I know it's a bit early but am so excited just had to let you folks know
Wilder Creek Conservation club is on the move big time
the old building back by where yall camped is scheduled to be torn down starting today and a new one is gona go up so your camp in the back will have bathrooms and a shower, ect.
Guess it pays to have yall bring the families LOL
down side is they are going to try to reopen the old drive and some of you were camped on it
lots of other good things coming so stay tuned
I will share as best I can as it all unfolds
thanks for making our event all it is
Guy
-
That is very good news Guy. Will there be electric hookups in the back field now? Where is the old drive?
-
I am sure we can grab some power off the building and there may be more depending how the rest of it shakes out
The old drive came up from the road where the folks behind you camped ,maybe Cody , Bowmo and those down thru there if I remeber for sure who camped where
we are working on a design for a permanent set of targets along the edge of that back field, hoping to run them from the building back to where the big Atlatl targets where setting
depending on how that works out we may be able to set a couple of poles for power
still a lot of details to work on but the building is for sure on the way now.
-
Cool! It's going to be a new place next year when we pull in.
-
Thats awesome Guy! I hope I can see it next year!
Patrick
-
Great news, love to see old clubs doing well a lot are not. :(
Pappy
-
That will be nice Guy, looking forward to seeing it all did up. I'm also working with Mike on getting new(er) 3D targets. The Elm Hall club may or may not have a batch to sell off. If all goes well, Elm Hall will have some more garage space and Wilder Creek will have some better targets. Its a win-win.
-
ya Patrick there will be power waiting for you so you can be in thick of these folks
Thanks Pearly I am hoping a few others join in on this effort as well cause we need to expand the 3D range and do the permanent set up also and targets cost a ton
our shoot has been the only means to raise support for targets for along time and if we want to take on other things we need something more to start with
With the infrastructure coming up par we have a real opportunity to shine even more !
as an example the kids of the area are at W.C.C.C. all month long in July each year learning conservation stuff , if there is a permanent set up where its easy and readily available they will be all over it !
No Brain-er in my opinion.
could go on all day but need to get to work
-
Sounds Great for the Club.... Good for Pearl and Guy..
DBar
-
That's great. I plan on coming this year. I'll be a first timer so go easy. You gathering sounds a lot like mojam to me. Just good "family" hanging out. Plus me and the kids have never been to MI.
-
I plan on coming this year.
Maybe we'll have a MO convoy.
-
That's great news Dave. You guys will enjoy it.
-
As long as you can work on 2 hrs sleep you will do fine at Marshall😜 i had one great time there with great guys

We'd prolly have MO Fun that way... - OneBow

Bj glad to hear you are making plans already

I am heading up to Wilder Creek tomorrow, we need to have a powwow about the renovations going on and talk about the lay out of the back field
always more fun to spend someone else's money
so glad for grants and donations !!!
-
Have fun Guy ...I'd love laying out something like that....safety, access, camp sites ..... Having the ability to look ahead at the final product and work back to get started at the beginning. Sounds like a lot of fun....enjoy
DBar

Would be interesting to see the plan, when it's developed.

I can't get pics to work here again so check us out on Facebook

Sorry guysI think you lost your camping spot
new parking space going in there acording to what I heard
Many things still up in the air as costs are skyrocketing

That's fine you may end up setting on the stone lot.
Just relocate that huge tree to the other side of the field and we will be just fine.
Now that's a idea wonder what it cost to move a tree that size !?
I'm crossing my fingers that 2017 will be my year to join in on the fun with you northerners
Hope it works out for you Aaron !

Aaron, for a bunch of Yank's they are a pretty good bunch of guys.

I really hope to see you there Aaron. We went for 1st time last year (1st primitive event of any kind) my Wife, grandson and I really enjoyed it we plan on making it a anual most do.

Aaron . . . we'll try to organize a convoy. By the time we reach MI state line there may be a dozen or more. That may qualify as an invasion!

If Lee had invaded Michigan instead of Maryland and Pennsylvania, the War of Northern Aggression might have turned out differently! >:D :o ;)

I hope I can make it this coming year.

Its a good one and worth your 5 -6 hour ride up. Plus, I want to see that sad excuse for a bow you got from Clint. :)
-
Pearl.....
Warning....... don't get into a shooting contest with him.
DBar
-
Joe, we got there Wednesday and stayed until Sunday. Its a very peaceful and relaxing gathering. Kind of like the ITBA shoot we just had except all selfbows and wood/cane arrows. Lots of bow making, shooting, and eating going on. Plus the company is top notch.
-
That sounds like my kind of place and I could learn a lot from there. Pearl that bow I got from clint shoots really good. I been shooting it every day so far.
-
Joe, here is a post from this years Marshall shoot. It has a lot of pictures of the fun.
http://www.primitivearcher.com/smf/index.php/topic,55679.435.html
-
I believe you Joe. He builds a great bow, even with that stupid blue tape grid on his shop wall. I just like to give him a hard time every chance I get, he reciprocates :)
-
Pearl.....
Warning....... don't get into a shooting contest with him.
DBar
I don't get in shootin' matches with ANYBODY! Heck even Nate will school me. Maybe we should enter ol' Joe as a dark horse in the milk jug shoot?
-
Thanks for the post.
-
Sounds like thing ain't going so good with the back building constuction may not get off the ground yet , red tape and cost increases due to it
anyway we will have a blast
May 26 27,and 28 of 2017are the dates and yes we will be showing up early
soon as you folks get done hunting we can move on to some planning
What do you folks want changed and what do you want to stay the same ?
-
We were sittin' around Thanksgiving table . . . between "the meal" and dessert. Conversation had ebbed a bit. So, the 12-yr-old granddaughter, Rylie, comes up with this question outta the blue,
Rylie . . . "Pawpaw, when's the shoot in Michigan?"
me . . . . "Welllll, what holiday weekend was it?"
Rylie . . . after some serious thinking . . . "Easter?"
me . . . . "Wellllll, that's a bit early."
Rylie . . . after bit more contemplation (and hints from gramma) ... "Memorial Day!!"
me . . . . "And that's in what month?"
Rylie . . " May?"
me . . . . "yep"
Rylie . . . "Welllll, I can't wait!"
So, guess I'll have a travel partner again in 2017.
-
<snip>Rylie . . . "Welllll, I can't wait!"

DITTOS Rylie!!! -OneBow
-
Double dittos Rylie and Eric :) :) :)
-
That's just awesome, right there...
-
Me to Rylie, my wife and I are very much looking forward to seeing you all again. I'm hoping our grandson Charlie can come with us again but his dad thought it might not work with him being in school now. We'll see what grandma can do about that, I'd love for the whole family to all come I'm sure they would enjoy it.
Less than 5 months to go
Bjrogg
-
Rylie's mom believes she gets as much educational value from those several days in the company of a bunch of straight-up citizens as she'd get at school.
And don't any of you outlaws tell her different! ;)
-
It probably doesn't hurt that there were some boys around her age there
-
You noticed too, huh?
During that same Thanksgiving dinner conversation lull, I reminded her that TN will be here before Marshall.
She had 2 questions:
Is there a creek?
Any kids show up?
Thought to myself . . . betcha she means boys.
-
Sounds like you need to keep a close eye on her Knoll. There are a lot more boys at the Classic
-
Yea but there's a lot more creek too! ;D
-
She will always have somebody looking after her! That's another great thing about these shoots. Once you get to know the kids around, you watch them like your own. Its relaxing for mom, dad or grandparents knowing the kids are safe.
-
I would love to make it back again this year. Just not sure how it will work out. I do hope to see you all though!
Patrick
-
I might try to make this work. Are Okie rednecks allowed that far north?
-
Hopefully the frogs had a good breeding season because my daughters will be back
-
That was funny Pauly! Cant wait to see them again, cute little turds they are.
-
Would be GREAT if ya can make it, Jon!
Pat, ya gotta make it. And drag Eric along.
Guys, we aren't at your halfway point, but you're welcome to use our place as a layover.
Dave may make the trip too.
-
I might try to make this work. Are Okie rednecks allowed that far north?
Heck Jon they let a hippy tree hugger from Calif so you are probably good to go. You will have a great time!!!
-
It would be great if you could make it Jon. You will fit right in with the northern guys eh! It would be nice if Captain Redbeard can come also. Patrick, I hope things work out for you and Eric to make it again. I enjoyed getting to hang out with you guys.
-
Clint I've been known to be a little extreme when the sun goes down. Just ask Mike. He usually has to sleep half the day after the fire burns out... :o
-
Jon, NEVER AGAIN . . . . and . . . Redbeard's been promoted, it's now Commodore. O:)
-
Jon, he's an early riser at Marshall. It might have something to do with that little bottle he pours in his coffee.

That's a good pic Clint! I will say that Mike always manages a good smile afterwards.
-
How cute, jammy bottoms and a mini whiskey :)
You guys are getting me all excited already, quit it!
-
Going back through all the pictures to find that one of Mike sure brought back some good memories. I'm ready for some late nights in the bow shop again.

Good times indeed Mike good people seem to cause that😄

Thanks guys for carrying on here
life sure has ways of getting in the way but God is good
My wifes sugery went well and recovery is going super
by the first of the year I should have my completer back on duty and won't have to do everything around here by myself, I am plumb wore out , but should be rested by Marshall time !
you folks have given me a breath of fresh air by posting here that will help to carry me thru till then.
See y'all in the spring
Merry Christmas and God bless y'all

Good to hear wifey is progressing well. Hope to see ya in TN.

Not sure that will happen Mike
Guess we can always hope

Glad she is doing well Guy, wondered where you had been lately.

Its funny, I am torn between going to Tennessee for the 20th classic and to Marshall. I went to the classic a couple of years ago and ended up getting sick and hurting my shoulder. Didnt get to enjoy it like I thought I would. But I had such a good time in Marshall hanging out with you guy's I think I would rather go there.
It would be cool if all of us southern boys made it up this year! Man what a camp it could be! The only problem is that you guys go to bed to early!
Patrick
-
Sorry you didn't enjoy the Classic Patrick, all I can say is we try. Marshall is a great place and has been around for years , hope yall all enjoy. Not in the cards for me this year but I retire this coming Sept. and it is on my to do list for sure. ;)

Not that I didn't enjoy the classic pappy. It was a good time. But I got sick while I was there and didnt feel like participating much at all. Then I hurt my shoulder somehow and couldn't shoot the course. I just didnt get to enjoy it as much as I wanted to. Ill be back for sure! Just not sure if it will be in the cards for me this year. I think ill have to choose between Marshall and the classic.

So, what should a first timer prepare for? I have it marked on my calendar for next year, nothing will stop me.

The camping area is flat, big and dry. Lots of shade and sun available. Tents and campers both work well. There is a shower room open 24-7 so you don't have to worry about cleaning up at 2 am after a bow building binge. There is a pot luck on Saturday that has grown to quite a feast the last few years. And I believe they sell hot dogs and/or burgers cheap for lunches. Food and eating food is NEVER a concern. Plenty of that gets shared.
As far as building bows is concerned. A portable vice or press is nice, but not needed. There is always a vice or press not being used, usually mine. Somebody always has staves for trade or sale, so you wouldn't have to haul one if you didn't want to. Take a look at some old threads from past gatherings and you can see our play area is set up nice. Plenty of light and open tables to use.
And finally, the cool cats camp out in the back field while nerds like Wirwicki camp out up front..................love ya' Matty :)
-
I hate choosing.
ME TOO!

True statement Clint. I may try for both but it might be one of those short trip this year.

My vacation time account is still sadly depleted by all the fun I had last year. ...<sigh> it sux to be an old man that changed jobs late in his career a few times. I have to get by on a newcomer's share of leave time even though I'm a gray bearded ole fool. If I was still at the place I started at so long ago I'd be retired by now and have all my time to bum about to the various gatherings all over the whole country/world! Shoulda woulda coulda I guess! :'( :'( :'(

If's and buts were fruits and nuts oh what a Christmas it would be....know what you mean Eric :)
-
Patrick I know what you mean. I really want to make it to the Classic some day. Just a really busy season for me. I gotta admit I'm not a big crowd person. My wife and I really enjoyed both the size and quality of the crowd at Marshall.
Eric not very many people stay at one job anymore even if they want to. Sure hope to see both of you guys again.
Ksnow last year was my 1st time and it was even better than I imagined and I've got a good imagination. If you like building bows bring your hand tools. If you like shooting bring lots of colorful arrows. I'm going to try and bring more $$ . It's not that it takes a lot but when I got home I was so happy with everything I got I wished I'd have gotten more. Some good deals, you could see what you where getting and no shipping. I just can't buy any of this stuff around here. Almost everything I make comes from stuff I harvest or collect but there's things I just can't get. If you got a wife and kids you can bring them to. My wife loved it and now I'm can go again. Looking forward to meeting you.

Bj did we meet last year? Sad to say but i met so many great guys sometimes i need a pic to remember. Marshall was a great time and the perfect size for me
-
Bubby I think briefly but I'm sorry to say I'm the same way. I thought I'd be able to keep everyone straight from knowing them from the site but that didn't help as much as I thought it would. I do know one thing for sure, I didn't meet anyone there I didn't really like. It was really a good time.
Bjrogg
-
Bj, Bubby was the one hugging trees and wearing jeans, sandles, a tye died shirt, and the headband with flowers on it.
-
Lol maybe I didn't meet him. Don't remember that guy. Bubby we had the camper by Patrick and Eric's tent right by the showers. We campered by the nerds as Pearl would say but my wife had air and showers so it made life easier for me. You know Happy wife happy life. I did think I was in trouble when I spent most of our money buying a bunch of stone and snake skins but we had enough to get home so all was forgiven.😜

Yes Dbar I think we met briefly. I actually spent more time knapping and less time bow building than I was planning on. Like Bubby said it happened so fast and I met so many really good people I had a hard time remembering who was who. Bubby I was the short guy with the grey hair. I brought a bunch of HHB staves for trade and donated to auction. Really just to give to anyone who wanted one. I got the diamond back skins that where sold at the benefit auction and said my wife is gonna kill me then the guys said she's standing right behind you. She actually really liked them and I couldn't believe I got them for the $ I did. Thanks again MW for donating them. Man I'm getting all excited just talking about it.

It's all part of the mojo of Marshall ,love it all
Over the years I have been to more than a few of these events mostly in Ohio,Indiana, and Michigan and as the saying goes there is no place like home
I have been to some of them for year after year but the ones I feel at home the most are Pappys place and Marshall, there is some very real Mojo at both places that is beyound me being able to explain
I thank the good Lord for allowing me the opportunity to experience both of them!

The purple tool purse. That was a good one

I'm the first to not concern myself with my wardrobe, its obvious in a lot of the pictures you may see me in. BUT, I haint wearing no tutu fella's!
BJ was a little shy last year. Next year he will be handing out lessons to the masses :)
-
You got the little shy part right Pearl, like I said not a big crowd person and very new to all this stuff. My wife is probably better at meeting new people than me. She got to know a quite a few people and their kids and grandkids. She loves kids. Everyone did make me feel comfortable though and I learned so much. Not thinking I'm ready to teach class yet but I think I'll feel a lot more confident this time around. It really is my kind of event.
Don't mind your comfortable wardrobe at all Pearl, sure glad to here your not planning on wearing tutu be hard to get that out of my head.lol.

MERRY CHRISTMAS Y'ALL
Hey BG, ...any update on the work that was/is going on in the back section for camping? Power? Privies? Showers? I mean, I'm fine with NONE of those being available, but I'm trying to talk my Darling Wife into coming along this year and I suspect these items would be serious inducements to getting her to sign-up! :)
OneBow
-
Eric I'm not positive but I think Guy said that project got put on hold. I'd like to camp back with the cool guys, but my wife is probably gonna want the nerdy close to the showers and electric hook up site. So it'd be nice to have a cool nerdy neighbor if that'd help persuade her.
Bjrogg
-
BJRogg - That sounds like an option! Thanx muchily... We'll just make an "other kewl kids" camp. I doubt we can aspire to be as awesome as the back field guys, ...but we can still be comfortable, (...and sleep with our wives!) :) :D ;) 8)

BJ is correct they ran into an unexpected expense and put the improvements of the back field on hold but many of the other things are full speed ahead
they are putting together a meeting after the holidays to try to get some of the back field things going again but doubtful the showers are in the cards this year
but you folks can get a new cool going upfront by the facilities already there
let me know if you need anything special , I will do my best .
will keep you all posted
this I know the old drive is open.
some of the bridges and stairs are improved and a few other things are done

started to head back there with one a couple a years ago but Mike stopped me wanted it right outside his tent so thats as far as we made it
Something about being old not sure what he meant by that, but I wanted to mind my elders
So If the cool guys will take Mike in they can put it wherever they want it
we will see how it all flushes out this spring and go from there
Hope you make it back soon bubby

sounds like another fun time heading our way

We will have two smokers this year, so four butts will be easy peasy. Should have room for a few other items in there as well :)

That's great guy, they won't be disappointed. An it's coming fast now. Anyone have a bow challenge idea?
Bjrogg

Work out back was halted not sure if they have resumed as I have been way busy here
BJ I have been thinking the same thing kinda wondering about a hatchet bow contest , maybe on Fri.
Would like to hear from the rest of y'all
Pearly are you bringing a smoker ? That would be great
I keep thinking about buying one but not sure I could swing it as it would have to be left there as I dont have room to haul it
hope everyone is doing good
sure wish we could get together more
-
Guy, are you talking about making a bow with only a hatchet?
-
I am, Guy. We will have two going.
I'm too busy to do any building contests. Plus, I've pretty much promised myself out to a few folks already.
-
Good Pearl that should help alot.
ya Clint no other tools
what ya think
or since we did minibows we could do a yumi chalenge this year Lol
if I dont get this room done for my sweetie soon I won't be doing anything
-
If we do the hatchet bow I'm bringing one of those honeysuckle staves that I cut last summer.
-
You might want to bring some hatchets for the trade blanket. Not sure how my HHB will respond to working with a hatchet.
Bjrogg
-
Any other challenge ideas ?

a hatchet on hhb is no problem. I'm up for a hatchet challenge..... that's the only way rough them out.

Are we supposed to build them at Marshall or at home?
Bjrogg

Can we use more than one hatchet on the bow?

Alright boys, i know there's alot goin on at this event.... but i was thinking about doing a tribute to one of the forefathers of this event... Norm Blaker. Not only is he a living legend he is one of my best friends. I've had the pleasure of calling Norm a teue friend for over 20 yrs now.... nothing over the top, but i plan on making something for eveyone to sign and maybe a lil speach and hug ( Norm prefers hugs over handshakes) before the trade blanket on saturday night.
-
Really , if it was'nt for him this event would'nt be happening.... Norm will be 82 yrs young this year and he has lived every se ond of it. Let's show him the respect he diserves.
-
I finally got to meet him the first time i went to marshall. I've been reading about him since I was a young boy. Always found him very interesting. An extremely kind and generous guy in person. I would be glad to help or donate anyway I can
-
Great idea, Mike! He is some kinda (and kind) gentleman.
-
Just a few things... he was making bows, arrows and flintknapping when only a handful of ppl even knew that those thinga could be done... he quit his job as a carpenter to become a professonal trapper and archery trick shot with Ron Laclair for many years. Made his living with archery and primitive living. Was a bear guide and lived in a wall tent in Michigans U.P. for over 12yrs. Taught primitive skills for college students and still is a spiritual healer for all of mankind. He not only taught me, he changed my life and guided me to be a better person.
-
They don't come any better than Norm ! Bob
-
Very nice idea, he is a great person for sure. :)
Pappy
-
Great call, Mikey. I'll do what I can to help honor Norm.
-
Nice idea Mike. I could tell from talking to you last year at Elm Hall of the impact he had on you. That's a great thing. I've seen Norm around at different events but never had the pleasure to talk with him.
-
I am planning on attending for the first time this year. What should I plan on bringing? I read about trade blankets, shoots, etc. I want to make sure I have enough stuff to enjoy the experience fully.
Kyle
-
Great news Kyle! Bring some bow projects and tools, a clamp on vice or press is nice to have. Food is always available up front at the clubhouse, but I usually pack my own and make it. I love outdoor cooking and eating. There is a Saturday night potluck, meat is provided my Pauly and I. So consider a dish to pass that will travel well for you. Cash is always a good thing to. Lots of vendors around to peruse, plus Clint will have osage staves to be had at a very fair price.
-
That's great Kyle, like Pearl said bring your tools a vice if you have one. Don't forget pencils I just can't build a bow without one. Arrows bow and anything you might trade that has some value. Last year I bought a bunch of firewood and didn't use any not bringing any this year. Like Pearl said $$ is good to bring. It's not that it expensive trip, it's just a great chance to buy stuff we all need at a good price and not have to pay shipping.
Bjrogg
-
they have a shower in the clubhouse. Some body wash and a towel is a good idea or you could be like crack Hawk and just get stinkier as the days go on
-
Good call, Pauly. I forgot about the shower.
-
A person could get in the poison ivy if they weren't careful to. If you bring kids there's lots of other kids to play with. Chairs and maybe a table. A little gas or charcoal camping grill. A fire ring if you want campfire. They don't want fires on the grass. Most of all your curiosity and take pictures. I always forget to take pictures.
Bjrogg
-
Mosquito spray!
-
Hear plugs if you shoot the course with Osage Outlaw ....and plenty of arrows for the across the lake bear shot and the 3D course around the skunk cabbage.....
DBar.
-
I always forget to take pictures.
ain't it the truth!
-
Thanks for all the tips guys. I'll probably have a full truck by the sounds of it. I am a historical reenactor (French fur trade) so the camping part is covered. I had better get busy making arrows and shooting a bit more if I don't want to spend all my time looking for my lost arrows. I hope to be bringing some goods to trade, elm and/or hickory staves, maybe some rivercane, obsidian chunks and some deer leg sinew, among other things. My father will also most likely be coming. He doesn't make bows or shoot, but he's pretty interested in the event.
Kyle
-
Don't sweat it Kyle, we look for arrows behind every target we shoot "at" :)
-
Bright arrows are easier to find in the skunk cabbage and leaves.

its about time you started speaking up we are going to need some of you youngsters( LoL) to get involved if we are going to keep this going for the next 25yrs
should be a good one this year but as far as I am concerned every time we do this thing we pay tribute to Norm
What we do special this year is up to you so take the lead on it and we will jump in behind you

I'll be there Wednesday. not sure if I'm taking the whole day off or working a part day. Either way my tent will be set up by sundown. hey Guy any chance we can get in the clubhouse Wednesday or Thursday so we could put those pork shoulders in the fridge?
-
Man I sure am going to miss you all this year! :'( I finally got to meet almost everyone that I have looked up to PA over the years. I made some good friends and got to hang out with some of the best people on the planet at the events I've been to. I have only been to Marshall just the one time but it's one of my favorites and a beautiful place as well.
Mike, I got the chance to meet Norm last year when I was there. I also managed acquire a few of his atlatal darts that I am going to try and display in my house some how. I did get the opportunity to sit down and visit with him for a while. He is definitely a top notch guy for sure. If there is anything I can do to help with acknowledging him please don't hesatate to ask me. I can send something to you if that would help.
I will be putting this event on the calendar for next year! I'll plan on camping as long as possible as well. I will miss you guys throughly this year. Please take a ton of pictures and make a detailed post of the goings on! :BB :-K (SH) (=)
Patrick
-
Sorry you won't be able to make it Patrick. Hopefully it works out for next year.
Mike, I will try to come up with something for Norm.
-
Patrick really going to miss you. Glad to have met you and Eric. Good Luck settling in at your new place. Hope you get some more time to make some bows. Really hoping to see you next year.
Bjrogg
-
Paul I think we should have access to refrigerate the meat
Ya Patrick we will miss you but as for pictures well you will have talk someone less busy than me to take time out thefun for that , not sure what that takes , I hope somehow it happens cause its hard to tell folks what goes on here and pics might help
Maybe one day the good Lord will bless me with a trip to Missouri !
Take care freind and get us on your calendar now
-
hey folks, if you guys would like to give something to Norm that would be great... but I'm making a plaque and was hoping everyone would sign it.. so please dont feel like ya gotta make something.. again if ya want to thats great to
-
Well, If I get there this year, it will likely be solo. My darling wife will be busy as heck the whole week prior chairing a National Conference for one of her professional organizations. It's likely that I'll be similarly engaged in a support role for at least part of that time, so my own options are getting substantially narrowed out as well... :(
I'm still looking to coordinate some sort of option to make it work out, but I'm not sure yet.
JonW and DVS - either of you guys likely to make it? Care to share a ride and camp gear? Dave, you likely don't need any convincing to go to another primitive bow event, but I'm sure you'd enjoy this one! Jon - They had a very limited use of Holy Belt Sander tillering technique last year. You could count this as an evangelistic/missionary journey!

Most of you folks that have been there will recognize where these pics go to except for the first one as most of you don't go back to the old campground down the road
the rest are simple new stairs to the range, new crossing from the range .......
skunk cabbage aint to tall YET!
-
wow! the steps and bridges look great, Cody... count me in for one of those vice's
-
Looks like some real fine carpentry work there, nicely done. Won't be long and we'll all be walking those trails and searching for errant arrows in the skunk cabbage. :)
-
I like how you think Mr. Arnold ;)
-
Looks great.
-
I can't wait to get there...one of my favorite shoots.... ..
-
I've been making arrows every chance I get. Got about 2/3rds. of my sugarbeets planted before we got al this rain again. Hope they come up. Gonna be awhile before we get back in the fields again. Always like the dry springs better than the wet ones. (R

Since everybody has headed to Tennessee I guess it's time to ramp it up for Marshall
In 3 weeks I will be heading that way so I best get busy

-

bad of shap as the old truck is I may wish that I had a mule
-
My camper roof has been getting a real test ever since I pulled it out of the shop. Everything like looks good so it doesn't have to rain on Marshall. Hopefully it'll get this 38 degrees and raining out of it system by then. I tried to talk wife into packing up and heading for Tennessee Classic, I'm not gonna be planting anything this week but she said no. Guess I'll see if I can get some more arrows made. I'm working on on bendy handle bow for my daughter and wife to share. Neither have ever shot a bow before.
Bjrogg
-
Nothing but great weather for Marshall LOL
Did we make a decision on specialty contest for this year?
I like either the hatchet bow or Limbow. Ideas but wish the rest of you would chime in
Soon as I get a minute I will try to put together a bit of a schedule
-
Been an interesting spring for me. Had a cross-country roadtrip planned that got derailed due to car troubles. Didn't plan on being in Michigan still, but here I am.
If the car issues are completely ironed out in the next couple weeks I'm planning on being there. I have a couple bows I'll be working on from now until then, and then I'll probably bring one to make my Marshall project for the inevitable late night or two. Going to be helping a buddy of mine take his first crack at making a bow in the coming weeks too. Might be able to talk him into coming down, if he has the time/wants to.
He has a lot of really awesome skills too. He's one of the ones who taught me brain tanning, he does a lot of other wood working, makes great jerky, and a lot of other cool stuff. He'd fit right in. Hair probably isn't as long as mine, but his feet are probably gnarlier.
-
Good to hear from you
sounds like a good plan to me
-
Guy....Here is a little something for the raffle table .......................
Sinew Backed Osage Recurve
58" ntn, 28# @ 26" tillered to 28"
Rat Snake over the sinew.
Six matching river cane arrows
Wild Turkey fletching wrapped with thread
Self nocks and seed bead indicator with Yellow tracers
Duplex nail target points.
Thanks to my youngest daughter for modeling the bow....

A few more

And a few more

Mr. Bill that is one heck of a sweet donation. The arrows alone are awesome. My girls are all lefties except for my daughter in law "Peachie" and I just made her one. I guess a girl never can have to many bows right?
Bjrogg

Nakedfeet, sounds like he'd fit right in. Always room for somebody that makes great jerky.lol. I sure hope he can make it

What a rig, Bill!! There'll be some "enthusiastic" bidding for that.

Great looking bow and arrows Bill. Very generous of you.

That is very generous of you Bill, and with such a beautiful bow!
-
I have 2 bags of frozen shrimp that didn't get used at The Classic. I'm not into cheffing, ;) Any of you guys confident ya could put 'em to good use at Marshall?
-
Ya know dbar or pauly can, both great cooks
-
I'm sure thinking we can figure out something to do with them Knoll.
Bjrogg

It would make good catfish bait Knoll

I believe Bill and Paul have demonstrated they deserve the moniker, "chef". O:)

Don't worry Clint we will make some chicken tenders for ya

-
Better be a plate full, Clint can put away some tenders!!
Those were the best tenders ever. I'm already looking forward to going back next year.
-
WOW Dbar! That is a wonderful bow. The reflex in the unstrung profile is amazing. I bet it'll really zip a light weight arrow down range.
How long ago was the sinew set on the bow? I'm wondering if it is likely to continue to gain poundage overtime...
OneBow
-
Thanks Guys.....small token compared to the work the guys do to put this event on every year. Just hope to keep it coming back year after year.
Eric, I put the sinew on mid December, and I have monitored the poundage, and I have to say it has not picked up any weight at all.... I sinewed this bow in my basement which in the winter stays less than 20% RH. And in six weeks the sinew was dry. If I remember right about 900 grs of deer leg sinew. again hasn't pick up a pound as far as I can tell....I've done a few sinewed backed bows at this time of year with the same results.
I have shot this bow a lot, and it really wings a light weight matching arrow. Hope some sweet lady or a cute youngster ends up with it after Marshall...
Can't wait until then

Nice rig Bill, very cool of you to donate that set up.
I'm looking VERY forward to hanging with you boys again. I might even make a curl or two, who knows. Jeany and I should be around Wednesday afternoon.

If all continues to go smooth, I should be rolling in sometime Friday afternoon. I can't wait, I've heard so many good things. 8)

Hey Guy was there something said last year about us having fires in the backfield? it was never a problem before but should we plan on bringing a pit with us? for some reason I remember someone getting upset about us building fires on the ground

We have one of those patio fire pits I can bring. Its not made for a roaring fire, but it can handle a decent size to cook on or sit around.

I think guy told me up front if you wanted a fire to dig it out then replace the sod when done. We didn't even bother starting one. I would like to get one of those patio ones like Pearl has. One of my cousins uses a old clothes washer drum at his property, works pretty good actually.
We're hoping to get there wen. but I'm getting further behind every day. Still cold and wet here. Had heavy frost again yesterday morning. The little bit I do have planted would rather be back in the seed boxes. Sure hope to get caught up, I don't want to miss this. The silver lining is my camper roof seem
weather tight.

lots of flights coming to O'Hare bubby.
my daughter will be coming with me on Wednesday followed by my wife and younger one on Saturday. Down at the classic brother Dan's granddaughter let my daughter help her with her lemonade stand. so now she's bound and determined to set up a lemonade stand at Marshall. So bring your quarters boys she's tough sales person.... just ask mullet and pappy
-
Just so that a quarter doesn't become $2.37 after taxes, duties, and surcharges.
-
Can see I'm gonna have to bring a bunch of quarters with me. Not going to be able to resist that sales lady. At least if there aren't any frogs or tadpoles in it.
Bjrogg

I'm not a lemonade drinker but I'll certainly buy some ice water.

Ice water for me too please

Actually Paul she could probably sell me a lemonade with a tadpole in it if the price wasn't to high.lol. and I'm more of a ice water guy to.
Bjrogg

I'm sure I'll stop by and pick up a few of those lemonades

She is so damn cute and bossy you wont have a choice but to buy her out of stock! You'll see :)

W e l l l l l, Mr Drums, the "Rylie saga" has been an ongoing drama. It was battle between softball camp and Marshall. She wanted to do both but it's difficult to be in 2 places at once.
Compromise has been reached and, as of today, she IS coming along! Gramps is a happy camper.
But, with a 13-yr-old, plans could change tomorrow. (-P
-
That's a great decision, if you ask me. The friendships and memories are something she can continue to enjoy and carry with her for life . Sports are over when school is over. That being said, I get it. Basketball was everything to my boys, now, not so much after both finished their last seasons.
-
Looks like Dave, couple of his kids, and I will be there Thu afternoon.
Man I wish I could hitch a ride with your caravan Mike. Especially if there was a chance that there would be some apple pie from captain redbeard! But I think the wife might loose that last nerve she keeps talking about.
Although she might find it if I spent a weekend in Marshall! (R (=) :BB :OK
Patrick

I'm looking forward to seeing big Dave again. Been about 4-5 years I'm thinking.
-
If we can get kiddos outta bed and into vehicles at early hour, we should roll in mid/late afternoon Thu. If not, ? ? ? ? ? ? ?
Nina and Marley (Dave youngest) should hit it off smashingly!

Pop tarts and orange juice are good bribing tools.

How old is Marley?

6 or 7 ... going on 22. ;)

And the queen of mojam! :OK
Well, I had a talk with my wife then made a phone call to Mr DVS. Ill be hitching a ride with them. Thank you Mr. Hill for the early morning message.
Got one favor to ask, does anyone have a tent I could use. All I have is that giant tent we had up there last year. Just need something I could put a cot in and my clothes. Thanks! (R (-S (W (S)
Patrick
-
Glad to hear you have Dave coming this year Mike, we missed not seeing both of you guys down at TN and Smokey missed Marley.
Great news that your making it too Patrick, I don't have a tent but I'm sure someone will come up with one.
We're going to shoot for making it up on Wed. night if I can get my work done by then. Really looking forward to seeing all the good people there again.
-
Jean was just asking when Sharona was going to be there. She isn't sure she can last the duration with me, so she may drive up later in the week when Julie and Breezy arrive.
Patrick I sent you a text. Ill hook you up with my two man Kelty and a foam pad. Super easy set up and plenty of room to change clothes. Let me know if you need any other bulky items you cant haul up.
-
Patrick I have a 6 person dome tent with two closets attached. I haven't used it in a few years but if Pearls tent doesn't work out let me know. I'm hoping to get there Wednesday but I just finished planting sugarbeets yesterday and am very far behind so at this point I'm just really hoping I make it period. Man it's really coming fast now.

Thanks fellas! Bj, I think ill take Pearl up on his tent. But thanks for the offer buddy.

Well no just totally approved time off from work. I said I was gonna make it this year! I'm looking forward to seeing all you guys again. My kids were bummed out when u told them we weren't going to Tenn. This year, but man they did peek up when I told them about Marshall!
Pat should be here Wednesday night and I will have these kids up and on the road early. It's funny how plans can come together, fall apart, rebuild, and just get better!

That's awesome Dave

Sure is a-a-ron, sure is. Gonna be great this year. Weather is looking cool. I love that.

If I'm not on the list, add me in. I am making arrows and packing the truck. I should be there mid day thursday, with my dad. First time, really looking forward to it.

I had you counted, Kyle. The weather is looking just perfect for us great white northerners. Shouldn't see 70 degrees.

And if the PA "small fry" and significant partners contingents are included, we'll have 40+ !
-
Man I sure am excited about going to Marshall this year! I was pretty sure I wasn't going to make it.
I think Dave and I are planning on some kind of fish fry. Im bringing a good sized bag of white bass!
I'm also hoping someone there will have some atlatal darts. Or the makings for them. I really want to throw some. I only get to do that at the events. Ill have a thrower.
Are you guys still doing the trade blanket? If so ill have a ton of glue on 11/32 nocking points. I came into about a thousand of them. I can bring feathers to, none will be processed. I plan on bringing some rawhide strips for the auction, not sure what else. Can't wait!!!
Patrick
-
Man we are glad too Patrick
Don't think I have any darts left but kinda remember seeing some cane shaft in and If I can remember I'll thru it in so you canapé some be glad to trade it for most anything as my arm don't go over my head so good anymore so no need of me having darts
-
Ok folks it's about crunch time
Pack everything you can then pack some more
Don't forget your Hawks cause we are throwing Hawks too
-
Man we are glad too Patrick

Patrick

Glad you are coming back Patrick.
I have a hawk I've never thrown Guy. I'll bring it for sure.
-
And no farting in my tent, Pat-trick.
-
And no farting in my tent, Pat-trick.
I'm going to need to use that tent for a few minutes >:D
-
I can't garonte anything Chris!
I'll stop by the RRII for a few minutes while your in the bow shop and leave you a present Clint! It should linger around in there for quite some time.
Wish I had a hawk, I would for sure bring it! Haven't thrown one in a really long time.
Patrick
-
We need to be SURE we get a group PA photo before we disband, fellas. Don't let me forget :)
That's a real good idea Pearl.

While I was down at the classic I admired Pappy's cooking grate for fire cooking. I had some scrap steel around the house and I grabbed a piece of expanded metal from our shop I work at and welded this up this afternoon. we're going to give it a test run it Marshall seems like it should definitely do the trick
-
I'll be bringing more of those marinated deer steaks Paul. We can test it out with those. Maybe I can talk Bill into frying some taters and bacon to go with it.
-
That looks nifty, Mr Pauly. A friend has one and uses mucho.
-
That looks great Paul! I may have to make myself one of those! I got a buddy that works with stainless, probably get the scrap from him.
Patrick
-
Ill have some chicken to toss on that. MMMMMM......Eating/cooking is one the highlights for me.
-
Paul would you make me one please ??? ;)
-
Paul, could you take a better picture of how it attaches to the post please? Trying to figure out materials. Thanks!
Patrick
-
For us first-timers, is there water (drinking, cooking, dishwashing) available on site? I thought I had read there were showers. I am trying to get a list of everything to pack, it's getting LONG.
Kyle
-
I've been biting my tongue, genuflecting frequently, and keeping my fingers crossed hoping things might turn out to where I could make it, ...but alas I'm pretty certain now that I will not be able. Work has called for me to come into the office on Thursday to do a presentation to our sales guys and get them ready to talk about our new offering. I'm not yet ready and it will take a solid week to get ready. So, ...no last minute miracle opening in the plans for me. :'( :'( :'( I am seriously jealous of you all but I hope you have a wonderful event. Stay safe, take pictures, post them after (they do me no good on your i-phone!), and for heaven's sake, TRY to keep Mike from getting lost!

There is a clubhouse with very nice restrooms and showers. I think there is a water hydrant to fill up your containers. Limited electricity up front. Peaceful quiet camping in the back field. Except for that one guy who liked to chop firewood at 6 am a couple of years ago.
-
Sorry you won't be able to make it Onebow. Start planning for next year.
-
Yup, hydrant is located right by the pavilion. Its good, cold well water.
-
Kyle don't worry too much about getting "everything" packed. Town is just a skip away and they have all the stores you might need to visit.
-
That's true Pearl but once I get there I would hate to leave. Might miss something
-
I'm more concerned with forgetting a tool, a stave, a box of stuff to trade. I've done enough primitive camping to be comfortable without most "necessaries." And like Danzn Bar said, once camped, I hate leaving. I make a grudging exception for ice runs.
-
Its looking like very ice-friendly weather coming up. I can dig that.
-
Man Eric I sure am sorry your not going to make it! :'( I'll do my best to keep the bells tied to Mike's shoelaces. We don't need another "incident", way to many woods around camp for that!
Pearl, that weather sounds great! Better than last year. Is was so hot and humid it wasn't funny. We drove 14 hours north to the land of evergreens and snow just to find heat and humidity! It was actually cooler in South West Missouri!
But what a show of hospitality! Even changed the weather to remind us of home. FYI, I'm not a huge fan of the heat either brother! (S)
Patrick
-
Ill be making plenty of dust this year, last year I was worthless in that humidity. I have a few yew projects and an osage pole bow that needs tweaking and shot-in.
-
I'll believe it when I see it
-
I hear ya Chris! And Paul!
I have a couple of prime Missouri ozarks Osage staves that need to be a bow. You know, the kind you guys throw away! >:D I also got a piece of yew I might need some help with. Its almost ready to brace.
Patrick
-
I've been making good progress planting now, still a lot behind but this warm two days here are really helping. I was really worried about my Sugar Beets. My brother's where almost ready to work them up. I think there gonna make it. See you guys soon

Paul, could you take a better picture of how it attaches to the post please? Trying to figure out materials. Thanks!

Just like Bub said
-
Wow a weekend and three more working days.......Clint and RRII can't get here soon enough and then on our way north... :) I feel like a kid at Christmas
DBar
-
Thanks Paul and DBar. I may have to do square stock over square stock with T handle to lock it in place. At least if I want to get free material. Thanks again!
Worked on a new set of handles for my new flea market find draw knife today. Just got to finish shaping and peen a washer on the bottom. Made from an Osage sapling. Cant wait to use it. Been wanting a heavier draw knife like this for a while.
Patrick
-
I went back a few pages and saw that D-bar posted pics of the bow he's donating. I saw it and held it in my hands at the Classic a couple weeks ago and it is one of the nicest bows I've seen. My wife and grandson each got to tug on the string and both are hoping to win this beauty, so bring your dollars fellas. This is a bow I think you'll be impressed with, Bill killed it on this one.
-
Getting closer now. I'm very excited to see all you boys again and hang out. Jeany's plans have changed based on the cold, damp weather we are going to have. She will probably come down Saturday morning and stay the night. I plan on pulling in around 5 on Wednesday night. That's 5 pm EST for all you westerners. :)
-
That will give you plenty of time to roll out the red carpet I'm expecting
-
Already have it loaded my friend. Jean vacuumed it for you.
-
Well....not exactly an ideal thing to wake up to this morning. We'll see if I can still make it now haha. :o

Any of you folks that are going to be there Thursday night we have a bit of potluck going for you at 530
join us at the pavilion bring your table ware and something to drink and planning on doing soups and anything else you want to share
very informal family meal
see y'all soon
-
Ain't nothing a little duct tape can't fix! I hope everything else is ok! :-\
Looking forward to it guy, hopefully we will be there around that time. Since us westerners have an extra hour on our side!
Patrick
-
Perfect soup weather, Guy! Ill see what I can scrounge up to share.
-
ooooo weee... so close can almost taste it.
-
Im doing most of my packing today because I wont have time during the week, or tomorrow. Seeing my gear piled up on the garage floor just makes it harder to wait for Wednesday!
-
We are aiming for early jump off time Thu morn.
Will check slingshot stock and see if there's anything worth haulin' along.
-
So I just the all clear from the wife to come for the first time this year. Is that hatchet bow contest still a thing, and can I just use my KaBar instead of a hatchet? Those are too heavy and awkward for me. Also, i need an address to google maps my way there.
-
Its called Wilder Creek Conservation Club in Marshall Michigan, not sure of the street address?
-
I looked around at what I have left to do before heading to the Dancing Bears house for a ride north. I don't see how I'll be able to get ready and packed on Tuesday in the few hours I'll have free. Looks like I'll have to take Monday of work :P
-
Here you go!
Wilder Creek Conservation Club, 19833 D Dr S, Marshall, MI 49068
Clint, don't worry about work on Monday. It will be there when you get back.
Patrick
-
We were hit hard with storms again here in Ohio
Kinda bad when you have to drive 30 mile just to get phone service LOL
Don't bother us old timers much but the younger ones did not know how to take it I should have set up a stand to sell money today could have gotten rich off the folks who's plastic wasn't any good for buying anything
II kinds enjoyed watching them squirming LOL
SEE YA SOON
-
"D" Drive is a sneaky angled road, watch for the event sign or its easy to drive right by.
-
The weather looks a little wet for Wednesday but great the rest of the week.
-
That's where that giant, finely appointed pavilion comes in real handy. We can stay dry, warm and busy under that baby.
-
You guys have fun, gonna miss y'all
-
For some reason that address takes me west on Ddrive you need to go a little further north where Ddrive goes east.
Directions
Take I-94 to F drive exit (1 south of Marshall)
East on F drive to 19 1/2 mile ( about 2 miles)
Turn left (north) on 19 1/2 mile to D drive S.
Turn right on D drive S Wilder Creek is on your left.
Ps D drive will go west ( left) don't take that keep going a little further around a curve to where it goes east (right) (=)
Bjrogg
-
Thanks bj, I got it off their webpage.
Patrick
-
Patrick that's the same one I used last year. It's close but not quite. I put it in my phone and Garmin and both turned me left on D drive.
Can't wait to see you all. I just about got my soybeans all planted but now it's raining again. I'm still hopeful to get there Wednesday afternoon but that could change. I will be there for sure though 😊

Well....not exactly an ideal thing to wake up to this morning. We'll see if I can still make it now haha. :o
<snip>
DANG Bowmo! If you didn't want to go to Marshall you could've just said so. No need to cave in the whole roof of your ride to make an excuse! :o 8) >:D
Seriously though, that tree looks like it's got nearly NO root ball at all. How the heck did it stay standing as long as it took to grow that tall! Please tell me your dog was not in the truck when the tree fell?
I sincerely hope you cut at least a stave or two from that log. It should be pretty good mojo. I mean apparently that tree was trying to get your attention. Can't tell for sure from what I see in the picture but it looks like a White Oak. It could make a half decent bow. ...and you won't even have to cut the tree down first! ;)
OneBow

I sincerely hope you cut at least a stave or two from that log.
... it looks like a White Oak.
That was my first thought too, but I think it's actually maple. And my last experience with wind-fall maple was not good at all....

You guys check it out and bring some extra bucks....I just got through shooting her a little bit for the last time, and it draws smooth. Any child maybe I should say young adult and lady could shoot this. I shot a 3D round at Moon Tree and did pretty well. Would really like to raise a few bucks for the club, so bring some extra this year. The six arrows goes with it. Check it out on page 14.......
Thanks,
DBar
-
I'll be dropping some tickets on it Bill. My daughter would like a new bow.
-
Man DBar! I heard about the bow but couldn't find it in the thread until you posted what page it was on. I can't wait to see that one in person.
Just got back from the St. Louis zoo with my wife. Now its Tim to get packed! Going to make some deer jerky, tonight and tomorrow, to share with everyone.
Ill be headed to Daves house Wednesday about noon. Then on to Marshall!
Its getting close fellas!
Patrick
-
See you soon pat. I'll final pack Wednesday night and we are off and running Thursday morning.
-
I also found a few wild turkey thighs and kegs if anyone has some good ideas for them?

Finally finished today creating new flower garden for The Wife.
Feel less guilty now for anticipating the good times to come later this week!

She put her foot down when I tried to plant some of my arrowwood and red osier dogwood in there.

Looks good Mike! You will just have to plan some of that arrow wood in your own flower bed.
Patrick

I won't be making it this year. Hope the weather is good you all have a good time.
-
Well that sucks Paul! Hopefully you can swing by elm hall in August.

Bummer Paul, I have some bows I wanted to show you. I did finish one from that piece of Elm you gave me. Guess we'll have to get together another time.

Hey, I'm looking for a kinky osage stave. If anybody has one, please bring it!

Hey, I'm looking for a kinky osage stave. If anybody has one, please bring it!
What kind of kinky?
-
Like threesome kinky? Or, fish bowl and house keys kinky? Need some clarification :)
-
I found one of my osage staves lying in a pile with some black locust and mulberry staves once. Shocked, I said, come on man, you guys are cousins!
-
Do you want one with a knot hole in it ;D
-
Or maybe 2 knot holes :o ;D

Ok, that was funny! ;D :OK

Well, you know. I knew I'd get some attention anyways using the "kinky" word.
-
You know what they say Matty, "If the shoe fits". :) :) :) :)
Looking forwards to seeing you and Heather in a few days.
-
I liked that one to Sleek.
Ya Paul if you hear about date for Tuscola give me a shout. I think last year it was on my granddaughter's birthday party. Still might be able to sneak a shoot in though. I think Bruce goes to that shoot to. He told me it's a really nice shoot. I think he told me Tuscola and Elm Hall where his favorite.

Whats worse, it didnt even have its bark on!
There is a hard wood joke in there somewhere

Packing has commenced. Moved camping gear from shed to garage. Now just steps to the car.

Mike - Get a couple of the younger guys, (just about anybody there will qualify), to lift that blue tub for ya. I suspect it has to be your Mango supply. The other tub is too small. ;) ;D

I got everything loaded today except for my clothes. I'll be heading to the Dancing Bears house early Wednesday morning. See you guys in the afternoon.

I'm still working at catching up farming. I don't have anything packed up yet, but I did finish planting soybeans last night. Hopefully today get some navy bean ground prepared for planting when I get back. I'm thinking either packing or leaving tomorrow. See you guys soon, praying for safe travels for everyone.

Good to hear BJ, I didn't realize you were a row croper. Lots of work there. I used to be a dairy farmer, had 200 head of holsteins. We also done oats, fescue, and a lot of hay. We also done a lot of hay. Did I say we put up a lot of hay! I dont miss that part to much, done mostly square bails and for some reason I always ended up stacking. But I was good at it, never had a stack fall. Even the free standing ones. I do miss the farm though, always something to do and normally plenty of it. It was my grandpa 's farm but Mom, Dad my 2 brothers and I lived on it and worked the farm to.
Plus it was some of the best deer hunting in the county in my book!
Patrick
-
I didn't realize you grew up on a dairy farm Patrick. I did to. I still remember milking cows with buckets, and carrying all the milk to the tank. I remember when we got a pipeline system, wow did that save work. Of course we had to milk more cows then and put up more hay so not sure how much work it really saved. My dad sold the cows when I went to electronics school in 1979. I came back to the farm in 1984 and borrowed $$$ to buy fresh heifers. I remember pay 14 and 18 % interest and being nervous about borrowing that money. My dad told me " if you ain't got anything, they can't take anything away from you". I've been in debt ever since. My brother and I sold our cows in 1992. Not many small dairy operations anymore. I love the farm. I love planting seeds and watching them grow. It's a lot of work and very risky business but good lord willing I'm going to keep doing it till someone kicks me outta here. It sure has changed a lot in my lifetime, even more in my dad's.
Bjrogg
-
By the way Patrick, nothing quite like stacking bales in a nice hot hay loft. The water hole sure feels good at the end of the day.
Bjrogg
-
I miss those hay lofts and the heat but hope I never have to pull another calf
Folks don't know what a bad job is if they have not been there and done that
See y'all real soon

Yup Guy, it's really funny in a way. We had so many bad jobs when I was a kid that you just tried to get the best bad job. One thing we learned very young was never to complain about being bored. That would for sure get you a bad job. We learned to entertain our selves with what we had. Guess all that made me the person I am today, hopefully that's a good thing. I love to keep busy, but once and awhile I can nap half the Sunday and be totally satisfied.
Bjrogg
-
I've got toadstools growing in some of the gardens. So maybe we have a shot at doing some mushrooming up there.
-
That would be a real treat if we found some. All the rain that is coming in the next 2 days might make a few later bloomers pop up.
-
The anticipation is killing me
-
Guys, the "back 40" area is gonna be almost crowded!
p.s. . . . that's a good thingy
-
The first year I went to Marshall I found my way back there. Not a soul around, so I pitched my camp and was alone all weekend. The following year I talked Pauly into driving up and meeting me, it was just he and I back there. Now, its packed (er)! Wilder Creek is all class and I love knowing they are making more and more money to continue on.
-
So, the back 40 is the unofficial PA camping place? Is it easy to find or do I just ask directions when I get there? I'll have a tent, so no hookups needed. Can't wait, weather looks decent once the rain moves out.
Kyle
-
Follow the vehicle track through main area (past pavilion), through a lil wooded area (practice range on right), and you'll come out in the "back 40"!
-
As good as she is shooting she may only need two or three.......
Good shooting Rylie!!!!!
DBar

I need to give that jug shoot a try this year. I never have.
-
Bringing some junk arrow Chris!
Im looking forward to the running squirrel shoot. I all but missed it last year. Getting stuff together tonight! Loading in the morning then heading to Daves house. That is if I get this kitchen cleaned up. I have made a real mess!
Patrick
-
Running squirrel?
Let's pair up for jug shoot, Mr Drums.
-
No excuses pearly! My money is on pops
-
Yeah Mike, last year they had some dish targets on a track running up and down a log.
Patrick
-
I'm bringing a bunch of arrows. I've never done the jug shoot either. I'd like to try it this year.
-
Not sure I will sleep but going to lay down a bit anyway as y'all know how much sleep that I will get this week.
I just need to toss in some food and I will be outa herein the morning
please throw in any light weight bows and arrows you have that you could loan out to first time guests and be prepared for passing on your gift of knowledge
thank you folks so much for coming out to play this week
see ya soon
-
Guy, one of reasons we'll be there is to once again see your ugly mug and shake your gentle hand.
Yep, see ya in a couple!
-
I got my stuff loaded but still have the rest to load. Finish in morning and head out. Be safe everyone. See you all in a bit.
Bjrogg
-
Like I said no sleeping in when its time for the greatest event and the best of folks are coming together
-
Sounds good to me, Mike. I have plenty of arrows loaded up.
-
I don't have a ton of arrows, other than what I shoot. But I might have a bow I could bring.
YYou guys are right, not much sleep but hopefully in about 6 hours ill be leaving my house. Then about this time tomorrow morning we will be on our way!
Another Southern Boy invasion of the north! See you all soon!
Patrick
-
Grabbed some smoked cheddar and horseradish cheese last night. I'm ready to sample your venison sausage.
-
The Disco Bear and myself are on the road. Should be there around 1 or so. I'm running on less than 2 hours of sleep :P
-
Be safe, Clint!
-
Everybody please take lots of pictures and post them for us poor saps that can't make it!
Neal
-
I'm gutted I won't be there this year. I need to rebuild the porch on my house, and this weekend is the only one I was able to get some help on it. Please have fun & be safe. I've been out of the game for a while, but I feel the itch again.
-
What the? A porch is stopping you J-Syn? Henry will be graduated by the time we see him again.
-
The porch is rotting off the house, and will take some of the roof with it if it goes. This does mean that I NEED to make it to Elm Hall this year...
-
I get ya', but I don't have to like it :)
Elm Hall sounds good to me. Im sure you will enjoy it just as much.
-
Is there any rule on arrow material for the jug shoot? If not, might be a good use for some of my aluminums that have missing fletchings and whatnot. I only have a handful of junky wood arrows -- but a bunch of aluminums.
-
Someone explain the jug shoot to me. Why would we want to use junk arrows?
-
Aaron, 2 plastic gallon water/milk jugs filled with water.
Each jug attached to opposite ends of length of rope. Rope (and jugs) suspended over wood framework and rope passes through some pulleys.
Idea is to punch holes through "your" jug and drain water outta "your" jug . . . before your opponent does same to "his" jug.
Jug that sinks to ground 1st loses.
I know, clear as mud. :o
-
Sounds like fun, but why junk arrows?
-
No idea. Mine won't be junk. Welllllll, others may consider them so. ;)
-
I would save the junk arrows for the across the lake bear target
-
Sounds like fun, but why junk arrows?
Shooting in and out of the plastic jug could tear them up, they could stick in the jug weird and get shot by your other arrows, hit the ground and bend/break when/if your jug hits the ground, etc.
Obviously nice, well tuned arrows will give you the best accuracy, but it's at a fairly close range if I remember correctly. There are just a lot of factors that could mess up a set of nice arrows.
Maybe "junk" isn't what you want to use, but you probably don't want to use your best arrows either.
-
I would save the junk arrows for the across the lake bear target
How far would you estimate that shot is?
-
50 yards or so
-
Thank Paul
-
Time to start loadin' up. UGHHH! Much more fun to unload . . . at destination!!
-
I'm not running it but, I'm mostly certain wood arrows with only field points for the jug shoot. No blunts, Judo's, broadheads, modified nails, etc. This is a primitive shoot. Selfbows with wood arrows. If I'm speaking in error, please correct me if I'm wrong, Guy.
-
That's what I thought, and figured as much, Matt.
-
At the shell station on F drive. Better fuel up in case I blow my$$$$ before I head home
Bjrogg
-
It will be ready as soon as we get there Chris!
Well made it to Daves house about 345. We pretty much have everything loaded and ready to go! Gotta put a little food in and we will be headed out about 630 central time! See you all tomorrow after noon!
Patrick
-
Aaron, if you have heaver arrows you will probably blow through the jug. The shot I remember was more like 20 yards or less. They have a big backstop behind the jugs so dont worry about loosing an arrow.
Last year I shot 3 of my new arrows right in half and tore off a fletch.
Patrick
-
At my dad's for the night. We'll be headed out at 0330, should be there late morning or so.
Kyle

So far I've been remembering to take pictures, can't post em yet but been taking some.

Set the camper up by the Bitterman's and dropped the Little Woman and Wee-Wicki off last night. Then had to leave back for home. I'll be back on Friday after work. Little Dan wasn't out of the truck for 1 minute when he found some friends to run around with.
-
Good to hear Matt!
Well we are on the way! Eta around 3pm your time! See you soon, tell Chris Gault to stop posting pictures of bow work on Facebook until I get there! :BB
Patrick
-
Well, I thought o might have been able to make it for the weekend, but life has a habit of getting in the way, so I don't think I'll be able to make this one!!:( Miss you all and can't wait till things calm down and I can get back to building more!
-
We'll certainly miss you, Cody. Tell the "Little Woman" I said, Hi.
-
The weather has been damp, not a lot of rain but some showers. It sure didn't hurt the turnout in the pavilion. Lots of bowyers, great to see and meet. Nice and cool to work on projects. I'm doing better this year at figuring out who is who. I'm sure my wife knows all the kids and who they belong to by now. Taking lots of pictures will try to continue through the weekend
Bjrogg

Im about 8 hours away, got a very late start buildung a wooden camoer to camp in.
-
It sure has turned out to be an awesome time so far! The trade blanket was a lot of fun! We all got some great trades and ended up with some beautiful stuff to!
Good to hear you're getting close sleek
-
The weather was perfect yesterday, rained a little last night after 11:00 but beautiful sunrise this morning. I went to the shower about 11:00pm. Snapped a picture of a very full and busy pavilion, sure is a lot of yellow dust and shavings going in the fireplace. :BB :OK. Sat around Bruce and Cindy's (=). I think everyone enjoyed the trade blanket even those who just watched (-P. I know I did and I'm so glad to see some of my stuff go to a new good home and thrilled with the stuff I received. I don't know Sleek yet but I'm guessing that was him that just drove in.

First off everyone who made it here great to see you all again and also many to meet for first time. A safe trip home to all. This meet was just fantastic. After a fantastic day of visiting with Jeb and his wife, Steve and Frank. Shooting bow and helping my wife get started shooting her first bow, we had a full pavilion for a delicious pot luck meal. Following our meal we had our auction and raffle drawing. I might not have played my cards right to get a badly bent bow at the trade blanket but I managed to buy the winning ticket to get one at the raffle, Thanks Greg. After the drawing we had a very entertaining jug shoot. We ended up shooting till we couldn't see any more as it just got to dark. A bit after the jug I believe we managed to gather 23 PA members for a group picture. I know a few had already left but it's a great picture. The pavilion was busy the entire time we were here, from Wednesday till the end. I think our picture really shows how inclusive our group is. I'm sure proud to be part of it.

Hope everyone is having a blast this weekend! I got back from vacation at midnight on Friday and have been feeling sick for the last few days. Wish I could have made it but just wasn't in the cards this year. :'(
-
Just got home a few hours ago. What a great event. Meeting everyone face to face was super. The food was great, the trade blanket was entertaining and the shooting was great. I will definitely be back next year. Thank you to all who welcomed me and made great trades with me.
Kyle

Kyle,
I'm sooooo thankful you were there so Clint and I could get home.. :) ;)
DBar
-
You were a life saver today on the truck Kyle. Thank you so much. If it wasn't for you I think we would have been stuck there for a few more days until a mechanic could work on it.
-
It's the least I could do to repay all of you for the welcome you gave me. I hope the rest of your travel was a bit less stressful. Not that being stuck at Marshall for a few days would be terrible either though.
Kyle
-
I'm home safe. Pat is on his way. I'm loading pics and will post in abut when I'm in for the night, but DAMN! What an awesome event! I count ha e felt more at home in my own house.
-
We are home. No drama driving home, except Rylie's persistent nose bleed. That seems to be fine now.
Rylie commented that this year was more fun than last. I agree!
Pictures soon.

Words can't explain how great of a time I had at Marshall this year. It was 4 days of laughing, eating, making bows, shooting, and spending time with some of the best people walking this earth. I am truly blessed to call you guys my friends. It was nice to meet Kyle and Sleek. Thank you for the trades and truck repair Kyle. There was a good showing from the midwest, DVS, Patrick, Knoll, and A a ron. Thanks for making the trip guys.
Last year Paul Semp and myself agreed to do a bow swap at this years Marshall shoot. It was fun to hand him a bow and get one from him in return. I received a beautiful Elm bow, a first for me. Thank you for the bow Paul. I was also gifted a Badly Bent bow, something I have been wanting for quite a while now. Thank you Greg! Somehow I ended up trading Pearly for a bamboo backed Yew bow. Stixnstones gifted me a very cool custom knife. Thank you Mike. I can't wait to unload the camper tomorrow and look over all the stuff that I brought home.
The raffle table was the best I have ever seen at this shoot. I saw a lot of tickets being bought. Hopefully the club raised enough funds to help out with all of the improvements taking place. The back 40 will be the place to be next year with that new building.
I tried to take a lot of pictures. I can't wait to see everyone else's. I heard Knoll got some good ones >:D

What a great time guys! Lot of gift-giving happened at this Marshall. Like Clint said we agreed last year to do a bow Exchange. Just for future record anyone that makes Clint a bow needs to make it about 70 pounds at 26 inches so he'll get his 45 at 17 >:D. This is the second trip this year that was just me and my daughter going so my role has slightly changed at these shoots and I have a feeling they will for the next few years while I spend more time watching little ones instead of hanging with the adults. Wouldn't change it for the world though, she's meeting a lot of great kids from all over the country. got to meet a few new people like Aaron, DVS, sleek and Kyle and I'm sure I'm forgetting some. There was a showdown on The Milk Jug shoot for the six to eight year olds between Nina and her boyfriend Nate. She lost to the old crack shot but she was a trooper and it gave her an excuse just to give him a hug. did not get nearly as many pictures as I thought I should but here's what I got.
-
like Clint said the kids had a lemonade stand and Nina had no problem delegating jobs. they brought in almost $50 which I split up evenly with all the kids. thank you to all the adults that generously donated to keeping these kids busy for a few hours. in the five years I've been going to this shoot it is really grown and become quite an event for primitive archery once again. I highly recommend anyone who wants to be surrounded with no glass come. the only fiberglass you see is little kids which no one thinks twice about. put it on your calendars for next year. thanks again everyone
-
Nina with her new best friend Miss Marley. I also wanted to thank Bruce and Cindy for putting together the stuff for the kids. they fill up a couple hundred balloons and put a piece of candy in each one and let the kids fling every arrow they got and go collect. I know that's a highlight for most of them. Unfortunately I must not have taken a picture of that
-
I made it home safely, got here about 1130 central time. More tomorrow, crashing on my soft mattress now!

Great Pics Clint & Paul ! Thanks for sharing :OK . Bob

Looks like a great time had by all, thanks for sharing the stories and pictures. Pappy

I'll get some pics up soon enough. Another VERY memorable gathering. I haven't laughed so hard and so often in a long time. It felt great to relax and unwind. My new BFF Kath has a great sense of humor and she made me laugh a lot, got lucky there Lynch Mob :). The PA member turn out has went from 3 or 4 to 23 or 24 in 3 years. Its astonishing. Its amazing how quickly time can dissolve right before your eyes. It seems like Bill, Clint, Lynch Mob and I were just sitting under the new sun/rain shelter CLINT PAID NEW MONEY for. And to all ya'll from the south, Sleek, Dave, Mike, A-a-ron, Patrick and families thanks to ya'll for making the drive up eh'. Best I could tell there were 9 states and 2 countries represented. It was great to meet Kyle and his ol' man from the badger state. Couple of first class gentlemen who fit right in like 10 years vets to the shoot.
As Clint pointed out, Pauly spent nearly all his bow working time with a couple young men that needed his undivided attention to get much done. He gave it as he always does and that's why we all love the guy :)
Counting the days until next year folks, see some you sooner than later.
-
Few pics of Bill with his new bow and arras from Greg and I and A-a-ron setting camp. That's Bill cooking Clints food and a new fry pan Clint got for Bill. It'll hold a lot more bacon :)
-
Nice pic of barefoot Tony......with boots on. :)
Lynch Mob with a nice full draw of his Moontree hackberry special.
And then before and after pics of the pond. The new walk way over the dam was a nice, and needed this year. We may have got our paws wet had that not been built.
-
I wish I had gotten some pics, but my phone was non existent to me while tjere. Even my boy went without his phone without complaint.
We are not home yet. We stopped the night in ohio and rigjt now are on our way to do some gold and gem stone mining and possible cave exploration. This journey is a good one.
-
Nice pictures guys!I'm uploading my pics now. All 107 of em! I took a bunch. I'll be posting throughout the day hopefully.
Happy Memorial Day, and happy Birthday again Paul!
-
Have bunch of pictures to post.
But found some rather distressing images included, and have no idea how they got there . . . and . . . are proving to be quite stubborn about letting me delete. There's NO WAY moderators would allow these on this upstanding site!
More later . . . . . . .

You always have to watch the nice quiet ones

Oh yeah, HAPPY BIRTHDAY PAUL!

I agree Pauly, never trust the quiet ones. Greg has always been more than good to me, but I'll be watching him closer now.

Yeah.............you really got to watch the one's that bring their wife, dog and grandkids.....

Just cant say enough about this years gathering. Really wish i could post pics.. and of course i didnt take enough. My beautiful wife Cathi met up with us on friday and stayed til sunday, needless to say she had an amazing time. Within the first hour of being there she said "O.k... I love all these guys." Thanx guys for welcoming her with open arms. Didnt get much done as bow work goes, but spent a fair amount of time hanging with friends and making new friends. Can honestly say this was The Best Shoot Ever. Made a great trade with Bill... hackberry for hackberry, i love it bud. Met A-a-ron for the first time and he gave me a nice piece of osage... thanx again. We honored Norm Blaker with a signed plaque, thanking him for starting this event 24 yrs ago.... there's just so many things bouncing around in my head from this past few days that i cant possibly write it all down here. I cant thank all of ya"ll enough for being the good folk that you are. "Done had a good time"
-
Made it home will be a couple of days unpacking but any time I get a chance I will look thru the pics and find someone to pot for us
Thank you to all my PA family for helping out with another great event!
Should have taken A Pic when pulling out as for Wilder Creek looked a bit sad we were gone for another year
-
I'm glad you guys picked up the slack for me and made Mikey feel loved! Wish I coulda been there.
-
Wish I coulda been there.
Will be SUPER cool when that happens.
-
Jon, we tried to be as friendly and helpful to Knoll as possible >:D
Mike, your wife fit right in and was one of the "guys" in no time.
-
Well guy's this is my second trip to Marshall and I feel like its my second home now for sure. I feel honored to be part of the pa group that was there. And to be able to share camp with one of my best friends.
It never stops amazing me the amount of kindness and hospitality I have seen and received on my endevors to these typs of events. Wither its hitching a ride, borrowing a tent or the randome tool (even if you break it) or offering food and drinks or even saying, "take it home with you, and send me what you can when you can" you really don't know how much that means to me.
Some of you know Ive been pretty down on my luck recently and have quite a bit going on at home and with myself. I really appreciated the bend of your ears for a few minutes.
No one can begin to discribed the feeling you get when your only a few miles away and anticipating pulling in the gates. Or the feeling of pulling out on the last day after saying good by to all of your family that you can't wait to see again. Then talking about your experience for the next 8 hours with your good friend. Then thinking about your next trip until you finally pull into your own drive way after another 2.5 hours on the road. At that moment you realize the experience you just had was something special. And you can't wait till the next go around.
Who ever knew that playing with sticks and stones could ever be so much fun! A big thanks to Wilder Creek conservation Club and to all of my friends and family for making this trip so good.
P.S. Bill ill wear my new crown with honor! But hopefully after my doctors visit I'll be passing the champion ship "loudest snorer in camp" back to you next year!
Patrick

Susie and I just got home. The entire stay was fantastic but I really think Sunday night was almost my favorite. We already missed you all but still had a few diehards left. We came up with some real fun stuff for next year, all top secret but it's good. Next year is the 25th I can't wait. Only 358 more days

I really kick myself in the a$$ this year for missing the "bear shoot across the pond" when was it???
DBar
-
Yeah, I was all geared up to shoot the bear with my 100 pound war bow but never found out when.
-
Originally it was scheduled to be after adult jug shoots. But I think darkness overcame the schedule.
-
Wish I coulda been there.
Will be SUPER cool when that happens.
Yeah .. from what I here ....I'd like to meet ya..................see if it's all true.... :) ;)

Man talk about being thrown under the bus, thought you guys were my friends. ;D
Not sure what this camera business is about but if I were you Knoll I'd be questioning those dirty hippies that were beating the drum in the camp next door to me. Seemed like they ate nothing but trout and crappy all weekend and that alone is just fishy!
Man what a fun time it was at Marshall again this year, every minute was enjoyable but the laughs around the campfire were the highlight for me. More than a few times I had tears coming from my eyes from the laughter. Always special to hang with these guys
and gals and this year we also had some new campers around the fire who fit right in. I hope everyone who was there this year is back again next year. The the folks at Wilder Creek did an outstanding job again this year, thanks for all you do and especially the way you make it fun for the kids. The raffle was outstanding, Sharon is thrilled to have won the bow by her friend Danzan Bar, she's been lucky at raffles the past few gatherings. The trade blanket was entertaining I got some super nice items there myself. The bow making pavilion was always buzzing with activity and Paul once again helped kids with all kinds of projects from bow making to crafting sheaths for knives. Not sure if it was Cindy, Paul, Heather or a combo of them and others who brought card games for the kids but that was a big hit with the young ones. Lots of new friendships made among the kids as well. I can't wait to get back there for more next year.

and more yet;

and the last of 'em;

"Sleeping Prince" picture is perfect confirmation of a kid's good time.
-
Originally it was scheduled to be after adult jug shoots. But I think darkness overcame the schedule.
Oh...man that was always a bunch of fun... I think it should be early Saturday before lunch....might get a bunch involved then. I think that is the "Signature" of the Marshall Gathering. I can remember reading years ago of Norm Blaker and Ron LeClaire shooting at the bear and always wanting to shoot it......I have always wanted to HIT the bear. We had a blast shooting at the bear with the mini bows last year.....
I will be glad to help organize the shoot next year if you guys need any help.
Be Glad to..............

What a great time. Within a few hours I realized all the stress from daily life was gone. I sure would like to get the wife and kid to come. I think they would like it.
It was nice spending time with friends old and new. I enjoyed meeting DVS, A-Aron, BJ and a few others.
I wish I could have showed up a couple days earlier. Maybe next year. The time sure flew by. I really enjoyed everyone's pictures. Now we have to wait another year before it all happens again.
-
Great pics Mike and lots of 'em. Perhaps we'll meet again in August my friend.

Great pics guys. Looks like a fabulous time. I only wish it wasn't so far.
-
That's all for tonight. Tune in tomorrow for more.
My family and I really did have a great time. It was everything I was told it would would be.
Great people.
A beautiful facility.
And a special event all around.
Spending days with some of your closest friends that live miles away from you. It has the old time feel of, "Can I borrow a cup of suger?" Or a bowl, or a bow, a tent, or some arrows in the jug shoot. (Thanks to all those that helped me when Mike was firing hundreds of arrows and I only had one.)
My kids and I have memories that will last a lifetime. I can't wait to see everyone again next year! We done had a good time!
-
Bill if you heard something good it's true. Other than that I cannot will not attest to anything else..... ::)
Jon . . . fixed it for ya. O:)
-
To anyone who knows me this will come as no great surprise . . . left my tool bag at Marshall!
As one of our intrepid northern CA posters here on PA pointed out, makes good excuse to hit Elm Hall this year.
-
Great pictures everyone. Thanks for sharing.
-
Cool pictures DSV. To think I was sitting right next to Greg several times, had know idea.
Here's some more

-
Real nice pictures Dave, I think that one of Guy holding a camera is a bit suspicious though.
-
Made my wife her first bow from a Elm stave I was gifted by PNewton. She really surprised me and worked every morning learning to shoot it. Thanks Paul, I should have got more out of that stave but my wife loves her bow.

Had a good visit with Ryan while I halvted my stone point on dart.

Pappy's girls aren't the only ones popular with the kids

Patrick help this young man finally finish his first bow. From what I understand it's been years in the process with many others also working on it. He was a very excited new bowyer. Good on you Patrick.
Bjrogg
-
That young man's bow turned out amazing. Patrick is one of the most selfless men I have ever met, always willing to listen and help, no matter what you asked.

I really like the jug, both shooting and watching

The raffle table was way better than my pictures of it. Thanks for the great support everyone
Bjrogg

I finally got up the nerve to shoot the entire long course for the first time. Took my new Badly Bent bow I won from the raffle. Thanks Greg

If you've never seen it you really owe it to yourself to see the pavilion at night
Bjrogg

The sad part Dbar and Clint pulling out. I tried to say goodbye to everyone hope to seeing you all soon.
Bjrogg

Gotta admit I really miss those red fox hides. Gotta get some more to hang on those nails. I had trade back one with Kyle but Patrick my friend I'm sure you'll enjoy it.
Bjrogg
-
Keep the pics coming boys, its the only thing that limps me through until next year.
-
There was a pink quiver left behind at the pavilion. Maybe Rylie's? I brought it home with me and will gladly mail it back to it's rightful owner.
-
I think that might be Pearly's quiver ;D
-
Nooooooo. I have an Ozzy pocket quiver and an old basket quiver from Dino........CLINT!
-
Here are some of my pics from the event, I'll add them throughout the day. Again, a GREAT time at a great event.

Brian . . . great picture of that young fella, his 1st selfbow, and that MO gentleman who helped make it happen.
-
Uhm... WOW! Just wow. Y'all certainly came thru with the pix! Thanx muchily. It is quite evident that you all had a great time, ...despite the one man crime wave that apparently purloined a camera and planted some sort of insidious photographic material thereupon. - OneBow

And a few more pics.

Kyle
Thanks you very much Kyle, I really enjoyed visiting with you.
Im pretty sure I was as proud of how his bow turned out as he was to have finally finished his first bow. Sometimes of you may remember him, he has been working on that stave for the last 4 years at Marshall. He said that was the only 2 days or so he would mess with it because of how challenging of a piece of wood it was. The stave had to have been very old when he got it. Had a high crown lots of pin knots and 2 small limbs growing out the back. If finish tillered to 60@28, 63 TPT slightly bending in the handle at full draw, exactly what he wanted. I want to Thank Pearl, DVS, Chris Gault and A-aron for their expert opinions when I needed a needed a hand with his bow. I personally would have been very happy to have made that bow for myself. :BB
Here are just the few pictures that I managed to get. Once again so busy I forgot to take pictures! Plus my phone was normally plugged in or dead. :-M

Im really enjoying the pictures guys! I missed some of the shooting so it was cool to catch up on that. Keep them coming!
Oh yeah, Onebowwonder, you was truly missed! Everyone kept asking me about you! I bet your ears were burning! And Bruce kept calling me Eric, lol!
Last couple of pictures, I believe this guys name is Wes, I can't remember either. Very knowledgable guy. He has some cool bows he has made. He wouldn't let me shoot the yumi but I did draw it a few times. Man it was cool!

Marley didnt have a blanket in the cabin of the truck on the way home. So when she got cold she pulled the pillow case off and put it over her head while she tried to nap. This is all the pictures I got.

Patrick I know exactly what you mean about having to much fun to take pictures. That happened to me last year and I really tried to remember to get some this year. Of course some of the times I had was having the most fun I didn't get pictures, but I did much better than last year. My arm was ready to fall off by the time Sleek and I were done shooting the jug. A slight malfunction caused the pullies to jam and we had to of fired over 100 arrows at them jugs between the two of us. Wish I had a picture of those jugs.
Onebow really missed you buddy. You gotta try get there next year is 25th and gonna be special. Maybe if the new building is done in the back I might even get to set up with the cool crowd.
Bjrogg
-
BJ we will have to take a cool guys group vote, you may or may not be able to hang out with us. Better mind your Ps & Qs this year. We will have a few gals voting as well, so butter em' good.
-
Pearl Drums, did you see the pictures of the food he had? That gets my vote.
Kyle
Thanks for letting my dad and I camp with the cool guys.
-
Kyle we didn't let you, you just nudged right in like you owned the joint, lucky we were all busy at the pavilion when you came in or we would have stopped you at the entrance to the cool field. Too late for a vote now, so you're in for next year :) BJ is just using us for the soon-to-be power hook ups.
It was a pleasure having you and the ol' man. You guys fit right in like old vets from the moment you jumped out of the truck. I heard your dads wing bone calls most of the weekend, that was great!
-
Nice bow you made for your wife BJ. Glad she likes it. These pictures are great. Makes me really regret missing it this year.
-
Guys and Gals, I have more food pictures ribs and asparagus. I even brought all the steaks from my first Primitive Bow Buck and grilled them up for the pot Luck dinner. Just 358 more days
Bjrogg
Thanks Paul, I wish you could have made it to. I really should have done better on that bow but I really made a couple big boo boo's.
-
Vote Yes for BJ
Anyone like ribs?
Bjrogg
-
Ahhhh yup! Dont know if my vote counts or not though cause I kinda just barged in myself.
-
Might be bit too done for my taste. Will have to hold my vote for awhile. >:D
Oh, forgot. I may not have a vote! ::)
These pics make ya appreciate how much was going on all around me that I had no clue!

Park any dang place you like BJ, ...long as it's close to my camp! I wish my PC screen was 'Scratch-n-Sniff' enabled right now. -OneBow

Well, i just pulled into my deive and got unloaded. Made a second vacation out of the trip home. Panned for gold, went hiking to ash cave in ohio and saw a waterfall in it, my son and wife went wading in the lagoon under it. Almost went canoeing down the ohio river but didnt quite have the time. Taking a shower then off to work!
Hopefully my wife will get the pics she took up on the computer so I can post tonight.

I have to admit Knoll, they do look over done. I was having trouble with them flaming up. They really weren't overdone just a little crispy on the outside. They really were tasty.
Thanks Onebow, we might have to make our own cool group. (=)

DBar
We have a hard time staying on task for scheduling but have come up with a all new one for next year ,still tweeking. it but we want you folks to enjoy yourself to the max and just wait till we unvail it
Y'all will be chomping at the bit to get here !
See ya next year
-
Guy, I don't know how you could make it any better than this year. I don't remember the last time I had so much fun packed into 4 days.
-
Clint I don't want to give it away but believe me it's gonna be even better.

Anyone like ribs?
Bjrogg
BJ, you just come on down to mojam this summer and I'll make you up some ribs! Then we can see if you can make it to the cool side of camp.
I smoked 4 full slabs last year and feed a ton of people with them. We also have smoked squirrel and rabbit at the pavilion quite offten just for something to stack on.
Patrick
-
Patrick I have know doubt you'd beet me hands down in a rib cook off my friend. I'll see what I can do, but I'm afraid I could end up being voted out of the cool gang😢.
Bjrogg

I think that might be Pearly's quiver ;D
That was my first thought also.

BJ, Patrick's ribs were pretty good! They didn't last too long though. I cooked two smokers full of deer backstrap wrapped in bacon that barely even made it off the grill. We eat good that's for sure.
You ought to try to come to Mojam this year if at all possible. It is at Marshall too. Must be something about bowmaking get togethers in towns named Marshall.

Thanks guys I'd really love to get down there. I was just looking at the dates and that is when my cousin is coming back home from California. In all honesty I feel lucky just to make one of these events but sure am great full for you guys that travel up here to play with us. I really feel like I owe ya all. Hopefully some day I can make the circuit.

I'm pretty sure that's Marley's quiver. Thanks for picking it up for her. Believe it or not, it's the first time it's been totally forgotten.
I'll post more pics tonight if photo bucket starts working

Gotta bunch of pics from Mike (stixandstones) to post. Nice full draws shots bud.

Great pictures guys. I don't think I've ever seen so many pictures posted from one shoot before. It sure brings back some fond memories.

All of these pictures are great. They sure keep the memories fresh. And, hopefully they inspire more people to attend a great event.

I agree Osage and we still haven't had the big group picture posted yet. It's hard for me to believe that just a few years ago this event almost went away.
I really wish I had gotten more pictures of trade blanket and adult jug shoot. Also dinner and auction.
It really is hard to remember to take pictures when your having so much fun.

Primitive Archer members are the biggest reason for the resurgence, BJ. I see VERY few new faces that aren't PA members. 6 years ago it was Guy, Matt, Mike and me as far as PA members. This year there were 23-24 members. I see no reason for that number to decrease soon.
-
I'm glad you guys liked the trade blanket. I wasn't sure how it would go over. In my opinion its a lot better than the typical flea market style for a small group of traders like we have at Marshall.
-
I took a lot of really cool things and memories home from Marshall but my favorite by far is that my wife started shooting and has shot every day since I gave her bow to her. I got home last night and it was a bit windy and on the cool side, but she wanted to shoot.😊😊
Better yet it was contagious and my youngest son sent about 3 dozen down range to. Just when I thought it couldn't get any better
Bjrogg
-
Give me some time to get caught up and i will send someone my pics to post does anybody know how to post a video or do I want to do a YouTube page first?
If only I could do this modern stuff as easily as the Primitive.
-
I just now got the chance to get caught up on all these posts. Wow. I had such a great time meeting so many new faces. A special thank you goes out to the wilder creek conservation club for putting on such a wonderful event. The grounds were top notch, as well as all the people. From the moment I pulled in I felt welcomed right in. It was great getting to finally shake hands with so many PA folks, Pearly, Paul, Stix and Cathi, ksnow, Ryan, nakedfeet, BJ. It was also great getting to spend some time with a few I have met before, Clint, Greg and Sharon, Bill, Guy, Matt, Patrick, Mr Hill, Dvs, Sleek and a handful more that I am forgetting. Saturday night was the highlight of the trip for me, getting to share a campfire and lots of laughs. I also got a sweet deal during the trade blanket and ended up taking home a very nice badly bent bow, something I have been wanting for a long time now.
I guess I could sum up the whole trip by saying "I done had a good time"
-
Whats nice also is when you finally meet these guys and they are even better guys than you thought. That was what i came away with last year
-

So true Bubby so true. It really is like Pearl said. It's the PA members plus a few others like Bruce and Cindy that make this so special. Wilder Creek is awesome but you could put us all in the desert or the North Pole and we'd all have a good old time

Sure thing, whatever. You owe me $14 for that string :).
I have been around most of these guys for long enough now that its much deeper than anything archery related. They are some of my best friends on earth and mean a lot to me. There isn't much I wouldn't do for them, regardless of the distance between us.

The fella to the right of Guy is Steve "Yew Archer". He doesn't visit here often anymore, but plans to. The guy right of Davis is a fella from Michigan I was helping out. I think he just slid in for a pic with a bunch of super cool cats.

Thanks. I added his name. That's a good group of guys there.

Mike will have to watch his camera closely if he makes it to Elm Hall. I hear Greg may be coming.
-
Man everyone throwing Greg under the bus is just a conspiracy. Sure not the guy i know, heck last year he risked his life saving me from a trip off one of the elevated shoots. But now that i think about it i think he froze when he saw a giant tree hugger decending rapidly from above, i wondered why he tried to catch me with his arms crossed in front of his face and his eyes closed. I just thought he was a bad baseball player.🤔
-
Man what a group! I feel blessed just to be part of it. Man that Google search a few years ago to find out how to make a bow sure has changed my life. As Pearly said, you guys are some of my best friends and would help you out how ever I could no matter the distance.
Patrick

What a great photo! I was pleasantly surprised when we all gathered, that there were so many of us PA folks. Great group of guys.
Greg, I never knew you were such a jokester.

The man between David and I, his name is Doug. I'm not sure if he is active on PA, but I've met him at every event I've gone to for four years now, haha. We won the night shoot tourney the first year I went to Elm Hall, and we're both therefore champion archers. Watch out guys.

One thing is for sure Tone, your damn good at shooting small streams :)

Doug Schmier
Michigan Longbow member, but not on here that I know of

One thing is for sure Tone, your damn good at shooting small streams :)
Maybe that's why he's barefoot all the time. He's used to wading out to get his arrows ;D

That is pretty funny Clint.😊

Hey, BFT opened the can wide for us. What do you expect BJ? :)

I just hope the water doesn't get to high if you know what I mean.

This one is great. It shows Paul standing over a small militia he has been making weapons for over the years. I'd bet half of these kids are shooting bows made by him.

Great pictures DVS, I especially like the one of Paul and all the young braves.

You got one part right for sure, Pauly has probably armed half those kids. He acts like a down town Chee-cago tough guy, but he isn't. He has a heart bigger than my melon.

Been a busy week since I got home from Marshall last weekend, just now catching up on this thread and sure missing the good times I had there among so many good friends. I'm so glad you are happy to have one of my bows Guy, you've been a great friend to both Sharon and I and you always make us feel so welcome at Marshall each year.
I hope that bow you got at the trade blanket from me holds up Aaron and gets some shooting time. I'm loving the hatchet I got from you and it already has seen some use doing some further rough out work on my Elm Hall elm bow, it is not only beautiful but is sharp and perfectly balanced.
I'm also thrilled that BJ won the birch bark backed osage bow I put in the raffle, makes me happy knowing another one of my bows found a good home with a truly nice friend. Ivote for you to join the back 40 party next year BJ. Bring the ribs though.
Also pawned one off on my good friend and king of the pranksters Osage Outlaw. I got a beautiful osage bow gifted to me from Clint down in Tenn. that has a place of honor on my bow rack among the many others I've received from PA friends. I've been shooting it and it fits me perfectly. Thanks again Clint my friend.
Sharon came home with the outstanding bow our friend D-bar donated to the raffle and couldn't wait to try it out in the backyard the next day. She loves it and is thrilled to now own two lucky raffle bows, a Pearly and a Dancing Bear.
Nate came home with a couple of Bow Mo knapped knives, one from the raffle and one that he purchased from his lemonade stand proceeds that Nina shared with him. He loves hanging around Dan and watching him flint snap. Thanks to Paul also for helping the kids make leather neck knife sheaths and for gifting Nate a sweet one man tent. Nate slept in it for the first time at Marshall, pretty cool adventure for an 8 year old. The memories that boy is getting from these gatherings and the people there are priceless.
So much giving was going on there that I'm sure I missed some of it, so thanks to everyone. :)
Here's a couple pics related to the past weekend;
The trade blanket was a riot, real fun way to do it and I'm sure we'll all be doing that way again next year.I scored the hatchet from Aaron, bunches of feathers and broad heads from Matt, plus feathers from DVS and I think Aaron also.
And the 3rd pic is of Sharon enjoying shooting her bow from Bill in the backyard the day after we returned from MI.
Whoops, didn't have 3rd photo loaded :o

The d-bar bow in action. (-S

I have a great time at every gathering I go to. But there was just something different about Marshall this year. It was something special. It's hard to put it into words.
-
Glad Sharon like's her new bow....and Clint your right there was just something special about this year at Marshall MI.
I also was gifted with a very special gift from two good friends. A bow from Pearly and some arrows from Greg. This is the first Yew ELB I have ever shot this much and it's shoots very nice. Greg's arrows are very special to me ...... they match the ELB perfect and are very elegant see for yourself...................Shot a round with them and didn't loose one arrow in the skunk cabbage.....
Thanks guy's you really surprised me.

Babs, glad you all made it up to Marshall. I'm afraid I can't see your pictures. I might be doing something wrong though.
Sorry Greg I didn't notice you back there on page 42. Thanks for the vote and thanks for bringing all those bows they are beautiful shooters. I'll make sure I keep a close eye on my camera though. You are so right about Nate growing up going to these events. I hope I'm still around to see him bring his kids someday. I think he's gonna shoot a heavy bow. He pulled that HHB I was working on to about 18" maybe more.

Glad you found it Zuma, it really is a good time with good people. All natural materials to shoot no aluminum, carbon fiber or fiberglass allowed. I think that keeps the group a pretty special bunch of guys and gals and youngsters. Be great to see you there someday.

Not nearly as exciting as all the ones everyone else posted though ;). though this was my 3rd time coming, and 3rd anniversary of being in the longbow/archery world, it was my first time camping, I will definitely be coming earlier and staying longer next year :D.

Anybody missing a #49 with no handle? I just realized I had two that came home in my tool bag. Its a bit older and "used" looking.
-
Man that looked like a fun time there.Liked the pics.Old PB screwed a bunch of them up though too yet.

Ed if you came up once you would never miss it, God willing. I know you hear that about a lot of these shoots, but this one is the real deal.

Ed I agree with Pearl. This is such a comfortable meet. It's like a really good family reunion that you can build or shoot bows arrows and Atlatls. A little knapping and just really nice sized crowd. I really like the size, it just feels right. I'm not a big crowd person and Wilder Creek is very nice place. Sure hope you can make it sometime.

Well thanks fellas....I appreciate the confidence in inviting and having my irritating personality around at such an event.Ha Ha Ha!!!Had to have been a little cooler then Mo Jam.

Ed we rarely see 80. Most often its low 70s during the day and 50s at night. Bring your flannel shirt.

It's cool enough that the campfire feels good at night.

Patrick

I have attended shoots here probably before some of you were born. Back in the 70's they used to hold the MBH bear shoot there. We shot at bear targets cut out of cardboard and painted black. This was Loren Willey's club if I remember right. I have some old photos of us camping in the front parking area. Back then there were several rows of pine trees but most are gone now. This has always been a great place to hang out with a bow and arrow.
-
Just read Kyle's article last night in the recent issue of PA mag. I enjoyed it very much and I think he did a bang up job describing the event. Good work Badger!
-
Yep, good read.

I was just looking back reminiscing about last year and wanting to find the group pictures. It seems all the group pictures were Photobucket boomed. I know it's probably a real hassle and almost a year ago' event, but can anyone either repost the pictures or if that's to much trouble I'd sure like one emailed to me. PM me if you can email me one.
Thanks Bjrogg

Check your e-mail, should be there shortly.
