That things coming around swampman...you can use a straight edge measuring across from limb to limb just outside your fades to determine handle bend.

Jeff that bow looks like it's getting there.  Those points are killer!

Thanks for all the advice guys!

  • If the wood will bend, I'll make it beautiful!

Swampman, don't get too carried away with the handle area. You can drop weight really fast.

Missouri, where all the best wood is! Well maybe not the straightest!

Building a bow has been the most rewarding, peaceful, and frustrating things I have ever made with my own two hands!

Hey swampman,
If you need to work on the "creeping" the bend into the grip area some more, my advice would be to do it by feel (you can check with a straight edge if you want). That way you wind up with exactly the feel you want w/o taking too much wood. So brace your bow, a couple small/light scrapes and draw the bow....repeat as necessary.
I admire the amount of bend you got going on but realize you are down to the short strokes now.....a little wood removal makes BIG differences.

Thanks everyone for the feedback.  It is very much appreciated.  This is why I stopped where I was.  I wanted to come up with a plan that won't wreck what I have so far.

Here's #1 already sanded 60, 100, 220, 320 grit. The belly fractures that I created when bending the tips closed up nicely but remain noticeable. It has a a very slight twist top limb tip but I'm going to leave it as is. Now ready to add tip overlays, build up the handle, apply arrow rests, wrap the grip and finish.
61" NTN, 50#@28. Hit it right on the nose so no more messing around with this one and on to #2.
I found many years ago that it is much easier and more rewarding working with those that don't know anything than those that know it all.

Sweet rig Fred, very sweet.

Rich and PD, thank you or the encouraging words. Might be the best shooter I've made so far and if not it's right up there with a couple others.

Fred is that bending in the handle?  It looks really nice--but I will remind you I have a 29" draw, so you are going to have to work it just a little more. . .  ::)
