Bows / Re: yew - a madam's target bow 31# -27"

thanks guys! this is basically the bow and design you will find in the books and howto's of the early past century - it was the the early days of the asl. its described like that by howard hill and others...and they also suggested hornnocks like that. At that time it was the logic further development of the victorian longbow which was the dominant design up to then - see e.g. Saxton Pope.
I like this design very much.
Tuomo, its somewhat 66" ntn. the dark area? probably you mean that brown rest of bark? ....this stave didn't ask for sap-reduction - it therefore still shows some remaments of bark and bast.
cheers

A bowyer could cut logs from healthy trees of the desired species ( dense and high moe) and have boards milled to spec and air dried instead of kiln dried.

No suprise that Simk finds bamboo to out perform hickory, although saying

always perform poor. Its a massive difference
makes me think there is better moe hickory to be had, or a different thicknesses to better match the very dense bellywoods. Maybe Simk can say more about what he worked with.

The heads about done, just need some drying time and sealer. A friend brought me an old wild bore head he found on a farm west of Clarksville, decided to euro mount it also, we don't have any on the farm yet but am sure it's just a matter of time they are moving this way they say.  :)
