I think you are doing the right thing by going short or shaved, it shouldn't matter but to be honest I have done a lot of hiring over the years ans it does. Good luck, hope you get the job. :)

Kyle I know how you feel. Michigan has a 21 year drinking age. I got my ID. checked till I was about 40. Even now people that don't know always think my brothers are older than me. Maybe it's because I never really grew up.lol. I know it might bother you now but some day it'll feel good to be age slowly believe me that day will come soon enough. Make a good first impression and show your willing to learn anything you need to know.
Good Luck with the interview

Being a retired LEO.  Shave. Go in well groomed  as first appearance will mean a lot.

I shaved it off this morning between running my trapline and going to work. And now I feel naked. The only part I didn't like about shaving it off, is working on growing it out for over a year. But a benefited job is more important. So I'll just wait and grow it back later.

Your positive attitude about this will pay dividends in the long  run.  Your young and will be down this road a few times in your life BUT put your self on the hiring end of the interview table.  I think you made an excellent decision and keep us posted on your progression on this.

Will do. This isn't the career field I went to school for. But who knows, I might end up liking it better. It was like that with Brazilian jiu-jitsu. Never had any inclination for any sort of fighting sport. But I've found that it's a lot of fun. So who know if I'll like this or not

You will meet a lot of characters, some just there because of a dumb attack, some that are really dangerous, and some wannabes!  You do have to watch your back, but it depends on where you are assigned.  Most of the "guests" are short term, usually, and don't come back.  Pulled stockade duty in the MPs, and saw a bunch of different types.  Good luck,  You will probably be able to have a moustache, and maybe a trimmed goatee.  Avoid undercover work!

Bet that feels strange. I think you made the right decision to Kyle. Believe some day soon you will be happy to look younger than your age, I hope you feel younger than it to.
Good Luck with the job
