As I am short on time to be on here I figured I best get something started and will add as I can
The Marshall Primitive Archery Rendezvous is Memorial Day weekend as usual
Held at beutifull Wilder Creek Conservation Club 19833 D Drive South Marshall Mi. 49068
Fun time for the whole family, just remember to leave your modern bows home as this is a natural materials only event ,no fiberglass , carbon ,or aluminum allowed
See ya there
Guy

Wouldnt miss it for the world!!! :) unfortunately tho my wife n kiddos attendence is in limbo this year due to my wifes new job. :-\
-
I am picking bubby up from o'hare airport and heading straight there. Should be there by 4 to 5pm Wednesday.
-
Don't dump him off in Lake Michigan gangster Pauly! Besides, what do we want with a bunch of weird-o lefty bows?
-
Wouldn't miss it! Hope you're up to it, Bob!
-
Hope you make Bob, we are in need of seeing hou again !
Hawkster you know if you show up without the family ..............
well lets just say it's been nice knowing you buddy
Bubby welcome aboard
The Marshall crew is all one family , but we know no stragers, all are welcome
After all we let Pearly come
LOL
See ya all there!
some of sooner
-
It's on my calendar.
-
It's on my calendar.
Glad your finally making it that way scott...you'll love it!!! :)
-
I was never worried about how much I would enjoy it. The test will be if my wife and daughter enjoy themselves.
-
I'm sure they will like it. It's very wife and kid friendly.
-
Hope you enjoy it Scott cause the wife is going to be draging you back every year from now on !
Just ask Mrs Blackhawk .
She almost had to come without him last year LOL
-
Are newbies welcome? I'd love an opportunity to meet up with some other primitive bowyers, feels like I'm on a deserted island here. Also if there's trading, I have lots of bamboo backing.
-
We are all newbies at something !
swapping info and materials is what we do, besides having fun ,
Passing on the greatest addiction known to mankind
We cover just about all aspects of what is called Primitive Archery
The Marshall Primitive Archery Rendezvous has been blessed to have some of the best teachers of Self bow building,
Flint Knapping, Arrow making , Atlatl building , Primitive fire starting, ect, ect, ect even had some classes on Foraging for food last year, but most of all we have fun !
Young and old we love them all, just be prepared for a Marshall greating
See ya there!
-
Then I'll be there :)
-
Introduce yourself so we know who you are. There will probably be a group of us working on bows under the shelter most of the weekend.
-
Bring some cheese curds Aaron, mmmm! But, NO CHEESE HATS!!!!!! Nope, not allowed sir.
-
If it's anything like my arrival (1st timer) last year ...... Guy will
1) Find ya,
2) Introduce himself,
3) Point out the water spigot & restroom locations,
4) Describe the 3d ranges and warn ya about "the swamp",
4) Show ya the primo camping sites and where PA crew usually camps,
5) Describe what goes on under the BIG pavilion, and . .. . . . . .
6) Warn ya about Blackhawk! >:D
-
Watch #6 especially close. He will steal your fire wood and make a bow.
-

And then "try" to out shoot ya on the course with it.... >:D :) ;)
Just don't get in the jug shooting contest with him...... ;)

I'm looking forward to getting back there, always a blast at Marshall.
Scott your wife should enjoy it, mine won't miss it after the last two years attending.
Bob, I hope to see you there again buddy.
Aaron, come on over man you'll fit right in I'm sure.
Bub, a whole bunch of us are looking forward to having you there live and in person.
And to all others that I've had the pleasure to meet there in the past, can't wait to catch up with all of you again this year.
-
Good to near from you Greg!
Give Sharon a hug and tell her we will be watching for you folks !
-
Bring some cheese curds Aaron, mmmm! But, NO CHEESE HATS!!!!!! Nope, not allowed sir.
No worry bout cheese hats, I haven't watched a Packer game in years. Cheese curds on the other hand, well, I live less than a mile away from a cheese factory so that shouldn't be hard to manage :) I'll have to get better with the wooden arrows by then, I hate to admit it but my bow likes my leftover aluminum arrows better for some reason.
-
[I'll have to get better with the wooden arrows by then, I hate to admit it but my bow likes my leftover aluminum arrows better for some reason.
We might find you a couple of cane arrows that shoots good for you, but they may have pink primitive aluma nocks on them...... :)

Flyer is out
Share it around!
See ya there!!
-
Yea it worked
I have the hardest time getting pics on here
-
Looks like I have Jean weany going with me. Better yet? Looks like Greg and Pauly talked Jeany weany into going :) such charmers.
-
Expect Greg's better half will be there. So, is Pauly bringin' his also?
After returning home last year, I described you characters to Carol. And just asked her if she'd like to travel up there this year. She just rolled her eyes . . . . . . :o
-
That's awesome Chris!!!
-
It's a toss up they may come up Saturday and spend the night
-
Very cool Pearly and Pauly. It's a good gathering for the wives. Maybe one day mine will venture out.
-
Yeah I would like for them to come but I also really enjoy my daddy time away. My kids are almost old enough where we wouldn't have to constantly watch them
-
I'll bet it wouldn't be tough to twist Miss Heather's arm into a "Ladies Only" romp through the course.
-
Only 96 days, I'm not excited or nothing ::)
-
Earliest I'll be able to get there is first thing Saturday morning and that's if we drive all Friday night, ...so my countdown still reads: 98 days 4 hours 10 minutes 26 seconds

. . . but who's countin'?
-
. . . but who's countin'?
THIS GUY!!!!!😜
-
Let Jean know I'm glad she's gonna come along Chris. Marshall's such a laid back and relaxed gathering that it has something for everyone, whether its archery interest, gathering mushrooms, or just visiting around the camps and getting to know people its all enjoyable.
-
Amen to that Greg. She is excited to go. It makes quite a difference now that she has met Drew, you and Pauly. It helps to have that "connection" when you arrive somewhere new.
With you southern folk, Bubs McBubbly from No-Cal and Scott making the trip, its sure to be the best yet! At least in my time attending.
-
You folks let me know when I need to be there and I will most likely make it happen, usally there by Wednesday
I am glad you folks enjoy our gathering and yes it is a good place for the whole family !
there is always a hug there waiting for you, first time visitor or an old friend, young and old
When you come to Marshall you become part of a family like no other
see ya there !
keep the count down rolling
-
Chef Pauly are you cooking again for us Saturday night?
If you want some cash for meat let me know!
Hey folks any more progress on minibows ?
-
Hey folks any more progress on minibows ?
Funny you mention that.....I was just shooting it in the back yard and was wondering how far it would shoot?.....Well I pulled here back to about 11" and let it fly, lost track of it about half way across the churches parking lot in the back of the house. I went and looked for it and I believe it ended up on the roof of the church about 110 yards away. Oh well that's why I made a bunch of arrows. :) :).
DBar
-
Dbar how long did you end up building your arrows?

Not a problem guy. I'm always game to smoke some pig. As far as the minie bow I just put some sinew on mine
-
Dbar how long did you end up building your arrows?
11 3/4" to 12" long Bubby........I used bamboo skewers.
And I walked it off this morning .... it wasn't 110 yds it was more like 85 yds away....It still surprised me!

-
I'm going to be there, working on getting the wife and Baby Henry there, at least for a day. I need to get shooting and hacking at some bows.
-
Ill bring a few butts with me Pauly. Ill try to get a pound or two smaller so we can get a better fit in the smoker.
My mini is done. Just need to seal it and make more arrows. Looking forward to this year. Jeany is coming with me, if at least for a few days. The camper bed isn't her best friend anymore.
-
I'm going to try to get up there Friday after work and hang out for the weekend.

I'm going to try to get up there Friday after work and hang out for the weekend.
That would be great if you could make it Ozzy. You will enjoy it. Pick up Tracy on the way north. It would be a good shoot to bring the family if you wanted to.
-
I might make a day trip just to see the mini bow shoot alone after seeing prototypes at Moontree this past weekend. Wicked little things!
Tracy
-
Hope you can make the trip Tracy, its a great gathering there. You gonna be at the Classic again this year?
-
In just about two months time from now I'll be picking some guy up at O'Hare flying in from California that I have never met in person before. I sure hope my car is big enough for two Paul's at one time >:D
That's right guys Bubby's coming to town! For all you guys on the fence about coming this may be your one and only chance to meet this guy. Rain or shine this is going to be a good one
-
This is looking like a good year to be at the Marshall shoot.
-
Heck pauly if we both don't fit just strap me to the roof😜
Man i can't wait to get there but i have a ton of stuff to get ready
-
Hoping to get a new feller to show up ... for at least a day.
-
Looking forward to meeting the bubbly Bub! Oh, yeah, will be good to see rest of ya again too. ::)
-
I'm getting more excited by this each day!

Im looking forward to whipping your No-Cal butt all around the 3D course. Then rubbing your nose in it :)
-
Talk/text is cheap. >:D
-
If I cant? I know a crack shot from Mizzura that can :)
-
Might not be that hard whippin' my butt on the course, I'll be having to much fun to concentrate
Note to self, START SHOOTING
-
I'm going to smoke all you guys on the range. And I might out shoot you guys to ;D

HaHa ...We may have to stop a few more times this year...pulling RRII. So you will be able to relieve yourself.... :)

There is an improvement. But I'll be eating good that weekend so look out >:D
-
Ok, fellas .... am giving ya ample notice now. Will likely be bringin' floor tillered "wanna-be a bow" with me and gonna be in need of lotsa "here's how ya do it" conflicting advice!
;)
-
Should be plenty of that around Mike
-
Hey Guys, I've been absent for a while, working on starting a business so not much spare time lately. I will try to plan a business trip to Michigan that falls before or after the Marshall event. I didn't make it to Marshall last year, so I will try to make it happen!!
Ed
-
Good hearing from you Ed. Hope all goes well and we are able to see you this year!
-
Piece of cake Mike, bring it along. Clint and I are going to tackle a yew bow for him and I plan to get a good share of my Elm Hall bow done in between time.
Ed, hope you can make it up man.
-
Thanks Matt, I'll also see you in a couple of weeks at the TN Classic, can't wait.
Chris,
I'll do my best to make it, and probably bring my elm hall bow to work on. I just started with the draw knife on it today. It's twisted a good 90 deg, so it might take help from some experts to uncoil this bugger.
Ed
-
I plan on bringing a few HHB staves that need to get worked on and just start and see where I end up.
-
five weeks and counting
-
Hopefully I can build a bow I'm half-way happy with to actually do some shooting with before then. And of course I'll bring something to work on, too. Haven't done anything since last fall.... :X
-
4 weeks!!!!
-
Just back from the Classic now time to get rocking on our event !
I would like to have some prizes for the minibow challenge anybody have a idea or donation for prizes ?
like maybe a full size stave so we can make a real bow >:D
Dont forget some about our auction and meal on Saturday night
-
Guy i will come up with something for a prize
-

I wondered what happened to you, Tony. Good to hear your coming down to Marshall.
-
Thanks Bubby, Clint has some billets he is willing to give so we have at least 2 prizes !
Thunderbird Atlatl will be running ISACS on Saturday @1pm and Sunday @ 10am for further info on Atlatl contests contact Bob or Cheryll at contact@thunderbirdatlatl. com. or or 607-659-3854
-
Guy, I'll bring something for a prize also.
-
Hey Guy, I'm not sure if I'll be able to make it up, but if I do I'll try to put something in the raffle.
Glad to see that Tony made it trough the winter. It will be good to see you all again, if I can make time. I'm starting my own business, so it may be tough to break away, plus the boss is a bit of a prick :P.
Cheers,
Ed
-
Shouldn't we figure out what the objective is before we hand out mini-bow prizes? Is it simply accuracy? I know there isn't enough "length" around there to shoot for distance, safely. Im so far behind right now I don't even know if I will have arrows ready. The bow is done though!
-
Marshall's not even here and Pearly boy is already coming up with excuses.... typical
-
How about something like a milk jug shoot at 20 yrds or a soda can, and they were talking about shooting across the pond maybe closest to the target or something i atill need to make some arrows too
-
No excuses, just need directives for somebody to win. I can tell you for FREE I wont hit a barn door at 20 with these little dudes :) The bear across the pond is a good idea bubbly. Its around 80 yards, so I'm sure all the bows can shoot that far, or better be able to!
-
It was 'Hawks idea, right. We need to pressure him for the prize categories. Hint, hint, hint >:D
-
Ok guy's, I just got the approval for my time off. Onebowwonder, Mrs. Onebow and I will be Marshall bound on the 25th. I've never been up to this event and I don't believe Onebow has either. We have a couple of mini's made up that still needs a touch of work but hopefully they will be ready to fling some arrows! Looking forward to seeing you all!
Patrick
-
Great news, Pat!
-

Good luck getting ahold of "Mr. M.I.A"

Thanks buddy, I can't wait!
Patrick
-
I was figuring if they survive the coarse the bear would sort out the rest.
but you folks chime inwith what your thinking.
wondering if we should also do a best of show voted on by all that built a mini for Marshall
keep talking folks we only have 3 weeks to short it all out.
-
Ok folks here we go
I will not be fixing Chili for Thursday evening so you early birds are on your own sorry .
I plan to arrive Wednesday by noon so come on out and join the early fun
we will have our coarse open the entire time till Monday
The bear across the pond will be Friday night and Saturday
jug shoot Saturday starting with the kids first
Atlatl saturday and Sunday
Saturday night we have a carry in meal and auction to raise funds for our event
Get with me if you have any questions
See ya in 3 weeks
-
Guy, with me coming for the first time, is there anything I need to be prepared for? And will there be someone there that would let a greenhorn throw an atlatal some?
Patrick
-
Patrick, the practice targets are very atlatl friendly. Most atlatl folks are more than willing to give you pointers. One thing to be prepared for is that the Marshall facility doesn't do much cooking, if any. You'll have to plan for bringing food. Good to hear you are coming, missed you at Tennessee.
-
3 weeks 😂
-
Thanks Matt, I missed being in Tennessee myself.
I appreciate your info, maybe I'll have to figure something out to cook! A buddy is going to be bringing me a bunch of wild bore and ram meat in a week or so. I might just have to throw some on the fire. But I'll have to see if I can take it with me first.
Patrick
-
3 weeks 😂
I can't wait to meet some of you all I haven't put faces to screen names!
Patrick
-
Glad your coming up, Patrick. I think you will thoroughly enjoy the quiet, laid-back environment. I know I do.
-
My girls (4 and a 6 year old) are coming up Saturday morning and spending the night. I will apologize now they are not quiet ever!!!!

Not sure if I will be there Thursday or Friday, hoping for Thursday. Looking forward to seeing everyone.

Thanks Pearl, I'm ready for some peace and quiet time. Looking forward to meeting you and several other the other pa guy's.
Patrick
-
Glad your gonna make it Patrick the list of guys to meet just keeps getting longer😀
-
That is true bubby!
Patrick
-
...as Patrick has alluded to already, he and I should be there sometime on Thursday. We may not be camping out the entire time because my wife has an old friend that lives nearby she wants to visit as well while we are up there. She may only make an appearance or two and leave me setting there in my sawdust and shavings pile. ;D
I have a couple campfire kettle meal recipes I can make well, and should have plenty to share with some. I assume, but would like to confirm, that camp fires, (properly contained), are permitted. ???
OneBow
-
Fires have always been allowed since I've been going to Marshall. I would assume the same this year or unless the next 3 weeks we go in to an absolute brutal drought
-
Build a fire cook all you want !
Or just walk around and test everyone else's food and enjoy their fire either way you will have fun ,!!
try to have a dish to pass Saturday night if you can but we will still feed you if not
bring lots of money for the auction LOL good luck spending it on anything else cause we would rather trade then sell
be prepared to go home we ith more than you came with cause thats the way we roll
See y'all there
-
Onebow is gonna cook! Yum/yum.
Eric ... friend is Laura's. We are your friends. That may indicate where ya need to spend your time. >:D
-
Glad you two are coming Eric & Patrick. I remember meeting you both in TN but really didn't get a chance to hang out much and get to know ya well. Marshall is a smaller event and good for getting to know all your neighbors, looking forward seeing you both.
-
Thanks guy's, I might just have to add to Erics cooking. I make a mean dump cake. Any of you that ate the pineapple upside-down cake at the classic last year got just a taste. I'm working on a new dish for ya'll!
Patrick
-
Appears that my coolers will have room for additional libations.
-
Eric and Patrick be good to met you guys in person.......
If you can cook it is even more appreciated ....:)
DBar
-
Unless things change, I'll have a tagalong this year.
-
I'm glad you will have the libations this time Mike. May not have room to bring any but I'll have room to consume! >:D
I've managed to meet several of the guys here on pa, I've made some great friends as well. But most of the guys going to this gathering I haven't had the chance to meet. Should be a great time.
II hope all you Yanks can handle having a couple of Southern boys in camp! >:D

I picked up a belt/disc sander today at an estate sale. I will be bringing it to Marshall for everyone to use if they want. It will also be up for trade at the end of the week if anyone is interested.
-
I wondered what happened to you, Tony. Good to hear your coming down to Marshall.
Oh, just life. I'm still waiting on the for-sure OK on getting my Saturday covered at work. As long as I'm covered, I'm there. And if my car stays together.
-

Didn't wanna deal with mine again this year, huh? :o
-
That's not it. I got a deal on this one that I couldn't pass up.
-
Ive been piled up in bed for about 5 days. Im way behind schedule around home/yard and for the shoot. I need to get my butt in gear and start prepping. My mini shoots fine, but it is in the raw, I need to split some elm for Drew and I, need to make some full sized arrows, I have 3..........and I have another bow that needs sanding and sealing. This spring ran away from me and this last week didn't help!
No excuses, Pauly. I will be ready.
-
Hope you back to 100 Pearl. May give that sander a workout Clint.
-
Get better there Drums ! Yours a chest cold ? I've been down all most 2 weeks with nasty crap in My Lungs - forgot to get My Pneumonia shot this Spring :'(.
-
No chest cold Bobert. My best un-educated guess is I had a Norovirus of sorts.
-
No excuses, Pauly. I will be ready.
Orrrrr we could go fishing! >:D 8) ;D
-
Okay Drums, Get 'em up Scout! Outta the rack and back in the saddle!
-
Hope you get to feeling better Pearl.
Patrick
-
Dang! Time scurries away in a BIG hurry sometimes. Patrick and I got finish tiller work and pretty up yet to do on our mini's. Which ain't gonna leave us no time at all for practice shooting these little boogers. Y'all are just going to have to spot us a few handicap points on the course up there out of pity! >:D >:D >:D ;)

Yeah, right, that's gonna happen . . . . . . . .
-
I'm finishing up a good amount of ammunition for my mini bow. I should be posting some pictures of my gear soon.
I can bring a bunch of solid bamboo shaft material if anyone needs some. Half are 1/4" and the other half is slightly smaller.
-
Might need them Clint. I'm going to work on our ammo this week. It's supposed to rain pretty much every day. So I'll have plenty of time to sit inside!
Now Mike, we would spot you some kind of handicap. :P
Patrick
-
come now Patrick, no quarter asked, none taken😈
16 days!!!!!
-
I'm just realizing that there is gonna be more to do at Marshall than there's gonna be avail time!
Let's see . . . . .
jug shoot
over pond @ bear w/ mini
over pond @ bear w/ regular bow
shoot course w/ mini
shoot course w/ regular bow
fashion handle/tips on lam bow
make serious progress on trade bow
make some arrows
drink beer and listen to lie-tellin'
keep the grandgirl entertained
(not necessarily in order of priority)
and likely forgot some stuff
SHEEEEZ! But what a problem to have!! ;)
-
No bubby, just some good ol razing on my buddy Mike!
Well I can't wait to have all of that to do Mike. Probably going to do pretty much what you mentioned except for the granddaughter part. I'll leave that to the elderly! >:D
Patrick
-
No bubby, just some good ol razing
Yeah i was just doing the same I'm a bit of a smart a$$
-
I hear ya, me to!
Don't tell anyone, but Mike is a heck of a guy. But for some reason he ends up catching the brunt of the razing.

*** Hey fellas. A quick note on Saturday nights potluck. Pauly and I have smoked pork butts the last few years. We have one smoker and tried to over-stuff it last year so we could accommodate everybody. It worked, but not like it should have and we were sweating bullets hoping to get it all done on time. This year we will only smoke two butts as it will be better for the smoker and makes much better meat. If you have meat items you want to share, it would be very appreciated. We will have a charcoal grill available to cook dogs, brats or whatever else you would like to donate. There are always plenty of side dishes and desserts, we just need a bit more meat to round off our pork butts. Its a great meal that you wont regret donating towards. Great eating and company!
-
I'll see if I can get something on my smoker at home before I come up there. If I can I can just wrap it in foil and throw it in a hot grill for a while. I'll let you know. I won't have room for my smoker on the trip or I would just offer it to be used.
Patrick

Nothing elaborate Patrick, just some good dogs, venison steaks, brats or anything like that is just fine and dandy man. We will have grill space for it. Id love to smoke four shoulders again, but the smoker just isn't made for that much mass and it takes too long to cook through and make a nice bark on the outside. Who doesn't like shoulder bark? Yummmmmmmy!
-
Pauly will have you ruined by the time you leave the O Hare and get to Marshall!
😜😜😜😜

Ok, might pick up something once we get to Marshall. Some good ol brats sound pretty good!

Pearly you and Pauly just do what you enjoy don't stress yourselfs it all works out in the end
besides I am the only one that is supposed to stress over this event , the rest of you are just having fun !
2 weeks and we will there
-
No reason for any one to stress Guy 8)
-
If I can get a ride in to town Saturday I can get some burgers or something else
-
Im doing it for, Guy. You don't need to stress either my friend. I swear you lose 10# that weekend running up and down the driveway being a perfect co-host!
-
If I can get a ride in to town Saturday I can get some burgers or something else
We can go if you want Clint. You get a few burgers and I'll get some brats.
Patrick
-
Sounds good Patrick. I ordered a new non stick grill basket today. It should be here before I head north eh!
-
Cool.
Patrick
-

Patrick
On the way to the store, Clint, you'll need to function as lookout for flying sheets of plywood. >:D  >:D
-
Why is that Knoll?
-
I'll explain the whole thing to you guys when we get there Clint.
Patrick
-
<snip>

I got a small twinge of pain in my gut when you mentioned that Mike! We've got a 10 hour drive from SW MO to Marshall, MI... Several miles of that distance might be invested with swarms for flying chip board sheets!!! :-\ :-\ :-\
OneBow
-
You fellers just leave the flying chip board down south
there is nothing to stress over at Marshall to busy having fun
I do appreciate any and all help, but just make sure we are having fun while we do it
Well there is one thing that is a bit stressful
watching y'all pull out to head home
hey we ain't even there yet so let's do this thing!
-
I'll do my very best Guy, but we were headed North last time we got swarmed!
Patrick
-
I am starting to get excited about this one. I am not sure when I will get there but I am definitely going again. I have to wait until the wife gets her work schedule to find out when I can go. My mini bow has been on hold for a couple months due to projects around home. I am not sure if it will be ready. See you all in a couple weeks.
-
Cool Ryan, it will be good to catch up man.
-
12 days I'm starting to get antsy waiting😃
-
Is there a place for kids to play in water?
-
There is a small river. I bet the water will only be about 55 degrees. Can't imagine the kids would want to get in more than Knee Deep.
-
Just noticed this post. Our plan right now is wife, 5yr. Old grandson and I hope fully coming Thursday afternoon. I think I'm going to be able to borrow my brothers camper if there's room for one more it's not a huge camper, but lot better than tent with the grandson. I'll have more room to bring stuff ( and maybe even take stuff home)
A warning ahead of time my wife has a kinda strange laugh and loves to use it. If you hear what sound like a flock of crows with a Canadian Goose mixed in that'll be her. I never have to wonder where she is or if she's having a good time at a party. I'll be the short gray haired chubby one.
One ? about campfires are we allowed to bring firewood? Are the ash trees all dead there too? I've got lots of ash, some pine.
-
I bring wood with me. Usually scrap osage, yew, maple, basswood and some elm. You aren't going to spread any ash borers now, we are a decade past that making a difference anymore and that's why you don't see the signs along 75 anymore discouraging hauling firewood. Looking forward to meeting you and your family.
-
Thanks Pearly I thought that would be case with firewood but wanted to make sure we can bring some food stuff too but without hook up it will be stuff that fits in coolers. Can't wait man I got so much to get ready yet trying to get a little every day.
-
Another ? are there bathrooms and showers ?
-
They have a really nice bathroom/shower building. Glad you are going to make it.
-
Yup, great facilities. The Wilder Creek club is one of the nicest I've been to. Very, very well kept and superb camping areas. The pavilion alone is awesome. The folks working the event, like Guy and Mike are top shelf first class folks.
-
Glad you are coming bjrogg
we should have fire wood if you want to leave it out for room for other things
as long as you don't need a electric hookup and all that other junk we have plenty of room for your camper and a super bathroom with a shower , but there are times ,although not usally, when you may have to stand in line for a shower.
better start packing, it's almost time
-
Thanks guys if there's showers we will be fine without hook ups
-
Our plans are in- We'll be showing up Friday, and leaving sometime Sunday afternoon. I'm bringing the wife and our tiny man Henry. Wife wussed out on camping with a baby, so we'll be staying in town and driving out to the grounds each morning. I plan on staying there all day, but she might be going back and forth.
Anyone like Polish food? I can try to bring some of Bay City's finest for the potluck on Saturday. Probably some sausages and that sort of thing- perogies probably don't grill well. I missed out on the potluck last year, but the smell of that pork of Pauly and Pearly's was really making my mouth water. No way I'm missing it this year.
-
If you see my belly you'll know there's not much I don't like. Got your PM so far I think we will be at campgrounds
-
Glad you can spend some time with us Jackson !
not many fussy eaters there anything you bring will disappear
soonds good to me
-
Hope the 15 day weather forecast is right. At least for Huron county it looks great highs 69-71 lows 56 sunny man I can't wait but I still gotta keep getting stuff ready.
-
Weather is always good when we are at Marshall, just somtimes a bit wetter than others,we still have fun !
-
Hope it's getting it out of its system (weather), been snowing on and off here in Mid-Michigan today :o ! Bob
-
Does anyone want to have some sort of a trade blanket one day?
-
Sounds good Clint
-
Yea sounds good to me
-
Not a bad idea Clint, not sure what I'll have to trade but I might find something.
Patrick
-
I can dig up a few things to swap. Trade blankets are always fun.
-
I like the idea I've got more stuff than I thought at first. Got some HHB some red Oiser maybe someone might even be interested in arrow or points. Sounds like fun.
-
9 days 😃
-
9 days 😃
Dang it, the just reminds me how much I want to get done before we leave!
Patrick
-
I hear that Pat-trick. I'm trying to rush a finish on a new'er bow so I can test fire it all weekend and let you guys all fire some arrows. Ready or not? I will be happy and content.
-
Same here and have youngest graduating HS . My little sisters 50 th birthday wow it's hard to find enough hours in a day.
-
I shipped my bows and arrows already but I'm still clearing up the pool water and getting the camper ready for the rendezvous we go to every year but if it ain't ready in 7-8 days it will wait
-
As long as I have the essentials I don't sweat being Ready. If I don't have it someone else does and if not we're not too far from some stores. I've survived on a lot less for a lot longer. Everyone shares up there
-
Thats true Paul, I'm kinda the same way about the "I needs" but it's the "I wants" that I have trouble with!
Patrick
-
We will have enough food to last us all 4 weeks! I used to worry about it, I don't anymore. Clint goes to town twice a day for pizza, so you can always have him grab whatever you forget :)
-
Long as we don't run outta beer . . . . . .
-
Nevahhhh!
-
I enjoy trade blankets, also. If it were solely up to me, I would outlaw cash. No trade blanket items could be sold for cash, that is. Only for other "items". Just my two cents...
-

That was only one time Pearl. This year at the Classic I got sent on a beer run. First time in my life that I've bought any beer. I even got carded.
-
Must be us short guys. I got carded till I was 40 and my hair turned gray it use to bug me next thing I know I'm getting junk about joining AARP
-
I thought Marshall was one big trade blanket, and I never see any money change hands till the auction !
The vendors all think we are a bunch of poor folks that can't afford anything LOL
The Saturday night auction is what keeps us going , and I sure thank you all for donating and for buying !!
little less than 9 days now bubby

I think I'll be right at home, sounds just like mojam! Just not as hot and a lot farther away.
Patrick
-
You guys can't laugh at my shooting. I've been to busy to fling any arrows except for testing out a few bows. I'm trying to get 4 new bows finished in time to bring with me. Plus some other projects that I'm working on at night. I'm ready to relax for a few days.
-
No excuses.
-

You telling me it got worse? :o :o
-
Yah, now he only draws 21.5" instead of a solid 23".
-
He was short drawing the crap out of it at TN... Course I was hitting more rocks than foam on my practice run.
You all are gonna haveta make my wife feel at home. This is her first time coming to an event with me and I think she's a little worried. >:D
-
If your wife likes to sit in a lawn chair in the sun and read books, she will get along fine with Jeany weany. Its her first event as well.
-
It will be both my wife and my 1st time. My wife likes to visit play with kids walk and laugh. She is also a bit nervous but I think she'll fit right in and she'll have one of are grandsons 5 year old Charlie to show off and share with grandpa.
-
Maybe they will start a new wives club and leave us alone to tend to archery related things?
-
It looks like my wife and two girls are going to come up Friday instead of Saturday now. My wife's never been to these events either. But after being with me for almost a decade nothing's going to surprise her.
-
I think Julie and Jean will get along great. Jean will LOVE the girls.
-
Kinda hoping so. I made a bow for my 3 yr old grandson he hasn't shot yet but the 5 yr old was very excited about it maybe a little to excited was hard for him to slow down enough for grandpa to show him how to shot. If I don't get another done for the 5 yr old in time might have to borrow the 3 year olds
-
Going to be a lot of firsts in about 8 days
-
Yah, like the first time looking for your arrows in the skunk cabbage! :)
-
Yah, like the first time looking for your arrows in the skunk cabbage! :)
Yeah so i hear😂
-
Some shots are better left alone......just keep walking. Especially when you have 2 arrows left in your quiver.
-
"A Mans got to know his limitations" of course some times foolish pride and just plan poor shooting might creep in anyhow
-
I talked to Ozzie and he is planning on coming up Saturday morning. He might be bringing his wife and daughter.
-
I just hope you guys got yours all trained good wouldn't want mine picking up any bad habits. That's a joke in case you didn't already figure that out, but seriously could be like all your old X's getting together. I'm sure mine will be telling all kinds of stories about me, and how crazy I am about stone points, arrows, bows and always on this site.
-
I asked my wife what she wanted to make sure we bring, and the first thing she said was "My bow" so I think she's looking forward to doing some shooting. I can't believe this is getting so close. Henry is going to get to spend some nice time in the great outdoors. I just wish he was old enough to wander around a bit.
-
Sounds like my wife would fit right in, I hate to say it but sometimes I wonder if conveniencing her to go to mojam last year was such a great idea.....
She isn't coming to Marshall, couldn't get off work.
Patrick
-
Don't wish the time away J-Syn. Before you know it ol' Henry will be 5, then 10, then driving, the graduated. And you will feel like a year has past. I look at "old" pics of my boys and it feels like last year to me.
-
If he can crawl he can wonder.
-
I have a good bit of trade items. Hopefully I can make a few swaps. Ill have a ton of brown couch leather, several osage billets, wiggly elm billets and an HHB stave. Plus a few bow quivers, youth shooting gloves and an arm guard. I may come up with more before we leave out.
-
Does anyone need any blue work pants size 42 waist? I've got a stack of them I can bring if someone could use them.
-
If he can crawl he can wonder.
He's still working on that trick too. Just yesterday he started trying to grab one of the characters printed on his PJs. The dang orange one on his arm must have been giving him some trouble, because he had it in for that guy.
I'm excited by the trade blanket. I've got a few things I'll be looking for, and a few things I'll be bringing.
-
Are there charcoal grills there to use?
-
No sir. We usually bring our own. I have a mini that stays in our tin tent all season. You can also just bring a grate to cook over coals.
-
Ok thanks for the info. Getting close now
-
What day and time do we want to do the trade blanket? Sometime Saturday?
-
That would work for me
-
Works for me. Ill be there for 4 glorious days, I think my schedule is open Saturday :)
-
I know some people aren't showing up until that day. What time works for everyone? When is the dinner and auction? We could do it an hour or two before then.
-
Dinner and auction is usually around 5 ish. Depending on the shoulders in da' smoker.
-
How does Saturday at 2:00 pm sound to everyone?
-
Good here
-
Pray the weather improves. Looks nasty so far, but it can change.
-
I will have a couple elm staves and other odds and ends for the trade blanket.
Here's hoping for good weather.
-
That sounds good to me Clint, hopefully I'll have something to add to the blanket. Maybe some feathers?
Patrick
-
Feathers are always a hot commodity Pat-trick.
-
Hey Mike AKA knoll I know you're into custom slingshots I was wondering if you could bring a couple along. I would love to check them out. I grew up with a slingshot my hand but all I ever had was the Marksman from the store. Never seen a custom one in person
-
See what I can cobble together.
-
Have not shot a ss in months. Gave away the "interesting" ones. Pearl, Lebhuntfish, Onebow, & DVS have one. Maybe some others. Will try to get couple done and bring 'em along.
-
I'll definitely have some feathers with me then pea-rl.
I'll also have the slingshot that Mike made me as well.
Mike, did you ever put new bands on the one I broke at Erics house?
Patrick
-
I don't remember, Pat. Toooo long ago for this old feller. ;) ???
-
I don't remember, Pat. Toooo long ago for this old feller. ;) ???
Thats ok buddy, it's kinda contagious. I forget to put my boots on the other morning. I was headed to work with my house shoes on!
I think it was a Walnut ss with a ergonomically shaped handle.
Patrick
-
I have the one Mike gave me, but it needs a new band. I have plenty of that to replace it. I also made one that is crazy powerful. I did a lot of tinkering with band width and length. Eventually I got her to shoot a 3/8" bearing through several softener salt bags. Im certain it would kill any small game I come across with ease. I yank that sucker right back to 29"! WOW
-
Has anyone used any of the mini hill cane for arrows I sent with Clint?
-
I gave it to Guy at the Classic Pat. I know he was wanting to try it out. I'm not sure if he has yet.
-
6 days!
-
Has anyone used any of the mini hill cane for arrows I sent with Clint?
its beginning to dry enough to stay where you put it
the ones that seam to be the right spine are hard to make nocks on becuase of the small diam., but shoot good
-
Here we go Pat
-
Hey guys, couple of questions.
What kind of tillering setups will be available?
I have a portable one that goes in the drop hitch on my truck that I can bring along.
What kind of cauls will be there?
I might be able to throw in my R/D caul.
Would anyone be interested in some card scrapers?
If so, I'll cut out a bunch at work and bring a whole stack.
Patrick
-
I could use some scrapers don't have any yet. My thilering tree is atached to shop wall.
-
AM always interested in your scrapers!
That tillering tree of Pat's is cool.
-
Ok, so I'll bring some scrapers and I'll throw in my tiller setup, it doesn't take much room.
Patrick
-
We generally have a couple of tillering trees set up and a few tillering trees available
between Gary Davis ,Matt Wirwiki ,and I we generaly have everything we need but there is always room for more and we enjoy seeing how others do things and learning from them
there sure are a lot of ways to skin a cat
-
Thanks Guy, I'll bring my stuff along. I don't mind using every one else's but I like to share my stuff as well.
Last year at mojam both my caul and my tiller tree got one heck of a work out.
Patrick
-
I have a tree I will bring, there are always plenty strapped to the poles. You will need a vice or press to clamp down to the tables, unless you work off your knee. A few guys enjoy working that way. I'm a vice guy all the way. I usually bring a caul or two as well. One is for a typical reflexed straight bow and the other can flip tips if anybody wants to. I will also have a heat gun(s). Somebody will have whatever you don't!
-
Thanks Pearl, I may bring them anyways. But I won't have any clamps for the caul.
Patrick
-
I'll bring my caul and clamps.
-
Bub's bringing his caul, right?
-
You bet ;)
-
Glad to see the hill cane in use. Hopefully others will get use from them also.
-
I should have bought a stave press to have in time for Marshal- I want one, but I haven't done it yet.
-
Cody MIGHT have one he would sell you, Jason. He makes them much better and stronger than you can get anywhere else.
-
Is he going to be at Marshall?
-
Lotsa shaping to do, but this roughed out chunk of wood is my interpretation of ergonomic slingshot. This one is from a piece of spalted oak from Patrick. Hopefully, will get several of these done for trade blanket.
See ya in 5 days!
Try to ignore penciled lines.

Looking good Mike! I hope you are rasping on that blackjack outside. That stuff has a smell to it.
Patrick
-
I will also bring a tillering tree.
-
Is he going to be at Marshall?
If his flight's on time. >:D
-
Hopefully these show up in the famous skunk cabbage(http://i623.photobucket.com/albums/tt320/bubncheryl/Mobile%20Uploads/20160418_214705_HDR_zpsbqcyfpl9.jpg) (http://s623.photobucket.com/user/bubncheryl/media/Mobile%20Uploads/20160418_214705_HDR_zpsbqcyfpl9.jpg.html)

Oops. We forgot to tell you they have red leaves.
-
Oops. We forgot to tell you they have red leaves
All righty then lol
-
You've got time to repaint 'em ..... GREEN.
-
Just to let you all know those arrows are sitting at my house as we speak. I just do bub the favor now I'll repaint them before he gets here
-
Question, how long are you guy's making your fletchings? I made mine 2 inches but they seem short. Even for these little arrows.
Patrick
-
Wow!! Thanks for taking care of me guys ::)
-
I roughed out a few bows today and got a lot of stuff set out and ready to load up. I'm bringing plenty of stuff to work on this year. I might even find something for that hippie from Californy to work on.
-
Question, how long are you guy's making your fletchings? I made mine 2 inches but they seem short. Even for these little arrows.
Patrick
I made mine 2"
-
2"
-
Thanks, I guess I'll keep going on the 2 inch feathers.
Patrick
-
Yep........2" long and 5/16" max high
See you guys soon....
DBar
-
Thanks again DBar!
We might roll in early Wednesday, plans have changed some so we are probably leaving Tuesday night.
Patrick
-
earlier is often good!
-
The early bird gets the worm but the second mouse gets the cheese ;)
-
I lost one arrow already bubby an we aint even there yet !
I also experimented my bow to death
had to start a new one
hope I am still in this, running out of time
Camper is stuffed full hope the rest of this stuff fits in my truck !
se ya real soon
-
Guy if you don't get one ready you can shoot mine😉
-
I'm cleaning up the car and pulling stuff out to pack up. the forecast hasn't changed in a few days. I'm bringing plenty of stuff to work on considering a lot of time might be spent under the Pavilion. Rain or shine I'm ready
-
I've got to get my butt pack'n..................not sure what I'm going to be working on this year. Been on a archery slump since working on the bathroom and kitchen all year.
DBar
-
Guy . . . . . if it gets here in time, there's a certain mini elb that ya can shoot.
-
I can't really bring much for the trade blanket but i have a decent stash of tonkin i can offer up that i could ship
Sounds like warm clothes are what i need to pack
-
Guy if you don't get one ready you can shoot mine😉
Guy . . . . . if it gets here in time, there's a certain mini elb that ya can shoot.
ya I talked to the maker of that fine weapon
And Bubby I plan on shooting most of these minibows how else could I judge them anyway! >:D
As far as a bow of my own , been a long time since I blew one up, might as well be this one
But if I go buy my personal definition of it ain't a bow till it has been shot 100 times it may not be a bow yet when it goes
If this latest one comes out half as good as it looks like it is we may need a wench to get it to 12 inches
man are we there yet , its killing me
-
Savor the anticipation, Guy. It'll be over wayyy too soon.
-
I'm thinking sinew backed was the wrong way to go with the expected rain.
-
It's covered in snakeskin Clint should be good to go😒
-
The countdown to Wed is on!!
-
The countdown to Wed is on!!
Hope ya get lotsa sleep Tue night. Wed is gonna be a Big/Big day!
-
What is address for Marshall? I tried Wilder Creek Conservation Club Marshall , Mi and got no results. Also is it ok if 2 of my cousins come for Friday night and Saturday? One will have tent other stay in hotel.
-
Hope ya get lotsa sleep Tue night. Wed is gonna be a Big/Big day!
Yeah right , lots of sleep lol😜
-
19833 D Drive South, Marshall, MI.
The more, the merrier!
-
Thank you Knoll I'm really hoping at least my one cousin makes it he's been collecting artifacts most of his life he'll be like a kid in a candy shop. He also loves to play guitar around campfire if you guys do that. The last time we went camping together we meet a couple that sang and played banjo man that was a good time.
-
I'm just looking on my google maps and it's showing a field by a house south of what looks like a race track is that in the right area?
-
I'm just looking on my google maps and it's showing a field by a house south of what looks like a race track is that in the right area?
I just looked myself, I think that's the pavilion but not positive. I've never been there either.
Patrick
-
The pavilion is by the lake and castle. The field with the old house is where we set up camp.
Hey guys, I cut some more of that honeysuckle today. Who all wants to try it out? I need to know how much to bring. It's not the straightest or longest bow wood. Some pieces would work great for a take down or splice. I've never used it but I've heard it makes a good bow.
-
I'd maybe try some Osage. I'd like to get some different bow wood especially some Osage preferably seasoned. I cut some nice HHB yesterday carried it up a 29' cliff that pertty well did me in. I didn't get it split yet but hoping to split and bring some for trade. I got some Red Oiser for Guy also.
-
Clint you know I'll try some
I'm just looking on my google maps and it's showing a field by a house south of what looks like a race track is that in the right area?

Patrick
ya Google takes you to the old drive that has grown over ya have to go on south a tad (1/4 mile ?) and you will see the new sign and drive
that old drive if you could get thru ,but you can't ,would take you strait to Clints camp
see ya there real soon
If you are south of Marshall and east of the Eaton proving grounds you are in the right area
-
It's Pearly and Pauly's camp Guy. They let us join the fun.
-
Thanks Guy, I'll remember that when we get there.
Patrick
-
My google map had location marker sitting on roof of pavilion. See ya'll in a couple!
-
Clint, I'd try some honeysuckle as well. Never did a billet bow, figure its worth a shot.
-
Im ready to rock and/or roll. The garage floor is covered in all my "don't forgets" :) Gonna look like Sanford and son when we roll in Wednesday afternoon!
-
That's my ringtone Pearly. See you in a couple of days.
-
I wish I'd thoguht ahead and taken more time off- we won't be rolling in till Friday afternoon.
-
We will probably be there mid day or so on Wednesday. Things changed a bit on my end and we are now planning to leave Tuesday evening. But there will be some sleep involved in this trip.
Hey Mike, we might need help setting up the Taj Mahal. Yep we are talking the big tent!
Patrick
-
Well it looks like I'll be there for at least one night, I look forward to seeing everyone. I'll be getting in sometime Friday afternoon or evening.
Ed
-
It looks like rain, with a side of rain is on the menu for Michigan next week. No matter, we'll build an ark if needed! ...anybody know what Gopher wood trees look like?
OneBow
2 days 10 hours 31 minutes 59 seconds - till we leave for MI...
-
It may have been stated earlier, but I meant to ask, what is the availability of Fire Wood like there? Shall I pack some in or plan to pick it up there? Is there perhaps a local vendor anyone can recommend?
OneBow
-
Hey Mike, we might need help setting up the Taj Mahal. Yep we are talking the big tent!
Patrick
"PA meadow" is only soooooo big! We'll try to leave ya enough room.
:D
-
There is usually a huge pile of wood. Hopefully there is again this year. The weather may only allow a fire or two at night. Most nights are consumed by bow building under the pavilion.
-
We should be pulling in Thursday's afternoon. I don't know how auction works, I won't have a lot of $$ to spend but I'm hopeing to get some HHB split and donate a couple. Think got everything working in brothers camper. Is it ok to use a Honda generator he has one I could bring? From what I can see chance of rain every day but no big amounts, of course it Michigan anything can happen.
-
My opinion on generators? If its not medical related, its generally not welcomed by many. None are really quiet when your sleeping in a tent 20 feet away. But, if its for medical reasons, I'm all for it!
-
Ok that's what I was wondering.
-
Most wont say what they think, but I'm not that guy :) I generally speak my mind when it needs to be said, within reason and as politely as possible. Please don't take it the wrong way.
-
Thanks for being honest about it that's why I asked I understand 100 percent. I might bring it to use some I day time. If it gets real hot could be a medical my wife doesn't take the heat very good.

...just reading that line made my heart skip a beat in anticipation!!! - OneBow
-
If you ran it in the afternoons, nobody would care one bit. Its the evenings that might get under the skin of some.
-
We should be pulling in Thursday's afternoon. I don't know how auction works, I won't have a lot of $$ to spend but I'm hopeing to get some HHB split and donate a couple. Think got everything working in brothers camper. Is it ok to use a Honda generator he has one I could bring? From what I can see chance of rain every day but no big amounts, of course it Michigan anything can happen.
get with me when you pull in we may have some options for you on the generator that will keep us all purring like a kitten
its the folks that don't ask that we turn Pearly loose on
to hot is usually not a issue in that state up north but if you are just worried about an afternoon cool down step inside the club house
-
Thanks guys for being open about this I'm really glad I asked. I hate it when you ask somebody something and they tell you what they think you want to hear and then their mad because you did what they told you to do. I was thinking exactly what Pearl said that's why I asked. It is a primitive event anyhow if we can find some shade I'm sure we'll be fine.
-
I don't think the rain is going to be as bad as everyone is thinking. It looks like passing showers and not all day soaking rain. The percentage is high but the expected rainfall totals are low. The forecast looked similar for the Classic and all we got was a few evening showers. Everyone was in the bow shop anyway so it didn't matter. I hope its the same way for Marshall.
-
We have a blast rain or shine at Marshall !!!
only scattered showers showing on my forecast
-
I hope this Californian I'm picking up from the airport isn't made of sugar..... he may melt. Curious though any you guys coming got any extra 2x rain gear just in case? He's traveling light and I'd hate to see him being the only one getting soaked
-
Im just bringing an umbrella-ella-ella.
-
Pauly i ain't made of sugar or that other stuff that melts when it gets wet😈 i might have enough room for a top Paul
-
Ozarkers are not made of Sugar either, ...so I guess we'll be OK with a bit of North Country rain. We ended MOJAM with a MASSIVE T-Storm last year and didn't lose anybody, ...though a few tent poles were listed as casualties. My tent shook so violently and that it warped all the walls into odd contortions! I felt like I was in one of those house of mirrors things you see at county fairs.
Also, I found a guy up in Battle Creek, MI that does Tree Work and sells Firewood. If we get there and don't have enough, I'll give him a call. Apparently he can deliver a Pickup load of seasoned firewood for a reasonable cost...

Postman left a note in the mailbox today. Seems there is a pkg waiting for me at post office ... from some gentleman in England. Picking it up tomorrow.
-
Well guy's this all sounds great! I'm done with work for the week. I got one appointment at 9 in the morning then it's time to get the truck loaded, pick up Eric and we will be on the way. Since it's raining tonight I might get the last bit of fletchings on my mini arrows.
I have been wanting to donate something to the auction table. So today I wrapped up this cactus quiver today. Hemp cordage, elk antler buttons and sealed with a beeswax and talo mix. It will hold a half dozen of arrows with field points easily, probably more. I left the hemp long incase someone wants to add something else. Hope someone likes it!

Making arrows, I'm told by a seemingly young Kentuckian, is to be a calm .... almost zen-like ..... activity. Just take a lonnnng deep breath.

So where was all the criteria for the mini bows discussed on here? I just got a brief overview from Matt after a few beers at the classic and suddenly wondering if I have it all straight. haha

No more than 24" total length of the bow if it's over it goes in the fire

The weather took a slight turn for the better. Looking like da' Wednesday arrivals wont be sedding up in da' rain eh'.

That's good news, Drums. I'm bringing the camper down along with the Little Woman and Wee-Wicki, Wednesday after work. I have to go back home but will return again myself on Friday after work.

Got a few slingshots completed this week and bringing along to Marshall. Kept shine down so they're huntworthy. If you're looking for something to relieve boredom this deer season, these are fully capable of depleting the squirrel population.
Pearl, I think have extra bandset if ya wanna get that ss of yours back in shooting condition.

Had a complete blast this year. Got to hang out with some of the best people i've ever met. It was great puttin faces to names. Bubby, DBar, Lebhuntfish, Onebowwonder, Badly Bent , Knoll. Man, the names keep comin. JacksonCash , Bowmo, Stringman, RyanR, Pearly, Pauly, Clint, Missilemaster, BuckeyeGuy, MWirwicki, Gary Davis. My thumbs are cramping, Norm Blaker. All the wives and little ones runnin around, late nites in the pavillion. I could go on and on. I'm sure others will chime in so here's some pics.
-
Again it was a great weekend, everyone of you guys really are top shelf in my book. My ugly mug should not be in the pic of the mini bows, since i didnt finish mine but Patrick being the good guy he is let me shoot one of his. Thanx to Scott for the beautiful stones. Clint , thanx for the B-97. Bubs , thanx for the string. Thanx to Pearly and everyone else who helped with my elm bow. Gosh, i dont want to keep ramblin but i'm still gitty from hangin with you boys. Thanx.

Looks like Clint is still up to his osage experiments...or is that his new recurve. ;D

We are home. Thanks all ... ladies and gents ... for memorable 5 days!

Looks like Clint is still up to his osage experiments...or is that his new recurve. ;D
Pat, that bow had a weird spot mid limb. It was really thick in that area but hinged badly. It was like rubber. I had that bow bent into a C shape before it finally cracked.
-
What a great weekend! Able to see a lot of old faces and meet a bunch of new faces. Hung out with the guys for a few days and had my wife and daughters come up for a few days to experience the community for the first time. The days with my family I spent most of my time chasing frogs for all the kids and trying to keep my daughter Nina from torturing them. Thank you all for treating my family like yours. Guys found out it was my birthday on Saturday and all pitched in to buy me a beautiful Damascus knife and a half a dozen arrows, I don't know of a more thoughtful group. I also received a Pappy bow, that's right I own a Pappy bow from the bow trade delivered via Clint. Thank you sir it shoots like a dream. I was also gifted a slingshot from knoll, a custom-made shirt from Dan with a little Marshall saying on it, Staves from Eric and Cody, had a great trade with Tony for some fire starting material, a yew stave from pearly and I'm sure I'm leaving someone out sorry about that. Here's a bunch of pictures in no particular order
-
The girls posing with their new friend, my daughter Nina shooting for candy, Clint testing out the mini bows, Knolls granddaughter Riley with my little one. Thank you Riley for being such a sweetheart to my little girls.
-
Scenery from Marshall and some late-night bow building
-
Some more late-night antics, Clint floor tillering the bench seat and the kids shooting balloons for candy. Thanks again everybody my family and I will never forget it
-
Words can't describe how great the past few days were at the Marshall shoot. The weather turned out beautiful despite the forecast. This year there were more wives and kids running around. It was nice to see so many families there. The kids were well behaved and entertaining. Nathan must have put 500 arrows into that target at camp, Riley learned arrow making and made friends with a boy from the other camp, Scott's girls were in the creek all day long, and Paul's girls were busy chasing frogs and butterfly's.
I got to deliver a trade bow to Paul and a gift bow to Pearly. Both were surprised and very happy with their new bows. I was able to hand over my trade bows to Scott. I hope they work out for you. Bubby gave me a very cool knife. Pearly gave me a ground hog hide and a new osage bow. I picked up another Pearly bow from the trade blanket. That seemed to go over pretty well. I hope we can do it again next year.
The mini bows were fun to shoot. They proved very capable of covering the 90 yards across the pond to the bear target. The war bow guys found a few mini arrows that we missed. I would have liked to hear the comments when they were picking up tiny 12" arrows in the same area as their heavy war bow arrows.
I'm glad the Missoura guys could make it this year. It was nice talking and working with you guys. I finally got to meet Bubby. He fit right in with all of us.
I was able to get a few pictures of all the fun.

I forgot to thank Matt Wirwicki. When he heard I left my yew stave in the hot box at home he brought me a set of yew billets. What an amazing gift. Thank you Matt!

I am going to try segments to keep my thoughts separate.
First off. Thank you Mrs. Robertson for letting Bub come and play with us. What a super cool guy. We have all talked with bub for years, but you cant really know a man until you look him in his eyes and shake his hand. I can say I know Paul Robertson now.
The last few days have been some of the best in my life. It may be a long story, but Im typing it anyway, you can stop reading anytime you want. It all started after I left one super shiddy day at work on Wednesday, lots of scrambling around to allow me to leave for 3 days. Some of you read or heard about my fortunate/lucky muzzle loader hunt last winter. After dad and I cut him up I handed the hide/head over to dad so he could bring it to a friend to do a Euro mount. Over the last 8 months I had bothered the dad every few months asking where my mount was, losing patience each time. Turns out my buddy that asked me to hunt with him on his farm that night snatched it from dads house and brought it to his taxidermist for a full shoulder mount as a gift to me. When I swung the bedroom door open Wednesday after work, he was laying on my pillow :). That changed my crappy work mood, and fast.
Wifey and I make the trip down to Marshall. I barely get the camper level and Clinton Ha-Ha Anders hands me a bow sock. Inside is one INCREDIBLE gift. Pat's "Little Thumper"! Can you believe that? If you have been on here for a spot you remember him building it. Pat, Im honored to own it and will treasure it. Thank you my friend.
Its the giving at Marshall that never ends. Be it goods, gifts or words. It never ends. So much bow and arrow knowledge passing hands. So many gifts passing hands. Patrick might be one of the most thoughtful people walking Missourahhh, or the USA. It was a pleasure meeting you and Eric, both class acts and a joy to converse with. Funny? Oh yah! I told Pat-trick it makes Michigan to Missouri not such a far drive after all.
The live auction was good to me. I walked away with a genuine Patrick cactus quiver with a reverse twist sling, awesome work cat killer! There was a lot of very cool items getting auctioned off. I stayed for the duration and am pretty sure we raised some good coin for the club. Matt walked away with genuine Norm Blaker atlatl dart, COOL Matt!
I was gifted a spindle and hearth from a fella I had never met. Just started talking friction fire with him and the usual, "follow me" came out of his mouth. He had nice little kits assembled in the back of his truck. I say my thank you's and walk down to talk with Scott at his booth. While looking over his turned bowls he hands me one and says, "what could you use this for?" I say maybe a change bowl or key bowl, or both! It was fairly shallow and maybe 8" round. He hands it to me and says, "Here, give this to Jean". She loves it buddy! Thank you again.
Speaking of my wife. She had an absolute great time with all the kids and her new friends. She wants to come back I guess? :) Seems every other time I walked back to the tin tent to check on her I had something in my hands. Fire kit, bowl, alcohol stoves, arrows, a bow, and the list goes on. She is excited to join me for Elm Hall, weather permitting. This was her first and wont be her last. She was totally impressed by all of you guys. Like it or not? We are VERY unique group and a very talented group of people.
Wanna hear something cool? This should tell you what we think about each other. Saturday night some jack hole across the woods starts lighting off fire works and our dogs start freaking out, debris is landing just behind our camp and that's not cool. Greg asks them to stop, they scream "Nope, sorry!" Greg takes right off towards the house through the woods and Cody and I follow to keep our buddy in good hands, like he needs help ;). Well, they light another off and Greg asks again to stop. They holler "F-U!" this time. Now they got all of us off our butts and heading that way. It was great to see. They went to far with words and a group of guys who know respect had enough. That's what I call friends. Ended up they stopped before we got there and the night settled back into fire popping and constant laughing, like it should be.
Ive never had a group of friends I feel closer to. Not even high school friends that we did some crazy stuff with. These guys are real, caring, thoughtful, giving, gracious and I wouldn't trade it for the world.
All the wives, kids and grandkids around camp made it even more special. When it boils down, that's what events like this are all about. Passing it on to the next generation to ensure it keeps going.
Im told the club received a Federal grant for improvements. Cant wait to see what Mike and the gang improve upon in the next 12 months. I know they will and I know they will do it right. Thanks Wilder Creek Conservation Club for hosting this event.
Before anybody gets bent out of shape about Clint's Blackhawk "bow" pics. You would need to hear the full story, but you probably wont unless you where there. Trust me when I say it was a proper move by Clint. The bow and the "person" deserved it.
Thank you my friends for the arrows and the thought behind the bow. You are all very dear to me. Even you Pauly and Clint, but just sometimes and not always.
-
Yep, we are fortunate to have some generous folk in our community. And nowhere is that generosity more valuable than when bestowed on a young'un. And it often goes insufficiently recognized by us big'uns.
Fair warning . . . another wordy writeup follows.
Onebowonder, Eric, is prime example. Friday eve and into Saturday I watched him work with a teenager on a bow that was bit longer than the mini's, but still a very short piece of wood. Maybe it was the boy's 1st, don't know. But clearly, lotsa guidance was needed. Eric seemed to be there for each step. Imparting knowledge and showing gobs of patience. We left before the stick became a bow, so hope is that it was successful. But if not, that young feller went away with stronger respect for us older fellers. Good on ya, Eric!
Danzn Bar, Bill, is yet another example. My grandgirl watched Bill making his great arrows. And listened as he patiently explained each step. She's easily distracted, but remained seated next to him as though glued down. Late that eve she and I walked back to camp together. "PawPaw, that Bill knows ALOT of stuff!", she said. A few paces later, "PawPaw, think he'd make an arrow for me?" In my inimitable fashion I explained that he wouldn't likely make an arrow FOR her, but if she asked nice Bill might HELP her to make an arrow. Fast forward to next day. Bill's sitting at table with Rylie glued to his right elbow and they're working on an arrow. All the while Bill is explaining the what/why of what they're doing. Rylie may have done some of work on self nock. She definitely did the thread wrap to reinforce nock and at point end. She chose feather colors and Bill showed her how to tie them on and she tied 'em on herself ... doing better job than I myself ever have! Then the crowning glory ... a neon green (Rylie's fav color) tracer. Now, when she reaches into her quiver to withdraw an arrow, she always says "Gonna use the BEST one!"

It's easy to see this repeated over and over again at events such as Marshall. Time is our most precious resource. To watch the "grownup" guys/gals spend it with the kids is special.

Wow what a great 5 days with some of the best people i know. A lot of firsts for me this trip, first commercial flight, first time building bows with another bow builder, and finally to meet Pauly and Pearl, Clint, dbar, Greg(badlybent) knoll, these guys were instrumental in my going to Marshall. Also stringman patrick sticksnstones misslemaster the list is endless. Clint brought me a hhb stave he had parially worked down that i worked on and shot the course with on friday wearing the hip quiver he made for me, here is a few pics I'm still trying to catch up back home, i will post some more soon but wanted to say thanks and i will ad more (http://i623.photobucket.com/albums/tt320/bubncheryl/snakey/paulys%20bow/20160525_201400_HDR_zpsi9yhus02.jpg) (http://s623.photobucket.com/user/bubncheryl/media/snakey/paulys%20bow/20160525_201400_HDR_zpsi9yhus02.jpg.html)

there's some pics of pauly shooting his pappy bow and guys i shoot with, Clint had to ask me to hug that tree that's usually a private moment😋 altough everytime clint hit a tree a tear rolled down my cheek lol. It was great when he shot the steel drum just as dbar got to full draw too, you gotta watch that Indiana kid
-
yeah baby, what a great time we all had in Michigan. For starters having the California Kid there was far out and he's a pretty groovy dude to have around camp. ;D Really glad you made the trip Bub, it sure made the event special for all of us there who had come to feel we knew you long before we were able to meet you in person. Hope you can make it back one day.
The fun we all had together at our big community camp was like a family reunion with good food, lots of smiling faces and never a dull moment. Without a doubt one of the most enjoyable and memorable weekends I've experienced anywhere. I don't think I could find a better group of people to hang with and it seemed everyone was comfortable in the company that had gathered there.
Didn't get a single picture sadly but have a lot of great images etched into my mind, good times indeed.
-
I didn't get too many pictures, too busy wrangling tiny Henry. I had a blast! Wife said it was a great trip. Next year I plan on camping at the site again, her and Henry may have other plans, but I'm gonna be there all weekend. Got some work done on a couple of bows, got to BS a bit, and learned a bunch about making arrows from river cane from Bill.
It was great to see everyone again, the weekend really gave me a case of that bow building bug.

Here are a few more pics Ryan shooting while Cody, Clint and knolls granddaughter Riley wait their turn, a pic of clint coming to full draw and Mike getting his juice box on in the pavilion(http://i623.photobucket.com/albums/tt320/bubncheryl/snakey/paulys%20bow/20160528_103550_HDR_zpsoj0uvxfp.jpg) (http://s623.photobucket.com/user/bubncheryl/media/snakey/paulys%20bow/20160528_103550_HDR_zpsoj0uvxfp.jpg.html)

Finally got everything unpacked and my brothers pickup and camper returned. My wife Susie, my grandson Charlie and myself had a fantastic time. I was a little nervous before we went about my skill level and all of my homemade equipment. I had no one I ever meet who I could even compare it to our shoot it with. I somehow missed out on the mini shoot but shot the jug and bear across the pond. I really only had 5 arrows for the jug and I tried to take my time and make them count, as I shot my last arrow I turned and said I'm out of arrows. I saw Frank ( moose the rock vender ) running up to me with his quiver full of arrows and said no you aren't. I actually made it to the next round and shoot against Gary. It was a total honor when he walked up to me shook my hand looked over my bow and complimented it and my shooting. I can't tell you enough how much I enjoyed the entire experience, everyone and I mean EVERYONE was so nice. I didn't get nearly as many things done as I planed but I was so happy that my cousin Kevin and his wife Diane came. Dave the tee- shirt guy had trouble with his airbrush and we helped him get it going which turned into an all afternoon adventure. Dave had a couple Atl Atl's and darts and let Kevin throw them till his arm would fall off. Throwing an Atl Atl has been on Kevin's bucket list forever. Kevin and Diane both said they are planing on coming next year and not only that but they really enjoyed Marshall and thought they'd return to camp there other times too. My cousins Greg also came on his motorcycle Saturday morning, he also totally enjoyed the experience and won a fire starter kit from the raffle. My bow arrow and knapping budget went from $11.62 to considerably more. I got a great pair of prairie rattlesnake skins from Scott in the afternoon and another Unbelievablly beautiful pair from the auction Saturday night. Thanks for donation Mike. Pearl gave me a pair of Osage billets and a nice chunk of leather from a couch he rescued from the side of the road for a HHB stave he wouldn't have taken but he gave it to Bill. Clint gave me a beautiful side quiver for some goose primaries and turkey secondaries I really think I got way to good of a deal. Everybody was so generous, I sure hope I get this right it all happened so fast if I remember right and I'm truly sorry if I'm wrong on the next couple. I think it was Patrick gave me a Fred Bare broad head halvted to a deer antler with a beautiful buckskin sheath. I think it was Badly bent that gave me a nice beaver hide. I brought some fresh HHB and look forward to seeing some bows posted and hopefully in person in the years to come. I got some Hickory which I know nothing about other than its suppose to be a good bow wood so I'll probably be asking some questions about in the future. My grandson Charlie wants to shoot bow so much that he has a hard time slowing down enough for me to show him how. The 1st day we tried to shoot the bow I made for his cousins d he got a bit frustrated and kind of gave up. The next morning we were walking to the pavilion when we saw this boy about his age shooting his bow. We stopped and watched his form was near perfect. I said to Charlie see how he holds the bow. We kept his watching I said see how he pulls the string to the corner of his mouth. We kept watching , I said see how he keeps his elbow up and holds the string with 3 fingers. Charlie whispered in my ear "I want to shoot my bow grandpa" the little boy Luke and his grandpa Bruce followed us to get Charlie's bow and shoot with us. This time was totally deferent and Charlie did much better. After awhile Luke asked his grandpa if he could catch frogs with Charlie and in a flash they were gone. Our last night we went to bed a little earlier but l couldn't sleep I just layed there thinking about all the fun we had and people we meet and planing things for next year. I can't wait I got a lot of stuff to get ready.

Thanks for sharing the pictures and stories, looks like everyone had a great time, sorry I missed it. :(

A great time at Marshall, this long weekend. Didn't take but a few pics of the mini bows. Was great to meet Bubby from California. Onebowonder from Missouri. Enjoyed conversations with Patrick who I previously met at the Classic; a real stand-up fella. All the other buddies, BBent, OOutlaw, PDrums, BGuy, Knoll, MMaster, PSemp, JCash, Andrew, Dan, OBow, DBar, BRogg, SnStones, Stringman, CGault, NBlaker, Jeez Louise, the list goes on. Your all a top-shelf crew. Many kids, grandkids were seen at the shoot, and a big shout out to all the wives who seemed to really enjoy themselves. The "Little Woman" thanks me after every bow camping weekend for including her in what she says is the best life, ever. The camaraderie surrounding this primitive/traditional sport of ours is second to none. I'm very privileged to be able to mingle with all you all's.
-
I'm sorry I see I typed Mike instead of Matt for the skins. I'll be posting vol. 2 later. I too would very much like to thank all the mothers, grandmothers, kids, and grandkids for being such great company.if I got anything anybody gave me wrong please let me know with a PM I'd like to make a note of where everything came from.
-
Just letting ya'll know that us "Missourahhh" boys made it home safely. Dropped Eric off at his place and I got home at 230 am. We are an hour behind ya'll so that would be 330 to all you northerners.
More to come later after I get unpacked.

Wow....Had a super great time!! Made some new friends and rekindled some old ones. Nothing like meeting and talking with all the people in person.
A special "thank you" goes out to Guy and the club members that make this gathering possible. Great job guys!!!
Mike, tell Riley that she is a very good student and did a great job on that arrow.

As alway, it was fun hanging out with you guys and meeting some new people. I really enjoyed meeting the Missoura guys and learning how to pronounce Missoura correctly. I will have to work on that one. :)

4 guy's on a 3-d course, one guy shoots a steel barrel as another comes to full draw.... The look on one guy's face, priceless.😂

And Outlaw... I do owe you one..... boy do I. :) :)
Sorry Bill. You know I can't resist shooting a steel barrel on the course (http://rabbittalk.com/images/smilies/cheesy%20smile.gif)

That was hilarious Mike, even the second time😈

That's strange? I talked to the party that didn't let the string go on the barrel and he didn't think that it was all that funny? :)
Someday Clinton will get what he has coming, some day.

Yea heart attack face.........

Don't worry, Bill. Clint knows mouth to mouth. He would have pounced on you like a mountain lion, mouth wide open ready for CPR!
-
All that stinky fellow would have to do is let one rip and that would wake you right up
-
that's some epic crop dustin, like a slap in the face :)
-
I don't know what you guys are talking about ;D

Thankfully, as long as one maintains sufficient altitude, most of Clint's toxic effects float downward below detection range for standard dimension folks, ...but the young ones must have heck around him. ;) :o

I wish you had starting recording that a few seconds earlier Bubby.
-
You didn't give me a chance Clint
-
Well here it goes.
What a great time I had with all of you guys. I FINALLY got to meet almost everyone that I know here on PA.
First off I would like to say a huge thanks to Guy and all of the Wilder Creek conservation club! Ya'll are a class act for sure!
This was an awesome trip for me, I was able to share the ride with my good friend Eric. And this is my farthest travel for a primitive event.
As usual we were one of the first to arrive and the last to leave. And several nights we were the only ones left to turn the lights out in the pavilion.
I usually don't get as much done as I would like because I'm always the first one to offer assistance to anyone who ask or just looks like they are having trouble. But that's what these events are about, helping the newcomers. I made some great new friends and learned a few things as well. One that I won't forget is having a cup of coffee with Norm Blaker.
I checked off a couple of items on my bucket list to. A shot a sweet little horn bow and learned to throw an At Lattle.
I made a few trades and received a few gifts. Nothing super fancy but I'm always greatful.
I did however aquire 6 Norm Blaker At Lattle darts.
TThe best part was there were no flying objects on the highway in either direction. Unless you count the cooler that somehow came out from under our rachet strap and scooted down the highway just east of Indianapolis.
Thank you all for all the kind words, I felt at home at Marshall. You guys come and see us at mojam now ya'hear.
I'll post some pictures later.
