Tracy last year early in the week it was so wet water was shooting up from the ground.
-
Unfortunately I wont be able to make it down this spring. Totally bummed, but what can you do.
Its the mecca of primitive skills and PA's meeting grounds. If you've never been? You owe to yourself to go at least once.
-
I don't know? ??? Sounds kinda boring to me ::)
-
Maybe you should leave the bow shop and visit with some people and you won't be so bored BH ;) ;D
-
We will be there all week...callin it our "Honeymoon" , lol.... She dont know what she's in for.. ;)... Brian(and Darla)
-
I'm marking this on my calendar right now..... OK it's there! ;)
The countdown begins.

I plan on rolling in Monday afternoon Pappy.
-
I don't know? ??? Sounds kinda boring to me ::)
Boring watching you flinging wood chips like a beaver. ::)
-
I'd be bored too if I just stood there in envious awe watching someone else make a bow too Eddie
-
In fairness to Eddie... He would make a bow..but all the vices are to high >:D :P 8)
-
If you have never been there, you owe it to yourself. My head was spinning all day and night last year. Met so many people that I only knew by usernames...rubbed elbows with the famous and infamous...and the Twin Oaks Club will make sure you don't just feel welcome, but you will know you are welcome.
These are some truly genuine good people and their event is first class.
-
Looking forward to seeing you again, John, even if it costs me $20 more bucks. ;)
-
+1, on that Pat.
-
Thanks JW,that was very nice for you to say, most are like family to me and I can assure you ,you are welcome.Chris [ PD]I hate you can't make it,thought maybe you would come early this year and stay a while. Clint we will have the fire going for you and all the others that show up early in the week. Can't wait. :) Ya BlackHawk can turn out some bows, but he and many others are a lot of help as the shop gets crowded with lots of newbees,we couldn't handle it with out yall.Thanks. ;) :)
Pappy
-
Oh yeah!! I'll be there early again this year. Hope the walk bridges dont wash out or tornadies dont keep everyone watching the weather, but it did make things eventful for a few hours!! I think I am bringing my 13 yr old with me this year if I can get him away from school and his football coach for that amount of time.
-
I hope to be there again this year. :D
-
I would be very surprised if you weren't Jon. ??? ;) :) :) Still bumbed about Pearl, wished it could have worked out. :(
Pappy
-
Count on us Pappy. Not sure what day we'll arrive yet but I'll probably start scheduling it this week with work. They know I make my annual pilgrimage to TN!
Sorry to hear you won't be there PD, that really is a bummer.
-
One of my favorite spots to hang out w/ like minded folks. JW, I thought maybe it was the spring water that was making your head spin. ;D I hope to be there Wednesday late to Sunday midday angain this year. Gotta get the Oooga Booga tribe together again this year too. :::. dpgratz
-
JW, I thought maybe it was the spring water that was making your head spin. ;D
Not at all, bowtardio. I am immune to the effects of that Mason jar crick water. However, I do need to have Pappy install seatbelts on a stump next to the fire for when I do stay up late. Apparently the gravity gets all wonky about 2:00 a.m. in that part of the country. My poor butt cheeks ached from trying to hold onto that stump I was straddling!
-
i'm really gonna try to get there this year, but it is a heck of a long ways from south east montana (1,415 miles to be exact)
-
I should be there early.probably be down in march too.i would like to be there now.
-
This will be my 4th...there's nothing like it...I'll be there early as well.
Lyle
-
We've got the vacation marked on the calander. We'll be there early as usual. Countin' the days...
-
I'm trying to work out a longer stay this year, also. I haven't been in the woods enough or at Twin Oaks this year. I'm Jonesing. :'(
-
Hope it works out Killir duck,we get a few from out that way. ;) :) Looking forward to it as yall all know,Matt that's great, you know I will put you to work if you get there to early. ;) ;D Eddie hope you can make it for a longer stay, missed you this year. ;) Steve you coming with Bear ?

Makes me very sad to know I will miss this year's Classic. My daughter and I are going back to Namibia, Africa on a 12 day complimentary hunt. Am not sure about Hawk, but hope he can make it so I can hear all about it! Twin Oaks, Pappy, Miss Joanie, and the gang has a special place in my heart and memories and I can testify there is no better bunch of people than those that assemble there. Joe
-
Joe, that saddens my heart hearing you will not be at the Classic. It's always pleasure spending some time with you. But, that's just me being selfish. Have fun in Namibia with your daughter.
-

I told Killir Duck that I am working on getting down there again this year and that we might want to pool resources to make this happen. The scheming and conniving has begun!

I know what your family means to you, Joe, as well as what the Classic means. I know this was a tough decision, but I also know your daughter would win this one every time, too! Just to help you out, I would be willing to squire your daughter around Africa so you could go to the Classic. ;D

A cooler full of cold drinks, truck stop coffee, and a loaf of bread with a ring of red (bologna for the uninitiated), and we can save a lot on food while traveling. But I am not scrimping on breakfast at the Classic...they make decent biscuits and gravy, even if the coffee is kinda light.
-
;) :) :) Light coffee. ;) :) Joe sorry to hear that and I know Miss Joanie will be,family comes first in all aspects, hope you have a good trip and hope to see ya next year. JW/Killir duck ,sounds like yall have a good plan started.Hope it works out. ;) :)
Pappy
-
The plan is for me to be there.
I think I have the wife talked into going this year.
It will be her first. Will See.
David
-
JW good thing you weren't there when Pappy tried to slip strong tea instead of coffee one morning. ;D
David, I hope you can make it and we will for sure be on our good behavior for your wife...as long as she doesn't stay up past 10pm. ;D

I hope to see you guys there!!

Well I plan on early Friday before, last I heard Steve (Seabass ) was coming with. Also I think Bro.Dan , seabass and myself will be coming to the open in March. Mark you got room in the cabin that weekend?
-
Looking good, yes Bear ,I will have room at the open shoot for yall. ;) :)
Pappy
-
I hope to make it again this year. I promise to park somewhere that does NOT require a tractor rescue this time if I do!
Mark
-
Not a problem Mark,that is what I do,you get in and I will get you out. ;) ;D ;D

hmmm, might have to stop by. This seems real interesting. With folks in GA I got a place to rest half way up. I'm assuming there will be some trees around for me to hang my hammock?
-
I'll be there ,hopefully for a little longer this year. Great bunch of folks for sure.

Great news Rodger, always enjoy you company. Yes Tim ,plenty of trees. ;) :) :)

If you can make it happen, by all means do so. You won't regret it. But uhh...Tim....a hammock? Lol! I realize you younger fellas are pretty tough, but there will be COLD heavy rain at least once while your there. Keep that in mind when your putting together your kit. I'm from most the way to yankeeland and even I gotta get out a coat from time to time there. Just so your prepared. ;) :) Josh
-
You may just need a floating hammock!!!

I understand. How cold is it going to be in May? It's not going to freeze is it? Looked up historical weather and it's mostly rainy with a low no lower than 35 and no higher than 88. :D
-
Its pretty comfortable camping temperature Tim. I sleep in a tent with just one blanket. I'm guessing it gets in the 60's at night

I've only gone twice, but that sounds about right Tim. ;) Read that last line of your post reply again...mostly rainy, lows in the 30s no higher than upper 80s. Yup, sounds about right.

No worries about the hammock camping. I stayed in one all last year. Very comfy. I do recommend a tarp, medium top and bottom quilt, and a hammock sock if ya have one. I'll be down early in the week again this year, Steve, Bear and Bro Dan.

A tarp is a given and I figured a thick blanket and a sleeping bag would be good. Never used the sock before but it seems like a really good idea.
-
Gothmog had a nice setup. It must have been comfortable because we heard snoring coming out of it at all hours of the day through the week ;D
Tim, they have a nice shower tent and a kitchen but I don't think the kitchen is open until later in the week. Its a nice place to camp. Last year there was an owl that I listened to as I fell asleep most nights.
-
Oh YEAH! Just found out im gonna get to attend this years classic. Will be my first one. Plan on doing the ultimate bow challenge. Anyone know the rules for bringing your own stave. As in can it be a bow blank or does it have to be a quarterd stave with bark on? Either way i'm looking forward to meeting a lot of you guys. Gonna be a long drive though, 14 hours all the way from the middle of texas!
-
There are other folks coming from that direction. Maybe you can hook up with someone and share expenses.
The folks at Twin Oaks have staves already dry and ready to go. Pappy or one of the Twin Oaks guys will give you more info about it.
You'll love Twin Oaks, the Tenn Classic and all of us PA folks that will be there. ;D
-
My only fear is that my beard will not match the awesomeness of most of ya'll out there :'( seems like you have to have an epic beard to be a good bowyer ;)
-

Nah....the beard just makes a handy place to keep your pencil. Lol!
Yeah Tim......I made it sound worse than it really is. If you keep dry, its pretty pleasant. Josh
-
Its a nice place to camp. Last year there was an owl that I listened to as I fell asleep most nights.
I heard my very first wild barred owl down there last year. I answered her back and she flew in closer. We hooted back and forth a few times until she had to fly-over to get a close look at the Yankee hooter! That was my first nite at the Classic and it set the tone for the whole time.
-
Sounding good folks,we cut wood this weekend and started making plans, can't wait to see yall again. Ink you can bring you own stave ,no nocks cut in but can be floor tillered, all you have to do is register,we have staves and lots of other folks have some also if you don't have one dry and ready, cost on them vary, depending on what kind of wood and how far along they are. Glad you can make it,sounds like we are going to have several 1st timers. Tim,you should be fine,if you get to cold I have plenty of stuff you can cover up with. Heck GunDoc might make room in his sleeper. ;) ;D ;D ;D ;D By the way GunDoc we are widening the drive. ;) ;D
Pappy
-
Good to know Pappy. I'm looking forward to meeting everyone, finally putting a face to the names on the screen. Im dragging my Dad and brother over there too. Gonna be their first bows as long as they can wait till the classic to make one. Should make for an entertaining weekend ;D
-
Lol! Someone just well use the sleeper. I usually don't manage to find my truck til 3 or 4 AM. :o. Glad to hear about the driveway project. It was a little tight getting the ken-a-bego in the entrance. I'm still in delicate negotiations with my war dept (Missus Doc) on whether or not I can attend. I am confident that we can come to some sort of accord, but it may get expensive. Josh
-
Well, I sure hope it's in the cards for me to go. Still have some logistics to work out, but this is something I'm a lookng forward to...

Sometimes you have to take one for the team Josh ;D
-
Josh, we could organize a phone chain, if you like. Everyday a different one of us will call Missus Gun Doc and ask if you can come to TN in May to play with us. I'm sure by mid-March she'd just throw her hands in the air a beg you to go. >:D

>:D

Pappy,
I had no idea what primitive archery was or how many people were interested in it until I went to last years classic. One year later I'm totally hooked on it and been spending most spare time splitting yellow wood, cutting shoots and looking for rocks. Heck, I've even made several bowstrings from sinew.
I will definitely be there this year and even though I'm not very good at making bows yet, I do have considerable experience at brewing beer and plan to make a special batch for the classic. I figure this is one primitive skill that I do have that may possibly be appreciated around the camp fire.
Can't wait!
Ed from Murfreesboro, AKA forest farmer

I am planning to be there in March for the open shoot and the end of April for the classic.i can't wait.i still gotta get something made for the raffle.

We'll be back this year, after attending my first Tenn. Classic last year I left determined to make it back every year. Great time and best people ever gathered in one place. Can't wait to be in camp at Twin Oaks again. :)
-
Getting a lot of messages and responce from around this great country of ours ,so it is shaping up to be another good one. :) Now just got to get the place all dolled up for all my friends. ;) ;D ;D ;D after a few days we can't find anything again but helps to start out with stuff in some kind of order. ;) :)

Come on Dbar, where's your sense of adventure? Be a man and camp down by the creek. It's so peaceful and serene, then there's a cloudburst or a tornado and things get interesting pronto!! I couldn't even make it to my campsite one night last year for the high water. Pappy made me sleep in his cabin (I hated that >:D ).

You where just being a sissy!!! lol Was fun, and can't wait until we do it again.
-
Greg S.
I'm getting too old for all that "peaceful and serene" atmosphere. ;D ;). Badly Bend and I camped next door to each other last year. I got there Thursday night, no room down by the creek. I need the exercise walking up and down the hill anyway. Hope to see ya at Moontree and the Classic. Maybe you can give me some shooting pointers. I remember last year at Moontree you shot pretty well.
See ya then
DBar
-
Dbar, looking forward to meeting again soon. If I were you, I would look elsewhere for a shooting coach! I suck at it. Seems the more I shoot, the worse I get!! Explain that. I hope I can soak up some more bow building knowledge off you guys. See you at Moontree.
-
Greg,me and Bear made it to camp.on a 4 wheeler.my boots weren't tall enough to cross the creek lol.plus that's where our beer was.

Ha! Can't let the "supplies" get washed away!!
-
It was quite the rain if I remember right, :-\ happens so much at the Classic it's hard to remember just one insentient. ;) :) :) Wished it wouldn't rain,it always make mine and others life tougher but we always seem to manage to have a great time inspite of the weather. ;) Tough ,hardy bunch that come to this thing I always tell folks that want to know how we do it and don't seem to mind that much. ;) ;D ;D I guess when you play outside you have to plan on getting wet sometimes. :)
Pappy
-
Yep, every now and then we get a sprinkle. Brings everyone together under the bow shop and napping pit. One thing for certain, the fire never goes out!
-
Yep,never a dull moment around there. Fire can be a challenge but some how we manage. Really looking forward to it,miss all you folks. :) Wished we lived closer together. :)
Pappy
-
Matt, as I recall me and you got a little muddy and wet digging up the posts for the swinging bridges that got washed out. Everyone come together quick like, and the bridges were in order in no time. Fun times. :)
-
Didn't seem like that much fun at the time Greg, but looking back that is what memories are made of,how about the stuck dump truck, now that was fun :-\
Pappy
-
Well....its pretty much almost official....sorry guys I'm pretty sure I won't be making it down this year....I have a family trip planned, and if I did the classic as well it wood only leave me with 1-2 days left of vacation for the rest of the whole year...and I shouldn't be cutting myself that short with what I get off from work :-\
-
And to think I was going to bring you a well seasoned mountain laurel stave. We sure will miss you, Chris. Next year make Twin Oaks your family vacation destination. ;)
-
Ah man! I was going to show you how slow I could make a bow, blackhawk, and maybe do a little tradin'. Hate to hear it, but time well spent if with the family. We'll cross paths again.
-
Greg, you are the only person I know that can rough out a bow with sandpaper ;D

-
Ya and fun to watch when he is on a mission, like a machine. :) I will miss his smile and for sure miss the help he provided us. Don't know how we would manage in the shop if it weren't for folks like him. :) Like Gary Davis use to tell me before he retired, them folks at work really keep up with my vacation time. ;) :) :)

I am sorry to say that I will not be able to make the Classic this year as well. Been a tough last year and I will still be in PT for my should surgery and also going to have to go to rehab for this vestibular problems that I am having. No way could I make the drive. Along with all the financial obligations given me from all this, there is just no way to make it.
I will be there is spirit, and chewing on my lip every day for not being able to come, but it is just not meant to be this year. I will miss you all, and look forward to seeing all the pictures that everyone post so I can at least get some what of my Classic Rush.
Have fun everyone and maybe see you next year.
-

Well sorry you can't make it Chris. And Charlie it won't be the same without you buddy.
And everyone stop picking on Greg, that's my job. >:D

Hi All,
I am finally going to make it back this year. The last time I got to come the creek rose above the axles of my trailer and I thought I was going to need an ark! Then the next year it really rained! Going to bring the wife with me so she can experience the Classic too.:) (and raincoats!) Pappy has oked me as vendor so I will tote along lots of Native American Style flutes in case anyone is interested. I will also bring extra tuning charts and will be glad to help anyone who is making their own flute with free advice and such. While I do routed and boo flutes I really like the branch flutes...so if anyone is making one and needs advice I will be glad to help 'em. If anyone would like to ask me some questions about flutes beforehand or get one ready to be tuned you can email me separately. Be glad to help.

Chris and Charlie I'm really sorry to see you guys aren't gonna make it this year, hope to see y'all next year. And you guys don't have to worry about that Hippy Tim ;), I watched that man run around barefoot in 31 degree weather with frost on the ground eating tree bark, Spanish Moss and Bahia grass while we were eating Backstrap steaks, Wahoo and Blacktip Shark steaks. And then he was eating oak leaves and slept on the ground in a sleeping bag when the rest of us ate a Dutch Oven chicken with vegetables. He's tough.
-
Well.....negotiations have come to a successful conclusion with Miss Dyan. I have the greenlight to attend the classic! Woo! Hoo! It's only gonna cost me a suburban and a master bathroom remodel. And she thinks she got the better end of the deal ::) >:D. She sure gets some funny notions! I figured Tim was pretty tough Eddie. I just wanted to make sure that braving the elements would be done out of a well informed decision and not out of unforeseen necessity.
Now its up to the whims of my boss and dispatcher. I hope to see you all there! Josh
-
Glad you are gonna make it Rand and looking forward to meeting your wife.
Josh, glad you got the OK from Momma.
-
That's awesome Josh. I was dreading watching the fire all night by myself. ;)
-
That's great new Rand and Josh,I will save you a spot Josh at the bottom,we are widening the drive as I speak so you should have plenty of room to get that big rig down the hill this year, hope Tim can make it,he could hang his cote under the bridge, water rarely gets that high, :-\ :D as long as no trees come down the creek he should be fine. ;) ;D ;D ;D Suposed to have G Fred's wife coming this year with her wool stuff so if he gets cold maybe we can get him hooked up. ;) :)
Pappy
-
Glad we didn't have to proceed to Plan B Josh ;D
-
Good news Josh! Throw a pylon out next to the rig if you get there before me and save me a parking spot kin the usual place. I plan to set up as usual down by the geysers, if Pappy will allow me to again this year.
-
I camped out at the far end in the edge of the woods. It was nice and peaceful. I didn't have any visitors at all for the first couple a days, only Pappy's dog. She always knew when breakfast was ready bout daylight. It was a long hike back to the bow shop and shower house and then back if I needed to refill with "supplies" from the cooler tho. Come to think of it, gonna camp a lot closer to the action this year and save a few steps.
-
Get us a spot up close Greg. Pearly and BH wussed out so I will need someone to tend the cookfire, I mean campfire ;D
-
me and Bear will get our spot early.just come set up by us Greg.you know it will be a good time.
-
We were right next to you guys Steve. We will try to get there again.
-
When will you and Bear be getting there Steve? I plan on getting there midday the Saturday before the Classic.
-
I have quite a bit of vacation. Maybe I'll catch a Knap-in that isn't in Texas.
-

I hear you!!
-
That would be great Tower, lots of nappers,Haven't heard from Patrick but he usually makes it up from Texas,I know Texas is a big state but might hook a ride with him. :) ;) Greg/Clint glad their will be someone to tend the fire, use to be my job but them late nights and very early morning gets to me worse than they use to.Especially when you do it 5 or 6 days in a row. ;) :) Me and Bear for years tried to put everyone to bed,but getting older now and it just don't seem to work at least not for me. ;)
Pappy
-
I hope you are feeling better this year Pappy. You turned in early a few nights last year.
-
Ya Clint, just wears me down more than it use to. :)
Pappy
-
Would be great to meet ya, Don! Hope you can make it. My aim is to be there on Weds and hoping to park the popup near the creek.

Pappy, I can help out too. Just so you know, my strengths are: watching the campfire, food tasting, shooting the bull, and drinking cold beverages. Not especially in that order. >:D
-
Glad we didn't have to proceed to Plan B Josh ;D
Lol! You and me both Clint!
Derik, that goes vice versa if you get there first.
Thanks Pappy! I am so looking forward to seeing everybody again. That widened drive will be nice! I hope to get there Wednesday, but it depends on the loads of course.
Dave, we'll be sure to keep a good firewatch for sure!
Where's Cracker been? It won't be long til we need to start thinking about the low country boil. I'm in for sure! That was some good vittles!
Pat, I'll pick you out a nice piece of fence post before I head down. Josh
-
I'm planning on making it again this year as long as work will let me. Probably take at least one of the boys out of school and drag em along with me again this year too.
-
Cool, great place for kids to learn about the realy world. :) Not sure where Cracker
has been, see him on life is good once in a while, hope all is OK with him. :-\ Ya I am saving some of my gator just for that. ;) :)
Pappy
-
It is good to hear that Primitive Tim is going to be there.
Will be good to meet him.
Now if we could just get Ryan G. to show up as well.....
David
-
I'll give Ronnie a call or swing by his place in Ga. on the way home from Twin Oaks and South Carolina in April. I've been meaning to stop by his shop for years on the way home.
-
I was listening to Will's music on the way home tonight and I could almost smell the smoke from the fire pit and hear the sound of scraping and chipping in the background.

Change of plans. I reserve one week of vacation to fund my trip to the classic. Three break downs last week put us in a bind and I had to use that vacation to cover bills. In the last seven days I have spent six in motels. $7,000 dollars in wrecker bills, $400 in motel rooms, plus food and other assorted expense not including the cost of the actual repairs, I shoulda went fishin'. My boss and I both would've been way ahead. I'm completely disgusted. The classic has become the highlight of my year and now I have to miss it because of break downs that are completely the fault of do nothing, feel good emissions legislation forced on the country by a few states. If this stuff really cleaned up pollution, I'd be all for it. Simple fact is, it don't. I'll quit now before I really go postal. Sorry for the rant, my disappointment is quite profound and i really needed to vent. Josh

Ahhh Man! That totally BLOWS Josh!! Daggummit! You will definitely be missed at the Spirit Station on Saturday. and in the knapping pit and on the range and around the cooler...the list goes on and on. Man that Blows!! >:( dp
-
Keep ur head up, Josh. Thangs may change yet... But if you do end up not showing, I'll shoot a round for ya and see if your score improves! >:D :o ;D
-
>:( >:( That's some bad news Josh. We need to figure out a new plan B
-
sorry to hear that Josh.i hope everything works out for you.
-
Thanks fellas! Scott, you'll probably have my score improved before you finish the first half of the course. Lol! Josh
-
Thanks fellas! Scott, you'll probably have my score improved before you finish the first half of the course. Lol! Josh
Uh, Doc? You know that was Scott that was making that offer right? He only shoots meat, targets fluster him!
-
I hate that Josh, :( maybe you will get a run in that direction,if so you know we will make room,I know what you mean about the new standards,I manage a truck fleet,I have spent 23,000.00 on one truck in the last year,2 year old Pete. It's alway something with the new ones. >:( >:(
Pappy
-
Guys I don't wish to sound ignorant. Is knapping welcome at the classic?
-
Guys I don't wish to sound ignorant. Is knapping welcome at the classic?
Yes Sir! There's a knapping pit next to the bow shed and ABO knapping at the spirit station. There might be an hour or two in the early morning when you don't hear somebody breaking rock. Here's a couple pics from last year. Josh
-
Tower, the debitage on the floor of the knapping pit is 4" to 6" deep so I hope it is welcomed. ;) Most of the time its hard to find a seat.
-
I appreciate that Pappy. I won't completely abandon hope until its over. Stranger things have happened. I'll just have to play it by ear until then. Does that Pete have the paccar or Cummins? We have a dozen urea burners. 6 Cummins, 6 Paccars all twelve of them are shop queens. I highly doubt there is a reliable motor made now. Anyway, we'll see what happens. Josh
-
The last truck I had before getting laid off, was a new Volvo with the dreaded "blue cap" tank. What a piece of JUNK - that and it was an automatic tranny too >:(!!!!!!! ALWAYS something wrong with it - Bob.
-
paccar in these Josh, can't keep them running. Tower their may not be as many nappers as bow builders but it close. As PatB said the pit is always full almost round the clock. ;) :)
Pappy
-
Don the knapping pit will be busy till the wee hours of the morning. Pat, before Jesse left, Jon myself and Jesse shoveled out most of the chips. It didn't take long to fill it back up.
Josh, I hate to hear about you not making it. Bet it has to do with low sulfur fuel? the stuff is killing us, been spending a fortune on our trucks.
-
I put in for the time off today. I'm planning on making the drive .
-
Man that is Great Tower, really looking forward to seeing you. :)
Pappy
-
Drag Gstoneberg's butt with you, Tower!
This year's could be quite the year down there in ol' Tennessee! It's looking more and more like we are going to be able to get Del the Cat flown over to teach us poor Colonials how to build proper English Longbows! And you can teach him how to drink crickwater out of a mason jar with his pinkie up in the air.
For those of you that may have missed it, we are going to try to raise some frogskins to fly Del over to Tennessee to attend the Classic. I got the idea last year when some great folks chipped in to get me there. It was a humbling experience to have so many great people help out and I realy wanted to find a way to "pass it along". Then in June, I got a nice little windfall and I stuffed it under the mattress with this in mind. I've ponied up the first $300 out of pocket, set up a bank account specifically for this endeavor and learned how to operate Paypal. If you are interested at all, you can p.m. me your email address and dollar amount so I can send you an invoice. Or you can buy raffle tickets on a knife that Killir Duck made and donated. Same technique, just send a p.m. with your email address, and how many tickets you want ($5 each, $23 for 5). We'll get it done from there!
-
Thanks JW, Very nice thing yall are doing. When will yall draw a winner for the knife ? and is their a dead line on when you can get in. ;) :) Only about 6 weeks till it's on. I can hardly wait. ;) :) We are having a shoot/event this weekend and will be a lot of fun but for me nothing compairs to the Classic. I help TwinOaks with all that goes on but this is My baby and is so special with all the folks I have meet over the years that I have become very close friends with, even tho we only see each other usually once a year. :)Hard to explane but looking forward to meeting more new faces this year and I am sure I will. :)We go to lots of work to make a good event [labor of love] but it's the people that come that make this so special. With out yall it would be just another shoot. :) Hope to see ya in late April or early May. ;) :)
Pappy
-
Killir duck is running the raffle, I'm just the guy holding the hat out!
The deadline is open until the airline ticket is covered. I am going to buy the airline ticket soon, and I am going to have to rob Peter to pay Paul to do it and trust the rest comes in.
The one mystery I did not solve last year at the Classic, is how all the work gets done without it looking like a crew of people is laboring fulltime to pull it off? A crowd of people like that generates a lot of trash, for example, but the trashcans were always emptied, there was little or nothing on the ground to pick up.
I've helped run a couple rendezvous events over the years. I know how much work there is and I know the more people you have at the event the higher the work load goes! Twin Oaks has 25 members, the event sees something like 4-500. That's up to 20 guest per staff member! I don't see how it happens, I just don't see it! But it happens, no denying that!
Maybe they get cloned when they become Twin Oaks members? One to work, one to sleep...12 on, 12 off!
-
I think a lot can be said for their organization and planning skills. Top notch guys for sure. "They got their ducks in a row!"
-
JW, what you haven't taken into consideration is that primitive archery people are the best in the world. They see something that needs to be done, they do it. They are very self-sufficient and need very little baby sitting. Pappy and the Twin Oaks crew do an amazing job facilitating and organizing the event. Once the event starts, there's 400 to 500 "volunteers" there to anything and everything that needs to be done. That's one of the great things about this community.
-
Very true Hedge, and also JW what sleep. :-\ ??? :) :) sleep when it's over is what I tell all the guys. ;) Del the Cat just booked his flight,so this should be another interesting year. :) About 5 weeks and counting. :)
Pappy
-
I put in for the time off today. I'm planning on making the drive .
Hope to see you there Tower! Always said I would love to sit down and break some rock with you!

Pappy
Del's not even there yet and Pappy has started using the English understated humor! Having Del at the Classic will definitely be interesting! I gotta remind him to bring some of his favorite tea along because I am not sure that southern sweet tea is what he is accustomed to drinking.
For those of you interested in making ELB's, you have a fantastic chance to pick his brain and have him look over your work! If you have ever read his bowyer's blog, you will quickly find out that this bow style is something he loves. 5 weeks and counting, still time to pitch in a few bucks to help get him over here and/or buy some of Killir Duck's raffle tickets on the knife! Let's "PASS IT ALONG"!
-

I'm sure a couple doses of Southern stump water will get him primed up. It seems to show up regularly at the Classic. :D
-
What humor,I'm serious. ;) ;D ;D ;D
Pappy
-
I gotta remember to tell Del that some of the poorer southern boys can't afford them fancy-schmancy Nalgene(tm) water bottles, so they carry their water in a Mason jar. I gotta warn him that there are odd bacteria in that dirty water that seems to have a bad effect on gravity. A few slugs of that and my butt couldn't get a grip on that hickory stump next to the fire, kept sliding off the side!
-
John, you were just feeling the affects of the eastitude. It is kinda like altitude but it is horizontal. ;)
-
Changes in eastitude, changes in yeastitude.
-
A week or so ago Pearlie sent me 3 old Bear Acme POC arrows, field points and feathers to fletch them with. After fletching and adding field points I thought I'd shot them and the "Classic" hickory backed lemonwood bow was handy. Boy did those arrows shoot well. So well I've decided to add them to the raffle with the lemonwood bow instead of the poplars I made for it. Classic bow style and classic POC arrows what could be better...well, a classic style side quiver...so I made one. Now when you buy a raffle ticket for the bow you are also getting the chance for the 3 old bear arrows and the side quiver; the classic set. Thanks for the arrows, Pearlie. They really make the set.

Man them are cool,I have a few like that and they are hard to beat, thanks Pat
you are 2 generous. Be here soon, making plans and things are starting to come together, every year it seems very overwhelming to start with and then as it gets closer things seem to just start falling into place. :) See yall in a few weeks.
Pappy
-
Pappy, you know...if you build it, they will come. ;) 8)
-
That's a sweet set up there Pat. Somebody will be very happy to win them.
-
Thanks Clint. As much work as the Twin Oaks boys do for us at the Classic, this is just a drop in the bucket. ;)
-
I dunno, Pat, this is Wall of Fame stuff. You are really going all-in on this one!
-
That's gonna cost me some bucks PatB. Thanks a lot. :) Can't wait to see ya Pat.
David
-
You too David. I'll drink one of your beers with you. ;)
-
Thanks again Pat,you have went above and beyond on that set. DaveO see ya in a week. ;) ;D ;D Gobble/Gobble/Gobble. ;)
Pappy
-
I'm getting antsy for the Classic. Nuff said...
-
Dang, Pat. You know how I am about that Classic Bear stuff. Better break your piggy bank, Dave ;). I 'll be there Saturday morning at daylight, now, the boss wants me to hang out Friday for some reason. I'm usually off on Fridays if I have 40 hours, I feel important now :).
I'll drink a Red Bull going through Nashville and jump out of the Jeep camo'ed and lock and loaded Saturday morning. Wake you up, Dave. ;)
-
Can't wait Eddie! I think I'm gonna stay til Monday. Get an extra day hopefully. See ya in a week.
David
-
Vacation time is approved! Gonna be there this year and I am really looking forward to it. Had a fire in my shop last year and it kept me away, but it looks good this year. Should be rolling in on Thursday afternoon. Looking forward to seeing y'all. :)
-
It will be great to meet you Howard. You will love the Classic. Don't forget to bring your umbrella and durability. ;)
-
Will do Pat. Looking forward to meeting you.
-
tee minus 32 days until I go.
and no I'm not doing a count down lol, just happy
-
I was wondering just yesterday where Bear and his countdown here. I'll be there a few days after you, Bear. 8)
-
Great news Howard, glad it is all working out this year. ;) Be here before you know it guys/gals. Can't wait. I better get busy 32 days till Bear and several more show up,what ant finished they always pitch in and help me with. Last year we had to rebuild a bridge, couldn't have done it without all the help. Matt is a really good tractor operator by the way. ;) :) :) :)
Pappy
-
You better invest in a nice silver plate tea service and hire a butler, Pappy! You got a proper Englishman coming over from across the pond this year! Coffee might not cut it for the gentleman!
And check your wine cellar and make sure there is port and cigars in the drawing room!
-
We can probably get him un proper pretty quick, >:D Miss Cat won't know him when he returns. ;) ;D ;D
Pappy
-
Man where does time go,just a month till this is on,3 weeks for some of us. Can hardly wait to see yall again. :)
Pappy
-
I am stoked! This will be my first time attending. I am really looking forward to putting some names and faces together. Any advice on what to bring (besides rain gear :D)? I am planning on pitching a tent and staying Thursday to Sunday. Planning on bringing some things from down this way to trade, osage staves, river cane, etc.
-
What ever you have room to haul Howard, lots of trading going on. ;) :) :)
Things are begining to come together as they always seem to,we got the buttons ordered yesterday for the main shoot and some different ones for the selfbow challenge, also wrist bands for all the kids, got the selfbow challenge trophies made and arrows almost ready for the main shoot plaques, also T shirts and name plates for the trophies. We still got tents to put up[3] and shower tent also ranges to set and still more clean up around the pavilion and shop but we have 2 working weekends before it gets here so we should be in good shape. The good thing is we always have several that show up the week before that will jump in and help finish up if their is anything left to do, :) :)now that's pretty cool. :) I always hope their is nothing left by then but always seems to be. ??? See ya in a few weeks. :)
Pappy
-
If all goes as planned, I will be there the Saturday before, so feel free to include me in the "to do" list when I get there. I'll help in any way I can. Starting to get a little antsy!! Attending the Moon Tree event has got me fired up for the Classic.
-
I cant hardly wait!

Chris still bummed you can't make it the shop just won't be the same. :( Man these new buttons look like they will be cool, also the TShirts and going to be Maroon and white, haven't had that color since the 6th Classic. :) :)

Very cool, hope it worked JW,see y'all in a few weeks Pappy
-
I just couldn't bare the thought of not being there...if I wasn't there that wkd I'd be pouting all wkd long...so I made some calls and found a ride to hitch down Thur eve....that gives me only two days to play...but two days n being there is better than zero and not being there at all... 8)

Ill be there with bells on next spring! Sometimes things just don't pan out. I have too many plans on not enough vacation time for all of it.
-
Kinda like Gary always said if there is one thing work does well, it is keep track of vacation time !
-
Hey Pearly, I can go next year too. Maybe we can caravan down? I get unlimited vacation time in 2 months and 8 days. ;)
-
Are you asking me out teach?
-
Yep. You did great work on my wood last year, I'd like you to help me again next year. ;D
-
I hear ya Pearl, I am just kind of a boring guy and this is about all I do,so after
being on the same job for 34 years I have plenty of Vac. time for my hobbies.
People ask me all the time when I am going to retire and I say why, seems I off more than I am on anyway ;) :) they pay me good and don't work me hard so why would I want to retire. ;)Probably just get boring working on bows and hunting all the time. ??? :-\ ;) :) :) see some of yall in a little over 2 weeks. :)

Me and nc longhunter will be there wed.around noon save us a spot pat.

I posted this in Pappy's "Life is Good" thread but thought it would be good to cross post it here to get the info and thanks out to all who are coming.
I sure am grateful for all the guys who lend a hand with the Selfbow Challenge each year. Trust me when I say it's grown each year. We average about 5-8 more each year over the past 5 years, and last year we had 79 register so that may mean we'll bump 90 this year. You folks who pitch in are so very important to this success.
I plan this year to pass out to each person registered for the Challenge a ticket that puts them in a drawing for a prize if they come to me after they complete their bow with the info on the bow they finished. Weight/draw length/ total length/ and wood type will be recorded by me. Pappy said to me once a while back it sure would be good to have this kind of info, so I'm going to try this this year. Not sure about the prizes yet, most likely it will be something made by a member or something donated for this. I'll come up with something nice. If someone has an idea let me know what would work for prizes. The important thing is to gather the info for the bows built. One ticket per person registered, when they see me when they finish their bow they get a ticket. I'll give out as many prizes as I can rustle up. I'll have posted the time for the drawing in the Bow Shop area the location will be the Bow Shop.
Once again let me thank all the people who pitch in and help us make this part of the Classic so successful.
-
Got ya covered Bryan. I'll be there Tuesday so I'll mark a spot for you. Anywhere in particular?
Jon, I spend lots of time under the bow shed and love every minute of it. Looking forward to hitting 90 bows built and 90 satisfied, smiling faces.
It won't be long now! 8)
-
Great idea Jon,and yes many thanks to those that jump in and help,it use to be simple to keep up with waht was built but as it has grown that has got harder so I think this will help a lot. Right Pat,won't be long now. :)
Pappy
-
Look what I found
-
Hey Jon....I'll donate an osage stave for one of the prizes for the self bow challenge drawing if that's OK with you guys..seems like an appropriate prize for one of the prizes for it...lemme know.
Hey pappy I'll prob throw down a bow or two on the raffle table again this year if that's aok?
This Yankees starting to get excited to head down to a lil tennersee holler and raise a lil hell!!! ;D 8)

Yes sir Pat. It will be great to share a campfire with you. Eddie that's great news. She pan on leaving here Wednesday early morning.
That would put us in Memphis about two PM. I'm thinking about taking Diego to see Grace Land since we will practically be there. Is it worth the entry fee to see? If we go to Graceland, that would put us at Twin Oaks about 9PM.
Cipriano
-
Pappy: Yes, we would like the same spot if it's no trouble. Thank you.
-
Pappy, If everything goes right I should be there on Monday, I'm probably coming by myself unless I can hook up with Chucky and the NY bunch. Bob

Anyone hear from Cracker?
Okay, I mentioned the Thursday evening boil in an earlier post. I'll start another one for contributions to the boil. I'll take on cooking it but will hand over the reins, if Cracker comes out of hiding.

-
Very cool Kevin, was hoping yall was coming, guess I need to see if I can dig up a holey stave for Chucky ;D ;D ;D ,Davy said he would be a day later this year,at some kind of knife show or something ,said he and Barb would be there Wed. morning. ;) :)
Pappy
-
One week from today and I'll be there. Coming by myself in our Toyota Corolla so I'll have limited capacity.
-
There is a faint glimmer of hope that I might get to make it after all. I hope it works out, either way I know you all will have a blast! Best gathering I have ever attended.
-
I think JW should make the trip even if it means hocking a couple of his long guns! Not making it myself leaves a big hole in my heart so hope someone remembers me at the Spirit Station! Joe
-
You will be remembered Joe, and your presence missed by many. Maybe we can paint an African animal at the Spirit Station for some good mojo. What will you be hunting in Africa? dp
-
My contract is for 12 plains game animals, but I only want to shoot a Mt. Zebra and they are the most difficult by far. They come into the water holes in the night and then head for the thick mountain cover during the day and are they ever hard to pull a sneak on! Wouldn't mind shooting a wart hog with my bow. Costs add up when you shoot something as the mounting and shipping can get expensive. Still a lot cheaper than hunting a Yukon moose in Canada. If you see Miss Sweet Pea at the Classic please tell her hi for me! Joe
-
Uh oh, change of plans. My son's middle school district baseball tournament is this Friday and Saturday. They have had a great season and are the #1 seed. I have supported them throughout the season by contributing my time whenever needed and volunteering to help. As the #1 seed, they will be hosting the tournament and will need me greatly to help with concessions, grill, gate, prepping the field, and what not. Other parents have failed to step up as needed, and I can't bail on the team. That being said, I will be a day later than planned :'( but still should arrive this Sunday. It's all good.
-
I think JW should make the trip even if it means hocking a couple of his long guns! Not making it myself leaves a big hole in my heart so hope someone remembers me at the Spirit Station! Joe
Joe: My eldest son will definitely remember you. You invited him to participate in last year's ceremony. I'll have him climb to the Spirit Station for a word wishing you best on your hunt.
-
Can you say 3 days??
Can't wait to see everyone and get to spend a little time with Pappy before everyone gets there. (even know he will work me) ;D
-
6 days for me :( I did a tune up on my truck today. Its running smooth and ready to head south.
-
I think JW should make the trip even if it means hocking a couple of his long guns! Not making it myself leaves a big hole in my heart so hope someone remembers me at the Spirit Station! Joe
Sacrilege! Unthinkable! Not to be spoken of!
I still think you are making the right choice, Joe. It would be a tough choice for me to make between Africa and Tennessee...but you get to go with your daughter, so for you the choice is much easier! You will have a great time!
-
We will miss you Joe but you know you will be in our thoughts. Heck if I had that choice I would probably be headed to Africa also. ;) :) Greg,it's all gone and you are doing the right thing, good luck with the team. Bear see ya Friday. Hope it works out paoliguy. :)

Matt, if you see a short stocky guy an hour or two south of Indy with a stave in one arm and a thumb sticking up on the other stop and pick me up!
-
Sure thing, Clintster!
Remind me, what is the Exit number off 24?
-
Exit 19 off 24w headed from Nashville to Clarksville/Fort Campbell. turn left off the interstate. Signs should be up but if anyone gets to there and needs help call me 615-456-5961 and I can talk you in. You are very close at that point. :)
Pappy

Matt
Give everyone a hug for me !

Well I have have bad news. Diego hurt his ankle again at school yesterday. The same one he broke. He has to go to the ortho again next Friday. He got a brace, but it's painful to him. No Classic for us again this year.
I'm really bummed, but not As bummed as Diego. I've been cutting, pealing and sealing mesquite. Mostly to give away. Sure wanted to meet y'all and share a campfire.
I could make it, but that would devastate Diego if I went with out him and I would miss his birthday on the 1st too. I had an arrow head piñata made for him and had asked Pappy if we could go at it there.
Those of you that I have mesquite for, I will put it up and it will be well seasoned for next year. Hopefully it can happen next year.
If you were wanting skins PM me since I won't be there with them.
Man I'm bummed, but all in God's good time.
Cipriano
-
Ah man, that stinks. Hope all goes well with Diego. I sure was wanting to meet you guys. Sending you a PM.
-
:( sorry to hear that Cip. Send Diego our wishes for a quick recovery. dpgratz
-
That really blows, Cipriano. I hope Diego gets well and learns that Soccer isn't a manly, American , game. ::) ??? ;D ;) Football, realllll, football. :)
-
Well that stinks cip...sorry to hear that.... :-\
Early birds should be showing up now this weekend....lucky dogs
-
It's on,rain is here but looks like later in the week will be OK Pappy
-
Everyone that is traveling in the next two days please be careful. Severe weather east of the Mississippi. I hope to leave early tomorrow morning but I'll wait to check the weather and make my decision then.
-
Yes...everyone be super careful the next couple of days, and please keep a close eye on the weather...there is tornado warnings for western Tennessee right now,and that line looks to be heading towards twin oaks maybe? ....yyeesh..what is it with this week every stinking year....pappy needs to pick another week...
Hope y'all stay safe down there to all who go early..n I'm sure there gonna see flash flooding again today n tomorrow...
-
will be heading out wed. morning should be there around 2 or 3 p.m. after all the rain i hope see ya'll there.
-
So I'm riding a grouch across western Nebraska contemplating my rather dubious chances of getting to Tn from here. You don't have to be a genius in geography to know that's the wrong direction from KS to get to the classic. When my boss calls and says that he doesn't have any loads to Tn, but he does have one to Columbus OH and he was fine with me bouncing to Tn from there. Then he asks me if I want it? To which I replied, "Is Miss Dolly well endowed!?!?". He laughed and said have a good time. That my friends is precisely why I bust my hump for the man. You don't find a boss like that just everywhere. I forgot half the stuff I meant to bring and the bow wood I did remember is getting soaking wet in the rain, but even with all that I'm grinning like a 'possum eatin' peanut butter because I get to go! See ya'll in a couple days! Josh
-
That's great news, Josh!! See ya in a few.
-
Good deal Josh. Glad you have an understanding boss. See you in a couple of days.
Stringman, your stave is in the truck ;)
-
Just got confirmation that I can, repeat CAN, make it this year! I'm six hours out and will not be able to leave til 3 PM on Friday, ...but operation "quick trip to TwinOaks" is ON!!! I'll finally get to meet some of you guys IRL...
OneBow
-
We'll wait up for you, OneBow. ;D
-
There might be one or two people up that late ;D
-
What's the weather forecast? Mrs. Owlbait is leaving Wednesday with Mrs. Asbell and I want to get a report from you local guys. Thanks.

Thank you. With all the severe weather I was a bit worried. I've been through a couple of those big storms at Compton's. Great time to pull people together but sure dampens a good event.
-
I'm looking forward to meeting some new people this year. Make sure and look me up. I'll be the short wide guy with a deer skull and broken arrow tattoo on my right arm.
-
Pat B , keep the light on early Thurs. morning for Ole hole in the Bow Chuck and Kevin and myself. See ya guys Thurs morning bright and early. Later Bob
-
Yeah, we should arrive sometime around 4:30-5:30 Thursday morning!
Can't wait!!!

Bob and Kevin, please put the coffee on when you get in so we can have a cup when we wake up. ;)

Hi Pappy,
Just wandered in from a trip. Glad the weather looks like it is gonna be good! We plan to be there on Friday morning. Can't wait. Hope to teach Pat to play his flute...if he has time!
Thanks again...BTW...if you don't play a flute and want to learn let me know!,
Rand and Barbara Rowe
-
Kevin, Chuck and Bob make some extra, I'll be right behind you.
-
I'm bringing my cedar branch flute, Rand. Should I bring the black walnut too?
-
It saddens me to say this, but I will not be attending the Classic this year. Several little wrinkles is life was making it difficult, then a more serious one reared it's ugly face. I knew my tractor had some issues that I needed to deal with. Yesterday I opened the drain plug for the oil pan and antifreeze poured out. So I'll be spending the four days I would have been at the classic, tearing down the tractor to see if it is repairable or needs to be replaced. Either way money saved for my trip to the classic will need to go to the tractor this year. grr
-
Pat and Eddie, Do want me to get into Pappy's special blend tea coffee, ugh >:( :o That stuff will wake ya or kill ya. later Bob

-
Blackhawk, thanks so much for the offer. Besides the money aspect it's also a time thing. Being off those 4 days might give me enough time to get the tractor repaired if it is fixable.

That really blows, Cipriano. I hope Diego gets well and learns that Soccer isn't a manly, American , game. ::) ??? ;D ;) Football, realllll, football. :)
Thanks guys. It was "almost" here this time. I agree Eddie and he is going to play football. His mama doesnt want him to, but he is. Maybe next year.
Cipriano

I thought you would be required by Texas law to have Diego enrolled in football by now?

All good Texas mamas claim that they don't want thier babies to play the real man's sport that is football, ...but deep down inside they really secretly do want them to play and excell at the sport! Once they get on the field, those mamas are in the stands cheering and screaming till they go mute or deaf, ...or BOTH!!! >:D >:D >:D

Man...that's a bummer Dave! I hope your tractor isn't terminal. It's been one helluva rollercoaster ride on whether or not I was gonna get to go. But, I'm unloaded here in the buckeye and I'm pointing the ken-a-bego towards TN. A little over 350 miles and I will be there! Good Lord willing and the creek don't rise! Josh

Well Crap!
Fellers and Gals... I am not going to make the Classic this year.

The tornado that went threw Athens Alabama was quite bad.
My Baptist, Disaster Relief Chainsaw team is being deployed.
We have a lot of work ahead of us.
Ya ll have fun... Stay up to late, Eat to much, Tell tall tails ::), post lots and lots of photos, and build Bows.
I consider many of you folks to be family but...., Sometimes life has to take priority.
Ya ll tell Pappy and GregB that I cant make it.
There is no damage at my home and the power is on.

Half way home to texas. Thank god the traffic is significantly better this time. Was a blast at my first classic, however this first classic hangover is rough......
-
Another classic in the books. It was great to catch up with old friends and make a bunch of new friends. The weather was great, but truth be told when your at twin oaks the weather is irrelevant. I had brought 9 staves to hand out and figured to leave with none. I should have known better. I have twice the pile of wood strapped down to my truck as I showed up with. It was great hanging out in the bow shop and helping where I could. A lot of great bows were made out of so many different bow woods that one could scarcely keep track. With so much going on, I never took one single pic. My apologies to those who didn't get to attend that were counting on pictures. Hopefully everyone else took enough pics to pick up my slack. A great big heartfelt thank you to Pappy, Miss Joanie and the twin oaks club. It was an outstandingly positive experience from the time I pointed the Ken-a-bego through the gate until I left. Thank you so much! Josh

Hope everyone made it home safe.
-
got home about two hours ago had a great time can't wait till next year thanks pappy and all involved for putting a great shoot.
-
Just made it home and unpacked. My son and daughter and I had a great time again this year. Sorry if I didn't get to say hello to many of you but my kids kept me pretty busy shooting most of the weekend. Thanks to the guys in the pit for lending my son some tools so he could make arrowheads. That was his favorite part.
The grounds were in top shape and the weather couldn't have been better for this year as well. Definitely couldn't complain about that. The classic has become a family favorite destination for me and the kids. I'm hoping to get my oldest to come with us next year. Thanks again to everyone who helps make it suck a great time for everyone.
-
Did Bear build a boy this classic? Looks like and awesome time as usual......
-
I dont think he got it completed, but Bear chased a ring on an osage stave and has a good start on a bow.
-
Wow, what a week. Some how each classic is better than the last. I'm not sure how that is possible. A big thank you to Pappy and the Twin Oaks members. I can't imagine how much work you guys do to allow us a week in the greatest place on earth. It is greatly appreciated, thank you.
It is hard to put into words how much of a great time this event is. I was able to put a lot of new faces with usernames this week. I enjoyed talking to the Texas gang. I hope you guys make it back next year. I met an honest to goodness English longbowman. I enjoyed some of the best food I have ever tasted (don't tell the wife I said that). I met the newly weds. Thanks for the warm fire on the long walk back to the truck. I flung a lot of arrows and actually hit a few targets. My favorite shooting rounds were the groin and head shots. We were saving the kill zones for everyone else. I think my favorite part of this years classic was waiting up for Blackhawk to arrive and pulling an all nighter in the bow shop with him. We actually got a lot done and didn't mess anything up. It was something I'll never forget.
A big thanks to everyone who traded with me or gave me gifts. It was fun to see all my new supplies when I unloaded the truck today. A special thanks to Cody for the target and Pappy for the yew stave. I'm glad the holey stave went home with Chuck. That's who it belonged with.

Great pics and agree this is the place to be! I've got to try and get there for the whole week some time because it's there is too much to take in for a three day stay. Weather couldn't have been better and thought I was dreaming since it wasn't a frog choker :D Thank you Pappy and Twin Oaks crew!

The wife ,daughter dogs and I had a blast! This is the first time in 7yrs I have stayed and camped,I will be trying to get down all wk from now on rain or shine. It was great to put some faces with some names and I feel like I made a few new friends. Throwing hawks with the youngman I helped out last year ,and seeing how much improved he is was great. I think my wife is hooked on primitive 3d shooting now. Thanks to Pappy and Twin Oaks!!
As a side note, I may be on to something bringing a canoe as well as rain gear. NO RAIN!!!!!!!!!
Do any of you local guys no a good put in to paddle the RED river there?

-
Got home about 11pm, traffic was real bad like Bill said. had a great time and how about this years weather, Hope everyone made it home safe, I'm tired . Bob
-
Thanks to Pappy, Miss Joanie, the Twin Oaks gang, the meteorologist and everyone involved with this years Classic. It was the best ever! Hard to believe that possible but I is true. Traffic was heavy heading home but didn't flow like it did on my trip there on Tuesday...but I made it home safe and sound.
A special thanks to my weekend neighbors, the honeymooning couple , Darla and Brian that took me to raise with a great breakfast every morning and just great Southern hospitality. You guys are perfect for each other. Thanks guys. You made my time at Twin Oaks even better.
It was great to see and talk to old friends and to meet and talk to lots of new friends. Thanks to everyone that gifted me with such nice gifts and a great time. They are and will be cherished possessions. I'll post pics later.
I'll get all of my pics up sometimes today after I get the cobwebs out of my head. ::) The only drawback I can think of is we have almost a year wait before we can all meet again at Twin Oaks...but it will be worth the wait.
-
It was our pleasure Pat! Darla is already tryin to figure out how she can feed more people next year, lol( no really, she is). Thanks again Pat for that beautiful hhb bow... Brian
-
I'll chime in also,
Thank you Pappy, Miss Joanie and all of the guy's at Twin Oaks!
You all are awesome and very generous for sharing your little slice of heaven with us each year, I can't think of a more special place or group of people.
It is always great to see old friends and meet new ones, this is what I treasure the most! Especially nice to meet JW and Del, what a couple of characters, it was a pleasure spending time and talking with you both!
Can't wait for next year!!!!!
Kevin

Man, I'm still smiling from the good times I had down there. Hanging out with Will H, shooting and running around with Osage Outlaw and Blackhawk, sitting around the camp fire and eating wonderful food with Stringman and Dave, shooting one of missilemaster's sweet bows, talking with Del (He's a hoot and a good storyteller, love the accent), even spent one early morning with Pappy in the kitchen making sausage and biscuits. The Wirwiki's were a pleasure, as always. Meeting the newly weds, swapping stories with Gun Doc, hearing Mississippi Dave's songs, soaking some suds with seabass and BearG, chillin in the pavilion with Tracy and his wife, the list goes on and on. Helping Blackhawk and Gun Doc string up the hemlock warbow was memorable. Met so many wonderful people, I can't remember all of the names, but have lots of good memories.
-
First time at the Classic and had a blast. Everyone you passed would nod or speak. Asked Del one morning if he was enjoying himself and he replied "A cracking time".. ;D, not sure what that meant but I am positive it was a good thing by the smile on his face. My goal was to learn as much as possible in the knapping pit and thanks to Stringman and OutbackBob and several others who would give suggestions and guidance. Even got in the toilet tank competition and was able to finish a point in time.
The people, food, events and evening fireside music all made the trip worth while. Thanks to Pappy and the Twin Oaks members for putting on a great event!
I also didn't think the rain was that bad, what's all the fuss been about every year?

I finally made my first Classic. It was a blast, even though I only got to do a couple days. As has already been mentioned, the weather was PERFECT! The company was even better! I only brought a couple smaller projects to work on since I knew I was going to have such limited time. My main objective was to get to meet in-real-life a few of the guys I know online in the vitual sort of manner.
I have a new project I'm going to have to do in my back yard now. I fell in love with the Cedar post mounted vices in the bow shop. I've been working from a bench for years, ...but that post arrangement was pretty awesome! I'll be on the look out for a suitable cedar log and a big ole vice to mount on it. I may have to contrive some sort of cover for the vice that'll look like a bird bath when it's not in use just to keep the neighbors and the Missus happy with it. >:D
It was a great time. I'm sure I'll be back. My sincere thanx to all those that I'm sure had to do a lot of preliminary work to make the whole event come off so well. The food was GREAT, especially Saturday evening. The facility there is awesome...

From the sounds of it, you all had as good a time as I did! No reason to restate what's already been mentioned, so let me add to the list.
Watched while Derik, John, Josh, and Eric (and girlfriend) left their mark on the spirit wall.
Picking mushrooms beside the trail and then stashing them so we could pick them up later (never did go back for them.)
Listening in while Del and JW coordinate their parts of the story and deciding who would play their roles when it hits the big screen.
Strolling back to camp to the sound of steaks sizzling in the skillet. (Dave is an outstanding cook!)
Gifts from several unexpected directions! - thanks to all of you!
Watching weewicki toddle around camp knowing he was safe no matter who was watchin him.
And of course the evening music by the fire. Might have to bring my harmonicas next year.
I'm grateful to all the twin oaks crew, incluing Pappy and Miss Joanie for the wonderful way you all make us foreigners feel at home. From the moment we arrived to the time we rolled off the gravel we was welcomed, smiled at, and waved to. I know there are other events like this one around the world, but I dare say there are none better. My hats off to you for the effort you all put out to make this special for so many people.
Looking forward to next year...
-
Thanks, Pappy and the Twin Oaks gang for putting on another great show. It gets better every year. Great to see old friends and meet new ones....and to see all the MAJOR LEAGUE bows hanging at the front of the shed. The bows you guys make are outstanding. It is worth the trip just to see them in person.

Got home early this morning. What a blast! Thanks twin oaks for another fantastic year! Cant wait till next time!!! :)
-
My favorite Classic, so far! I posted up on Life is Good, so I won't go on too long. I spent most of the drive thinking about the people and how good everyone is. It is always hard to leave that!
I had an incredible time with you all. I can't wait to do it again.
Thanks to everyone for your generosity and graciousness. Especially, Pappy and the crew and all their hard work.
I have photos I'm going to start to work on, I'll get 'em up shortly!
Be well, my friends. Thanks for such a great time!
-
Hi Pappy,
We sure had a great time! My back gave out on me and we had to head home on Sunday morning. Just wanted to say it was awesome and our friends Carson and June as well as my sweetie Barbara had a wonderful time! The deer haunch on Saturday night was great! Sure hope to be able to make it back next year.

The wife and I had a blast at this years classic, thanks to all of you at Twin Oaks that make this happen. Been home less than 24 hours and missing the place already. I hope you know how special your work is in bringing good people together for a great weekend where lasting friendships are formed. it really is that kinda place.
Was able to meet more great people from the PA community this year and put a face to the names and got to catch up friends from last year as well. Had great camp neighbors in Bill (Danzn Bar) and Howard (H. Rhodes),... my face still hurts from all the laughs we had in camp. Came home with a cool variety of staves collected from across the states by a certain Kansas truck driver, plus a box full of Alabama turkey feathers and a pecan stave from a certain deer & hog stalker. Also got a super nice knife made by one of Twin Oaks very own. On top of all that is the memories we get to bring home, here's some pics we took of the fun.
-
Wow! I hated for it to end. It was a great time and I appreciate everyone that had a hand in it. Special thanks to Badly Bent and family - thanks for taking me in and sharing your fire. I met too many wonderful people to mention. I don't think I have seen a better gathering of such good hearted folks in my life. I will be counting the days till the next one. I appreciate the hard work that went into this event. The Twin Oaks boys are something else. :)

These photos are when I received the two bows I got this trip. First from Auggie is my trade bow and the second is a surprise gift from Pat B. You guys are the best and I appreciate the work and thought you put into the gifts. THANKS.

Nice pics Parnell. Bowtarist did end up in a lot of pics didnt he? Great guy.
-
Nice pictures Parnell. Why does Eddie look nervous in that picture of you and him?
Derik is in so many pictures because he ventured outside of the knapping pit this year.

Gotta mingle and make friends to end up like that. Surprised me too. PBR really gets me out there talkin to folks. ;D ;D ;D dp
I think I was about one day from feral. Back at school now and am not looking forward to the bell ringing in 10 minutes. Thanks again Pappy and Twin Oaks and all that put up w/ my late night ramblings. Twin Oaks and the folks who attend the Classic are the BEST!!!
-
A feral bowtartist would maybe be more than Tenn. woodland ecosystem could handle (grazing in a patch of PBR). I thought they quit making that in 1982 beer snob.
-
Big thanks to Pappy and the crew who put on another amazing event!! I can't wait to bring my daughter next year! And a shot out to this kid who was shooting along and barefoot with homemade equipment!
-
I thought last year was great but it was even better this year with some help from mother nature. What a fantastic group of people and I want to thank all of you for letting a newcomer into your family.
The only mistake that I might have made was bringing the keg of home brew. I was told by several that i'm now the guy with the beer and it will be expected. Lol
I actually love to brew and share it with good people. Next year I will step it up a notch and bring a couple of different types! May even develop a "Twin Oaks Special Brew".
Thank you Pappy and the Twin Oaks team for putting this event together.

First weekend in May.
Forest_Farmer, good to meet you and yes it is expected of you from now on to bring that cool refreshing tasty brew. I even put down the PBR for a cup or two of that and I'm a beer snob. ;) It was a pleasure my man!! dp
-
Ya'll sure put on a good shoot and a good show. I am grateful and impressed.
Thanks for all the hard work Pappy, Joanie and the Twin Oaks folks, and thanks for letting us enjoy your place. That is a fine place.
I appreciate too Miss Tomi letting me go with her, and sharing all of the good times.
Good courses, food and times, and most of all, memories. I shot a bunch, and enjoyed every minute.

yeah rob...that kid has stuck with me....wishin i wouldve started all this stuff at his age...man he was too cool !! forgot you took his pic.

Did the curly Osage bow get finished?
I heard about it, but had forgotten until I saw the pic posted above.
-
I got it tillered out but it seemed like the wood was still wet. I shot it on the practice bails and it was sluggish. I'm working on drying it out.
-
Get some pictures Osage Outlaw when you can on the bow section...glad you got it shaped into a bow.
-
I will post it when I get it finished. I'm not sure if the wood is going to be good for selfbows. It is heavy and waxy feeling. I might use the rest of it for knife handles or maybe F-glass bows (http://rabbittalk.com/images/smilies/icon_mad.gif)

Wow, just popped over to this thread... hadn't seen it before. More great pics and stories. It really give a feel for the buzz about the place.
I'd better get off my backside and write the story from the new boy Brit's perspective.
Now remind me, what time is it? :o
By the way, I got a nice bonus final view of the USA...
We were on the tarmac at JFK waiting for take off, I looked out the window, across the water to where the sun was setting behind the Manhattan skyline. It was a beautiful sight contrasting nicely with the wooded valley of Twin Oaks... I bet you guys know which place I'd rather be tho'
A big thanks to every one of you who made me feel so welcome.

So nice to see some faces that I remember well. It sure looks like a great time was had by all, but how could you not enjoy Pappy's, Miss Joanine's and all the Twin Oak Crew. They sure do bring the meaning to Southern Hospitality to Life. Thanks for everyone that shares pictures for those of us who could not make it.

Hi, great pics ;D.
I tried to PM you but your inbox is full ::)
Can I borrow a couple to post on my blog? IMG 0063 and 64
One to show how you guys hit the kill zone, and one showing some of the guys.
I know I met you, but I can't put the face to the user name and of course we mostly take pics with other people in.
We need a rogues gallery with real names, user names, and faces.

Thanks guys for all your kind words about Twin Oaks and all our Bunch. After reading all the post and knowing everyone had a great time , it makes us feel so proud to call you our friends and family. As I have said before it's like a Big Family Reunion with every one gathered to have fun, food, and make lots of memories. We look forward to seeing each and every one next year. Thanks again for making the trip to our 17th Tennessee Classic .....Joanie :)

Well said Miss Joanie. ;) :) :)

Miss Joanie and Pappy, I thank you so much for your gift from the classic. Pat is sending it now. I will add and wear it with my other memories of both of you and Twin Oaks. Thank you so very very much... ;)

Thanks to Pappy, Miss Joanie & all of the Tenn. Bowhunters crew. I had a great time & felt as if I were at home the momoent that I made it to the shed & camping area. With the help of all of the experienced guys that were there to help, even when in a rush between helping others, I was able to learn & build my crack in the hole bow. A special thanks to (the real) Pat B for the one on one help & putting up with me picking his brain for all the information that my little mind could not hold. I was glad to finally put faces with the handles used on the PA board. I met a lot of great people & made some good friends. ;)

Some of the Texas crew that drove 14+ hours to get to the Classic. Left to right, Chris, Erik (4Dog), and Jason (me) holding the longbow I made at the classic. We had a blast, I'm currently formulating a plan to make it back next year. Hopefully I can stay longer next time, 2 Days just isn't enough.
-
Next year please kidnap Diego and Cipriano to bring along.
You boys sure got your share of the good times, I saw the grins on your faces! Good meeting you and putting faces to the usernames.
-
It was nice meeting you guys. Hope to see the Texas gang back at next years Classic.

I just moved down to Atlanta so this is the first time I've been on in a few months. First Classic I've missed in 5 years so I enjoyed going through the thread. My boy was upset that he didn't get to go too. Can't wait to go next year. Just another 11 months or so :o
-
Hey, Jeff, how have you been? had to get back to the South, did ya? ;D
-
Welcome back Jeff. I was wondering if you were gonna make the Classic this year and missed you not being there. Looking forward to seeing you next year. Welcome back South. 8)

Thanks Eddie and Pat.....I tried, but just couldn't take any more yankee land. The winter broke me for good on ever wanting to be around snow again. I told my wife we are not allowed to complain about heat for at least 2 summers. I won some awards at work so had my pick of assignments and leaped at the chance for Atlanta. I'm certain this will be my final move for a long time. I can't wait to get to see everyone again next year.

I don't blame you, Jeff. Those Chicagoland winters broke me, too. I don't complain about the heat, I just put on my swimtrunks, flips, and turn on a fan!!! They can keep it!

Up here we say the weather keeps the riff-raff out. >:D
Works pretty good, huh?
