Hickory Selfbow
« on: June 19, 2020, 09:37:22 am »
I recently finished a shagbark hickory selfbow with a lot of remote help from my friend BowEd here on this site. The bow is 67” in length and draws 53# @ 29”. I stained the back with Feibings dark brown and black dye and sanded the high spots for a camouflage look. I finished the bow with six coats of Tru-oil and a final coat of spar-urethane. The string is Dacron B-50. I originally planned to make the bow center-shot following the grain around a knot in the handle but I chickened out and left a little more wood there for protection. Bow shoots really nice and will likely be with me when I hunt whitetails here in PA this fall. Thanks for looking.

Niceun.

The sight window could be longer if you wanted at that weight and draw. Looks like it would benefit you to see thru it more with your anchor and nice erect form.

Very nice for hickory stick.

You did a great job on that one... and had a good helper in Ed... can't wait to see the deer you get with it this fall.   :OK  The camo back is a nice touch...
Seems like common sense isn't very common any more...

Nice looking bow. I like the profile. Following Ed's advice really paid off. You did an excellent job.
