Pappy,
I'm trying to get my vacations planned for next year. I see you held it in May this year. Don't know if it is always in May or not. Just curious if it will be in May next year?
Thanks
Steven
-
First Saturday of May I believe.
-
Thanks, I will plan for it.
-
Ya it is April 30th through May 2nd this year.We will be there the whole week before so
come on down anytime. It has turned into a week gathering over the last few years. :) I will
post some info as it gets a little closer. :)
Pappy
-
Thanks Pappy. As you know, I just got involved with PA this summer. I made it to the NC Knappin and enjoyed the heck out of it. Since the TN Classic seems to be the granddaddy event, I am going to try to make it. I know you will be sending more info out, but what city are you close to so I can see how long it will take me to drive.
-
It is about 30 miles N/W of Nashville,TN. off I 24 W the address to the farm is
1079 Ashley Rd. Chapmansboro,TN. 37035 if you want to map quest it. Can't wait
to meet you in person. :) You will have a great time I am sure of that. ;)
Pappy
-
You just try and keep my Spot down by the Creek pappy....I will be back again....thought that I would give You Fair Warning!! I just hope that Cracker will be my Landlord again......... ;D..If'n ya don't mind another Token Yooper
-
Da Yooper is going to try like hell to get there, after all it wouldn't be the same without a token Yooper now would it eh y'all ;D
-
Only about 4 3/4 months away. ;D. I can't wait.
-
Yeah I can't wait either. Last year it seemed to go by so fast and I really didn't get to meet everyone it seemed like so I think I might come earlier that week if'n it's okay. :) -josh
-
Great Josh, come anytime,Mike I keep your spot,Ya Dana wouldn't be the same without you. :)
You are right Rick ,it will be here before you know it. :)
Pappy
-
It looks like I might not get there the Sat before this year due to work but I'm going to still try. Its great getting there early and haven some time to spend with Pappy and the rest that get there early. Before every thing gets crazy. It does cost me more in adult refreshments but thats ok. Man has to have something to drink. ;D
-
Yeah Pappy I'd like to have the same spot this time. Mike I'll bring the tent again no problem. I plan to cime on Monday same as last year. Ronnie
-
Sweet,that sounds great,at least I won't be lonely. :)
Pappy
-
Save me a spot, too. I'm bringing the camper this year. Maybe I can reserve a spot when Tim and I come up.
-
Looks like I'm going to have to miss again this year. :'( It falls the week before college finals so there is no possibility of getting away. Somebody talk Pappy into pushing it back one week. ;D I might have to come later so I can hang out with Greg again.
-
Yeah Pappy I'd like to have the same spot this time. Mike I'll bring the tent again no problem. I plan to come on Monday same as last year. Ronnie
SWEET...I gots Me the Finest Landlord (Pappy)...and Apartment Manager(Cracker) a Man could Ask for...be seeing You's Guys this Spring then.. ;D
-
You forgot about the coolest neighbor (josh)... ;D -josh
-
You the one that was Drooling on My Shelby's fender every day............. :o
-
no not me, but I will be your neighbor this year... ;D I am coming early and I want a spot by the creek. -josh
-
Cool Josh....we'll see ya there....and shoot the Schnit....... :o
Cracker.....Who was the Youngster that was drooling over My Car....that had the 2 foot Dreadlocks and Peircings all over???
-
I camped on the hill last year. kept sliding to the foot of my tent. I want a place by the creek cause it is flat there. ;D -josh
-
The flat Ground aint the Best of it....It's the Water I love....it puts me to Sleep listening to it....so peaceful compared to listen to the Wind Howl all night here in the Panhandle!!
-
The flat Ground aint the Best of it....It's the Water I love....it puts me to Sleep listening to it....so peaceful compared to listen to the Wind Howl all night here in the Panhandle!!
well if'n its anything like last year you should hear water running anywhere you camp! >:D I hope it's sunny at least one of the days there.. It was cool building a fire and cooking bratwurst in the rain though. -josh
-
I hope it aint as Bad as last Year either...cause I really want to take my Scooter instead of My Car..........
-
Is this an invite only thing, if not, that's around my birthday and my wife might give me the gift of letting me come over to play? I'd like to meet some of the people that have helped me out on here in person and this sounds more personnel than some of the bigger crazier events. I'm sure you guys are still pretty crazy though from some of joking on the other threads. >:D
Eddie I almost forgot how pretty that piece of yew was that you sent me and I am planning on finally getting around to it.
-
Mike I don't know what his name was but he had some nice drainage ditches dug around the Shelby.Ronnie
-
Mike I don't know what his name was but he had some nice drainage ditches dug around the Shelby.Ronnie
Yeah...I forgot about that!! He got up and dug a ditch to keep the Water away from it....What a Kid!! He was pretty cool...just goes to show....Ya can't Judge a Book by it's Cover.....but then Look at me....Who am I to Talk ....eh!!
-
To far away for me to be makin any plans, but I have to be honest I will most likely be a no show this year.
-
cool dana, more wood for me then >:D
...just kidding, why you not coming?
-
Michael, you'll have a ball. And bring the wife with you. Mine said she will go without me, which almost happened last year.
-
Michael C, this shoot is open to the public. You ought to try to make it. Lots of bows built, lots of shooting, good food and plenty of PA folks. It is the "Hap'nin" Event" of the year!!! 8)
-
Cool I will make sure to plan for it. Thanks for the info and I will keep an eye out for updates.
-
Man this thing just keeps growing and growing since I quit comming. ???
-
Michael....I f you end up needing a Ride...you let me know...it's a Bit out of My Way....but I bet We can work it out! I am taking I-40 from Amarillo to Nashville....so Broken Arrow isn't too far out of the Way......
-
Justin, what does that tell you! ::) I remember when you, Bryan and Augie drove up and call my name like you had known me forever. Actually almost everyone did that! ;D Must be my dynamic personality. 8)
-
Well ,looks like it is off and running,Mullet when are you and Tim planing on getting there, early I hope. Justin you are welcome anytime and would love to have you, before ,during or after. :)
Michael C. it is open to all and would love to meet you,I am sure you will fit right in,for some
reason the first time I meet most of these folks ,like Pat said , it was like I had known them all my life.We started the shoot to make a little money for the club and to being able to afford to
keep doing what we do,but it has turned into so much more for me, I have meet some of the greatest folks and made a lot of friends for life, even if I don't get to see them that often.I am
sure you will also. :) Come on Dana you got to make it :'(.Bring Momma with you. :)
Pappy
-
Pappy its going to come down to a money issue >:( My niece wants me to come to her graduation in New York and I know damn well I can't afford 2 trips within a month of each other.
Nor can I spare that much vacation time all in May hafts save some for hunting season eh :)
-
I understand, maybe you will hit the lottery between now and then. ;) :) I keep thinking I will hit it then I remember ??? you got to buy a ticket. ;) ;D ;D
Pappy
-
Pappy, When would be the best time to come up for your season? I think Tim and I will ride together from Atlanta, hunt, then I'll come back up for the Classic unless the dates are close together.
-
The season starts around the end of March and runs through the middle of May,not sure on the date yet. I like the first part of April the best.Still not to hot and the ticks aren't as bad.The birds
seem to work better then also, they haven't been bothered much at that time.I will get the dates
as soon as they come out. :)
Pappy
-
Michael....I f you end up needing a Ride...you let me know...it's a Bit out of My Way....but I bet We can work it out! I am taking I-40 from Amarillo to Nashville....so Broken Arrow isn't too far out of the Way......
I willl do that for sure if I can't talk my wife and kids into going. It's always nice to have someone to ride/talk with on those long trips and believe me if I ride with you it will be a loooong trip ;D j/k Seriously though once it gets closer to time we can figure something out if I'm on my own, it will save us both a bit of cash on gas. If you end up riding your bike though your own your own, I know we are all friends on here but there are some things I just won't do with another guy :)
Pappy you probably have about as much chance of winning then as the people buying the tickets.
-
Michael....if You want to Share a Ride to get there....I have 7 Vehicles to choose from....don't need to take the Hog...... :P
-
April would be good, that's about the time our birds have already been hammered.
-
Michael....if You want to Share a Ride to get there....I have 7 Vehicles to choose from....don't need to take the Hog...... :P
Haha, yeah I was just getting in on the opening you left earlier >:D
-
Well you guys are really gettin me fired up about this. I know I can't swing it this year, not enough vacation time till next year, but man I'd sure like to make it. It's real hard quitin a job after 20 years and having 5 weeks vacation and startin a new job and only having 2 weeks. Even though we have one here in Oklahoma a little while before the Classic, I can't wait till I'm able to make it to Tenn. Looks and sounds like a great time.
-
Justin, what does that tell you! ::)
Nothing I don't already know. ;)
-
Dana
Just send your neice a gift $$, she will be almost as happy, you will come out way ahead, and you get to go to Tn. (problem solved) ;D
Michael C.
If you can make it, you should go. You will have a chance to meet some of the nicest people you will ever meet. I went for my first one last year, and hope to never miss one.
-
I'm goin if I have to ride my bicycle there.
-
Cool, two Florida boys. ;D Me and the wife will be there, you'll have a great time.
-
Just curious. About how many people attended last years classic?
-
Pappy knows for sure, but I'd guess around 400 shooters and more just having fun.
-
365 registered shooters Steven and no count on how many just hanging out and having fun
We have a pot luck supper Sat. night and we think there were about 500 there Hope you can make
it is a blast
Ron
-
Ron, I already have it marked on my vacation calendar. It's kinda funny, but I am looking more forward to the Classic than I am Christmas.
-
Great Steven see you there
Ron
-
Wow, I didn't realize it was that big of an event. From the photos it looks like there are only about 30-40 of you at the most ;D Rick I plan on making it over that way at this point, I would like to say 100%, but my schedule turns out more like the weather than I like sometimes.

I wish some one would have taken a picture of that Saturday night's potluck dinner line at the Classic. The line stretched over 200 yards at least. :) -josh
-
I did,I will see if I can find it. There they are and the last was just from the PA board, and I don't think we got all of us .It is a hoot ,that is for sure. :) :)
Pappy

-
there's me!!!!!!! Glad someone got a picture of the dinner line. The food was delicious and totally worth the wait!! :) :) :) -josh

-
Michael, the 30 or 40 you saw were all PA folks. The other 315 were insignificant participants. ;D
-
Pat shame on you there are no insignificants they are just significants that haven't been recognized yet.Ronnie
-
Excuse me! Not insignificant but "not yet significant" ! ;D
-
Michael, the 30 or 40 you saw were all PA folks. The other 315 were insignificant participants. ;D
I got your "Insignificant...Not Yet Significant"....You Old Fart....You just wait till I show up at this Years Classic ...and put my Bad Foot up side Your Butt!!! :o
-
Now now lets act our age. >:D
-
Ronnie, I guess Mike perceives himself insignificant. ;)
-
Hey Pappy, this is complete off the train of the conversation, but I just thought of a bowyer contest that might be fun at the TN Classic--Blind ring chasing wood identification. The Bowyers are blindfold and has to scrape/chase a ring on a piece of wood to try to ID it just by feel. The bowyer who correctly identifies the most pieces of wood wins.
-
Sounds like a good idea, you supplying the wood. ;) ;D ;D ;D I have been chasing [well trying]
on a yew stave, you would think I had on a blind fold. :) I will say that is rough looking bunch,
all but the girls,It might scare some folks away.Beleve me folks they don't bite, well not hard
anyway. ;) ;D
Pappy
-
No way people watching is one of my favorite things to do, I'm gonna have a hard time concentrating on making bows with that many folks to look at.
-
Don,t forget your knapping tools, some great flint knappers were there last year. I really enjoyed it last year. Southern hospitality everywhere. Thanks Pappy and I,m planning on gettin there again this year. I,m stockin up on trade goods this winter. Later Bob
-
Bob, glad to hear you are going. Any chance of getting Bill Hawker to go that far? He would love it.
-
Rick, I,ll run it by Billy, ya know he would have a ball in Tenn. Later Bob
-
i will be there early. my first year and cant wait till it gets here. we may need to set up a tatto contest that way maybe i can win something, cause i wont do it shooting. but i will have fun planting some poc down there.
-
Ok It's looking official this time. LuLyn and I are coming to the classic. She put in for the vacation time and her sister lives in Borea Kentucky just to the north. So our plan is to fly in the week before, spend some time there, then drive on down to invade some of you southern folk.
I think we will be taking their camp trailer so save us us spot Pappy. We would probably fit in well next to them Floridians. ;D
-
I am coming a few days early. Keenan and Woodstick, looking forward to meeting you in person... Man the Classic is coming up pretty quick I can't wait! :) :) :) It was awesome last year just went by so fast, -josh :)
-
I'll be comming early also...and going down I-40 from Amarillo Texas....OKC....Fort Smith....Memphis....to Nashville...so if anyone is need of a Ride...let me know....maybe we can work something out....... Ronnie...you still going to bring my Condominium this Year??
-
Looking forward to meeting you as well Josh. Now Mike on the other hand,,,,,,,,, ;D ::) Just kidding of-coarse. It's tempting to sign up for the "Bamboo Dragon" class but our main focus is to meet and interact with everyone that we've come to know on this site. Lulyn knows that when it comes to talking bows or hunting a week might not be enough time. :o ::)
-
Lulyn knows that when it comes to talking bows or hunting a week might not be enough time. :o ::)
I can tell you from last years experience...1 week ain't enough time.... ;D....and as for that little Humor about meeting Me....Keenan....well You just ask Sarah....I am Mr. El Sweeto........ >:D
-
Keenan hope I make it down this year would love to meet you and the Mrs in person, ya I watch out for that El D character too ;) :D
-
hopefully i va make it this year. planned on it last year with my dad but my mom wanted him home on his birthday.
-
David where you been hiding? Probably chasing all da girls eh ;) :)
-
Thanks Dana . Hope to see you there. ;)
-
Just saw this, Keenan. I'm glad yall are coming, can't wait to meet yall in person. Are you sure you want to be next to the Floridians? ;D Hopefully I'll be there the first of April, I'll save us a seat.
-
You know the Floridians are just across Da Street from Da Yoopers....dontchano........ >:D
-
That's great news Kennan,I will save yall a spot,I read a pm that said you can't get the trailer, tent camping is fine, could get wet tho. :( ;) ;D Just let me know ,all of yall so I can make plans on spots.
I will be there all week ,so I can mark off your spots,it dose get pretty full as the week wears on.There are motels at exit 11 but then you miss a lot of the fun at night and early morning.
Its best to camp if you can. :) If anyone wants info on the motels let me know,I have the names and numbers. :) This is shaping up to be bigger that ever,I don't know if I can stand that much
fun. ;) :)
Pappy
-
Glad to hear you and Lulyn are going to make it this year Keenan, I'm really looking forward to meeting you both! ;)
-
Pappy,
Just wondering if there was any place close by we could make a rock run for knapping? or if any good areas we could do some searching for points?
-
Maybe Jesse will chime,in,he is the rock hound in our bunch.Lots of rock on my place but not much good for napping. ;) :) :)
Pappy
-
Pappy, we'll probably be in at midnight Thurday as usual. Have the jar unscrewed and the rain pouring for us. ;D

-josh
-
Thanks for the welcome everyone, We are really looking forward to meeting everyone,,,,,,,even dem yoopers ;D Sounds like the weather can be unpredictable at that time of year so I think we are going to look into renting an RV of some sort I'll let you know Pappy so you know whats coming. Thanks for the help.
Greg, looking forward to it. I'm working on a southern drawl so we is ganna fit rite in wit yall
-

LOL my budy snakeman was sleeping in an inch of water in his tent the last night we were there. I put 3 coats of Camp Dry on my tent the week before and didn't have that problem LOL :) -josh
-
Dana your post reminded me of a story ,,,,,,,,, check out the Campng Mishaps thread that I started in "Anything eles"
-
Josh the wate rdidn't come through the tent it came acroos the parking lot and thru the door, I've been there 2 times and both times
I had water in the tent but I always slept well and dry must have been all my early training 8)
-
Pappy, we'll probably be in at midnight Thurday as usual. Have the jar unscrewed and the rain pouring for us. ;D
I seen more Rain in that One Week....than I do in two years here in the Panhandle...........and it felt good to just walk in it like a Kid too.... :o
Keenan...I was there...and it weren't no Trout Stream....just a little Crick as they say down South...... couldn't have caught more than a Brookie or two.....>:D
-
Yea, Keenan, the weather is very predictable.
-
Correction, Mr. Destructo...The only "cricks" we have around here are cricks in the neck. That thar stream of water was a creek or branch. Up RyanO's way, they call them "cricks" ;) ;D
I don't reckon I've ever been to Pappy's place when it didn't rain or snow or precip one way or another.
I guess you could call me the Rain Man. It hadn't rained around Eddies house in months...till I showed up. ???
-
When you comming to Borger Texas?? We haven't had but an inch and a quarter of Moisture here in 11 months....so when can I buy the Airline Ticket....... ;D
-
Mike, If you want a flood, buy two tickets. One for Shannon and one for Hillbilly, tell him to bring a tent for better results. ;D
-
;D ;D ;D Sounds like a ho lot a fun. Wit all da tok bout cricks and creeks I'm thinkin it might be good ta come in da boat. :D Just gald yall aint mentioned gully washers. ::) Coarse with dis crowd a pair a hip waders might be in order. :o >:D
-
Mike yeah I'm bringing the tent gotta have a place for my favorite tenent.
Pappy I'll be there mid afternoon on monday with the same truck and trailer that I had last year.
Shannon thanks for setting them straight on the creek thing.
Funny camping story Mike bobbing around in the tent on an air mattress snoring.
-
Am I going to be able to keep my truck close to my tent? I know some places you have to park in a different area. Reason I am asking is you guys got me wondering about the rain. I am going to be in a tent and if I end up with a crick flowing through my tent, I have a hard shell on the back of my truck and would have no problem putting my air mattress in the back of the truck an sleeping in the bed of the truck.
-
Steven ,I am sure we can keep it pretty close, maybe not right beside ,but close. :)
Pappy
-
Like Eddie said, Keenan, the weather is really predictable. It's gonna rain like a cow pissing on a flat rock. The whole time. ;D We even had a tornado touched down nearby a couple years ago for variety. I have never regretted shelling out the money for a good tent. I've stayed dry every year so far. :)
-
Pappy, I'd really like to come to the classic but as I mentioned before, I'm booked the weekend of May 1st. But it seems there's quite a few folks coming early. I might could be there Saturday April 24th or Sunday April 25th and hang out, lend a hand, socialize, swap yarns until maybe Wednesday. Would that be ok?
-
Hum.... I may have to invest in a different tent. What is the temperature range that time of year?
-
About 50ish at night and 70ish in the daytime.
-

Thanks Steve that's a term I understand,,,,,,,,,, ::)
-
its pretty dry in the hotel too :o :o :o :o ;D ;D
-
Yep but you miss all the fun of runing for your car when your tent gets flooded and finding someone else already mistakenly crawled in your back seat.Ron
-
Except for the year you set up while it was comming a downpour Steve. ;) ;D ;D Come on guy you are going to scare everyone off. :( Sarah, yes it is, and pretty dry under your tent once you get there, just a few small leaks. :) Hedge come on down,I will be there from the Friday the week
before till the Monday after.Temps usually ant that bad,Long sleeves at night and early morning and
short sleeves during the day, except for Eddie,he is in shorts and flip flop's and Chris in a skirt. ;) ;D ;D
Pappy
-
Im too old to stay in a tent ;)
You do however miss alot of the fun if you stay in a hotel and apparently you miss homemade salsa!!!!

The cap on the back of your truck is to keep your wood dry, ya won't melt in the rain ;) :D
As for temps first year I went it got cold enuf to freeze the dew so be prepared for any extreme :) Bring a rain coat ;)
-
Trust Dana he is wise when it comes to lots of wood. >:D
-
Trust Dana he is wise when it comes to lots of wood. >:D
...that is true ::)
-
The temperature range I've seen is pleasant-ranges from frost to fry eggs on a rock. :)
-
You are right about Dana and the wood. ;) ;D ;D You know if it wasn't for all the fun I don't
know why anyone would want to come to this,TN.Weather is strange sometimes. :) One thing is once you get away from your camp we have plenty of roofs to get under and always have a
big fire. :) :)
Pappy
-
Pappy....Did it Rain last Year??? I was so damned busy with everything going on...I don't remember it....... ;D...... ;)
-
Yep what El D said I was so busy the rain didn't matter.Ron
-
Hey Ronnie, I resemble that remark! ;D Next time I'm locking the car doors. ;)
-
Yeah Pat I bet that was a shock.
-
for both of us! :o
-
how did that happen?
-
You think Pat was shocked, just imagine poor old Luke waking up and seeing something like Pat crawling into the car with him. That's scary stuff there. ;D ;D
-
Dang pat theyre hard on you.
-
Ronnie, you gotta be tough to live in this man's world! ;) I'll take a licking and keep on limping! ::)
-
Heck, ElD, I got so busy running my mouth I never shot my bow. And Look out this year, me and the wife are camping, too. I'll be able to stay up late with the big boys.
-
Man they better get more of that Spring Water then......... >:D
-
And stock up on big green bugs..............;D
-
You know I was going to start a thread for the Classsic but yall do a much better job
getting the word out than I ever could. If after reading all of this ,people don't think that it is a hoot I just don't know about them. Thanks guys/gals. :)

All right I'm letting you off with a warning it don't pay to mess with the land lord. >:D
-
You need to rethink the way you grew up, Mike. My wife said he was really kinda of cute, and feminine, the way he offered his Cherry Coke. :) O:)
-
Wow if I'm feminine what kind of monsters did you're wife grow up around.
-
A bunch, till she met me. ;D
-
Its starting to look like I will make it :) But I really could use someone to ride with me.
Anyone near the UP looking for a ride?????
-
Yay! da wood***** is coming!!! >:D ...and i was planning on acquiring some staves while there... dang guess I will just have to get there earlier now... :) -josh

Hey Josh if he gets in your way just poke him with a pointy stick. Best form of Yooper control there is. >:D
-
If da pointy stick is osage I will just take it from ya and add it to my pile eh ;)
I need some to find someone who wants to ride with me but ifin I go I want to leave on the 25th or 26th :)
-
LOL! ;D guess i will need to bring a mimosa stick to poke him with... never heard of anyone using mimosa to make a bow... :) -josh
-
Not sure what mimosa is but I would probably try it :D
-
Dana tried sumac so I'd bet he would try mimosa. ;D
-
here's mimosa.. In Alabama anyways... I think there are other sub-species but this is the one I was talking about.
http://www.invasive.org/eastern/species/3004.html
they are everywhere here. good for nothing...
-
Thats it got em growing all over my place. That stuff is awful soft better drive a rusty nail in it to achieve the proper effect.Ron
-
Still need a passenger, thought for sure ya all would be jumping at a chance to ride with a Yooper ;D
-
I'm turkey hunting over that time Dana, otherwise i would go with ya !
-
I would but you are north of Tenn. and I am south of Tenn. Didn't think you'd wanna drive past the Classic and drive another 4 hours to pick me up.. ;) -josh
-
I'm turkey hunting over that time Dana, otherwise i would go with ya !
John thats a lame excuse, I think its yer turn to ride with me besides you can go turkey hunting at Pappy's ;) ;D
Come on John lets go, and its not true that I make everyone ride on da roof on the way home ;)
-
Maybe next year. I got plans to plant trees on my Dads new property that week also.
-
I'm considering flying in to TN this time. I'll save about 24 hrs of travel time. Is there any chance of getting an airport pickup Weds. late morning and drop off Sun. afternoon. Or would I be better off renting a car? I was thinking Nashville was probably the closest.
-
King Ron's Taxi Service Rick :)
-
Rick....I would love to pick you up...and drop you off Sunday.... it would not be out of My Way at all...driving right through Nashville...but I can not really nail what Day I am coming just yet...so I would hate to commit right now...sorry
-
Just PM me your info when you make plans and we will get you picked up and dropped off
Yes Nashville is best to fly into
Ron
-
I'll be driving back early Sunday through Nashville.
-
Thank you for the offers. I really appreciate it, As soon as I have it all nailed down I'll PM my info.
Thanks again
Rick
-
King Ron's taxi service. ;D ;D ;D ;D That's a good one. Ya flying would save a bunch of time
that could be better spent having fun Rick. That is a haul from where you are from. :)
Pappy

Pappy
Pappy, You got that right I would end up getting an extra day in beautiful Tn rather than in my smelly truck. ;D It's about 1100 miles one way.
-
Yeah....I am driving 980 miles...one way...and it's worth every aggravated Hemorrhoid...... >:D
-
Man... and I thought I had it bad with my measley 235 miles... I don't envy you guys at all... ;D -josh
-
Man... and I thought I had it bad with my measley 235 miles... I don't envy you guys at all... ;D -josh
HA! I gotcha beat Josh! 125 miles and I'm there! I can be there is exactly 2 hours ;D Sorry Mike and Rick :P
-
HA! gotcha beat Shanon i can be there in 40 mins 8)
-
Hum ,I can be there in 5 mins. ;) :) :)
Pappy
-
Hum ,I can be there in 5 mins. ;) :) :)
Pappy
LOL ;D
-
By my calculations we are about 2200 miles away and and it would take about 36 hrs. to drive one way. ::) Seems that we can cut the travel time to around 8 hrs flight after 4 hr drive to PDX plus a two hr drive from LuLyn's sisters place in Kentucky. Now to figure out how to get three sets of bows, quivers, and arrows there in one piece. Then how to get a truck load of staves, rocks and other suplies home :-\ Cant let the wood hoarder have it all ;D
-
You may have to rent a u haul to go back,I thought Justin was going to have to the last time he came. Dana don't have nothing on that boy. ;) ;D I think Koan had to ride on top. :)
Pappy
-
Yea Justin hauled more but he hauled all of that ash from Maries, I'm more selective ;) I also have a smaller truck >:(
-
Justin also hauled a ton of obsidian to the classic. 8) He need the ballast to get his truck back home. ;D
-
That is right Pat:
Justin's truck was ride'en low, in the rear, as he left out.
David
-
Yes it was, between the wood and all them Pappy burgers it was loaded. ;) ;D ;D
I remember now Dana,he was hauling Marie's Ash. :)
Pappy
-
Oh......I ain't bitin on that one............... :-X
-
Oh......I ain't bitin on that one............... :-X
Smart Man ;) :)
Maybe PatB will post a pic of the lovely bow he made from that wood ;D
-
There are 3 things you can absolutely be sure of happening at the classic.
1.) You will get wet.
2.) You will have a blast.
3.) The wood ........ will swindle you out of a stick or three of wood. ;D
You know I'll be there Pappy. ;) ;D
-
Dana, I gave that bow to Marie. I will have to look for a pic. ???
-
There should be a photo of the little pink cammo bow that I made for Minicalendargirl around someplace.
Does anyone know if there were any other bows made from it?
David
-
I still have some of Marie's ash in my woodshed, haven't made anything from it yet.
-
what is Marie's Ash? I must have missed that last year... Was it not really ash or something? ??? :) -josh
-
I am still voting for " Or Something"
Hillbilly: I still have a stave of it stored away as well.
David
-
what is Marie's Ash? I must have missed that last year... Was it not really ash or something? ??? :) -josh
It was from 3 years ago I believe I wasn't there either but heard enough about it, and I believe the consenus was that it wasn't ash.
-
Justin went to Marie's(Calendergirl) house and removed a few trees, loaded them in his truck and brought them back to Pappy's farm. We split into staves them there at the Classic. One trunk was unidentified so we called it Marie's ash. We decided to try to make bows from it. It turned out to be pretty sorry bow wood...unless it has improved with age. ::)
-
Awesome, thanks Pat, Dana, and David! I just had to know the story behind that one! :) -josh
-
Here ya go Josh :) These pictures ring any bells Pat ;)

-
man, that's a stack of wood!!!! Was he coming or going with that load of wood? ;D -josh
-
Marie's ash is the big one ::) The light colored split log. ;)
Justin haul a lot of that back to Utah. :o I believe he loaded it into the truck himself.
-
I knew I shouldn't have brought that up, ::)Pat ;) ;D ;D ;D ;D Josh he hauled it back to Utah. :)
Pappy
-
ouch... heck I probably woulda done the same.. It's still funny :) -josh
-
Pappy, at least Marie doesn't spend as much time monitoring the different threads here on PA. ;)...I hope! :o ;D
-
;D ;D ;D YA I hope not,I am going to be with her next Friday at the WTF banquet. :)
Pappy
-
Give her a hug for me...but don't tell her about this! ;D
-
You better be good to me, Pat. I feel an itchy PM finger coming on. ;D ;D
-
Pappy, at least Marie doesn't spend as much time monitoring the different threads here on PA. ;)...I hope! :o ;D
OHHHHH.. I am soo telling her..... >:D >:D >:D
-
Oh oh! I forgot about you, Sarah! :o Now, what will it cost me? ??? ::)
-

Them two women are likely to kick all of our backside if we are not careful. :D
David
-
Just dangle a little homemade salsa under her nose and she'll cool right down. >:D
-
Ronnie, you are a card!!! ;D
-
I try. I will sometimes throw my self to the wolves for the entertainment of my friends.
-
Looks like hybrid poplar to me? Stuff grows like a house a fire, and gives quick shade, but ain't much good for nuthin else
-
Sarah, Didn't you skip out of work early last week? Hmm,, before 3 ;)PM? Find my business card? ::)
-
Sarah don't say much but it seems she is everywhere watching over us. ;) ;D ;D
Pappy
-
Sarah, Didn't you skip out of work early last week? Hmm,, before 3 ;)PM? Find my business card? ::)
we did leave early, you should have told us you were coming...
Pappy...im always watching.... >:D >:D >:D >:D
-
Sarah, even though you are always watching we all know it's more like this... O:) ... than this... >:D
-
Pat, I think there is something on the end of your nose and this time it's not a bandaid. :o ;D
-
;D I bet I can the color you are referring too, also.
-
Pat, like Frank Zappa said, "nobody look's good in brown lipstick" ;D ;)
Sarah, I wish I had of called, the only day in two weeks I had a chance to get by and I missed ya'll. Maybe next time.
-
Pappy, Like everyone else I'm getting excited about the Tennessee Classic I got a email from John Cook (cookwood) reminding me to save his spot tucked in by my trailer and Ray (fiddle) Johnson, just got off the phone with me talking about what bow he wants to build this year. It sounds like I need to come two weeks before the shoot just to reserve my spot that I've had the last few years. Won't it be wonderful to see all the folks again?
-
Chuck, I talked to John Pruett and he said if I was going and you were going he would be there this year also. Tell Ray I said Hi.
-
Eddie, that's great to hear that John Pruitt might be at the Classic, he would fit in so well with bow building and flint knaping . Ray will probably give ya shout out himself , he is so excited to go to the Classic again. Who ain't excited ?? I have never seen so much talent in one place and their willingness to help others, Yea Mullet that includes you too. ha ha.
-
Great to hear from you, wondered where you had been,I will save you spot.I will let you save the rest.We have graveled that whole area since last year so it should be better.Tell you Maw
I said ha.See ya in May. :)
Pappy
-
Thanks Pappy, I love gravel, big gravel, small gravel all kinds of gravel.. Ray, John and Maw and Me share the same spot I park parallel to the Creek and Ray parks parallel to me and John sneaks in by us. that leaves just enough room for Maw to have a small fire pit to cook her road kill.
-
Pappy our plans on using an rv may not work out and we are considering sending our Tipi down there to stay in instead. Is it possible to get some tipi poles close by there? They don't have to be fancy or peeled just functional. Would need 14 2 -3"inch butts and 16-18 feet long. If it to much of a pain don't worry about it will just buy a tent or something. Lulyn just thought it's be nicer if we had our Tipi.
-
that is so awesome that you have a tipi Keenan, I've been wanting to make myself one for years, just haven't gotten up the nerve to try one yet... Hope you get to bring it to the classic I would like to see it. :) -josh
-
Let me look around Keenan and see what I have.I have some thickets with sassafras ,just need to see if they are long enough. :)
Pappy
-
Sassafrass....2-3" at the Butt...and 14 of them...I can see some selfbows in the Future after the Classic....... :P
-
Pappy, poplar saplings might be an option or even some 2' to 4" diameter bamboo.
-
Thanks guys, I know it's asking allot,,,If it works out you can all come in the tipi for a pow wow. ;D
-
I will look for poplar also,I don't have any boo that size. :)
Pappy
-
How about some of those Sweetgums?
On top of the hill, on the right as you are going in, down in that little growed up low spot.
David
-
I hear you David,I looked over there yesterday when I went in,I think we can find plenty, just getting the time to cut them. :)I will get around to it sometime before the Classic. :)
Pappy
-
Thanks Pappy,I know you got allot on your plate already. We will make it right with ya for the help. ;D
It's Official,,,,,,,Flights are booked and paid for. ;D ;D ;D ;D
-
Cool! ;D
-
That's great.Not a problem Keenan glad to help. :)
Pappy
-
If my wife works next weekend I'll try to come down and help you cut a few of those poles. Last weekend sure done me a lot of good ;D
-
Thank you guys, Keenan& Lulyn
-
That would be great Shanon, get you and Jesse and then I can supervise. ;) :) :)
Ya that was fun last week, the weather could have been better,it is supposed to be nice this weekend at least till Sat. evening late.We have a club meeting and working Sat. or I would cut them then.It shouldn't take to long.Keenan do they need to be 2 or 3 inches across the stump
or at the small end ? :)
Pappy
-
Thanks Pappy and Shannon and whoever else may end up helping on this. 2-3 inches on the butt end is normal and one that is slightly larger for the lift pole (3-4) The size on the top end isn't that important. Thanks again.
-
Hope these will work, some may be a little bigger than that.Tell me what you think,King Ron,Chris,Case and myself cut them Sat. evening Got 15 Poplar poles, just hope they ant to big.
Also need to know how much room will you need to set it up. :)
Pappy

;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D Yea Pappy, Those are perfect. Thank you King Ron,Chris, Case and Pappy. You guys are heros. My tipi is a 14 footer so the area should be about 16 wide and about 20ft deep, for the smoke flap poles to go out behind. Hear is a pic. Thanks again guys.
-
We will save you a spot. KingRon has the tape. ;) :)
Pappy
-
Keenan great looking setup I'm not a tepee guy so I'm curious what keeps you from getting drown when it rains.Ron
-
Ronnie, rain? at the Classic? Naw-couldn't happen.....;D ;D
-
Ronnie, you use the poles to build a raft ;) :D
-
Ron you can close the smoke flaps or use a raincap on the tops of the poles. ;D And if it's snowing you just watch the snow flakes drift down through the smoke hole and evaperate from the fire ;)
-
10-4 I could hardley help but wonder. By the way I like the raft idea and since it never rains at the classic the point is moot.Ron
-
Yeah....like I wasn't sleeping on a Waterbed a few Mornings...eh!!!
-
I told Pappy's best half that since I was coming down for my first trip, and it was the 13th year, that It was NOT GOING TO RAIN! O:)
-
It'll rain........I promise. If I make it down.........it'll rain :-\
-
Not that I don't believe you, Tim but I only bet on sure things. ;D My money is on rain!
-
I'm going with Tim. No rain allowed. :) :)
Pappy
-
Alright Pappy said I believe it and that settles it.Ron
-
Our flights are booked!!!!!!! Its going to be a great time....rain or shine....but i am bringing the rain boots!
-
Hey Pappy, Tim Beach emailed me last night. Hows the weekend of April 3ird sound for bird hunting? Tim's got a hunt for Merriams in SD after that.
-
i cant believe that Keenan is going and not taking me :'( :'(.. SINCE,you are not taking me ;D can you get me 2 things...a signed photo of the great pappy and a hickory stave.LOL...i hope you have a great time..john

-

-
John, you and Dave C. should hook up and fly down there. Be kinda neat to have more of the northern tribe there then just us.
David, Yes we are having it again and sounds like it going to be even bigger and better this year. I'll save you a spot, And if you bring Gail we'll be sure to give her a great initiation, I mean, welcome into the family. >:D
-
Sounding good,Eddie that is fine with me,are you going to be back by then, you know he needs
a guide. ;) :) Let me know for sure and what time he is coming in,just for the weekend or a week,

For everyone who dont know. I think that there is me carrying in the morning coffee! Got to get back to GB again. That was way too much fun!
-
David, Sawfiler(Shannon) will back me up. When I get home, I'll drop the dirty clothes, grab my shotgun and Camo's she has packed for me, And I'm out the door with a kiss, Turkey hunting. ;D
-
Tiller,Miss Joanie is the same way ,it's all in the raising, got to get your bluff in early. ;) ;D ;D ;D
All women think they can change you once they get you,you have to show them they can't. ;) ;D ;D ;D Man we are going to get you in trouble. ;)
Pappy
-
No Pappy....He is already in Trouble....We are trying to pull Him back out of the Mire...before He goes Under...and there is no way back.....like Pappy and Eddie are trying to Say....gotta get the Bluff in Early...or They Gotcha...... :P
-
David, Don't let these guys get you in trouble. The wright approach can work miracles. Remember relationships are about the journey and constant courtship. So hear is a proven plan for your birthing the primitive desires. This takes a slow simmer approach.
First most women respect and admire the pioneer women and often will be open to the whole remote cabin get away in the wilderness while curled up next to their man in front of the fire. This fantasy vision number 1. Let that one simmer for a while and and locate a local Forest Service rustic cabin rental for the weekend get away. (After married of coarse) No phones, TV, computers and rustic as possible. If this goes well, you are moving in the right direction towards the primitive life style ;D Look up some of the very nice Native buckskin dresses on Ebay and let her know how good she'd look in a dress like that. Once that vision takes root in her mind it's only a short step to chasing each other around in the tipi. ;D >:D
Once she is in the bucksin dress she will know how comfortable they are and the only place she will feel confortable wearing it is at rendezvous. ;D

david,
talk to Marie and I if you ever need help......not these guys ;)
-
Run Tiller run to the light the light is your friend.
-
Oh Jeesh! Here we go again. Trust me when I say "Shes a lot like me!" Well, sex is different of course, goes without saying. But knowing all of you I know what you were thinking! ::) She sews here own clothes, Weaves, makes quilts from scratch and has her own horse she trained herself. This here is a pioneering lady if you ask me. I predict it wont be too difficult to get her out camping. She might even like hunting too!!!! Never can tell! ;D
-
David, david, david, Poor boy, we're trying to help and you're not paying attention. Now, what Keenan said might work if you want to start this relation out spending money. You know what I'm talking about, renting cabins and all. That's not necessary and a lot of added expense. You know ; wine, strawberries in chocolate and all that crap.
What we, and I'm talking about advice from older gentleman that have been happily married for a looong time is, it is cool and a positive thing that Gayle has that pioneer spirit. And that sex thing you were kinda alluding too well it probally is different, ya'll are from the West Coast. But what you need to work on is when ya'll are in that wagon, pioneering away, you have to establish who is driving that old Conestoga.
If you want , I'll talk to Gayle for ya. ;)
-
David you're a very lucky guy to have a very wise old er I mean ripped guy like Mullet to offer intervention for you.
-
EDDIE! NO NO NO!!!! ;D :o
By the way! We all know you may be driving the wagon but Kathy is sittin there with the whip to keep you in line! ;D
Just wait till I get her into archery. She's going to give Eddie a run for his money on the range! Probably shoot better than I do. That not hard since I never get any practice in. :'(
-
I'd would've chimed in sooner but I just found the post, and it took me awhile to read the first 19 pages, the wife and I are coming in wed night, we're staying at Jon Prices place this year ,I'll miss the river that ran through under our tents last year as well as the tree that went down in the woods not far from where we camped. I have to figure out how to fit some wood in the Grand Prix, I figure if I cut a hole in the back seat into the trunk it'll work, either that or I better learn to splice billets. I can't wait to see everyone.
I see Dana hasn't got any takers for riding with him, don't be afraid people, he was a pleasure to travel with, the ride home was a little chilly up on the roof of his truck due to all the wood he brought home but hey, a wh*** is a wh***. Just kiddin man it was a good time.
VB
-
Thanks VB, at leats the rain finally quit and I did give ya some sun block so you wouldn't burn :D :D
Talked with Jesse and its possible we will car pooling down thursday :)
-
VB...my 2000 Grand Prix has a door that Opens into the Trunk behind the center Armrest in the Back Seat....you might check it out ...maybe Yours does too... ;)....thats how I have gotten all kinds of wood Home from Home Depot and Lowes.... ;D....and I do miss the Creek running behind the Tent...and the sound of Rain on the Roof....don't get to hear that here too often!
-
Mike, I already cut the hole in the seat, and then I found the door into the trunk, man, a day late and a dollar short. just kidding. I wish mine(2004) had the fold down seat or a reach through, my last car did.
-
Pappy, It looks like me and you are in real trouble now. David went and told on us. He told Gayle we were giving him a hard time and it wasn't nice. Now I'm getting threats on Facebook from Gayle threatening to disrupt the wonderfull, long marriage I've had with some of that West Coast Philosophy. I tried to explain to Gayle he was getting some pretty darn good advice from guy's with many years of experience and there was no need for him to go tattling.
-
>:D >:D >:D >:D >:D >:D >:D >:D >:D >:D >:D >:D >:D >:D >:D
DOG HOUSE EDDIE!!!!!

-
Well next time Tiller comes to TN well have to do some really juvenile things to him to get even. >:D
-
Nothing new there! LOL!!! ;D ;D ;D ;D
-
Can you imagine, Ronnie, a grown man, proud of tattlin'? ;D
-
I believe it Eddie...any grown Man that would rather smell like Tea tree Oil and Lemongrass Soap...than Doe In Estrus and Scent Blocker...I beleive it........ >:D
-
Depend on which species of Doe your trying to attract! ;D
-
Next thing you know he'll be lifting his pinky at tea time.
-
UGH! I just realized I won't be getting any lemongrass soap this year! That stuff ROCKS! I don't care what any of you Big Ole Babies (El Destructo) say! ;D
-
You do know you can order the stuff for like only 19.99 a bar.
-
You do know you can order the stuff for like only 19.99 a bar.
yeah but I was hoping to sweet talk him out of some. ;)
-
It's $6.00 a bar! Jeesh, yah would think with this crowd I was the king of thieves or something! ;D
No soap this year. But if ya sweet talk me Marie I might just throw in a free bar with your order. ;)
-

I still have two Bars of it Marie...and you are welcome to them...... :P....but if you let Him yalk You into a Purchase...I will still bring them to You at the Classic
-
I had some but put them in the outhouses to deodorize the place, took me a month to find them after Tiller left, couldn't figure out what that smell was in the cabin. ;) :) Got and email from Monroe
and said the whole PA team was coming again this year,Thats great,I really appreciate the support.
Pappy
-
Hey Eddie maybe you oughta tell the new girlfriend about all this sweet talking. After all one tattle deserves another.

You guys don't now nuthin my wifes dad ran a junk yard and made illegal alcohol. for a living.
-
I don't often run from a good looking women, I'm not from the West coast. I'd be so afraid, I'd just fall down and see what happens. ::)
-
:D :D :D Heck just reading all this has been a kick,,,,and somewhat concerning. Thoughts about Lulyn getting to know all of you better might be not be good. ::) Especially if she gets talking to Marie and Sarah. My fear is that a little of that spring water and Lulyn might start telling stories. Don't need anymore nick names floating around and after watching Tiller getting branded,,,,,,well guess that was to be expected conssidering the source, he smelled so sweet out at the Glass Buttes people were trying to rub him down with cow pies. >:D
Actually we are getting really excited. It really is going to be neat to meet all the friends that I've come to know through this site. For us, this is the salt of the earth, and the friends we've made through this sport over the years, has caused of to be drawn to it all the more.
Dana, Glad your going to make it Bud!
There Ridgerunner! now it really is a soap opera, ;D
See what happens when your up late and on pain med. ::)

Hello,
I was thinking about coming to the TN Classic mainly to learn from the horse's mouth how to build a self-bow. I was just wondering if we need to bring our own tools, and if so, what do we need? Thanks!
-
Dmassphoto:
If you have tools being them.
If you don't have tools come anyway.
You can borrow tools, and know how, from anyone who is there.
Great bunch of folks.
David
-
What David said,we have a lot of tools and benches but it's first come,so By Friday and Sat. the stuff get pretty thin, It takes me a couple of weeks after the shoot just to get all the stuff gathered back up.GregB ,Big A and myself are there to help most of the time but it's so busy there is no way we could do it without all the guys from PA,they are more than willing to help and sometimes I feel bad cause they are helping and don't get time to work on there own stuff,We really appreciate it Greg and Big A about went crazy the first few years trying to do it all there self and it seems after Thursday
I am pulled in all directions. Come on down I am sure you will enjoy it.Some of the best selfbowyers in the country will be there and more than willing to help and advise. :) :)
Pappy

Thanks for the warm invite :) I'll be coming from Knoxville, so it's not that far of a drive. If I were to bring a couple basic tools with me, what would you say the most important are? A drawknife? Thanks!

Drawknife, PENCIL, flexible measuring tape, rasp, chainsaw file, couple of scrapers... That should get you started..
-
Josh got it about right, depending on what you plan on building and where you are at.If you plan on debarking and chasing growth rings a draw knife would be nice,if you plan on getting something there a lot are already passed that point. Just bring what you have and I am sure if you need something special we will come up with it,another good idea is to put you name on it,not worried about someone stealing it but sometimes things get lost in the scuffle. :) :) Knoxville is a about 4 hours I think. :) Depending on how law abiding you are. ;) ;D ;D

I try to be a law-abiding East Tennessean, but then sometimes my ancestry gets ahold of me driving around the hills :) I can usually make it to Nashville in 2hrs, 45min, and Clarksville is (I believe) only a 30min drive to the exits, so that should be no problems. One more question (you can tell I'm a newbie), will there be staves for sale there, or do I need to bring my own?
-
There will be staves, Pappy will have some hickory staves already roughed out, Gary Davis, and yazoo will have a boat load of osage between them :)
-
Law Abiding .... ;D.... I make the 986 miles in 12 hours flat.....you do the math....... >:D

I hate to ask so many obvious questions, but what size/type of drawkinfe do you suggest? I went to my local carving shop today and saw one for $110 which surprised me a little! Also, what about rasp size/type? Thanks!

DMASS We are looking at your post from down here at twin oaks Pappy said to not buy anything until you come here

-
Oh and dmassphoto, don't spend 110 dollars on a drawknife, make sure you check out the flea markets and farmers trading posts first... I got an older used one and only paid 25 dollars for it and it looks way better made than the new ones I see for sale now. Just had to knock a little rust off it and fix the bevel and she was good as new.... The handles were already worn smooth from the heavy use it got from its previous owner too. Make sure to look for a used one before you shell out that kind of money, they dont make them like they used to. :)

-
Hi again all, just wondering what day I should get there to participate in the self-bow class? Thanks! (still trying to see if I can come or not)
-
dmass We start gathering on the 24th of April The dates for the Classic are April 30th, May 1st and 2nd With out looking at the flyer
I believe the Selbow class starts on Thursday April 29th You have to start with roughed out stave with no tip nocks cut in And you can also get help from
several people that will be there to help you So you can get there what ever day you want just have to be at that stage on Thursday
Hope to see you there
Ron
-
For anyone that hasn't been involved in the Self Bow Challenge, Twin Oaks will have roughed in hickory bows that have been straightened on forms with some reflex added. There will also be roughed in osage bows available through Gary Davis and Yazoo with assistance given by them in getting the osage bows to a shooting stage. Several Twin Oaks members (including Pappy ;)), and probably some other PA folks will be helping as needed during the tillering process of the hickory bows. We have a good many bench/vises available on a first come first serve basis. We also provide scrappers and will have tillering strings for sale. In the past it can get pretty hectic with a dozen or so making bows at anyone time and just a few folks helping, so be patient please :)
Like King Ron said, the actual contest starts on Thursday with the bows being at a semi-floor tillered stage without string notches cut in. But for my 2 cents worth, I personally feel the emphasis of this self bow making event is not a contest so much as a introduction to making an all wooden bow and getting new people interested and excited in this great hobby! It's an opportunity to have "hands on" experience with some guidance given by experienced bowyers...not to mention some good comradarie! It's all in fun, no need to feel stressed but just enjoy yourself. Most folks in past years if they started Thursday or Friday have got their bows to a shooting stage allowing them to shoot the course for score against their fellow students of the Self Bow Challenge. All particiapants will be asked to enter the Self Bow Challenge which includes help tillering the bow and getting to shoot the course. Typically most of the bows aren't completely finished during the weekend. Usually additional sanding/ finish work, grip, and sometimes sealing the bow is still left to be completed after going home. The entire process to a fine finished bow like displayed in the PA forum bow section is typically to lengthy to be entirely completed by an inexperienced person in such a short time.
I hope this may help answer some questions to any folks new to the Classic that are interested in taking part in the Self Bow Challenge.
-
Hey Pappy,
I see from past TNC post that you have had a Johnstone contest. I have a throne, tank and bottom that I can throw in the back of the truck and bring with me if you need one this year. No problem to bring it, just let me know.
-
Only need the tank, and hopefully its a good quality American Standard and not a cheap import :)
-
Yep, just the tank.
-
I don't know what brand it is, I will look tonight when I get home. I'll bring it regardless.
-
you know the old green toilets from the 70's? are they that color through and through or are they just painted? I bet they would make some pretty interesting looking Johnstone points if they were solid that color...
-
Believe it or not some of the modern porcelin thrones really don't knap :o
-
I looked at the tank. Can't find any manufature on it. I kinow it was purchased in the early 90's. Well, I'll bring it and we'll see what happens. If someone else has an American Standard they want to get rid of, maybe they can bring it.
-
I was mostly kidding ya but some of the new are really crappy, pun intended ;) :D
-
That's ok. Don't know if this thing is going to be prime Johnstone or crappy thronestone, but we gonna find out. See you at the pit.
-
I'll be trading some Preground Johnny stone, Preforms, for FOG'ing. ;D
-
I stayed home from turkey hunting today and did a little harvest. Collard's are coming this year and already cooked. ;D

Of course GregB as long as you're totin' a bottle of that homemade wine each time you visit! ;D
-
I had a bottle of that wine it was goood.
-
I may have to get a bottle from one of my friends that still make it, and just keep carrying it back for a pencil each time until the bottle is empty. :)
I haven't made wine for several years now. I may have to get back into it. Pappy wants me to so I can give it to him and he can then give it away and get credit for it...at least that's what he told me this past weekend! ;)
-
I never drank any Wine there...but Me and Ron shared a Mason Jar of some different Flavored Liquid Sunshine when I was there last year...along with the Natural Spring Water too...can't remember what the Flavor was....but it was sure different..... ;D
-
GregB you haven't been making your wine? I think you need to change that right now!!!
-
AAAAHHHH!!!! This just aint fair this year. I wana go too!!! (Yes, I know I'm wining! LOL!!!) ;D
Have fun guys and post lots of pictures! I will be living off of them while the classic is going on.
Tiller
-
Don't worry Marie,I have another hook up,the one that taught GregB. ;) :)Already have 3 bottles set aside. :)
Pappy
-
Marie could we disable the photo part for Tiller? Thatl teach hiim not to show up. >:D
-
Marie, if I started right now...might would be ready for Classic 2011. No wine served before its time don't cha know. ;) If Pappy has wine from the guy who taught me, I guarantee it will be very good! He KNOWS wine making! :)
-
Don't worry Marie,I have another hook up,the one that taught GregB. ;) :)Already have 3 bottles set aside. :)
Pappy
What about the rest of us???????? I NEED WINE
-
If we bring some good cheese can we join in? ;D

Yazoo.....bring some.....I love to Sample the different wares......don't I Pappy........... >:D
-
If we bring some good cheese can we join in? ;D
Sure Keenan you can bring the cheese... but don't just sit there next to us cuttin' it! that would NOT go so well with the wine! :P :o >:D
-
Ohh......that was bad Marie.....really bad...... :P
-
Some folks are just gross. :P
-
Never was much on wine, but a fella I used to work with gave me a bottle that he made years ago. It's been in my fridge since...........02 maybe? Not real sure, but it's been a while. I'll bring it and give it to ya Marie?
(course there is this wavier thing) 8)
-
Tim, has it been standing up or laying on it's side since '02 ?
-
Been standing upright. Probly a bad thing?
-
Keenan, Tillamook? ;D 8)
-
Standing up allows the cork to dry out and then air reach the wine which causes oxidation. Best to store wine with the wine in contact with the cork. I made a wine rack that holds around 75 bottles laying on their sides, unfortunately it is empty. :(
-
So Greg, you say it is probly bad? Most wine taste bad to me anyhow so I guess I wouldn't know the difference. :-\

i'm sure it's because you GAVE all of it away... :o
-
Tim, once the air gets to it it will turn to Wine Vinegar. Heck, Marie will probally drink it. ::)
-
Uh oh I think Eddie just called Marie a booze hound. >:D

:o :o :o :o :o :o Wait till Marie hears about this,,,,, :o :o
-
Look back at the post, Ronnie, you did ;D ;)
-
Oh so lets shift the blame.Good strategy.
-
Well I got the bottle out tonight and looked at it. The cork looks wet to me, at least down in the neck. It's only about a 1/4" from the wine,so maybe the shutting of the fridge door would shake enough up on the cork to keep it wet?
No matter, it's Maries anyhow, she can drink it or pour it out whichever she likes. 8)
-
Heck we can cook with it if she don't want to drink it. Its probably OK,save it for the second bottle and she will never know the difference. ;) ;D ;D We can always mix it with a good bottle to add
volume. ;) >:D

That's right Marie, all the wine I've brought to the Classic over the past several years was wine I made before 2007. Back when I was really into making it, I had made over one hundred gallons in one year before. One gallon equals five regular wine bottles! ;) I may have to get back into it at some point in the future. To many iron's in the fire for me right now.
Timo, probably is okay. It may not be as good as it once was. The wine level being within a 1/4" of the cork helps cut down on the possible amount of exposure to oxygen.
You guys definitely are out of line in regards to Marie's potential of being a "booze hound". Just because she habitially carries a cork remover everywhere she goes (she gave me one during the 2008 Classic when I couldn't find one in the cabin!) doesn't necessarily mean she's a "booze hound" or wino. She is just a nice person, and carry's a cork remover solely for the purpose of sharing it whenever the need arises! I mean if you think about it, I'm sure we've all at some time or the other have been asked during an archery event if we had a cork remover...right? ;D

well Mike, I can't think of a better excuse to leave a job than to go to the Classic... Heck I probably would do the same if my company was jerking me around as much as yours has this year... :)
-
You would figure that after 20 years of continuous employment with them....that they would have a slight bit of respect for me .....but they don't....so I have lost all givashit for them also...... ::)

-

You mean I missed that last year? Come on Sarah, you just have to come and give an encore of that performance for those of us that missed out the first time! Just think how all our lives could be enriched with the memories of such an event as your burping out the ABC's! Maybe instead of the ABC's, you could practice up on a burped out song instead....I'm partial to Hotel California by the Eagles! ;D
-
Greg thats a good idea but I was hoping for Withcy Woman. >:D
-
OK, I am officially bummed also! I heard the stories and now am not going to get to meet the legend. I am so bummed I almost canceled my vacation :'(... OK not really. But I am going to miss meeting the "one and only".
Don't want to change the subject but...
Hey Pappy, there is a good chance I will be pulling in after dark thirty Wed night. I am going to guess there will be some night owls there that can point a tired person to a good spot to set up camp?
-
Night owls I dont know about that everyone is in bed by sun down. LOL just kidding.
Sara tell Ed to take care of the mag. you have a comand preformance to make at the classic.
-
Hey all P.A. is going to have our table with all our goodies for sale! Yes we will be minus the Queen B Sarah, but the rest of the crew is coming! We have a bigger variety of p.a. clothing too along with a bow raffle (thanks to Knightd!! ;D). Last year we did something similar with one of Robustus's bows.
We can't wait to see you all! ;D Stop by and show your P.A. support! ;D

are going to be missing a special few this year but I know of a lot of new folks coming that I can't wait to meet, that's the way it goes, life happens but we will be thinking about them anyway. :)
Pappy

Sarah I can't believe you are not coming this year, not the same without you. Yeah more spring water for me. >:D Just kidding wish you where going to be there. Marie I hope that you will have some T-shirts for the ladies again this year I really like the one I got last year, and a pink hat please would be nice.
Tina
-
Just wondering, will there be anyone there selling field points? I gotta get a few more and thought I might wait until then. :)
-
There will vendors there but not sure if any have field points, don't remember ???
-
Yes there was one with oodles of everything there last year.
-
The last couple years, if the vendors there didn't have it, you probably don't need it.
-
Pappy I can't tell you how much I wish I was gonna be there. I wanted to thank you again for the time you spent with Greg and I a week ago last Monday. We spent hours over the next days trying to figure out what we enjoyed most. Greg is still leaning towards the flint knapping. Heck, I had come to see about the bows and left with an overwhelming urge to brain tan the two elk hides in the freezer. I also keep thinking about the biggest bag of turkey feathers I ever laid eyes on. And a pile of firewood that still blows this desert dwellers mind. If I had been thinking I would have asked for a few pieces to smoke some ribs over while I was dreaming of Tennessee.
So have fun and for all you first timers, if you have never seen Pappy's place prepare yourself for something you cannot prepare for. I know the angels are busy guarding the gates into Eden but they left a back door open in Northern Tennessee.
Thanks again Pappy and if there is anyway possible I hope to see you next year.
Mike
-
Great meeting you also, glad you enjoyed it.Hope to see you again. Well guy it's time,I will be out of here today and headed to the Club,Hope to see yall in a few days,I will be ready and waiting ,fire going scrapers sharp and grill hot. :)

Tina
Tina, can't wait to see you and share a sip from that jar with you.! We will be selling womens' and kids' apparel this year. Kind of a test market. I always want to know what the women think, too. I LOVE feedback! I will be getting 3 big boxes of items in a few days and I will let you all know what to expect. I sure get excited to see the P.A. support, and if I understand right purchases will give people "chance" to win a bow by KnightD this year. ;D ;D C
i am hoping the HUGE storms that come this weekend are getting them all out of the way for the Classic! ;D Of course what's the classic with out some rain. ::)

If anyone from the magazine wants to get ahold of me through PM, I'd love to give my info and start getting the magazine. Thanks all!
Greg, I was right there... that isn't what was happening. You were showing Tom some moves from your latest hip/hop Michael Jackson thriller mix dance. ;D i have to say it was pretty good. >:D Did ElD ever get the steps down? I would have liked to have seen that! I think he was all consumed with rubbing his bow expecting"I dream of Jeanie" to pop out.
-
Marie I am LOL!! I like that, only you to think of that.

No he didn't quite get the entire routine figured out...each time he got to the moon walk part, he kept backing into one of the bows in a vice! ;D
I don't know if he was wishing for Jeanie to pop out, or for Wonder Woman to wrap one of her bow strings around him and see if she could get the truth out of him! ;)

I sure am glad that everyone got out OK. As far as the Twin Oaks guys go it don't get no better than them. Had a great time even though I left early that was an executive decesion that I'm glad I made. Prayers to King Ron.
Thanks Ronnie
Ron Ok Guys? Hope he and his family are OK.
Ron and his family are some of the nicest folks who went out of there way to make me feel right at home and took me under their wing while I visited.
