I gotta do this.
-
Yep you do! Plannin to be there myself.
-
Is this like ojam or mojam?
-
I think so sleek, never been there myself but hope to make it to a classic one day. Patrick
-
I'm coming this year. I'll be driving in from Tx. 8)
-
Load up the truck and bring all them Tex boys!
-
Never been to Ojam or Mojam so can't say I will tell you their is lots of bow building /napping going on and a ton of other things, and a tournament going on all at the same time, don't want to compair to any other events but I feel sure if you like the kind of stuff that goes on here you will like the Classic.we have probably the biggest showing of folks from the PA forum of any event in the country. Hope you decide to make it. Pappy
-
What's the dates for the classic this year? Patrick
-
Never mind, guess I should have read the first post! Patrick
-
Hope you can make it this year Patrick, Scott I like the post you deleted, ;) she would like that also. ;) :) :)
Pappy
-
I'm hoping to be there this year -keeping My fingers crossed. Bob
-
I am putting in for my vacation today. Can't think of a better way to spend a week. Can't wait!
-
The problem with going to the Classic is once you go you have to come back. Just like building wood bows, you just can't make one! ;)
Meeting PA folks is one of my favorite parts of the Classic. Do a search and check out the past few Classics.
Bob McMinn and I should be there on Tuesday, April 28
-
I'm hoping to be there on Monday or Tuesday. Wouldn't miss it for anything
-
I hope to be there early again this year. Maybe the Saturday before the Classic, kinda beat the crowd to the good camping spots.
-
Make sure and save us one, Greg. Pretty sure Dave and I are coming down Weds.
-
Thanks Pappy, I'll see what I can do with work. If I can come it would probably be on Friday afternoon before I could get there. It's only 6 hours from my house. Patrick
-

:o Clint .. only there one or two days!! ;D ;D
I'm trying to work it to be there Wednesday, if Badly Bent will save me a spot on top, a little quieter late night up there for this old guy :) ;)

I think I'll grab some rock, swing by & pick Sasquach up,& head that way. I am a lil better w/ stone than I am w/ wood.
-
Hope you make it, Don. Would love to break rock with ya!
-
Make sure and save us one, Greg. Pretty sure Dave and I are coming down Weds.

Greg, save enough room next to you and Scott for my tent please.
-
Great news Tower, lots of great napping going on over that week. :) That is a bad neighbor hood you are moving into Clint ;) :) :)

You'll prob see me there because I just can't bear the thought of not being there ;D
The wife expressed interest in taking the whole fam, but that's yet to be decided ???
-
Two of my brothers ask me about going at our Christmas gathering so looks like I will be headed your way Pappy with company WOOHOOO !
Don't know their schedules yet but anytime there is good with me
See ya then

I'm totally in as of right now, central NY to Tennessee! I'm bringing so wood as well as what else I gather. If I actually make it down(I have bud luck) I was thinking of donating a ERC atave, still wet but it's clear as clear can be
-
Definitely gonna try to make it again this year. ;D
-
It will be soooo kewl to meet so many of the folks on PA and be able to say "THANK YOU" in person!

THIS IS AWESOME!!!! I have been in the Navy a little over 20 years and have never been able to make it to this. I'm getting ready to transfer off my submarine to my neXt duty station and figured before I pick my date I'll check the date for the TN classic. Low and behold the dates line up perfectly!!!! Might even get there a few days early!!! CAN'T WAIT!!!
-
Does it cost anything to get in or camp? I basically plan on parking my car hanging a tarp in a tree, and learning as much as I can
-
Bruce, it costs $20 to sign up for the shoot but with that entry fee camping is free. Entertainment is free too! ;D
-
Its lookin like my chances of makin it this year are slim at best..😞😞😞.. Brian
-
Thanks pappy, I'm sure I'll have some more questions for ya
-
That's too bad Bryan. At least send Carla to take care of me. ;D
-
sounds great Dave! This will be a great break for ya, and believe me when I say this group has a lot of respect for our veterans.
Bruce the tarp idea will be fine (I know several have slept in hammocks,) just be prepared for weather. Normally rain is in the forecast, and last year we learned that it can get cold in them thar hills as well!
-
Its lookin like my chances of makin it this year are slim at best..😞😞😞.. Brian
Well that stinks. I enjoyed visiting with you guys and warming up at your fire on my way back to camp. Hope things work out for you to make it.
-
Hopefully Bryan Irwin and I will make it again. Keep a seat in the "Knapping Pit" warm for me.
-
If I could make it this year I would be so happy! I need to bring a driver so I can study on the way down and the way back. >:D
-
Brian I hope it works out, yall would really be missed. :( Ryan that sounds like a great idea a driver YA!!. Navy Dave that is good news, be sure and look me up, I ant hard to find usually. ;) :)
Pappy
-
I sure hope to make it but if life hits me one more time Im not sure I can get back up, lol.... Brian
-
There 8 a pretty good chance I'll be there with my youngest son and daughter again this year. I think they would get mad if I didn't take em. I might even get to come earlier this year!
Ryan you could always have your sister drive.
-
Me and my LITTLE brother are already making plans. ;D
-
I am going to do everything I can to be there. A friend and I are biking coast to coast starting early April in Va. I am hoping that has us going through your part of Tennessee the beginning of May. Wont be able to bring any wood or tools though! ::)

Dang Cody! Couldn't you think of anything a little more adventurous? Maybe a little more challenging? Coast to coast! Whew, more power to ya. Keep us posted.
-
Cody, you can borrow some of my tools. I'm sure there won't be a shortage...
-

There never is! just a shortage of instructors!

Seems like I do remember shooting a round with two sleep depraved zombie bowyers. :D As I recall, one tried repeatedly to hit the x ring on a 55 gallon drum. Hilarious! >:D

-
I'm up for it again. That was a fun night and interesting next day from what I remember. I swear there was a kill zone on the barrel ;D You can't hardly kill a good bamboo arrow. It took a lake and a couple more steel barrels at Marshall before it finally broke Greg.
-
I'll be there, I'm a night owl. I'm gonna ainew this bow soon and try and finish it at the classic. SOooOoo anyone that wants to "help" tiller it is appreciate it

-
Those last few stories around the fire late at night are pretty interesting ;D
-
To old for al nighters anymore, I have done a few of them at the Classic before that is for sure and many many 1 hourers, ;) ;D ;D ;D I will be up early and make you boys some coffee and if it is Friday/Saturday or Sunday morning Breakfast. ;) :) :) Really looking forward to it as usual :). Cody I hope it works out for you to come by. :)
Pappy
-
Got the wood supply back up where it needs to be for the Classic, they burn a lot of wood at this event. ;) :)
Pappy
-
Keep Chuck out of your stash! :D
-
Ya Greg that isn't much over a weeks worth for him, good news is a lot is still green so it will burn slower for him. ;) :) :) :)
Pappy
-
That's about a nights worth for Mr. Davis ;). Bob
-
Yep Gary pulls a lot of late night's at the Classic and else where from my experience with him. ;) :) :) We have more to cut but a lot closer than we were, they really hit us hard at the Classic ,we supply wood to all the camps and if the weather is clear [no rain] hope hope prayers/fingers crossed/sacrifice Osage/ and anything else that might make that happen. ;) :) it takes a lot of wood, seems most everyone that comes/camps loves a camp fire as much as we do. :)
Pappy
-
3 MORE MONTHS!!!!!!! 8)
-
Thanks Chris,already getting excited. :)
Pappy
-
I might try to make this shoot. I have heard it's a good one. :)
David
-
;) :) :) I might even try and save a bed for you Dave, ;) :) :) He and Jon are family to me and accuse me of throwing them out of the Cabin when the Classic rolls around. ;) :)
Pappy
-
Doesn't matter where or if I sleep Pappy, as long as I'm there. :) Looking forward to it. Might just do like I told you the other morning and come down for the week before to get that lighting done for ya and maybe chase a turkey or two.
David
-
That sounds like a good plan to me, I will be there from the Friday a week before till the Monday after. ;) :)
Pappy
-
can't wait counting the day's
-
I SOOO wish I could go! My mom lives in Clarksville and I'm probably visiting the weekend after this event, but I've got finals that week so can't come sooner :(
-
Sorry to hear that Eli !
-
Holler when you come in E. I am usually around, probable still be cleaning and straighting up. ;) :) :) Looking forward to see you bryan and Guy I hope, keeping my fingers crossed for that. ;) :)
Pappy
-
Well...it's official, no classic for me. :'( Momma burnt up the engine in my pickup yesterday >:( My cash stash will be required to repair/replace it. Ya'll have fun. Josh
-
Way too early for that decision, Josh. Time heals all wounds! 8)
-
Ah man! >:( That is not good news. Hope you end up being there Josh.
-
Ouch Josh
Hope you come up with a better plan than that
Still hope to see ya there!!!!
-
Hate to hear that Josh! Not sure if I will be able to make it either. Finances are really tight myself. But we will see in the next couple months. Patrick
-
Man that is tough Josh,[what kind of vehicle/motor] hope things change, also hope it works out for you Patrick, man I thought the last word I heard on TV was all was get better for everyone, ??? hope and change was really kicking in :o ??? :-\ ;) well at least Gas is down [ for now ] and it don't cost much after you get there. ;)
Pappy
-
hope and change was really kicking in :o ??? :-\ ;)
Haa!
-
Hope and change indeed! Good one Pappy! The pickup is an f-150 with the 5.4 triton. I'm gonna pull the heads when i get home and decide whether its prudent to overhaul it or get a longblock. I could get by cheaper with a salvage motor, but I've been burnt before on those. Thanks for the condolences fellas. Josh
-
Good luck with it Josh, I am with you on Junk yard motors, sometimes it works out good and sometime it don't, been bit enough it's hard for me to go that rout anymore, especially with these late model vehicles so many times if nothing else the on board computer don't want to sink up and cost a bunch just to get that part working, technology ,got to love it. ??? >:( :)
Pappy
-
Well...it's official, no classic for me. :'( Momma burnt up the engine in my pickup yesterday >:( My cash stash will be required to repair/replace it. Ya'll have fun. Josh
Talk about irony! What did we JUST talk about man! Sorry for the bad luck trucker.
-
Yeah....I should've knocked on wood or something. Lol! Josh
-
Well...it's official, no classic for me. :'( Momma burnt up the engine in my pickup yesterday >:( My cash stash will be required to repair/replace it. Ya'll have fun. Josh
And I figured we'd finally meet ... DANG!
-
It's never a sure thing Knoll, last year he didn't think he was going to make it until a week or 2 before, he is likely to wind up with a load that just happens to come by Twin oaks. >:D ;) :) :) Won't be the first time that has happened with Josh. :) We can hope anyway. ;)
Pappy
-
^^ (bet he meant "load") >:D >:D
-
^^ (bet he meant "load") >:D >:D
most likely but with Pappy and The Tennessee Classic you just never know!
Good folks all the way around .
-
Yep meant Load ;) :) :) Thank Stringman, Guy hope you are staying warm up North. :) It's cold here I know it has to be really, really, cold up that way. :)
Pappy
-
I am just about froze fast Pappy
Hope you get it warmed up down there before I get there , I need some sun shine !
With my new plan for living ( Diet ) I lost 50 lbs last year and the only thing not good about that is I am cold ! no insulation at all ,but I am doing soo much better in others areas that I am OK with that
See ya in what like 10 weeks !
Where is Bear with or count down anyway , how am I supposed to keep track ?
-
There is always that possibility Pappy. I won't be able to spend 3 or 4 days like I usually do, but Saturday is better than nothing if it should work out that way. Josh
-
Man, I can't wait! I had so much fun last year, I am making it a point not to miss another one.
-
Things are looking like I will be able to be there this year again. Likely not for the whole shindig, ...but we'll get some time in.
OneBow

Well with this extra work with the snow looks like I may be able to go with you as well. At least I will have the extra time to take off! Patrick
-
I'll be bringing my wife and daughter this year! Though we'll stay in some near by hotel; one mountain at a time. ;) Any hotel recommendations?
-
I'm still planning on coming. Gonna pack as much Osage as I can in my little car. Trying to make some gas money. I plan on bringing something for the table as well
-
I'll be bringing my wife and daughter this year! Though we'll stay in some near by hotel; one mountain at a time. ;) Any hotel recommendations?
My first year at the Classic we stayed in the Holiday Inn in town. It was OK. A vehicle in the parking lot was broken into and some items stolen.
-
I'll be bringing my wife and daughter this year! Though we'll stay in some near by hotel; one mountain at a time. ;) Any hotel recommendations?
Rob...cool to see ya bringing the fam....get a tent n a couple air mattresses...it ain't that bad to sleep on those honestly...plus they have the hot showers there for free....this isn't very rough camping as ya know, and there prob thinking its gona be all woodsy, dirty, bugs etc...but that ain't the case there as ya know. If ya set up on top in the grass its basically like camping in a yard next to a bunch of other cool folks for some good mingling amongst everybody. That's part of the classic experience not to be missed IMO.
-
Hey guys. Chris, I agree with ya but I'm still amazed she agreed to go at all. One miracle at a time. Maybe I'll sway her by the time of the classic. I did buy the same tent you have and an air mattress so it's hardly roughing it IMO.
I've been giving a new bowyer at my club some tips as he created his first selfbow. Reminded me of my early lessons with you. Playin it forward. Good times! He may be interested in buy a stave off you soon. I'm trying to get a few more guys interested and maybe start a selfbow division at my club shoots.
Looking forward to seein yinz all in TN!
-
Sounding good, Rob you can check our web site [twinoaksbowhunterswordpress.com] and it has all the local motels, they have all been remolded but Of course I haven't stayed in any of them so can't say for sure, haven't heard anything real bad and mostly good.
Pappy

Where's the countdown? Come on Bear! Get your rear in gear man! >:( ??? ;) :)
-
Where's the countdown? Come on Bear! Get your rear in gear man! >:( ??? ;) :)
Ya Bear what he said
Good to hear ya got some Pappy time Gun Doc
we could all use some of that for sure
-
Can't wait to see all of you guys again. I'm bringing my two boys, Dad and two brothers. What a great place to bring the family...full of great people. Jon
-
Can't wait to see them boys again Jon, bet they have grown a foot. ;) :)
Pappy
-
Just got some good news, James/Becca and family are planning on making it back this year, James wanted to see if he could have his same spot back, of course he can. ;) :) :) We have missed them the last couple of years. :) Hope the ice melts soon, got lots to do. :)
Pappy
-
Yes that is good news, Pappy. I spoke with James a couple of weeks ago and he mentioned it. Looking forward to some campfire time with my pal.
-
James told me he and his hoard were coming this year too. So glad to hear that. 8)
-
Be good to see them
Hope you have a little space for me in that gen area too !
-
How much room do you need Guy/you setting up to sell/trade or just camping ?
Pappy
-
Do we just set up anywhere or is there actual camping sites? I'll be in the building shed most of the time.
-
Hang too close to Clint and you may just be ther all night! >:D
Camping "spots" are first come, first served. Everything is primitive, but some do setup popup type campers. Others swing in hammocks. Whatever suits ya.
-
I got a cot and a tarp. And a car if need be
-
We'll squeeze you in somewhere, Bruce. ;) When are you planning to get there?
-
Ok, looks like things are on the ups for me. May be able to make it after all. But probably only Friday and Saturday and what ever Sunday. Shooting to leave after work on Thursday. Hopefully Onebowwonder will be with me too! Patrick
-
I'm hoping Friday. I'm leaving Thursday, 15hrs
-
Things change quick... Now it looks like my wife Lara will be coming along too! This will necessitate us staying in a motel (she's already booked it) and I'll miss the camping, but who sleeps at these things anyway(?)... We'll get in on Friday morning and leave out sometime Sunday afternoon.
OneBow
-
I guess I just have to meet you there Onebow! Since you decide to go with the girls! >:D Patrick
-
Very cool, looking good for now. Seems as usual it is all coming together. Sounds like I may need more parking/camping. Buffalo2 we have several from NY that come, just up above Buffalo,Little over 12 for them. Where are yall from Patrick/onebowonder ? :)
Pappy

I might have to try to stay up with you guys. But, you know I'm usually in bed by 10 PM. What night do you think you might try this all-nighter thing?
-
Heck Dave I didn't know they ever slept. :-\ I leave late and back out early and they always seem to be there. :-\ ??? Must nap in the daytime. ;) :D :D
Pappy
-
Man I can't wait. Hopefully I can get this sinew on this bow so it's ready for tinkering when I get there. I need a little guidance if anyone's up for the job ;0)
-
Pappy, Onebow and I are from Springfield, Missouri! There is a possibility that I may have 2 to 3 guys coming with me too! Patrick
-
2 MORE MONTHS!!!! 8)
-
Very cool Patrick, can't wait either Chris. ;) :)
Pappy
-
I had to miss last year because I was moving. Looks like the stars are aligned to go this year. Can't wait!
-
It will be great to see you again, Jeff.
-
Man I can't wait. Hopefully I can get this sinew on this bow so it's ready for tinkering when I get there. I need a little guidance if anyone's up for the job ;0)
Bruce, we'll certainly help you along. Looking forward to it myself.
-
Thanks man, I plan on it this weekend. I was having trouble with my tips, it started as a longbow, I wasn't feeling it so I cut it down and recurves the tips. They're rather thin. I was gonna glue something on the underside and it kept popping off. The tips are pretty wide still. So my plan is to taper the limb a bit more and then I can narrow the tips. I believe the statics will hold fine.
-
Hey!
Nashville resident here who just discovered the wonder that is the OHBC in Hermitage and Twin Oaks and the Classic in Clarksville.
I've been wanting to get into archery for the last six months or so and right after Christmas I picked up a PSE Kingfisher, but I'm looking into a traditional self bow here pretty soon. I actually live less than two miles from Old Hickory Bowman Club in Hermitage, which has made it really easy to get some serious practice time in these last nine or so weeks.
I went to my first 3D shoot there in January and met a bunch of guys who told me about this forum and the Tennessee Classic, which I will definitely be at. I don't know if I'll budget enough to pick up a stave and make a bow but I'm definitely in for the camping.
I actually had a question about that. What's the best time to get up there to get a good spot. I was going to take off work Thursday through Sunday but I didn't know if I could come up Thursday morning or if I needed to come up Wednesday evening.
Looking forward to meeting a lot of you!
-
The official days are Friday, Saturday and Sunday but some get there the weekend before. I plan to get there on Tuesday. You should still get a good spot on Thursday. Plan on getting in on the "Selfbow Challenge". When you go home on Sunday you will have a shooting bow and will have competed with other first time Selfbow Challenge bowyers. You will love the Tenn. Classic!
-
Thanks Pat, and amateurhour If it was me I would come Wed. evening, things tend to fill pretty quick later in the week, also you need to come down the 21/22 of March to our open 2 day, we have several from OHBC make that one. Roy Dunken for one always make any thing we have that we allow his equipment. :-[ Come see us.

-
Cipriano won a bow I donated last year by giving someone else money for tickets.
-
It does have a way of testing your friendship a bit. ::) :-\ ;D
-
Beautiful Pat. :) Little less than 2 months. :)
Pappy
-
What's up with the countdown? Bear is gonna get fired! ??? ;) OK bad Chris, you can do it. I would, but I grew up in Kentucky, ya know, the whole counting thing don't come easy in cold weather. :)

Please put something archery related for the subject
-
That is an awesome raffle gift. we are planning on going this year. It will be our first time. I will have to buy some tickets.....
-
Look forward to meeting you Shane, be sure and look me up, I won't be hard to find, maybe hard to catch but not hard to find. ;) :) only about 6 weeks and we can get this thing rolling. :)
Pappy
-
Getting a raffle ticket for Pat's beautiful set alone is more than enough incentive to come to the Classic. Here's another one going on the raffle table, get yourself a ticket for this one as well, who knows, you may win 'em both. :)
Northern community bow, a collective effort of Blackhawk, Misslemaster, Paulsemp, Stringman, Pearl Drums and myself.

Looks like I'm going to be buying more tickets. That's a top notch list of bowyers that worked on that one. Nice work guys.
-
I'll be buying a few tickets for this beauty. 8)
-
Me 2! Very nice bow. I really like that it was made by all of you guys. Every one of the fellas listed have thought me a lot through this forum. It would be really cool to own this bow! Patrick
-
I will be buying a chance at that Northern Community Bow! It really turned out great guys. There was some real talent unleased on that stick of wood.
-
Josh, I'm a Ford truck man from wayyyy back, sorry for your luck, but that 5.4 is a piece of crap, also got a a friend that works on them, his idea is to buy a crate motor and swap em out, it is the high dollar end, but cheaper if you keep the truck. My personal is a 1996 F-150 with a 302, great engine, tough truck.
Johnny
-
Yep hard to beat 302/289/351 all tough and bullet proof so I guess Ford decide not to make them anymore cause then you don't need to buy another for a long long while ??? ;).Man that Northern bow is a beauty ,lots of talent in on that one, you guys know yall sure didn't have to do that but it is very very much appreciated as I hope you all know. :) :)

My vacation has been submitted & accepted. I'll be headed up that way on Thursday with Nathaniel (Sasquach). I'm new to bow building, but I know how to break a rock or two. It's going to be great to put a few names to some faces.
-
Man I sure am pumped to go, I realized I dot have a primitive rig ATM. Will u guys still let me play with yas
-
Well I have to add my 2cents! I was a Ford guy my whole life, anything before 96. But the 302 in my experience all but equal to the 300 in line 6.the only difference is the 300 is missing 2 cylinders. But it's bullet proof! And my favorite motor.
The v 6 they went to in 96 is an absolute gutless piece of crap in my experience.
On the other hand, the classic is only about 5 weeks away, and I can't wait! Patrick
-
Yep you can play , ;) :) Great news Tower, glad it is working out, By the way for you KY. flintworks comes now and then, don't think he was there last year but I know he was there the year before and several more years. It is closing in fast, can hardly wait. ;) :) :)
Pappy
-
Got a call from 3 more vendors yesterday that is 17 so far/Jim with Reparrow [cool product] BlackWidow bows and JJ's knives out of Iowa, makes file knives at a very good price. ;) :) May run out of room before I run out of vendors. ;) :) :)
Pappy
-
Little over 5 weeks, man this is closing in on me fast, I better get to work. :)
Pappy

Pappy good news
My younger brother talked work out of an extra day so you should see the three of us roll in Thursday Eve. instead of Friday
My older brother said now if we could just get the other brother to go all us boys could be together on a camp out ,just like old times, I told him that is unlikely but give it a try
any way be good to see y'all
Guy

Like usual life comes up, so now I don't know if its in the cards. We'll see :'(lol

Mostly it's the gass money. I got the time. But getting married apparently killed my tax return.
-
What is the best area to camp that is relatively quiet at night? Trying to make my wife's first experience as positive as possible. Thanks! ;) :D
-
Its usually pretty quiet in the camping area by 10 pm. Not so much around the bow building shed and knapping pit.
-
I got a bunch of Osage I'm gonna try selling some to make some money for the trip. We'll see, where could I try? eBay?
-
Well I posted a couple staves in various places. If anyone is interested I could point ya that way. PM me
-
Well I think I may be able to finagle my way into the Classic this year. Just got back from OJAM and talked to the wifee poo about taking a bachelor trip in a few weeks and she said I could get the kitchen pass. We took everything but the kitchen sink when I took her and I think I will travel light this time. Cot, buffalo rug, pop up canopy and my cooler full of canned pork chops. >:D
Oh and of course a bow or two. Maybe even a roughed out stave that I can finish off there as well. I will keep ya'll posted as it gets close. Unless something comes up I will be there. Wouldn't be bad if I can get a tag teamer to ride up. Talked to JonW at OJAM and he might be able to go. I was a little foggy a few nights and can't remember some of what we talked about ;D so I better double check with him to see if he can get off. I suppose if there is anyone in this neck of the woods that wants to double up the drive, I'm in southern Kansas just off the Ok border so lemme know.
-
Hope it works out Blaflair, JohnW usually makes it, hope he can again this year along with you sidewinder. PA Hunter it is usually pretty quite up top also. :) I try to keep it as calm as possible in the camping areas, like Pat said not so much up at the napping pit/bow area. Nothing out of hand just lots of loud talking/laughing saws running and rock breaking. ;)
Pappy
-
Im looking for a ride/partner to ride down with...Anyone coming thru Pittsburgh on weds or thurs that wants to pick my sorry arrogant rearend up would be awesome...I can't do it solo this year. If I can't hook up with someone I prob won't make it. :-\
-
Sidewinder, I'm up in springfield, MO area. I'm headed to the classic myself. Going solo right now but maybe with one or possibly 2 undecided guys. Got a 4 door truck with a bed lid should have plenty of room. That is if you want to make it to springfield Thursday evening. Patrick
-
I'll be coming solo also. Bob McMinn's wife has a surgery scheduled at that time. I should be there on Tuesday by noon. Chris, if you want to meet me in Asheville Tuesday morning you can ride with me. ;D
-
Mostly it's the gass money. I got the time. But getting married apparently killed my tax return.
... Same here....we ended up filing married but seperate....put an additional $1400 in my pocket 👍 and completely legal..... Brian
-
I talked to the wifey, were only gonna be able to swing one trip this year. And that will be with everyone. I can't take the only vacant for myself. Next year. Gonna start my saving fund now! Lol. Hope yall enjoy ur selves.
-
If ya don't make it Chris maybe we can figure somewhere for some folks to gather
-
I am a new member to this forum and would really like to attend the Tennessee Classic next month. I do have a few questions about it:
1) Wood needed....is 1"X2"X 80" about the right size of wood that I need to bring?
2) Best wood to bring......Osage,hickory, oak, etc? Not sure where to find osage
3) Food....Does everyone just bring their own food supplies?
4) Other supplies.....do we need anything else such as bow string, leather for bow, etc.
-
Sorry about that Blaflair, maybe next year. Chris you we can't do with out you hope you can find a ride :) CJDore Not sure what you plan on building, there are plenty of staves there to buy or trade for also along with strains/material to make strings and leather, bring what you want or have or you can get it there, any wood that will make a bow is fine. We have concession running Friday morning through Sunday with breakfast and lunch. Before that you are on your own. :) You should also know, not sure some new folks do that this is a Traditional archery shoot going on with bow building thrown in the mix, so making bows is not nearly all that is going on so you will want to bring a bow and some arrows also. :) About a month away.
Pappy
-
This time next month I will be west bound out I40, hammer down! Can't wait.
-
Who's plannin the boil?
-
Stringman, I've been waiting for about a month prior to see if Cracker was going to pipe up on the boil. I did it last year so suppose, its time to get it started. I'll begin a new thread on the boil.
-
Sounds good Matt.
-
How about another "fried night" too. That one we had a few years ago was pretty special too.
-
Works for me, Pat. Are you volunteering to coordinate that one?
-
I'd be willing to help. ::)
-
You know I will help unless we are rebuilding a bridge or some other disaster comes up , ;) might even have some meat to throw in, We will have to do that on Tuesday or Wed. if we plane on doing it. :-\ Looking pretty good around there now, we still have a lot of little things to do but maybe now that our open shoot is out of the way we can get to work on my list, the guys just love my list of to do's, they call it the infamous list form H#%% it's only 2 1/2 pages this year so that should make them happy unless I think of something else and I am sure I will. :o ;) :) See some of y'all in a month and other just over a month. :) :)
Pappy
-
Can't wait, the wife is taking a traveling job and she starts on April 1st. So I will have nothing to do but get ready for the classic. Well I guess work gets in the way a little. Patrick
-
I had about 5 lbs of venison sausage I was gonna bring, now I'm gonna have to eat it all myself O:)
Next year...
-
We nailed down our departure date last night, gonna take advantage of the Twin Oaks Gangs hospitality and come into camp early. Should there sometime on wed. afternoon and staying into sun. Really looking forward to getting back there and seeing all the good P.A. folks again.
-
That's great Greg, got you some wood stacked in you spot already. :) If it is more than you need you can share. :)
Pappy
-
Got my roll dog for the trip lined up today. Mike Miller is going for sure and he's calling Jimmy in the morning to see if its 3. All we need is a 30x30 spot somewhere near the action. Tell us what kind of meat and how much we should bring. We got plenty. Pork, bambi, angus, or coon.
-
Thanks Pappy, that will lighten my load for the trip down if I don't have to bring firewood. You guys are the best. :)
-
Greg, don't forget that you will be hauling some firewood back to Cody ;)
-
Hey guys leave me a little spot  I will be rolling in late Thursday night / early Friday morning. Might have a couple others with me to. Don't need much, just a place to pitch a tent and maybe room for some cooking utensils. Patrick
-
Pappy, any word on room for a vendor?
-

Pappy thanks for the reply. I am new to the archery sport and do not currently have a primitive bow. I was hoping to craft one at this event and shoot it by Sunday. Hope to meet you and see everyone there. BTW....I would like to craft a bow like this one......

CJ, if you can't find a way to work on a bow there, YOU JUST AIN'T TRYIN'!
Between the shop space, tools and materials, and amazingly patient expert guidance, it's a no-brainer. Have fun, have a lot of fun!

Ok it's set I will be there late Thursday night midnight or after probably. Some mark me a tent sight please! Patrick

There was talk of it last year but it never got off the ground. If people want to I was thinking about doing a Trade Blanket on Saturday afternoon at 2 till 3. One hour long. :) be sure to buy a burger and a drink when you visit the Swap ;) If the weather is good it will be somewhere over in the grass area on the left as you come down the drive. If it's raining, under the covered area on the picnic tables I'll get a sign posted up if folks want to do it. About all that's needed is a place and a time. Bring something to trade and a blanket if you have several items, or walk around with your one time in hand a swap as you can.
Just an idea I was kicking around.
-
Sounding good, got another call from central PA seem there is 2 more coming from there, meeting some friends from New Jersey and Columbus OH. and caravanning down. Chris with all the folks from PA. coming we are sure looking for you. ;) :) Just get a sign that says going to the Classic and get out on the road, ??? problem solved. :) Jon sounds like a good idea always wanted to do that, seems people like it but never had the time. :)
Pappy
-
Great idea Jon!
-
Sleek ,remind me again on what you are selling and how big a spot you need, getting old and have a lot on my mind right now so I tend to forget. I am really full but may be able to squeeze in one more. ;) :)
Pappy
-
A trade blanket is a great idea. What are the rules gonna be...Just trading or is selling ok?
-
Really looking like I'm going to make it this year. Like Patrick it will probably be late Thursday night but better than nothin. I don't know if the kids are coming with me or not. I may try and travel on the cheap and kids are expensive pets. Plus you all in the concession stand kept feeding my daughter soda and candy when I wasn't looking. >:D
-
Its always fun to give other peoples kids mountain dew and chocolate and then watch them get crazy hyper
Dave. ;D
-
Id be selling Damascus steel knives. 280 layers, rockwell 58, 1095 and 15n20 steel. Patric owns one of them. Maybe he can post a pic I have none. My boss makes them down to folding his own steel. If no room its no big deal, its just a thought. Haven't made plans or anything yet.
-
Sleek We can probably slip you in somewhere, let me know in as much advance as you can and we will try and work it out. Ya I love feeding kid candy . ;)

-
Nice PA! Get's the gut aching for The Classic.
-
@Pappy, might want to give it a 2nd try sometimes it takes a bit to process. If youtube askes to install a new version of flash or something you may need to do that.
@Chris, you're always welcome here bud but all 4 seats of my truck are currently spoken for. Maybe you can lay down in the bed on the bows. :( :-\ I'll let you know if anything changes.
-
Man Chris Maybe you should quit being the bad Chris! >:D >:D
Call some of the New Yorkers Maybe they would stop by for you
Hope you catch a ride

Pappy

If you lived closer to me here in Springfield MO. I would pick you up and you could ride down with me. I would hate to see anyone miss the classic, just because they don't have a ride. Hope you find one soon, Patrick

I was just kidding his wife over on facbook that we may have to start a facebook page called " Getting blackhawk to the Classic " this forum would likely be the best. Place for it
Hope it works out for him
on a side note I hear rumors Badger is considering coming and maybe y'all can help twist his arm
Good to hear James and Rebecca are comming
See ya there folks
-
Badger was at the Classic a few years ago. Hope he comes back.
I'll pitch in for Chris if needed. Looking forward to seeing James and Becca and their clan again. I haven't met their youngest(gir) yet.
-
Well it seems it boiling down to can I rebuild my truck in time. Wife wants to come also so hitching a ride wont do. If I make it though I will be down with loads of Damascus steel knives. Hows the tent camping weather there this time of year anyway? Hot muggy, cold muggy, hot cold dry rainy?
-
Great tent camping weather as long as you don't mind the occasional rain shower. Nights can get a little cool so bring something or somebody to keep warm with.
-
OO hit it on the head......
DBar
-
I sure hope Chris can make it. I sure want to see zome of his bows up close. Ill chip in if were taking a collection just tell me who and where to send it.
I think we wont get there until thursday nite around 7 or so will probabley get there too late to donate meat to the boil. What about fri and sat? Anyone do something those nites or should we plan on doing or own thing. Mikee cant help himself he has to cook and his flavor is almost as good as mine >:D so we'll be fine if theres no potluck or whatever.
-
Yep, I am in, not sure weather it's time/money or a good ride that is his hold up but whatever it is I would love to help if I can. :) Little over 3 weeks for some and a little less than 3 for me. ;) :) :)
Pappy
-
Sounds like JW has to work so I won't be picking him up! Its a long lonely drive from Meeteetse, Wyo. so hoping to be in late Thursday if I don't get lost in Clarksville like the last time. Really looking forward to seeing all the new things you have done to the farm! Am bringing a few things for the raffle and a couple of things to put on Jon's trade blanket offer! Joe
-
Very cool Joe, maybe things will change for JW , you never know about him, he surprised us last year. :) I will save you a bed. ;)
Pappy
-
Glad to hear you are coming, Joe. Maybe you can find someone else to share the ride with you. If you stayed north for a while on your trip east you might be able to pick up Blackhawk. :D
-
Pat: Where does Blackhawk live? Joe
-
Pennsylvania! ;D
-
Pat: You got me there!

Great video but I didn't see any bass players so I hope no one objects to me bringing mine?!. Bro, thats awesome. How are you spending your nights?
-
Sleek if I went with you, do you think I could loose a couple of pounds? >:D Patrick
-
Be careful Cody, every road don't have a bike lane. ;) ;D ;D See ya in a few weeks. Got the drive ready yesterday, man it is wide and smooth now. :) Them big camping rigs should be able to come right in with no problems now. :)
Pappy
-
I was wondering how your schedule was working out Cody
Hope you can stay on track !
be careful !!!
See ya there !
-
It looks like every thing is coming into place for another great Classic. I hope every one has a wonderful time and the weather holds out for you guys. I know what it is like camped down by the creek, believe me...lol. May all your time spent together be a great one. Wished I could be there, but just can not make it happen. Have fun and be safe every one.
-
Charlie, we'll certainly miss you there.
Cody, God speed to you. We'll be looking for ya!
-
Charlie
I am sure we will all find a minute to think of you even if it is a busy weekend!
-
Hi Pappy, I'm thinking about entering the Ultimate Bow Challenge this year. I was wondering if this stave would be allowed for the competition. It had some string alignment issues that I needed to heat correct (3 attempts actually), so I needed to reduce the stave to accomplish that. It's HHB that I got at the Classic 3 years ago from Blackhawk. Here's picture:
-
more pictures
-
Yep, floor tillered and no string nocks cut in yet, that's fine. :) Not much different in the stuff you might get from Us/Gary or Matt. :)
Pappy
-
Well, if nothin changes Kamron and I will be there late Friday night....lost almost all my camping gear(long story) so we might hafta do the hotel thing 👎...but atleast we can be there till monday mornin looks like?..... Brian

-
Well, it looks like I will be flying solo this year again. Bob McMinn called this morning to say he won't be able to make it. Come hell or high water, I'll be there! 8)
-
So I guess I'll be a first timer to the Classic this year and I'm psyched to be there! All of the guys at the Old Hickory Bowman Club in Hermitage, TN tell me it's an amazing weekend.
I did have a few questions about the layout just so I know what to pack.
1) What's close by in the area grocery wise? I.E. do I need to make sure I'm loaded up with a few days worth of camping gear or can I top off my supplies somewhere nearby, like a gas station?
2) Am I cool to come down Wednesday afternoon or do they not allow camping until Thursday? I took Wed-Fri off from work so I wanted to get a head start.
3) I have a friend coming from Atlanta but he won't make it until Thursday night. Can I stake off a little extra space for his tent or is he on his own to find a camp spot Thursday night? We've both just got pack tents.
4) What's the official policy on alcohol? Not looking to open a bar or anything like that, I just wanted to know if it's flat out forbidden there or what?
Thanks! REALLY looking forward to it and hopefully I'll walk away with a fresh made selfbow (my first!)
-
There are gas stations within a few miles. I think a WalMart is near also. Someone will have better directions for you.
The club opens the concession stand Friday through Sunday I think for breakfast and lunch. Saturday night is the Pot Luck for everyone.
Pappy will be there from the Friday before. Others start coming in then. Ill be there Tuesday so come on when you can.
You will probably be able to stake off enough room for you and your friend.
Inconspicuous alcohol is acceptable. Inappropriate behavior is not. This is a family affair.
Prepare to be blown away!!! 8)
-
Thanks for the fast reply! Sounds like it's going to be an awesome time. : )
-
That you Pat, you covered it nicely. ;) I need you around to answer some of my emails, getting tons with all kinds of questions, :)but I guess if you never been and are traveling far as some folks do you want to know what you are getting into. :) Man Bob is on again off again seems like :-\, maybe he will change his mind again before it gets here. ;) :) Yes Wally world is 7 miles toward Clarksville. :) Look forward to meeting you amateurhour. :)
Pappy

We have a meeting and working Saturday to get things finished up, we still have some time on the main range but the practice range/concessions/registration and bow working areas have to be finished. :) We have folks show up a week early that are in, and use them areas so looking for a big weekend to get looking good and finished up. :) I hope when I leave there Sunday I can say WE ARE READY. ;) :) :) Always have little things to do but over all we should be done. ;) See yall in a couple of weeks. :)

Matt I hope you don't mind me posting this picture. ;) :)You have been busy and from the calls these will be much needed. Hope Gary has some and others also, we only have 10 or 12 in Hickory and I see them being gone very quickly. ;) I can't tell you how many calls I have had on the selfbow Challenge. Every day at very least a few for the last month so I am not sure what to expect but I am betting if the weather is anywhere close to good we are going to have a crowd. :) Miss Joanie said it never starts this early, she usually gets covered up with call the week before but not the month before. :-\ Gary has always told me from the beginning ,be careful what you wish for. ;) :)

After seeing that pic I am throwing mine away and buying from Matt !
Talk about excitement
Man how can we get there sooner!!!
Less than 2 weeks now and that is not soon enough !
-
I may be in the market for a blank or two. I have a "hurry up" job to do for a friend of mine that is moving to Alaska in May. He is wanting an Osage bow to use up there. I don't have time to complete one from stave form at this point.
-
No worries, Mark. As I said, I have been busy. Between family and work obligations its all I've done with my spare time since the end of Deer season. I'm hoping to pull in sometime Saturday 26th.
-
That's great, see ya in a little over a week. :)

Hi Pappy,
Things are looking good for us to get there on Thursday to set up. I will bring a nice flute for the raffle table...can't wait to buy some tickets to take a try at getting Pat B's bow and such...tried to get one off him for awhile now but am way to low on his list of a thousand or so who would love a Pat B bow! We are gonna be at the North Georgia knapin just to get out on the road...been trapped here for so long we have forgotten how to camp! Winter was a ______ over here this year...glad Spring has finally come!
Soon,
Rand

I don't post much on here but this year will be my first Classic to attend. So I called a bit ago just to ask a few questions and Miss Joanie answered the phone; I have to say that she is the nicest lady I have had the pleasure of speaking with! In my excitement, I even interrupted her a couple of times before I caught myself and had to apologize. I will be bringing my wife along, it will actually be our honeymoon, and Miss Joanie assured me there would be stuff for her to do too, apart from making bows if she happened to get bored.
I just wanted to say thanks Miss Joanie for all of your helpful advice.
-
Pappy,
Sounds good to us to be where we were. So looking forward to chilling out over there! We gotta figure out what to bring to supper on Saturday!
Rand
-
Well, I haven't been working too much on the computer during my day job so I haven't had the desire to post anything for a while. But with spring here and the Classic around the corner I had to get on line and catch up.
I've read through the last several pages of this thread and i'm all fired up and cant wait to set up camp.
Hope to see you all soon!
Ed
-
Looking forward to seeing you, Ed!
-
Mark;
Kathie and I are hoping to roll in Sunday the 26th if I didn't piss off the Project Mng on this job when I refused to run Night Shift. We're hauling the camper this year.
-
I sure hope that holds Patrick, great Eddie looking forward to seeing yall. Got most everything done yesterday and Friday, all 3 ranges are set and shop/registration/concessions all cleaned and ready. Got a little tweaking here and there but much closer. Pappy
-
Matt and Pappy,
Can't wait, this will be my third year coming to the classic and my third year into primitive archery, you guys got me started and I thank you for that and look forward to hanging out for a few days!!
Ed
PS,
I'm sad to say that I didn't have time to make up a batch of brew for the event, my day job kept me pretty busy :(
-
That's OK Ed. We will forgive ya. About ready for you folks. :) Got all the ranges set and most everything that can be trimmed or cut this early done, trophies all ready to put together. 5 more days for me, can't wait. :)
Pappy
-
Darnit Ed. I only liked you for the beer! Kidding, We'll do fine I'm sure.
-
Man it is almost here, I can hardly wait. :)
Pappy
-
8 more days for me, sure will be nice to cross into Tenn. and hit camp at Twin Oaks. Like everyone else we've been looking forward to it since we left there a year ago. Be good to see everyone again and have
some big time fun in a perfect setting. :)
-
Getting a bit scary, Pappy? ;) One week from today for me. 8)
-
Pat: You really started a grand thing with your post of the raffle bow you are donating. Pappy will have to start early with the drawing as there are some really awesome donations! Its people like yourself that keeps us all coming back! Joe
-
Joe, I'm really pretty selfish. If I can help keep the Classic going it is to my benefit...others too but especially me! ;)
-
Come on Friday!!!!
-
Lookin forword to the break in reality and seein all my extended family soon 👍.... Brian
-
My best guess is that I'll be peddling in sometime Saturday. So glad it worked out! :)
-
I rode a bike to Twin Oaks once Cody. I had a stave strapped to the side of it the whole way. Got some strange looks here and there. Oh, I didn't have to peddle mine either >:D Looking forward to seeing you again.
-
Next Saturday or this Saturday Cody ??? Pappy
-
Glad your still on track Cody !
-
Next Saturday or this Saturday Cody ??? Pappy
this Saturday. Hopfully that won't be too early?
-
Nope that will be prefect. :) :) :)
Pappy
-
How long are you staying Cody?
-
Cody will probably have to miss seeing us Clint. I'm not getting there til Tuesday.
-
I will be there one week from today. :) :) Don't know what time yet. A lot depends on how I do this weekend with to turkeys. If I get one might come Tuesday evening after work. If I don't have
one dead by then might hunt Wednesday morning before I come down. Either way really looking forward to seeing everyone.
David
-
One more day of work, then it's go time. Can't wait ¡!!!!!!!!!!!!!
-
Looking forward to seeing you again Bear. I'll be there Saturday morning.
-
So I come in to work tonite and the boss says to me, "Hey John, better let me know what dates that Tennessee Thingy is so I can get you the days off."
So I says, thanks Dave....it's right in the middle of that cruise thru the Bahamas that you and your whole family is taking. Poor guy looked like I had kicked him in the guts. He spent the next half hour apologizing to me. Yeah, Dave's alright.
-
So I always show up Friday a week before the classic so I can help Pappy set up and get things right for folks coming to the Classic. Ok so what the daughter decides to schedule her wedding on the the Saturday before the classic I'll only miss one day. All good. But no, my son and daughter have first Holy Communion on Sunday the last day of the Classic! I'm gonna kiss the church for that one. I swear I'm in a world of hurt with Pappy! Well thank goodness my best buddy is Mark "Pappy " Baggett!" he says it's ok John, the folks will understand if you're your absent a few hours!
Thanks my fellow Archery friends. Sometimes things happen that are out of our control. All I can promise is we will do our best to make your Tennessee trip the best it can be!
Looking forward to seeing you all!
No worries I have a few friends in low places who will pull my slack.
Really, it's great that my friends from all over will be in Tennessee soon.
-
All coming together nicely, hauled more pine needles and mulch yesterday and done some work on the lower camp grounds, bagged more ice and moved a bunch of trailers [ I swear we have more trailers down there] :-\ Last run to Sam's today for me and Miss Joanie today so the concessions should be set. Still have a pretty good list of small stuff but after my help arrives Friday and Saturday ??? ;) :) [they just thought they were on vacation ] ;) morning we can knock that stuff out in a flash. ;) See yall in a few days. 1 more for me. ;) :)
Pappy
-
Just point me in the right direction Pappy when I roll in. I might just come out down Friday evening to help out.
-
Jon: You can count on this friend.
Mark: I'll be ready for work on Saturday.
-
Steve and I will be your huckleberries tomorrow. That's fun work!
-
Here is a weather conditions update for you guy's! Looks like is should be a nice classic for my first one! Patrick
(http://i1335.photobucket.com/albums/w668/lebhuntfish1/Mobile%20Uploads/2015-04/Screenshot_2015-04-23-22-16-27_zpso2c45x91.png) (http://s1335.photobucket.com/user/lebhuntfish1/media/Mobile%20Uploads/2015-04/Screenshot_2015-04-23-22-16-27_zpso2c45x91.png.html)

Now Patrick if you can bring that kind of weather we may invite you back every year ;) :) :)
Friday and the Classic is fixing to start for me in a few hours. ??? can't believe it is here again, talk about time flying. :o Weather don't look to bad right now but we know how that can change in TN. :) prepare for the worst and pray for the best is my motto. :) :) Really looking forward to seeing all of yall again. See some today and the rest in a few. ;) Life is Good. :)
Pappy
-
Amen Pappy! I'm just reporting what the weather man said for Clarksville. Don't hold it against me. I hope you let me come back even if it rains! ;D Patrick
-
It will rain. Patrick. Question is how much! ;D
-
Just a few hours now. Its finally here!! Heading out this evening. Yee haw!!
-
Patrick I've been coming down longer than most of there members and I can tell you one thing come rain or high water YOU Will
ILL HAVE THE TIME OF YOUR LIFE.
-
Greg don't forget my coyote hide for a night with Seabass. Lol
-
I didn't know Seabass was so cheap. ;D
-
Pat a man of your caliber, would be a bow or quiver.
-
All you fellows already there is killing me! Red Hawk, myself and a few others are preforming the "Lakota marriage ceremony" for Hawk Huston today. Hawk and his bride, Mariam, were at the Classic a couple of years ago so some of you know them! My friend from Yakama gave me a bunch of vintage steel points he got when working for Damon Howet years ago so am bringing them with me to maybe trade. It's raining here so most likely its raining at the farm. Waiting to start is painful! Joe
-
Joe, give Mike and Mariam my best wishes. It would be great to see them again some day. Honeymoon at the Classic...and they wouldn't be the first. Brian and Darla had their honeymoon at last years Classic.
Looks like possible severe weather at Twin Oaks today. Hold the fort guys! Back-up is on the way! ;)
-
Couple more days for the Cook's. we are rolling in Wednesday afternoon with a truck full. We can hardly wait to see all of you guys.
-
I can't wait its been since the great flood, I've had a long string of misfortune but blessings since the last time I was there I've lost my mom, brother in law, mother in law and father in law, all my vacation time has been used on keeping up their yards and settlement of the estates, I now have a new job with the gov. and have a lot more days off. I'm come up Wednesday I'm pitching in on the boil pot, bringing something for the pot luck and have a neck knife to put up for raffle. Got some johnstone , colored bottle bottoms , and other stuff for the knappers. Talked my nephew to come down he's an Iraq vet. I'm camping out and want to be as involved as I can. woooooowhooooooo can't wait.
-
I need pictures!! Someone post pictures please!
-
Miss Heather, there will be lots of pics but probably not many til next weekend.
-
I want to know if miss heather is bringing jam this year????
The black raspberry I bought last year at elm hall only lasted a week at my house. Been jonesin for it ever since. Lol
Ed
-
I'm going to post pictures on Facebook all week long on Twin Oaks page. Follow along for the fun!
-
Jon, I've been stalking that page too. :)
Hi Ed! I sent Matt with a few flavors. I think I sent 3 black raspberries.
-
Gonna miss seeing you Miss Heather. I'll make sure Jon post some pictures to get you through the week. Now I won't get there till Wednesday,
so, you're gonna have to suffer like the rest of us. :) I get through today and two days of work and I'll be on my way south. Matt's already there isn't he?
David
-
Hi David, I'm going to miss you too along with the rest of the group. Matt arrived late Friday night. Its hard not being there, I'm missing all the great friends we've made.
-
Miss Heather
I may not get to see ya in Tennessee but I bet I see ya three weeks later !
Take care and see ya soon!
-
Heyo!
So I'm coming up from Nashville Wednesday morning but I had a couple more questions about what I'd need/costs/etc. just so I can clear the budget with my better half. : )
1) First off, how much is it to build a bow? I didn't see any set prices for those awesome looking blanks so I was just curious. Also does that cover stringing it too or just the bow and use of a table?
2) I know it's $20 to shoot, is that for the entire weekend or is that each time through the course is $20?
3) Just so I know what to pack is there a community grill accessible there or should I bring one?
4) Again, just so I know, is there a shower anywhere near the club? It's not a big deal but since I'm going to be up there for like 5 days I figure I might want to not smell like a foot ALL weekend.
5) I've got some money set aside for the shoot and to (hopefully) build a bow, is there anything else I need to budget for as a cost aside from food/gas/etc?
I know some of these are dumb questions but this is my first trip camping at the classic and I figured instead of being a COMPLETE rookie I'd quadruple check everything (and still probably forget something)
If there's anything I'm missing or any good do's/don'ts I'm all ears. Thanks again!
-
Tic toc tic toc... leaving Wednesday night and driving all night to get there Thursday morning.
-
Let me see if I can help...
1Bow blanks I've seen range from $50-$150.
2There's several ranges and the $20 gets you a score card on the 2 main ranges. Also a practice range that's free and target butts set up for anytime shooting.
3Bring your grill or hang out at someone else's fire. More than likely you will find yourself pulled into a neighbors camp and all you'll need is food and beverage.
4There's a shower tent setup for all to use. I've never had a cold shower, but you might have to wait your turn.
5There have been some incredible donations posted already, so if you have extra money you might feel like dropping some tickets in the cans you are drooling over.
More to consider- they open concessions on Friday so if you are missing a meal or drink they will have ya covered. Lots of vendors with plenty of primitive archery gear, so if you are needing it, just look around. There's no better people on the planet than what you'll find in the twin oaks hollow. Worse comes to worse, there's a Walmart close.
Come on Wednesday!!
-
You will not only get a stave and a bench with the cost of the Selfbow Challenge but you will have help from some of the best wood bow builders in the country and you get to compete for trophies with others in the Selfbow Challenge on Sunday. You still have to pay the $20 for a score card but you'll have plenty of opportunities to shoot.
I think Pappy has hickory staves there and there will be plenty of guys selling, trading or giving away all kind of bow wood. Lots of osage especially.
All the money collected from the raffle table goes to Twin Oak Bowhunters and helps to support the Tennessee Classic. Once you get there you will see this will be a bargain for a 5 day vacation. ;)
-
Oh yeah, I'll be leaving in the morning. Should be at Twin Oaks by noon or a little after. See ya there! 8)
-
We took my mother inlaw to the hospital last night so maybe I'm coming and maybe not
Should find out more tonight
-
Decided I won't be able to make it. Can't miss the studying time unfortunately. :'( Hope everyone has a great time though! Make a bow for me! ;D

-
You guy's are killing me! 10 more hours of work and getting the last bit of gear squared away. Then we will be headed that way Thursday morning about 10am. That is if I can get everything done by then. Patrick
-
The weather has been great so far. You guys better hurry up and get here. Me and cody bought 6 lbs of bacon tonight. That should last us a couple of days ;D.
-
Fixing to head that way. 10hrs from now I will finally get to meet some of my PA friends. Cant wait. Talked to Clint last nite and I figure on staying in the bachelor barracks. Thanks pappy thats a nice provision as Im trying to travel as light as possible.
-
Bad News for me.....Late business appointment on Friday rescheduled
Good news for me......Now find myself with a little free time....hmmm.....Tennessee Classic
-
I wish I was there already but work commitments are keeping me from coming up until Friday evening :-\ . Guess I 'l have to stay up late and get up early to make up for lost time.
I'm sure there will be plenty of staves floating around, but I wil be bring some osage staves and black locust for sale or trade in case anyone needs one.
Hope everyone has a safe drive up and I'll see you all Friday night!!!
Ed

Rover, your best bet is to reheat it by the fire. It will add to the flavor! They do have some (limited) power in the concessions area, and the bow building area. But there isn't a lot of space to put it while its plugged in. The club will be able to help more with it once you get there.
-
t -7 hours, and counting.
-
What no pics yet :o
-
Well everything is ready to load in the morning except the food. That will have to get packed in the morning. If everything goes well we should be on the road about 10 or 11 tops. Watch out classic, here we come! Patrick
-
There has been a Blackhawk sighting at Twin Oaks!
-
YAY Blackhawk! I'll be there is about 7 hours.
-
Matt & Heather,
My house is filled with the aroma of Moose simmering with onions, tomatoes, vinegar, cinnamon , nutmeg and plethora of other spices. It's the same dish I cooked last year over the fire, but i'm taking the easy road this year.
It will be ready for the pot luck Saturday, and I'll bring a camp stove to heat it up on. I will also bring rice to make up that day, unless you think there will be some already made up.
I'm counting down the hours!! see you all soon!
-
Sure wish I was going to make it. The mrs. and I are gearing up to start building our house. Not the best year for hobbies. We are getting the well drilled next week. I hope it doesn't get past 400 feet.

Don, Nathaniel and I put a nice shot on this practice target

Looks like the hi low made it to Tennessee
Tracy
-
Officer Seabass has been patrolling the campground and keeping everyone in line.
-
Got here last night about 7pm. After we got the tent up we visited for a bit. Decided to walk down the hill to see the rest of the place. Made it about 20 feet and a bearded fella (dvshunter) said " hey I guess they will let anyone in her!" Needless to say we didn't make it down the road any further. This is the reason I go to these type of events. The people!
Patrick
-
Officer Seabass has been patrolling the campground and keeping everyone in line.
What! You guys put Seabass in charge of patrolling!? All ya gotta do is give him a beer and food and he'll look the other way. ;) O:)
-
Thanks for the pics Scott! Please keep them coming! I'm going through withdrawal out here. Josh
-
Josh I got to see your pheasant feather bow on the raffle table it looks great. Gonna have to spend a little money and see if I get lucky. Everybodies having a gramd ole time for sure.
-
We need pictures!
-
Thanks Danny and thanks for the report! Good luck on the raffle! I hope someone takes a good pic of all the loot on the table. I'd love to see what all is on there. It sounded like it was shaping up to be a humdinger of a raffle! Josh
-
BOLO! BOLO! Be on the lookout for a skinny Army infantry grunt named Isaac. He is a young man I have mentioned here before and he is currently stationed at Fart Campbell and is heading for the Classic as we speak. If he needs anything, please take care of him for me! I will happily reimburse anyone for taking care of this young soldier's needs! (he is underage, so please do NOT feed that bear. Besides, his mother would kill me!)
If someone could tell Joe York that Isaac is there, he'd appreciate it, too. The two of them really hit it off when they met several years ago!
Far as I am concerned, the only thing better than being there myself is seeing Isaac get a chance to go.

There is a story behind Seabass being in charge. Matt will have to tell you.

1 lane traffic everywhere....... 2am ETA.....jeez :o

You must be in the Mount Vernon area. Don't worry, Clint and Chris will still be working away in the bow shop when you get there. Lol! Josh
-
Not tonight Josh. Turning in early. See you in the morning Brian. We did get the tips flipped on my bow. How does the full brace look?

Woo that's a great haul!
Del

Matt Wirwicki won Pats set and James Parkers Egyptian bow. Matt had some good karma from all the work he has done helping beginners make their first bows this week.
-
BOTH??!?!?!?!
-
Rigged! Rigged I tell ya!
-
Made investments on the Blackhawk and Gun Doc bows. Not quite as lucky as Matt's double, but very pleased to hear my name called when ticket was drawn for Chris' "The Monster Tree" stick that was made at 2014's Classic. Thanks much, Chris, for putting it on the table!!
-
Had a great time at the Classic with the family and friends even if only for the day! Twin oaks crew is top notch and do a stellar job putting this event on every year!
Thanks to all that donated items for the raffle table!

I had a great time again this year at the classic. I think this year was the biggest I have ever been to. It seemed like people were camped out everywhere. I know my two kids had a blast again as they were asleep in the truck before we got to the highway. We must have shot 500 arrows this weekend. My son soaked just about every piece of clothing he brought down in the creek too. Thanks again to the twin Oaks guys for taking care of all of us so well. See you next year!

Just got back home from the classic, hope everyone gets home safely.........A huge thanks to Pappy and the Twin Oaks Gang for a great job!!!!........best year ever !!!!! Got to talk to past acquaintance's and made some new friends.
Thanks again!!!!!

Man, this was my best Classic ever! Great weather, great food, and of course great people. I created new friendships and caught up with old friends too. Big thanks to Missilemaster and Will H for help on my bow. Big thanks to hedgeapple for the gift bow, and also to Stringman and Dave for a great stave. Tracy was very generous in a gift as well. Camping with these guys was an experience I'll never forget. The Twin Oaks crew was top shelf as always and made everyone feel welcome. Many, many memories were made. Thanks Pappy, it was a good one. Here are a few pics I managed to take:

Wow! What a week. The weather was absolutely perfect. Only 3 drops of rain fell on the Classic this year. Pappy and the Twin Oaks crew put on a top notch gathering. Thanks so much for all the hard work that goes into it.
I really enjoy camping with our little group of guys. They sure know how to cook and entertain. Stringman and his buddy Dave can cook just about anything over a fire. I met so many new people this year. I got to spend some bow shop time and shot a round with Wizard Goat. Sure hope he can make it to Marshall on his way back home. There were a lot of great guys from the Houston Texas area. I hope Kick joins the forum. I think he has the primitive addiction now. I dined on some deer cooked over a friction fire at the spirit station. That was something special. Cody and Greg were a blast to hang out with all week. Cody was quite the prankster this year. Good luck on the rest of your journey! I made a lot of good trades and came home with a truck load of supplies. The trade blanket was fun. I hope they have it again next year. It was nice to see Blackhawk stroll through the bow shop unannounced. I knew he couldn't miss it. We didn't pull any all nighters but we had a fun round of shooting at dusk. See you in a few weeks buddy.
The raffle table was amazing. There were so many great items. It was nice seeing Matt Wirwicki win PatB and James Parkers bows. Matt was over at the practice bales helping a young lady shoot her newly finished selfbow when they called his name for the second bow.
I'll post some pictures tomorrow.

The only bad thing about this years Classic was watching my stream light flashlight disappear into the blue abyss of a port-a-jon :'(
-
I'm sitting at a rest stop just across the Michigan border. Thought I'd catch up on any posts before catching a few ZZZ's. Great hanging out with Greg, Cody and Clint. Top notch fellers, fer sure. Thanks for posting some pics. Can't wait to see more.

Great pics guys... :)
Looks like you all had a fine old time.... aside from the flashlight >:D

I got home about 7:30 last evening after a hectic trip home. Lots of traffic and a few road repair hold-ups but it sure did not overshadow the best ever Tennessee Classic; perfect weather, great people(as always), lots of great food(as always), just a great time. I had fun with Greg and Matt and everyone else in the kitchen on Thursday afternoon prepping for the Thursday evening boil. It's still hard to believe how much we chopped and cooked. The Saturday night potluck was amazing as always.
I'm not sure exactly how many participated in the Selfbow Challenge but I think it was a new record for the Tennessee Classic with at least 90 participants. WOW! I'll get my pics downloaded and posted soon.
Thanks again to Twin Oaks for hosting such a great shoot. Now we have to wait another year but it will be worth the wait.
-
Greg Is it just me or is that bow atrung backwards?
I had a blast as well. Took many pics that I will post sometime this week. Shout out to everyone I met. You know who you are. Danny

Here are some pics I took from my first ever Classic. Let me tell you it was a blast. When I arrived Thursday the bow shop was already hopping.

But it didn't take me long to find a spot in the knapping pit

With the help of some of the best knappers around a guy cant help but learn something.

A big Thanks to Pappy and the TBC for putting on such a great event. It was a pleasure to meet everyone. Cant wait till next year.

Well Neil (Patches) and I got home last night around 6pm. Unloaded Neil's stuff so he could get on the road for another 2 hours.
Wen we rolled in Thursday evening, we were immediately met by old friends and hospitality. It was like we have come home to visit. Got to share a camp fire with Dave (dvshunter), Mike (Knoll), and Chris. Thanks guy's for everything! We didn't know what to expect Friday morning when we went down the hill for our first Classic. The sight was something to see that's for sure! I never expected to see so many people that loved archery all in one place. I was not feeling well the whole weekend but decided to make the best of it. So I sucked it up and had as much fun as I could. I met so many of you guys from the forum there that it was almost overwhelming. I was really glad to finally put some faces to the names.
The coolest thing I did while I was there was Saturday night after supper. I decided to get out my first bow and show it to all of my new friends from PA. I'm proud of my bow but I was pretty overwhelmed by all of the compliments I received from all of you experienced guys. Even PatB! >:D You guy's are all top notch fellas in my book. Can't wait to roll back in there next year! Patrick

I did get to make a great trade with a fella called Ryan, aka wizardgoat! We swapped some staves. Then he made me an offer I couldn't refuse and he ended up with my custom made scraper. At one point I told him, "I don't know how you did it but you did."
Glad I got to meet and visit with you and your wife both. Wish we could have had more time to talk about bows. I hope you enjoy that scraper as much as I did and may it build you a lot of bows. Have a safe journey back home. I hope to post some pics later on in the week. Next year, I'm going to make sure to bring Becca, and aaaalllllll my kids. Thanks for letting the cat out of the bag, Mullet.
P.S. to everyone, I have lost my favorite shooting thumb ring. It was a gift from a friend. It's made of clear lexane plastic. Cheesy I know. But it's the best shooting ring I every had. If anyone finds it, there is a handsome reward. Just let me know.
Thanks again to all, James Parker

It's somewhere around where we set up. It's a small thumb ring and it's clear like plexi-glass, so it will be hard to find. Thanks once again Pappy. Can't wait till next year. Bringing the whole crew! --James

That will be a +1 won't it, James? ;D

A big thank you to all the Twin Oaks club members for a great weekend at your place, you guys made everything perfect at the classic including the weather. Thanks also to the thur. night boil crew and those that organize the sat. night potluck, the food and fellowship was priceless. Also gotta thank Will & Pappy for staking out our campsite, after 3 years of coming down it feels like our home on the hill in early May. :)
Had a ton of fun this year visiting with the friends we've made over the past couple years and made a bunch of new friends as well this year. Seems you can't help but meet a lot of good people at this place, sure does make good memories and make you want to get back each year. Had good laughs and music around our campfire each night, good visits with friends old and new around the pavilion and fun shooting the ranges.
Didn't take enough pictures but here's most of what I did take. Thanks again Twin Oaks.
