insufficiently recognized by us big'uns.

Fair warning . . . another wordy writeup follows.

Onebowonder, Eric, is prime example. Friday eve and into Saturday I watched him work with a teenager on a bow that was bit longer than the mini's, but still a very short piece of wood. Maybe it was the boy's 1st, don't know. But clearly, lotsa guidance was needed. Eric seemed to be there for each step. Imparting knowledge and showing gobs of patience. We left before the stick became a bow, so hope is that it was successful. But if not, that young feller went away with stronger respect for us older fellers. Good on ya, Eric!

Danzn Bar, Bill, is yet another example. My grandgirl watched Bill making his great arrows. And listened as he patiently explained each step. She's easily distracted, but remained seated next to him as though glued down. Late that eve she and I walked back to camp together. "PawPaw, that Bill knows ALOT of stuff!", she said. A few paces later, "PawPaw, think he'd make an arrow for me?" In my inimitable fashion I explained that he wouldn't likely make an arrow FOR her, but if she asked nice Bill might HELP her to make an arrow. Fast forward to next day. Bill's sitting at table with Rylie glued to his right elbow and they're working on an arrow. All the while Bill is explaining the what/why of what they're doing. Rylie may have done some of work on self nock. She definitely did the thread wrap to reinforce nock and at point end. She chose feather colors and Bill showed her how to tie them on and she tied 'em on herself ... doing better job than I myself ever have! Then the crowning glory ... a neon green (Rylie's fav color) tracer. Now, when she reaches into her quiver to withdraw an arrow, she always says "Gonna use the BEST one!"

It's easy to see this repeated over and over again at events such as Marshall. Time is our most precious resource. To watch the "grownup" guys/gals spend it with the kids is special.

yeah baby, what a great time we all had in Michigan. For starters  having the California Kid there was far out and  he's a pretty groovy dude to have around camp. ;D  Really glad you made the trip Bub, it sure made the event special for all of us there who had come to feel we knew you long before we were able to meet you in person. Hope you can make it back one day.

The fun we all had together at our big community camp was like a family reunion with good food, lots of smiling faces and never a dull moment. Without a doubt one of the most enjoyable and memorable weekends I've experienced anywhere. I don't think I could find a better group of people to hang with and it seemed everyone was comfortable in the company that had gathered there.

Didn't get a single picture sadly but have a lot of great images etched into my mind, good times indeed.

I didn't get too many pictures, too busy wrangling tiny Henry. I had a blast! Wife said it was a great trip. Next year I plan on camping at the site again, her and Henry may have other plans, but I'm gonna be there all weekend. Got some work done on a couple of bows, got to BS a bit, and learned a bunch about making arrows from river cane from Bill.
It was great to see everyone again, the weekend really gave me a case of that bow building bug.

Finally got everything unpacked and my brothers pickup and camper returned. My wife Susie, my grandson Charlie and myself had a fantastic time. I was a little nervous before we went about my skill level and all of my homemade equipment. I had no one I ever meet who I could even compare it to our shoot it with. I somehow missed out on the mini shoot but shot the jug and bear across the pond. I really only had 5 arrows for the jug and I tried to take my time and make them count, as I shot my last arrow I turned and said I'm out of arrows. I saw Frank ( moose the rock vender ) running up to me with his quiver full of arrows and said no you aren't. I actually made it to the next round and shoot against Gary. It was a total honor when he walked up to me shook my hand looked over my bow and complimented it and my shooting. I can't tell you enough how much I enjoyed the entire experience, everyone and I mean EVERYONE was so nice. I didn't get nearly as many things done as I planed but I was so happy that my cousin Kevin and his wife Diane came. Dave the tee- shirt guy had trouble with his airbrush and we helped him get it going which turned into an all afternoon adventure. Dave had a couple Atl Atl's and darts and let Kevin throw them till his arm would fall off. Throwing an Atl Atl has been on Kevin's bucket list forever. Kevin and Diane both said they are planing on coming next year and not only that but they really enjoyed Marshall and thought they'd return to camp there other times too. My cousins Greg also came on his motorcycle Saturday morning, he also totally enjoyed the experience and won a fire starter kit from the raffle. My bow arrow and knapping budget went from $11.62 to considerably more. I got a great pair of prairie rattlesnake skins from Scott in the afternoon and another Unbelievablly beautiful pair from the auction Saturday night. Thanks for donation Mike. Pearl gave me a pair of Osage billets and a nice chunk of leather from a couch he rescued from the side of the road for a HHB stave he wouldn't have taken but he gave it to Bill. Clint gave me a beautiful side quiver for some goose primaries and turkey secondaries I really think I got way to good of a deal. Everybody was so generous, I sure hope I get this right it all happened so fast if I remember right and I'm truly sorry if I'm wrong on the next couple. I think it was Patrick gave me a Fred Bare broad head halvted to a deer antler with a beautiful buckskin sheath. I think it was Badly bent that gave me a nice beaver hide. I brought some fresh HHB and look forward to seeing some bows posted and hopefully in person in the years to come. I got some Hickory which I know nothing about other than its suppose to be a good bow wood so I'll probably be asking some questions about in the future. My grandson Charlie wants to shoot bow so much that he has a hard time slowing down enough for me to show him how. The 1st day we tried to shoot the bow I made for his cousins d he got a bit frustrated and kind of gave up. The next morning we were walking to the pavilion when we saw this boy about his age shooting his bow. We stopped and watched his form was near perfect. I said to Charlie see how he holds the bow. We kept his watching I said see how he pulls the string to the corner of his mouth. We kept watching , I said see how he keeps his elbow up and holds the string with 3 fingers. Charlie whispered in my ear "I want to shoot my bow grandpa" the little boy Luke and his grandpa Bruce followed us to get Charlie's bow and shoot with us. This time was totally deferent and Charlie did much better. After awhile Luke asked his grandpa if he could catch frogs with Charlie and in a flash they were gone. Our last night we went to bed a little earlier but l couldn't sleep I just layed there thinking about all the fun we had and people we meet and planing things for next year. I can't wait I got a lot of stuff to get ready.

A great time at Marshall, this long weekend.  Didn't take but a few pics of the mini bows.  Was great to meet Bubby from California.  Onebowonder from Missouri.  Enjoyed conversations with Patrick who I previously met at the Classic; a real stand-up fella.  All the other buddies, BBent, OOutlaw, PDrums, BGuy, Knoll, MMaster, PSemp, JCash, Andrew, Dan, OBow, DBar, BRogg, SnStones, Stringman, CGault, NBlaker, Jeez Louise, the list goes on.  Your all a top-shelf crew.  Many kids, grandkids were seen at the shoot, and a big shout out to all the wives who seemed to really enjoy themselves.  The "Little Woman" thanks me after every bow camping weekend for including her in what she says is the best life, ever.  The camaraderie surrounding this primitive/traditional sport of ours is second to none.  I'm very privileged to be able to mingle with all you all's.

Well here it goes.
What a great time I had with all of you guys. I FINALLY got to meet almost everyone that I know here on PA.
First off I would like to say a huge thanks to Guy and all of the Wilder Creek conservation club! Ya'll are a class act for sure!
This was an awesome trip for me,  I was able to share the ride with my good friend Eric. And this is my farthest travel for a primitive event.
As usual we were one of the first to arrive and the last to leave. And several nights we were the only ones left to turn the lights out in the pavilion.
I usually don't get as much done as I would like because I'm always the first one to offer assistance to anyone who ask or just looks like they are having trouble. But that's what these events are about,  helping the newcomers. I made some great new friends and learned a few things as well. One that I won't forget is having a cup of coffee with Norm Blaker.
I checked off a couple of items on my bucket list to. A shot a sweet little horn bow and learned to throw an At Lattle.
I made a few trades and received a few gifts. Nothing super fancy but I'm always greatful.
I did however aquire 6 Norm Blaker At Lattle darts.
TThe best part was there were no flying objects on the highway in either direction. Unless you count the cooler that somehow came out from under our rachet strap and scooted down the highway just east of Indianapolis.

Thank you all for all the kind words,  I felt at home at Marshall. You guys come and see us at mojam now ya'hear.
I'll post some pictures later.

Patrick

If I get a chance to go to mojam I want to camp next to you that way nobody will hear a generator with all the background noise. Lol just kidding buddy I slept like a baby excerpt for that last night when I just laid there thinking about the good times we had and planning for next year
