Internet in yer car, now thats real primitive Justin ::)No internet in the car. The mind dont stop when the computer turns off. I dont need internet in the car, I can almost always hijack a wireless signal. If need be you can stop in front of a motel. ;D Justin
DanaM
...If Micosukee one fletch arrows fly into the camp, y'all wont be surprised, right ? :o :D :D...bobHey Bob, you going to try to make it? That would be cool if you can. Justin
Me and Greg got my stands down and he done a little squirrel hunting. Here are some pictures. ;D
then back to the club to relax by the fire.Translation: it was dinner time, and I went back to eat. ;) Justin
Marius, I went squirrel hunting at a spot on Pappy's place where last September I was surrounded by so many squirrels I had to fight my way out...nasty situation for a while there! ;D
Marius, I don't know if "two deer" bow will work with your technique...its been trained not to miss! ;) ;D
Oh heck, Greg. Marius broke that record shortly after you gave him the bow. ;D All of the arrows he shot hit true...just not where he was looking! ::) Pat
i developed a diabolic way of killing my prey. i miss them so closely, that they catch pneumonia from the draft my arrow causes.
Cowboy, glad you and your chickens had a good time! ;D Maybe you can make the Tn. Classic next year, and be sure and bring those chickens along...I'd like to meet um. ;) Let them eat some of our Tn. grasshoppers, course we'll have to put up the hounds. ;DI can just see it now, tripod chasing chickens around all weekend. ;D Justin

You cry babies. I only saw 2 ticks the whole time I was there. And they were both on somebody else. Justin
Greg missed a meal
I gotta try and beat Greg "The People's Champ" so his head doesn't get too big.....Chad, you need to set your sights higher then beating me, that's not too difficult to do...now Pappy, that's a different matter all together! ;)
QuoteGreg missed a meal
Greg,
I have a batch of sour dough biscut dough and the wild rice & cranberry stuffing for them extra thick pork chops Pappy is hauling to Cloverdale + a bottle of your yellow plum wine and some sweet potato's to bake in the coals,
Are you sure you want to hang out at home cutting firewood all weekend, Heck if it is saw dust you need I would let you scrape my Osage stave to a growth ring for me while you were sitting around the camp fire!!
Did I mention that I had some fresh peaches for the cobbler!
Anyway we will see ya on Monday
CastIron.
I think it was Tripod.
I have a batch of sour dough biscut dough and the wild rice & cranberry stuffing for them extra thick pork chops Pappy is hauling to Cloverdale + a bottle of your yellow plum wine and some sweet potato's to bake in the coals,That just ain't fair!
You spent all weekend eating all of Pappy's food and didn't want it documented for fear of reprisal! Pat
meet lots of new ones, that's always good. ;DYou have that problem too? Once the old ones get to know me a little better, I have to keep making new friends. ;D Justin
Pappy
Well I just found out Greg can't make it tonight,so I guess I am own my on tonight,Guess
I will just have to wing it and see what I can come up with,Maybe brats and taters or venison
and taters don't know yet but bet I don't go hungry. :)
Pappy
Man that would be great,I hadn't hear from you so now I feel much better.Glad to see you can really type. ;D Come on down and will make Greg cry when he sees the pictures Monday. :'(
By the way for any of you folks that don't know CastIron he is one of the best dutch oven cook and general all round cook you will find and if I hadn't mentioned it the selfbow champ of the

Pappy

You're forgiven for jumping on board with Justin here awhile back when I stuck both feet in my mouth! ;D Still lookin' out for an opportunity to get even with Justin, he's been very careful though. ;)

Pappy

My wife saw them for the first time this year. Said, "Well lets go get one." OK, OK lets do it.

Now I remember why I liked hanging out with Greg while we were helping kids with bows. He never let me miss a meal. Well that and he is just a nice guy. Justin
Dang, I try to be nice and I catch grief. I wont make that mistake again. >:D JustinQuoteNow I remember why I liked hanging out with Greg while we were helping kids with bows. He never let me miss a meal. Well that and he is just a nice guy. Justin
Yeah right Justin...you're just trying to butter us up for another stave this year! ;D
Ya'll are going to have to start a strenious PT routine if ya keep eating that good - hmm maybe at least a mile of hiking up and down those hills, 10 laps up and down the tree stand, and drag two dead deer a half mile back to camp. That aught to get the ole ticker to pumpin
Buy a lic. and you can take 3 Tom's.I think the lic. are around 150.00 for 7 day big game and around 225.00 for the hole season from Feb.08 till Jan 09. it includes All seasons includingDang David, that winds up $50 per turkey, that is cheap. If you get the $225 that includes deer you wind up like $25 per animal you can legaly shoot. How much do you think it will take to fill your truck with gas to go scout the local areas? ??? Justin
Deer in the fall. :)
Pappy
Good looking dog to.Is it a male,I'm looking for a good Man for Sadie. PappyHey Pappy, are you still looking for a brindle boyfriend for Sadie? I should have one around the first of the year. Here are some pictures of the last litter. Justin
Dang Justin, wonder if the wife would let me have one, she's got 2 yorkies, thier cute butOh come on Dana, yorkies make good dog food for real dogs. >:D Start talking to the wife now. Cowboy, your math is good. Justin
thats all thier good for ;D

Wow Pappy, I got that same crockpot...but it never looks that good inside! :D....BrianMe too, I use it for hide glue. ;D Hungry now. Justin
I swear I am going to tiller my IW bow sometime this
weekend. ???
Pappy
That Prilosec works good Greg. I take one every morning and could eat jalapeno's all day if I wanted - don't think that would do the ole gut any favors though, haha
I hope I can wait till Friday! Now let me be very sure of what you're saying here, because I don't want to miss out on cobbler again like I did last week. Do you plan to make the cobbler Friday, or Saturday??? ;D
Somehow I don't think Greg ate all that cobbler himself PappyThat's right Dana, and I'm not the only one who had ice cream with it either! ;D I didn't even eat all my pepper...would have liked to, but I would have paid for it later. ;)

Wine and scotch...... I guess you boys are getting to be high class! Looks like I will have to wear my sunday best next time I come over!
Well it did take Greg three runs at that cobbler before he got it done but pappy left out the photo of Greg finishing the cobbler off during the meeting the next morning I reckon the Scotch had all evaporated by then
OK Pappy, your gonna have to start sharing your recipe book.Seems like ya'll always have some great looking chow.I envy you guys to be able to do this nearly every weekend.tradrick

Quote400grs of ceder, turkey feathers & COLD steel applied at about 170 feet per second from a hight of 15ft
You forgot the part about..."propelled by a selfbow!" :)
GregB what's for supper Friday night.I could bring a couple of deer roasts, and maybe either some stewed or mashed potatoe's...could even cook the potatoes with the roast for that matter. A pan of cornbread, and we're in business! ;)
Greg getting the last Biscut when you were not looking or dare I say Greg getting a slightly under cooked TaterGetting the last biscuit is better then no biscuit! Although a slightly under cooked tater is a slightly different matter... ;D
Uh oh! Rain down that way?!?! Thats what I'm tryin to get away from up here in the Northwest. I will bring my rubber ducky to make it feal more like home.
By the way! Where is the best place to set up my tent when I get there? And, what should I expect temperature wise? I have a -70 degree mummy bag but dont know if that will be a bit much. Anywhere to wash out some clothes? If so I will plan on three pairs of clothing and do a handwash sometime durring the Classic.
Golly baba! I am really getting excited about getting down there and I still have a bit over two months to go!!! I am afraid how I will be as we get closer to the final date.
David T
Sounds BALMY to me! We are getting rain now and 30's at night and not much or often into the 50's with humdity and wind. Sounds like paragdise! How are the mosquito conditions about then? Snakes? I hates snakes!!!
David T

If what I've been experiencing down at the club isn't "serious cooking", then I don't know if I can handle getting serious! ;) I thought I had been doing some "serious" eatin', but I could be mistaken... ;D
Thanks again for those outstanding stuffed cranberry porkchops...they had some "seriously" awesome flavor! ;D
We might even talk some politics and religion around the fire.Let me know the night you're planning to talk politic's and I'll plan something at home that night! ;D
well I dont know about politics or a religious debate, but I'll kick back and drink some Miller Lites ( necture of God )
and listen. Only 67 more days till I plan on coming down but whos counting. ;D
Ya the last time he done Old Black Water ,he was doing some praying off the front porch. ;D
the next day.I thought me was ordering a Buick but there wasn't any car salesman around. ;D ;)
Pappy
had no clue you could have an archery event without selling beer
by the way, this is my son eric (17) having a beer with dad at an archery event last summer. that is so common (and legal) in germany i couldn't imagine it would be different anywhere else.
Of course I waited. I wanted to keep my self pure.
No need to apologize to miss Joanie ,she thought it was funny. When I grew up it was 18.
Of course I waited. ;D ;) I wanted to keep my self pure. :)
Pappy
Marius and I had a thing going last year about PBR...and I didn't come through for him. No wonder he ain't coming back this year. :(...and it's all my fault. :'(
Pat
DustyBear, I want to hear more about this concession stand and the beer debacle! Sounds like a very interresting time!
Just a little bit of sunshine without rain would be nice.
.... now I wish i had friends ....... :'( lol
Dana, last weekend was nice and warm...even saw a few folks wearing t-shirts out. This weekend is supposed to be cold with mixed precip. Not the best weather for our first bow shoot of the year, but we'll persevere! :)
Life will still be good just cold. That's right!
Greg I have a nice warm spot for you this weekend of course you might smell like grilled onions for the next week but the kitchen will be warmer than the bow shedGrant, I'd better stay in the bowshed working on hickory staves...I might come around and provide some morale support though...what time did you say dinner will be served? ;)
I thought it was to. ;D ;D just in case anyone wants to see any of the old stuff I have been cleaning it up.Took out a lot of the food pictures, justin said everyone knows we eat good so
I am making room for more.I am to page 43 so if something is missing or don't make sense ,that's why.See yall tomorrow. :)
Pappy

Maybe
Greg will give us some more lessons.
QuoteMaybe
Greg will give us some more lessons.
I think I'm the one in need of lessons the way I've been shooting lately. I was reading the shooting section in Bowyers Bible IV, and makes me want to stand five yards from the bale and practice technique for the next several months. Maybe I could get over the flinching and everything else wrong I'm sure I'm doing.

There once was a man from Twin Oaks

Pappy
All ???ders only one, dats wud be liddle ol me Remember iz bringin da pasties ehDynamite comes in small packages! ;D Are you sure you're not just a scout for a marauding horde of yoopers intent on invading our fine southern land? ;)
Hmmm! Maybe we should set up a special camping area Yoopers if they are such a problem. Lets see six foot tall fences, concertina wire, guard posts, german shepards, and Patroles. Yep! That should just about do it! ;D
We only have one special camp ground,it is for the Yankees,we try and keep them in one spot so we can keep an eye on them, the last time they came south in mass like this ,it wasn't good.So
we learned to keep a close close close eye on them.
Pappy
How far to Savanah? Now that we're alerted to your coming...futther then you would want to venture to go. ;D
Stars and ars forever! Good enoughQuoteWe only have one special camp ground,it is for the Yankees,we try and keep them in one spot so we can keep an eye on them, the last time they came south in mass like this ,it wasn't good.So

Maybe we should post a guard at the entrance and have all yanks sign a temporary allegiance to the Confederacy before we allow entry... ;D
Thanks for the warning Bear...we'll pass word along to the sentries allowing you to gain entrance to our compound. ;DTHANKS
Andrea I uploaded pics to photobucket, now how to I attach them to a reply here?

Yea, there ought to be some respect for a 6'4" dude with jet black hair. ;D ;)UhOh I'll probably get pounded the next time we meet up.Yall sleep well I'm out of here.
I still say we ought to have a couple of Classic's a year to get together more often! ;DLove that idea GregB ;D
Maybe Pappy could start a primitive bow making Cult, and we could all join and move in down in the hollar at Pappy's! All day every day just scrapping on bows and beating rocks into points...and eatin' deer meat and collard greens, and cornbread, brownbeans, apple and peach cobbler, banana foster, homemade biscuits with smoked sausage and gravy and...well, you get the idea! ;D
Wouldn't that make life really good! ;)
??? ??? ??? ??? ??? Cool Aid??? ??? ??? ???I think that was a reference to Jonestown.
I still say we ought to have a couple of Classic's a year to get together more often! ;DHow about when my kids are out of school so Cody can come with me. ;) Justin

So if Pappy starts a cult what will you all use as Kool-aid?I don't think Miller has a Kool-aid flavored beer...you know that's the designated drink at the club. ;)

Hey Cracker, thanks for the venison lunch at the classic.
David it is May 1/2/3 2009.Date already set. Marie I was going through the big hot box last night and found a Hickory bow ,almost finished with SusannaH on it ,did she leave her bow there ? I putI thought we got her bow, but then again I had everyone's including Ed's in my car. I will ask her. I know that Queen Sarah suckered someone into finishing hers from last year. I will let you know. Tell JoanieB we said hello! Stay dry! pouring here. :) Oh and thank you thank you for everything at the Classic. I don't think I will be able to say thanks enough!

Pappy
Have to remind Greg about that yeller birch stave I brought him. You're right Dana...Ryan brought us a elm log in 07, and we haven't been able to find it. I'm sure it's around somewhere... ???

Dave, Grab Marius and ya'll come to the Classic next year. Ya'll can carpool. ;D ;)
Remember Ryno's bow that I got at the Classic and got Bryan Fergerson to sign? well I got Marc St.Charles, Ken Beck and Fred Asbell to sign It, it only needs one more signature, Mark "Pappy" Baggett Tennessee Classic 08.
Pappy: It caught me off guard to see a pan full of preforms mixed in with you pictures of food. At first I thought they some type of fillets :'(. You latter said that Jesse had good luck with the rocks. Can you share with us a little bit about how he treats his rocks? Thanks
Mike
You wouldn't happen to know anyone like that would you.
Wow!! You dress up pretty good for a country boy. Looks like you had a heck of a weekend. I tried to get over but it just didn't work out.
A fella called me and asked me to teach the archery merit badge at APSU on Oct 11th at the Scout Jamboree. I committed and now need to work on seeing if Pappy and Greg are willing to come help ;D
I leave for Afghanistan for a month tomorrow. I plan to try and swing by your place this evening for an hour or so.

Yep! Ya both did!!!! Now to find one myself! ;) ;D
Who could resist a look like that. Ya he had them women eating out of his hand. ;) ;D ;D ;DYeah but I had them drinking out of my wine bottle does that count.
Pappy

Pappy
Dang Bear, you must of had an agenda, all work and no play, or should I say "no can in ya hand, man!" Looks like you had great weather too, HOT & SUNNY Hope I get half as much done when I go down next month. Hey Pappy alright if I ask Brother Tom to come down with me, since he's retired too, he ain't doing nothin. I think he has to work on that bow that he was working on at the Classic.Trust me the can was at hand or at least at hand reach. We had a lot of fun. that kind of work is fun. just can get on you nerves some times >:D
Great time's had by all looks like again :). Them cane arra's look good guys, reminds me I've got some to get built for a certain princess we all know ::), it never ends ;D. Bear, I hope that peice of bodark works out for ya - looks like it's coming right along.I got Pappy to thank for that!
The Bear gettin' PRIMITIVE... I love it! Before you know it, that old Black Widow will be collecting dust... ;)Dont believe I could ever set down the widow alltogeether
I have to agree with Brother Dan, I have never seen that many pics of Bear in a row without a can in hand. He must have had an agenda! ;D
Yeah, I can't remember Bear ever going at it as hard as he did last weekend. I think he really learned a lot about chasing a grain...was doing a fine job of it.Greg thanks aigain for all your help. Dawn really enjoyed herself. All that scraping sure did cut into the drinking. But I sure did enjoy learning more about it. Kinda wish I'd finished chasing the next ring, but hand and mind where done. :-\
My brother came down and spent some time shooting, and we both enjoyed our conversation with Bear's wife while watching Bear work! ;)
I like it a lot John,it may not be as good as Osage but pretty close in my opinion. I have itPappy, your help on the range was great, I'm going to shot that bow alot before hunting season. And hopefully stop torquing the string.
almost done finely,it will get the last coat of sealer tonight ,then just a few touch ups and it will be ready for the woods. Yes it was a big time,Chad I kept Bear focused all weekend ,even got him to shoot the course with his selfbow. ;) and he done good. :) One thing that helped him was his beautiful wife was keeping an eye on him also. ;D
Pappy
Greg, finaly got the rawhide on the back of the Osage Reflex/deflex the other night. It's drying now and I hope to get it all trimmed up soon and the snake skins on it. Any suggestions on putting the snakeskins on top of the rawhide?
Pappy, looked like a great time, maybe I'll try to make it next year, You can swing by Ciny and pick me up. Do you go up 75 north or do you go up through Indy then cut over. Hope to see you in two weeks, Thursday the 21st, you know I'm going to need alot of help, so be patient. Brother DanDAN I'm sure Pappy will be patient with you. He was with me ::)
Pappy, whats bushhogging?
Ya I know Tiller, just most of the time it is me and the dogs and they don't like it.
That Mark is a very giving guy. Would rather smell like Tinks 69 for the girls, than smell like roses for his buddiesQuoteYa I know Tiller, just most of the time it is me and the dogs and they don't like it.
David, just so your feelings aren't hurt, Pappy really likes your sweet smelling soap and stuff, he just sacrifices his wants for those of Saddie and Hannah...that's just the kind of guy he is! ;D
Greg at his best, look who is in the front of the line.
That's a mighty pretty point out of your twin oaks chert! ;) Had a good time hanging stands, shooting, and petting the dogs Saturday. Can't wait until the weekend and opening day...I still get excited and have trouble sleeping the night before opening day, ...with visions of big bucks walking under my stand... ;D
Greg, By the way where are you an Anthony going to hunt Sat.?
I don't know ,it is giving me a headache.
I killed a nice 9 point 169lb buck and partner Keith killed a a 156lb 7 point that pulled us close to the lead and we waited for our other partner GregB to come in from the woods to see if he killed a nice doe maybe that would put us over the top but we found out latter he spent the afternoon in his recliner chair watching WWE Smack down reruns!!!
So Pappy, RangerB & Grant won by 8 lb's
Looks like a good time all around! Now what are ya going to do with all the meat?
Yes
Greg I got the big on he made for the deer Classic.Joanie took it and put it on the table in the living room,I probably won't get that one back.
;D ;D ;D trouble is the last time you was there you smelled up the whole holler. They would
defiantly know you was visting. ;) ;D ;D Pappy
Yep, just as soon as I can retire I'm planning to move into the Twin Oaks Retirement home! ;D Forget Bingo, I'm goin' make bows, arrows, and hunt deer! ;)
Oh, I might ought to ask Pappy first... :)
Life is good. O Ya GregB you got a bed anytime.Thank you Pappy...you made my life! ;D
Greg, if they dont allow you in the cabin you can set up a pup tent next to mine!David, I appreciate the offer...but as you can see...I GET TO SLEEP IN THE CABIN! ;D Tiller, you know of course I'd have had to set my tent up-wind from yours! ;)
Greg..That picture would be worth money.
I just love that gale. Your day is coming GregB.
I can't wait to get down there! It's always a great time. Bear, wish you Ohio boys were gonna be there. I'll drink one or two for you and Dan and Steve. I guess Greg, Pappy, and the rest of us will have to eat the peppers without you. I remember last year getting a call about a pepper order and something about being henpecked. Shamed me into coming, glad I did.Man if just one of them hadnt backed out I'd be there but I guess I'll just take the week before Indiana gun and hunt hard still saw 3 buck runnin together last sat even. but rut should be kicken in soon I hope.
David
Greg, you and Grant aught to cook something up with uncle Sam - start making mre's with venison recipe's for all the hunters abroad, hmm might be on to something there .
GregB i'm ganna have to talk you outa a few of them shafts when i get back.Consider them your's Jesse... ;)
I think we all had mmmiss'es, other then Grant...he don't ever miss! ;D
Big A, you have to see the Collard's this year. I have one plant over 4' high. I hope Grant is ready when I bring a load to the Classic.
We do take a lot of deer, not a lot of big deer but a lot of deer.It takes a lot of meatCan you imagine what the habitat and the herd would look like if you didn't hunt it? You guys are a working management plan in action with respect to sustainable harvest and overall health of the white-tail population and it's environment.
to feed GregB and Jesse ;) ;D ;D The cool thing is when we ant hunting there is always
something else going on,bow building, arrows, napping, knives, cutting wood ,cooking and
eating or just seating around the fire shooting the bull. They say good things don't last forever
but I hope it last as long as I am around. :) Skyler can't wait till Feb.The Banquite should
be a blast and congrats on the hog. :) Yall be sure and bring your stuff and yall can hunt some bushy tails while yall are there in Feb. The season will still be open. :)
Pappy
Yah! I saw a Turdy POINT BUCK!!!! :o ;DNope but I understand crazy at work ;D
Hey Bear! Did I ever send those soaps off to ya? Sorry if I didn't. I will get a couple bars in the mail. Man it got crazy here!
David T
Oh Man! Pappy fleashing hides! cool...
I see the boys gut us some walnuts.
now all we need is enough 2x4 to build 3-4 racks.
also ganna need some stove pipe and a metal trashcan. and a old paints leg and some duck tape and clothes pens.
I'll explain when i get back ;D
Plus a strong back to drag deer.
naw i dont need any food. thanks though.. i am on a diet, wanna look good for the girls when i get back ;D
Greg, when you go to shooting that bow you better put on Safety Glasses
Hope I didn't give GregB's
secrete project away,he trusted me with the info and I let it slip. I ant very good at keeping them anyway,he should know that.
Some fresh backstrap would be good also, maybe I better get out today and see what I can come up with. The fresher the better! Good luck! ;)
What go's around comes around huh Greg.. Sounds like the same thing i did for you behind your house opening weekendYeah, I was thinking the same thing Jesse! ;) I'm really glad it worked out the way it did, Pappy got to take a deer with a knapped point given to him by a good friend...can't hardly get any better then that! :)
Don't let him fool you...Greg likes to pose for those eat'in shots....lol....after all this time of trying to dodge Pappy taking pictures of me eating, you finally just get wore down and take the picture and get it over with so I can eat! ;D Ryan and I hunted several times together and although we hunted over some decent and fresh traveling sign, we didn't have any luck spotting deer. I did enjoy spending time with Ryan riding around LBL and getting to know him better. He started the trip off on a bad note with a virus that took him a couple of days to get over. :'( But did finally get to feeling well enough to hunt. I didn't have any more episodes of my throat swelling, so that was good. I'm still taking medicine for it.
Maybe next year we can do a hog hunt or somethingThe idea's appealing -- but finding hogs between LBL and New York might be tough. I'd hate to think of you guys travelling further south.
got to keep up my image. It somehow got deleted.
Jesse, I may not have the full dozen finished by the Classic...but I'll try! Need to make me some too sometime, deer season was rough on my supply.
Greg is going to put one of his fancy grips on it so my Yankee buddy should love it.
I'd much rather be splitting hickory staves instead of working on repairs...hopefully the insurance will take care of it.
I for one would go
stark raving mad without it, I am almost there anyway. At least that's what I am told.

Hi Pappy, It's been a while. Can you let me have the Twin Oaks address? I got something for you guys you might like.
Thanks, John
Greg that stave is Yellow Birch not maple
GregB will probably be there if he can get through the gate with that big head.LoL Good one :)
GregB will probably be there if he can get through the gate with that big head.Yeah, that gate might be a problem at that...any chance you could widen it this afternoon before I get there? ;D
Good luck ED. Let us know how it turns out.Ron
I went ahead and did the deed tonight rather than let the flowers have another day to wilt. Candy and flowers went over well.RonGood luck ED. Let us know how it turns out.Ron
Thanks Ron....I'll keep You posted!! I got it all done...just have to wait till tomorrow to go and set it all up....She is going to be quite surprised!!
Greg must be on a diet as there are no pictures of him eating this week
AHHH! Greg and food is like me and soap!!! It's just the nature of the thing!
See Greg, I didn't even mention you.
Got a big weekend planed, got to finish getting ready for the TTAS banquet and a few more odds and ends for the Classic.Bro. Bear and Bro. Dan are comming in today,Dan wants to finish up a
Osage bow he started a while back so he can shoot it at the Classic. It is always fun when the
Ohio boys come in. I hope to get time to lay out some Hickory and finish tillering my Osage, never seem to have time for my own stuff, that's OK I have plenty of bows to shoot. :) You can bet we
will eat good and I am sure there will be some big lies around the fire. Hope yall have a good one
also.I will have some pictures of the fun Monday. Life is good. :)
Pappy
I guess since "Thundernose" doesn't demand attention he always gets overlooked! I made it down with Bro. Dan and Bear, had the usual great time, told some lies and watched GregB eat...
Almost finished a piece of hickory I've had for 2 years, Pappy says it's coming along fine, if he is impressed, I am impressed. Will definitely finish it at the Classic and start a new one (hopefully similar to snakey piece of Osage Pappy's working on).
See everyone in May!
Heck if Greg was El Presidento we would all eat good anyway ;)
The only bad thing about going to Twin Oaks is the part where you leave. It was a great event for TTAS and, as always, one of my personal favorite places to be.Man another Bear this is going to keep Mark on his toes
Greg and Pappy, thanks for all your help on my snakey stave. It actually looks more like a bow now. Cant decide whether to work it down and put it on the form, or just rough out that other nice peice I have and heat them both at the Classic. Guess I should leave the nocks uncut on at least one of them. ;)
You guys have way to much fun down there!I must agree... ;)
I really have to put the Classic into my adgenda for next year. Looks like it's bout an 8 hr drive one way for me.
Either way, there's plenty more were that came from, and it has Classsssic written all over it.
Just got the word, jesse and Dave Killed 2 this morning,1 Nice tom 20lbs 10in. beard and 1 in. spurs and 1 jake
Did you ever put those tips to the test? Been wondering.Alex, as for the tips...agony of defeat! :( We got the bow to a low brace Saturday on the tillering tree, and had flexed it beyond full brace. However, Sunday I had a short string I was attempting to full brace it with for the first time while using a stringer. The glue joint gave way and with my right hand resting on the top limb about to put the string in the groove while pulling up with my left hand on the handle, the sudden break of the glue joint also I'm guessing caused the top limb to break just out of the fades as well due to my right hand on the limb not moving while my left hand on the handle was pulling up. My right hand was scrapped up a little, and there was a large piece of the tip I still haven't found. :o
Wearin are swampers and chooks too ;) :D
Hey Pappy maybe we could have poke the cracker day poke the hillbilly day and maybe even poke the pappy day.Ron >:D
O ya Jesse and his new girl friend,Good looking girlfriend there Jesse, remember yall need to keep it clean down at the club...children watching! ;D
Well it is only 9 for me. ;) ;DOh well yeah rub it in.
Pappy

Sure Ron! Dont worry about the quiver though. I have a hip quiver I picked up at the last Classic I will be bringing along with bracer and glove. Thanks again! This is going to be fun!!!
Hey, ya got a great accent Ron! Very distinguished.
Yep! Very distinguished sounding. One has to be very patient to hear the ending of the sentance! ;D Jokes aside I think the Geargia accent is the best of the southern accents. Reminds me of Ret Butler in Gone With The Wind!Frankly Tiller......
All right I will stop now! It was all in good jest.>:D
Oh Brother! What have I started!?!?! ;DIt's too late Tiller we tried to warn you but you wouldn't listen. We tried to stop you but you kept on.Now we're gonna have to do evil things to you.BWAHAHAHAHHA >:D
Gee! I'm shaking in my boots. ::) ;D
Gee! I'm shaking in my boots. ::) ;DBe afraid Tiller Be verrrrry afraid.
Don't worry everyone I'm getten my accent on! Fer Sure, DUDE!!! Absolutly KNARLY!!!!Wow dude like really cool. I wonder if we'll be able to figure out which one is Tiller now that he has an accent. ::)
I don't know how the weather will be all week but as of now it is supposed to be in the mid 50sFrom what I hear it wouldn't be the classic without a little rain.Ron
at night and low 80s in the day time through at least Wed.of next week.Hope it holds for the weekend. :) If not O well wehave all been wet before. :)
Me neither! You sure its the same Ron we know???
By the way if its going to be up in the 80's with humidity you may need a wheel barrow and a shovel to peel me off the sidewalk. Not used to hotter temps with humidity anymore!
If not O well we have all been wet before. :)Yep pappy....My Ole Man always told me when We were either working or hunting....that ...."You only get so wet....and then it runs off!!!!"
Two cups of Smirnoff to one cup of orange juice. Three times in one hour.If you don't believe it try it.Ron
Wow Pappy life really is good. That bird looks as big as you in the photo.Ron
Hmm! Just looked at the pictures again and saw the one with me and Jesse in Cammo. Two things I realized! 1) Cammo looks pretty good one me! 2) I have to get some exercise!
David T
and the fine bow Mullet left at the club.
I don't know how he is going to get along without that one. ;) ;D Pappy
Pappy, I'll get it next year unless a beaver snacks on it between now and then. It does have a nice string, though.
Auggie, I heard about the same on that bow of Mullet's. I thought it was a walking stick at first, lots of character :D
It hinged on me just when it hit full draw. Bummer! James is sending me a new blank. He mentioned he thought the glue may not have set up right because of the low temps in the heat boxes.
Tiller

Tiller
Hey David, I was there when it hinged on you. Glad to hear you are getting it worked out!
I am already ready for next year, I'm looking forward to heading back up to build another one haha!
Greg, That look like a fun project. I'm sure it will be a beautiful snake bow when you're done with it.Thanks Pat and Tomi, I'm real pleased with it so far...and the risky part is behind me now! ;) I'm sure Pappy and BigA will turn out some beauties as well, going to be cool for the three of us to go hunting together with our triplet bows this fall! Have I mentioned lately that "Life is Good!"? ;D
Just a couple more weeks Bear and you will be there with us,can't wait. ;)Me either . Let me know what we need to bring to to help out with dinners and that.
Pappy
Hey guys, I just did some back tracking on the site here and it made me miss ya all, kinda miss sitting down to a meal with you. especially all the game you cook. My mouth was watering as I looked at the pics.
Just wanted to say Hi, glad you have this post so we can all see how "life is good".
VB
I still think Pappy ought to open up a Twin Oaks Retirement Home! ;D
Now thats amouth full
Well, with you being our secret Southern Spy, secretly disguised as a Yooper, just watin fer the South to rise again, and raise the Stars and Bars up there, and funnelin down dem Yooper words, so's we kin use em when we invade and take over the lutefisk vats, and hold em fer ransom to support the effort, I have gained a plethora of Yooperisms. Keep up the good work Brother, the Sons of the Confederacy is right proud o ya. :) Oh hey der, kinda keep dis under yer Kromer hey. ;) We wouldn't want all yer hard work ta be fer nuttin now. ;) Oh, uh, the boys wuz wonderin if'n there wuz anythin you might be a needin, in the way of Grits, possum fritters, possum on the half shell, (armadillo) fat back, turnips, collards, snap peas, butter beans, sweet taters, etc.? If'n you do , then we might have to make a night raid on ol Mullets garden, whilst he is out hog stickin. He ain't one to ta send his garden up north. Sorta sticks in his craw. Well you jes keep up the good work, and, oh uh by the way, I think we might promote you to a Kentucky Colonel. No free coupons or anything, but just the rank. ;) Ok, I think I better get off'n this h'yar thang, and let you git back to Yooperin. Hey, keep an eye on that El Destructo Feller, I think he might be a counter intelligence plant from up yonder. :o Ok, watch yer step, if the ice hasn't melted yet. Keep a good supply o them there frozen Pasties. We ain't got none o them down here, but a moon pier will frizbie really well. Like one o them Ninja shuriken, or throwing stars. Reverend Puffball is real good at tossin em, from a kudzu patch. Take care now ya hear.
Wayne
Wayne
Cool bear, could make that an even 15 ;D ;D Got 3 more and since we have the stave's I thought the more the merrier. If not I have a few at the club they can use. :)I'll use the last 3 to do the demo and let the boys do the work if you think thats a good idea.
Pappy

Lordy! Do I wish I lived a few states closer!!! That looks like a really fun weekend. ;DTiller I'm only about 4 1/2 hours away and have the wifes ok to go when I want but its still hard to find the time.
Eddie and Chris were going cool. ;) :) and proof there was some hogs there, this young man took 2 in the 90/100 lbs. range. It was fun and I for sure want to make it back. They had a major flood this spring that flooded out all the food plots and also between the heat in the mid 90"s and a full moon we had a lot working against us,That's why we call it hunting not Killing. ;) :) Hope yall had a good one.Now back to the cabin ,my traveling is over for the year and I need to get ready for Deer season, maybe it will cool down.Life is good. :)
Pappy
Greg better kill that snake in his hand. Looks like it's still all kinked up and slitherin'
110 days fellas. 110 days left.
Greg that might be what your flinching is all about you are thinking you are fixing to get bit, maybe you should just give it to me and get you a straight one with no skins. Wink Grin Now there's an Idea. With the progress you made on your snake bow over the weekend, you'll have it with the ability to bite before long! Looking good! ;)
Looks like a fine weekend. When's the season open? I ain't even paid no attention since it will only depress me. Big A and Greg have a pair of nice snakes there. Looks like they shoot straight too! I've got 106 days left. It's going fairly fast for being gone.
Jimmy
could you put me down as kinfolk, you know when you don't have anybody else to pass them down to. You know I haven't gotting one from GregB or BigA yet. Oh well, I will talk to ya all later. Brother Dan
Greg how your sleep apnea? Thanks for asking Bear...doing okay I guess. I'm getting used to having my head "strapped in" at night, and I'm sleeping fine with it now. Not snoring, so the wife has rejoined sleeping with me and she is in a much better mood then she has been, so that's good! ;D
I guess Jesse felt the need for safety glasses with that contraption he was shooting! So you noticed that did ya? ;)
I'll be willing to help! ;D May take me a while to get there though! That would involve you getting out of bed and going out.
David T
Wasn't planing on it,but I cancelled my MRI and was there when the others showed up,Glad I did now ,shot pretty good for a change. :)Did I miss something whats the MRI for Mark?
Pappy
I wish you bright days, a fall season with trees of color, and straight shooting arrows! :)

Sorry about the miss, but it happens, what was you shooting, your selfbow/glass or wheels. :)
Come see us sometimes.Hunting has been slow around the farm.Haven't seen many deer but lots of Turkey,I just can't seem to hit them, missed another good tom yesterday evening. :)
Pappy
You are right Chad I had to come back to work to get a little rest.I prefer the good type of tired over the going back to work myself! ;)
:) Of course anytime is a good time to be in the woods. :) :)
Pappy
I only wish I was as good with a Rifle as I am with a 1911 Colt!!Get a single shot, it will do wonders for your accuracy. ;)
Can't wait till May it is always great seeing all my old friends and meeting new ones at the Classic. :) :)
Pappy

Sarah in the interest of earning a few brownie points i will save you some salsa and this stuff is not made in new york city.Ron
So do I get the points now or do I have to deliver first?
Just saw your rebuild of the broken bows for Joe.. you are the man Pappy, very cool.. joe will make lots of meat with that beauty...
BearG, Beerfest, Where at and why didn't you call me. Pappy, that is a good looking quiver. Woody, good job on the gun case and Jessie, that hoe you made is really neat, did you get to use it yet, howed it do. See you soon. Brother Dan P.S. Ranger B, glad your home.downtown Hyatt I thought I told you
Can't fatten her up,I have tried, she is a running machine and eats like a pig, just to much energy.Sadie would chew it up for sure. You ever going to find her a boyfriend??????????????
The dogs don't seem to mind but they have never been inside.I have a good house for them with straw and cedar chips and they do fine.I thought about a vest but she would probably just chew it off. :) I put a flap on the dog house and they chewed it off . :) ;D They like the open spaces. :)
Pappy
Nice hat Dana. That Bo is looking good.Bear I haven't found one yet, going to have to be a special man for my girl. ;) ;D and Jesse has to approve also. ;Dnow you know Jesse wpuld get to jealous to ever let his girl have a boy friend
Pappy
David, who said that I had plans to come back home? I have a one way plane ticket and I figured if Pappy helped build my shelter (and he has) (tipi poles) that I could stay as long as I wanted. ;D Always thought it would be nice to find someone to let me pitch my tipi nd live on the ranch >:D I hear the retirement program is great and from the brochures that I've seen it looks like the food is fantastic. They bring friends by to visit on the weekends and they have a never ending supply of bow wood. ;D You can even run around in a Scottish skirt if you get a mind to. :D :D However I've heard rumor that you want to stay away from the spring water. ::) guess they use it to clean the pipes or something ::);D LOL Twin Oaks Retirement? Sounds great to me too sign me up! ;D
It even made one feller eat bugs-not mentioning any names or anything, though.EDDIE
;D ;D ;D ;D
Tim said it might be some kind of high bread or mix.

Great to have good friends around when you need them! Thanks again Bear for your help on taking split hickory logs down to bow blanks on the bandsaw...couldn't have done it without you bud! ;)no problem brother
Man... I wish we had smething like that in Ireland :'(
Looks like a really nice get together you guys had :)
...besides becomming a Father.... ;D
Hey Greg, what's that all over your face ?You mean besides ugly? I guess a bit of a beard with a generous sprinkling of grey mixed in. :)
I think Brother Bear got himself a new set of bibs. You have to get some Osage scrapins and sawdust on em to brake them in Bear, not hickory. Brother Dan2 NEW PAIR ;D
Nah, Dana, I am retired, not retarted. ::) I ain't about to put that uniform on! :P
Wayne
Bear, I had enough vacation to stay till the Classic. I would have loved to but would have had to find another job and wife.
[/quot Well you got a nice wife so cant blame you for not getting rid of her.
Hey Bear is 2-day Darrell coming to the Classic? If he is, I would like him to bring me a few bottles of Gator Sprinkle, he knows what I am talking about. We put it on the fish and frog legs at Cloverdale and we can't get here.
[/quote
Dont think he is coming but I dont know. I think you can order that off the internet.
Pappy, did Joanie get another block of cheese? I've got a feeling we might have been a little short of supply...not quite capable of covering a burger if you know what I mean? ;D
Ta Hell with my Job....I will be there Wednesday....just like last year.....so Bear.....Ronnie....be prepared....I am tired of their crap......if I get fired....so be it.....I need to get away for a while......need some peace....and kind faces......bad
;D ;D ;D It looked like a solid block...that is until I cut it, and then it was too late! :'( The damage was done, and BigA saw me do it so the cat was out of the bag for sure! ) I knew I was toast when Pappy found out (which didn't take but a very few minutes after my good buddy BigA saw my innocent mishap!). Worse yet, Pappy told Joanie...and Joanie don't take no prisoners! I've managed to avoid her wrath so far, but I know it's only a matter of time before the storm hits! :( :)
Pappy is exaggerating about the number of slices I think...couldn't have been more then seventy-five or so. ;)
Bear make sure you got power coming to that prong of the plug in on your truck then worry about the trailer. On my truck there is a separate fuse for each trailer function in a box under the hood. That ususally does it when I have problems. You should be able to look in the owners manual and find exactly which one it is. It'll save time as there are many fuses in that box.It was the fuse and we cant find anything thats blowing it.
Ronnie

Who got the mug? I thought Kathie got it and she thought I did. If it's at Twin Oaks still and somebody wants to start it off, we should send it to Tiller first. ;DIt's still down there saw it Sunday before we pulled out.
Pappy, did the creek flood out your shop? That must have been one heck of a storm! He was speeking of his place of work, not love. (but it had its own creek must of the weekend)
Hey Pappy looks like you guys got it under controll. Take care of my mug I'll see you next year. Life is good Ronnie

Cookville is a little over an hour, east of us. Hate you can't make it Dave,BigA won't be there either for the same reason, except it's a granddaughter. You guys need to talk to your girls and tell them they need to get the timing right, about late Dec. would be a great time to have a kid. ;) ;D ;Dnow thats funny.
I understand completely,I once had to miss an evening Bowhunting because Miss Joanie decided to have Beau in the middle of the day instead of at night like I told her. ;) ;D ;D

Glad you enjoyed it Ron. I know I did. :) :) How did your scouting trip go. ???Pappy went well I was pleased with the place lotta bottom land and heavy timnber big oaks for acorns took a few pot shot at an armadillo with the .22 pistol we actually jumped up a small buck found some scrapes from last year and had ducks in the pond that took off as we stepped out of the woods. Sorry no pics I forgot my camera in the excitement of getting down there. It's the first time I've gotten together with both of my sons in quite a spell. It was kinda like old times.
Pappy

Had a great time last night,Keenan and LuLyn and there son came to the cabin to visit,Marie and kidsLast night sure was fun. Too short of a visit for me. It was great to see everyone and to finally meet Keenan and Lulyn!

Hey Pappy you are one lucky guy. I wish I was nice enough to have as many friends as you. I'm just too mean I guess.CrackerYou do have a lot of friends...We just don't come and see you as often as we do Pappy ;D
Gonna be there Friday Bear? If so what time cause I'd like to be there when you arrive.nope Sat. morning sometime.
John
I've got the same problem with the left ear, Pappy. I couldn't tell where a turkey was when he gobbled. I got that Walker Quad Ear Muffs and that solved my problem.I was going to suggest Mark get a walker game ear. The guys I know that have them love them. Unless its a windy day then off they come. I tried a cheap version acouple years ago but between the jets, crows, and nieghbors it was to loud. Not to mention every squirrel souned like big Lou was comiing in.
If you get the quad muff's, they have a fine tune that you can get rid of the wind and planes.I'll have to check those out
Don't feel like your alone Pappy...I can't hear in Stereo any more either....65% deaf in my Right Ear...and it sure screws you up when it's like that....can't tell directions of any noises heard...you drop something on the floor...and have no idea which way it went...footsteps in leaves don't have any definite directions...it's hell getting old...ain't it....... :P
Good grief you guys are killin me. I gotta tear away and make the trek up there for one of these weekends.RonJust what the Doctor ordered!!!!
typo ::)A brain is a terrible thing to waste. But sure is fun tyring.
The jokes i could make ;D
Sometimes I think we take for granted some of the blessing we have.
What? No Novembere BearG. Who's gonna make our breakfast? ;D
David
[/quot Nov. aint out of the picture
Your the man Bear, can't wait. :) Hope momma is making at least one of them trips. :)July in Tenn. for her.

Me too Pappy I'm just too dang far away. Ron
Pappy, thanks for all your efforts with this thread, It is awesome to watch all that is going on down there
Pappy - Another cape hanging for you. Also, meat is cut, wrapped and in the freezer. There are some steaks, roasts, 4 shoulders, stew meat, and sssshhhhhhhh quite a bit of backstrap. Also, there is one roast that is labeled, "Bear sized roast." I think that speaks for itself. You might want to wait until Bear visits to cook that one up ;)Well if Mark didnt cook so dam good I wouldnt eat so much LOL
The girlfriend pulled my dogwood bow back the other evening...she is showing some interest in learning to shoot. She's a lefty...you have to stand on your head while making a left-handed bow...how does that work? ;)

Making a lefty is easy Greg, just do like Auggie and after ya spend all that time making your bow...ya just cut the shelf in the wrong side, lolI am so glad to see this, I am working on a lefty right now and wondered how to do it, ;D >:D Thanks guys,
You make her a good a bow, teach her to shoot, give her a good knife......she might fill up your freezer ;D ;D ;D

... Jon seen some arrow cleaners and made up a few for the guys in the club,...
Hey, are these build after my post? Really would like to see a cloce up!
Sonny, the sheath isn't finished yet. You have to dampen the leather to carve on it so I usually give it a day to dry back out before I work on it anymore. I sometimes end up with as much time in the sheaths as I have in the knife. They can be very time-consuming. I'll post a pic when I finish it, might be a few days...greg I've been doing alot of leather work myself, but I suck at carving and your right it takes alot of time. I have a couple of friends at my local Tandy that will do any curving for me. If I do there lacing for them ( Mexican Basket weave). Trying to make up a bunch of hip and pocket quivers and a few other thinks to trade or sell at the Classic.
Ya them boys are hard on squirrels. I ant sure how many GregB has taken this year but I know it has been a bunch. :)
Pappy
He won 2nd place for old and decrepit. ;D ;D ;D

Alright Young-un....don't make me come to Tennessee.....and hurt your hands with my hard head now.....
Ah marriage. Marriage is like a deck of cards. At first all you need are two hearts, and a diamond. Then at the end you wish you had a club and a spade. >:D

I will get those pictures posted sometime this weekend I took while down there. Eddie, I'll email yours to you too. Got bad news yesterday. It looks like they have moved that shutdown back a week. Might not make the Classic now. :( :( I should have took you up and the rock, paper, scissors game Eddie. ;) Well, got to go to work now.Tell them Bear said you have to be there and they will let you come. Mike, I'm sure Pappy and the rest of the Twin Oaks crew are neck deep in their clean up after the Classic. You know, patience is a virtue! ;)
Great to see you again. Glad you and Patrick had a safe trip home.
I do remember getting a funny look while sanding down my moose billet I got from Eric's rocks. I was wondering (and dont remember who it was now), "why in the world are they looking at me funny"....sat back down and only THEN did I see the sign "Wood Only!" above that sander. :-[ ooops. I did go back to make sure I didn't hurt anything (i.e. the belt) and it was no worse for the wear, so that was good. Sorry about that Pappy. Atleast I wasn't grinding down a knife or something!antler is ok n that one. the sign was put there for scrapers. the look was probably for the smell
It mighta just been BearG... im just sayin, hehehe 8)

Dave, I would have bet a turkey hunt when you said there were three of you up that late that Brother Dan and Bear were there. Nothing like being under the bow shop listening to the rain hit the roof sipping a Miller Lite. ;DYou got that right Eddie, except I cut the top out of the can and poured it down! ;D

What a great weekend. As I've always said, once they show up, the ladies were a lot of fun!. We took some great notes this year. We have a few things to improve upon, but it went extremely well. The Trad Tech Team was a great addition. Until next time.... ::) ;D ;D ;D .........sorry Ranger, but I just couldn't help it. Well, we made it home. During the 2nd leg of our 10 hour trip, I popped Will's CD in. During the middle of "Life Is Good" I turned to look at , Miss Heather wiping her leaky eyes. We'll be sure to post some pics as soon as we downsize a few. Between Miss Heather and myself, I think that we took over 800 pics.heather is wonderful!! She needs to meet Lulyn, Keenan's wife. wow that would have been a great fireside chat!! I need Heather's email I have some info. Or I will just p.m. you Matt.
We'd like to thank Pappy, Miss Joanie and the Twin Oaks Members for hosting one of the greatest vacations anyone could ask for. We enjoyed the entire week, though it went speedy fast. We'll definitely be back in 360 days, or less.
Life IS Good (Thank you, Will) ;)
Matt
Matt, it was great to meet you and Heather. I enjoyed our talks about the sinew backed shorties. Your coral snake horn bow had me drooling and wanting to build one. Maybe I'll have one to show you next year. ;)New addition?? What?? :o
Best of luck with the new addition to your family. I hope you will let us know when the special event happens.
Pat, same here. I felt like you and Eddie were old friends even though I never met either one of you in person before.Steve, that's the magic of the place...and it gets better every time you go! I wish I'd had more time to spend with people though. There never seems to be enough time :(
Seabass, just what ever you do man, make sure the water is on 2 ft deep. At least you will be able to stand up and still breath then..... ::) Hope you get him Steve. Get some pictures if you can.Man Charlie thats mean. Can't beleive you beat me to the short joke >:D
one good thing about being short at the classic is,i don't hit my head on that support beam in Pappy's workshop like i see all those tall guys doing.LOL:) :) :) :) :)
Fun times for sure. I'm sorta getting the hang of making sheaths. Now to try my hand at quivers. Life has been good.I have patterns for a couple I'll try to remember t bring down>
Nope. No Wee-Wickie, yet. Dont' know how she can get much bigger. Miss Heather insisted on going to the NASCAR race a couple of weekends ago. It was 90+ degrees in the infield. While there, she swallowed a tire. ;D  (She's gonna kill me...)

Matt, if she don't have that baby soon, Gary is going to have to build a bigger bow for it ;D
Maybe a big bowl of chili will get things going ;D
That worked for my wife.
I don't see how Matt eating a big bowl of chili's will send his wife into labor... ::) 8) lol

Pappy it is nice to see you have fun and socialize without having to work at the same time.you guys deserve it.
Soon buddy, soon. You can trust me when I say Im not avoiding it or getting lazy. Its all about family obligations that same weekend nearly every year.
Looks like another great weekend for Sure!! Pappy I neck shot a big doe yesterday on a military hunt if you want the hide. No hole in the body. :) That makesdave, Steve Parnell and I worked on bows this weekend and thought it was ironic working in flip-flops and shorts and listening to Christmas music.
two for if ya want em. Didn't see but two deer all weekend. It's been warm and raining. It ain't suppose to be that way for December. Your osage is looking good.
You guys take it easy.

How ya doing, Bear! Hope all is well.
Doing pretty good, just been busy at work and kinda got of track with all the fun things in life. I am going to still make you a pocket quiver. Sorry I hadn't do it by now but work has been a nightmare, they told me this trip to the Classic would be my last time I could take off at the end or begining of a month. I told them I was going before I worked here and could be going without working here, so now I'm trying to get back into the things I enjoy and not worrying about this place all the time.
I hope Miss Heather isn't pissed that I never posted for BOM, but I never finished it. I'm going to take it in March and finish it then. Can't wait to see you guys in a few months.
IW is Iron Wood

What is this thread about?
What is this thread about?
looks like you had a great weekend.i hope the amish come back to the classic.they are good people and great cooks.we will show them a good time.
Hell yeah 8)+1
Great weekend, I wish I was there and can't wait till November. I'm still in Florida, the trip to Spain got put off a few days. And, that tree is a Papaya.
Happy birthday Beau. And Congratulations to Jesse and Abby. From the picture it looks like Bear flew over and hitched them up. :)That does look like Bear!
Now I know why I have never seen a deer around Twin Oaks. They are all in Pappy's freezer. ;D Great job guys.Natural born killer he is. If a deer sees Pappy looking at it, it just walks up and says "Let's get this over with." That's how he gets all those close shots.

"Life is good" really has a strong meaning you find out that your biopsy's are negative. Today, Life is truly good and I have thanked our Lord over and over for that.
Thanks JW. Very very few knew about my illness. Don't believe in pity parties. I have to go back in 6 months for a re-check.
I can say that I have a very different out look on life. I really appreciate my grandkids and especially my wife of 41 years who prayed on her knees every night for me.
Pearlie, my daughter can't hunt. I've been helping out with this hunt for close to twenty years. It's for people that have a medical form filled out by a doctor and approved by our DNR. It is actually legalized poaching cause they get to shoot from the truck. :) Then we helpers track, if needed, drag and gut their deer for them. I hope when I get old and can't get around there are people still doing it so I can get out
David
Nice deer Will.LOL Pat... I tried that myself but i just couldnt take it no more... On the bright side, when i shaved it off i found 2 twinkies & my truck keys.. :o.... Brian
Keep practicing with your beard. It's not bad for a young beard. . ;)
PappySame Here. will be praying for all of you!
Don't have the right words, other than to say I will be a praying for all involved !!
Guy
I need an explanation for this mythical 7 point. Are you in a competition? Is this the only point combination you haven't killed?? I've been hearing it talked about a lot but I don't understand the importance.
There is nothing like a day in the woods. If I can't get out at lease a little while for a week or 2 I start getting stressed and antsy. It calms my nerves.
Marks,we don't talk about it much because some people get the wrong idea and so it is just among our club, [ don't want to get a your are right or you are wrong thing started] :) :) :)TwinOaks has a White tail grand slam [we call it]
we are not trophy hunters so what we did was made a board and every deer that is killed [bow]your name goes on the board in the proper place under doe/spike/3/4/5/6/7/8plus.When you fill in all the slots you get the pot,the club puts in $100.00 a year and this one has been going on for 9 years, all I need is a 7 to fill the slots and have needed it for 4 years now. The last one took 10 years to finish and I won it, it took me 4 years to kill a 6 point. :) Hope this don't get any bad press or controversy started ,it is just something we do in the club. :) :) Hope that clears up the 7 point thing. :) Friday and I am so glad .been a long and sad week. Headed to the cabin today and then got a funeral tomorrow evening.Hope to get some shop time in today,it is trying to rain here and then is supposed to turn really cold so with the rain hunting may be out for me. That's OK need some time in the shop anyway. Hope yall have a good one. See ya Monday.
Life is Good. ;) :) :)
Pappy
Ya gotta get in the woods to see them, David. ;)
Nothing really changes for me much, very routine, boring life but it is good for sure. ;) :)
Pappy
Happy anniversary Steve and Angie. Which one is this?
Thats a picture of whats left of the entire Tennessee deer herd after a successful season by the Twin Oaks crew :)LOL They better get to making more. Them boys will be hungry again next year. >:D
Thats a picture of whats left of the entire Tennessee deer herd after a successful season by the Twin Oaks crew :)You got that right!! Deerslayers all.
It's good to get to live and re-live good times at Twin Oaks through all of those pictures. You guys don't know how good you have it out there. "Life is Good" is an understatement. How many days till the Classic?111 days until I'm planning on being there. 118 until the real date
Hey Jesse, Happy New Year, Buddy. Heading for the Negev Desert Saturday.
So, How did Jon tan that possum so fast?
Looks like it's gonna be a hard tour. ;D
Clint, the only thing I've seen to run over are sheep and camels. They like to stand in the middle of the around on the back side of curves. I was three hundred yards from Jordan when I took those pictures.
Looks like another great weekend. All these pictures are getting me fired up for the Classic.+1
You are right, just good to be on the right side of the grass. ;) :)
Just got the word,my boss was so impressed with the way we handled the bad week ,that he told me to get out of here early today ,so I am out of here in an hour or so. ;D ;D Got to love a good boss. ;) :) :) :) :) Life is really good now. ;)Have fun wish I was there. Question Dawn's s-10 Blazer with the 4.3 , last year I had to put on a distidture cap (cracked) . well I just had to put on another this one wasn't cracked but cyl. 1 and 4 where miss firing bad. No moisture we could see but cap took care of problem. any clues or ideas? wires are also new from last year, distibuter is about2 or3 years old.
Pappy
@BearG -Thanks rotor is new, wires ran away from manifold. I'm thinking it was just a cheap cap, the AC delco I put on last night looked better quality.
Try replacing the rotor as well. Check to see if any of the wires are touching the manifold or other heat source any where. On my old van I replaced all three, dist cap, rotor and wires and will hit290k miles on the way home. Make sure all plugs are gapped correctly, not cracked from installation and all wires are seated fully.
Glad you enjoy ot silverfox, where are you from ? ;) :)
Pappy
Cool, not that far away, come visit sometime. :) Got the leather build up glued up on my Yew bow grip yesterday evening [can't stand them small/flat handles on a bend through handle bow] and some weight taken off, should be ready to string and finish tillering by the weekend. :) cross your fingers. :-\ ;) :)

Thank you, I would love to come down sometime and see everything going on. I love snow myself, but I hate the below zero temps we have had. We have had so much snow this year we don't need anymore, so you can have this round of it. I hope you get a good covering and have a wonderful time playing in it, and look forward to any pictures you post.
Silverfox, where abouts in Ohio, we're around the CIncinnati area. BDan

Steve, Seabass, is just down the road in Middletown he is most likely the next closest person to you on here after me, him and Bear in Cincinnati, make the trip to Pappys someday maybe you can catch a ride!
For those that have never been to Pappy's place in TN, you owe it to yourself to go. It is better than the photo's show with a very helpful and friendly crew. There are no strangers down there as everyone is made to feel right at home.+1
Can't wait either Matt it will be good to see your crew. ;) Had a good weekend, got the ranges set/concessions cleaned and order made up/registration all ready for this Saturday. Also had some time in the shop, lots of bow/arrow and knife work going on after the working. Got my Yew shooting out to 50@25,just another inch or so.It seems really quick and smooth with no shock. No pictures for now :( >:( hooked my camara up thios morning on this new computer and it said I had 7000 + pictures on it,now thats some pictures. See Ya Friday
don't know what the problen is,YET. :-\ pictures soon I hope. Hope yall had a good one.
Life is Good.
Pappy
Thanks Bear, pleasure was all mine. Got the rock down on the new road yesterday also got 3 more Hickory on the form, down to 3 adults and 4 kids, should finish them up this evening,Jon and I are starting on the arrows for the Classic awards and also the trophies fro the selfbow challenge ,hope to make a dent in that this weekend.I hope to get my Yew done, at least to the weight I want, just hadn't had time this week to even look at it. ??? Going to try and work in one more hide also and smoke the one that is finished. I laid the brains out yesterday to thaw, Also Sally is getting fixed today so she ant going to be very happy when the vet gets there. :) Should be a full weekend for sure. Hope yall have a good one also. ;) :)
Life is Good. ;) :) :)
Pappy
John, that's to let them move. The whole shelter is leaning real bad. Where pulling it over with a chainfall then gonna brace them off on the other side, if we didn't relive the bases of the poles they would have likely busted. Thanks Will, I was just wonder what you guys were up to on that.
Wow, the calcium from last years painting made it a year at the Spirit Station. That's some good stuff. Can't wait to get back down there!!Wow we just learned something big...calcium carbonate (shells) cooked over a fire created calcium oxide powder. When added to water creates calcium hydroxide (slake lime) which is very strong basic solution. Therefore, I guess the lime stone bonded well with the our solution. it is chemically bonded is my guess...and that is a cool primitive thing to take away from this observation! One more note... over time the Calcium Hydroxide will convert to Calcium Carbonate or commonly called chalk and whiten which is what we are most likely seeing.
Looks like it's gonna be another GOODER!, dpgratz
...and it makes a great heartburn remedy! ;)cool...and added to skim milk white wash paint and add some salt for outside paint
Pappy, sure looks like you've made alot of great improvements to twin oaks, the road sure looks nice.
It's too bad we couldn't come this year, it's our 25th Anniversary, i thought "I'll take my lovely wife to the greatest destination in the world, we'd be surrounded by the worlds kindest folks, we'd dine on fine food, engage in the best activities, be able to bask in the sun" Anyone else see where I was goin with this? Twin Oaks and the Classic, but, I was told we were going somewhere else. So i have to spend it at a Bed And breakfast. So much for flintknapping on that weekend. But you have to suck it up sometimes and think of somebody other than yourself, she deserves it.
Hey, I found this picture that truely made me smile, one of the most generous guys I know, Jon, I'll miss ya buddy.
I'll watch for pictures on the prep for this years classic, i'll be with ya'll in spirit.
VB
Michael, I should would like to know what Megan is saying while she's pointing at Pops!
Collards and salmon look tasty, got the fingers still crossed. :) Motel Reservations are confirmed for three nights.
Wheeew, whooo! ;D See y'all next Thursday morning. I just found out I'm not leaving for Turkey till mid May :) :) :)Good news!! Hope to meet you in a few days.
Wheeew, whooo! ;D See y'all next Thursday morning. I just found out I'm not leaving for Turkey till mid May :) :) :)
I've been lucky, knock on wood, never got picked. But Kathie did. She got picked for Federal Grand Jury duty and nobody got out of it. She had to drive to Tampa every Wednesday for a year and a half. Her company paid her for jury duty until they found out how long it was and just made Wednesday her new day off.Year and a half :o that sucks...
Some flight shooting,I got to test out the long bow from Del,160 yards with a 560Hey Pappy, with a 400gn arrow, small flights and a 28" draw I've had 240 yards out of that baby! ;D
grain arrow,I didn't think that was to bad,not sure ??? :-\ Jon down to the knots and lay out on his Osage. Me cutting some nocks in my V.M. bow getting ready for the long string. Some relaxing and me cutting out Jon's snaky Osage. ;) :)
Pappy
What happened to Will's hair? He get the Mange?
A lot I am sure but he ant sharing and I ant sure I want him to. It's one thing to use beaver balls but Will facial hair, they may be pushing it a bit for me. ;) :) :)
Pappy
Parnell, those prints Chuck is holding in the picture are from Bohning Archery. Chuck bought the fiberglass bow kit with the fire hose form. It does kinda look like a bridge in the drawing :)
I'd love to one day, Pappy. It is on my list. ;)Let me know Pat and I will plan a trip too. Maybe Isaac would come.
Dang Tiller,be wondering about you. Glad all is going good for you,and yes we are still at it. Things don't change much around TwinOaks, the people come and go but
what goes on don't change much. ;) :) Hope you can make it back someday. :) :)
Pappy
Whoooa, Tiller is back ;D. Good to see you on here, Dave. :)
Ya it was fun Eddie. Sorry we missed you Tracy,we did shoot quite a bit. Tiller sounds like you have you hands full for now. Good to here from you and keep us updated on The Hickory. Got my new Osage floor tillered and on the form last evening, decided to make one for me this time, hunting season will be here before you know it and I always like to have at least 1 or 2 new bows to start out the season. ;) :) :) the last 3 haven't gone so well,2 broke and 1 came in under weight and went to Jon's son. He needed a new bow any way. :) Maybe this one will work out,we will see. ;) :)
Pappy
Life was not to good going down to the farm this morning. Found downed oak trees across the entrance.
Well me and a prospect Bobby B after about 2 hours with a chain saw and the Kabota we ooened the path to Trad Meca....
Sounds good, got a working and meeting Saturday, supposed to be just a meeting but things happen and we really need some clean up stuff done. ??? :) Got my Osage off the form last evening/nocks cut and back/sides/belly all cleaned up and ready for the long string and tiller stick. :) Looks good so far. Very nice piece of Osage so maybe will turn out a good shooter for the hunting season. :) :)Pics man! >:( Which form did you use on this bow? Seems like the reflex/deflex is getting a lot of action these days.
Pappy
No I use one we have that adds about 3 inches of reflex,Will has used the R/D a lot more than I. :) I only use it when the stave calls for it, only done 2 on it myself ,that meaning it already has some de flex in it naturally. I will have some pictures of the progress Monday hope to have it braced by then. ;) :) :)Going have to see one of those R/D bows built sometime in TN.
Pappy
;) ;D ;D ;D ;D,sometimes I amaze myself with my insight and wisdom. ;D ;D ;D ???Haaaa haaa ha! I bet you do.
Pappy
I need to report that those birds didn't survive the weekend. The PRRC crew put some holes in them as we shot our way through and picked targets. Gonna miss that Tennessee pink though!!
WeeWicky/Logan and Megan, all great kids,we love our kids. :) As you can see they had fun.
Pappy

That's alright, I know where they raise them :).
is that the same Ron LaClair thet writes articles for Muzzleloader Magazine? If it is I just read his poem in the latest issue.
I meet him 20 + years ago
at Cloverdale,he don't go there anymore for some reason. :-\ Seems some don't care for him up that way. Pappy
How did it split Matt? I left mine whole and sealed. Cody said his was a barber pole! He said the elm he grabbed was excellent though. No surprise, elm is good stuff.
Hey Pappy, looks like ya had another real good weekend, Bridge looks real good. Got a question on your beaver ball materials, are those hides Beaver hides in the picture or Nutria. Take Care Bob
Congratulations! I didn't recognize you at first Pappy. I don't think I've ever seen you without the bibs or camo on ;DHey congrats from Me & Mrs Cat too, I only just noticed those pics. You scrub up nicely...
He's still growing and I aint! :P I wish I could bring him to the Classic, but it falls right during state testing at school, so I doubt he will get to make it. We'll see.

There are things a young man can learn at the classic that he won't learn in school these days 8) ...cool y'all got to stop in at pappy's ;)
Clint, you must be looking at Pappy! ;)

Yep,Beau just texts me and said he just shot a coyote just a few minutes ago,he is off for a few days to hunt and looks like he is taking advantage of it. :) :) Wished I was off with him. ;) :)
Pappy
I like that design Jon has going on his new knife. Looks really useful.
Is there a name for that style blade?
Yea, snow here a little bit while I was in the woods this morning, ice pellets really, windy too. Was gonna come down for a few days with you guys, but a couple weeks ago I was putting up a ladder stand and half way up to secure the top, stand started to fall so I jumped about 5 or 6 ft., landed on my feet, but hurt my right heel, couldn't put weight on it for awhile,so I was off work for a few weeks. Have fun and shoot straight. BDanSorry to hear that. Heal up soon.
I heard Eddie got a deer, where did you see the pictures. BDanIts on fb.... Brian
Beau has already struck, I got to get down there before he kills them all ,and to beat it all it is my 7 point, no respect at all. :)Looks like all the lessons you taught him are paying off Pappy. ;) But sometimes the student becomes the teacher!
Pappy
Hey Pappy, when we started getting out bees from Walter Kelley, we started getting better luck. We chose his Russian variety because of their incredible ability to tough out our winters and come thru smiling! Plus, they look so cute with the little fur hats with the red hammer and sickle.LOL.

Do you put a shot of vodka in the hive to see 'em through the winter?
Del
Man Michael that was great, thanks for that. ;) :)and a hearty Amen from me !
Pappy
Steve, tell Angie just to bring a few of those cakes with ya when ya come to the classic for old Brother Dan. I'll take care of them.
BDan
Hey Greg, If you are lookin for some excite ment try letting a Fisher or an Otter loose with a catch pole, Becareful they don't take it away from ya tie a knot in it and hand it back to ya :o >:( Bob
The pictures are good and bring back some great memories. This has been a crazy winter here also. 12 below this morning with 14" of snow. Been watching several bunches of bull elk with the spotting scope from the living room window. They haven't shed their horns yet. This is the first year so many bulls have been in that mountain side. My wife is a horn hunting fanatic and she can't wait until they start dropping horns. I made something for Miss Joanie out of a hippo tusk and am working on a couple more things for the raffle. Life is Good! Joe
Yep lots of memories Greg and a lot of yall are a big part of them for me. :)
Pappy
Spring cannot get here fast enough.
Thanks, looking forward to meeting you to pappy! Patrick
For those interested in contributing, eating the Thursday Night Boil at the Classic, I have started a thread in "Primitive Shoots & Events"look forward to seeing you but won't be in till friday night. Are you guys selling jelly again this year?
Matt
Man Pappy I cant wait to get back down to the Classic, me and some Pa guys and gals will be rollin in Thursday...I gotta glance through all your pictures in this, Life is Good section from time to time to keep from getting withdrawl...I love the Classic!
24 days
Hope to have a beer or 2...or 10...with ya BearWell of course that will happen.
Steve, are you gonna bring your horn bow you are building? Might be able to get some pointers from James Parker about your progress...plus, I like to see it too. ;)
Is Angie coming with you this year? I'm sure you'll have plenty of room for her in that tent complex you use. ;D
JW and his young then friend, Isaac made a visit to our place some time ago and I was very impressed with Isaac. Hope to met up with him at the Classic! In the mean time I am slowly getting ready for my "Classic Road Trip"! Am looking forward to seeing all of you special people! Joe
Kevin that is great news, so glad it worked out, I got a truck also so no sweat on the pick up. ;) :) Enjoyed it also Dave and that rent will come in handy on them dark nights. ;) :) I'm with you Guy, I hardly remember my own name as it is. :) :) Matt that did sound a little Yankee- like ;) ;D ;D yee hawww much better. ;) :) I have to be careful here seems the big majority of folks at the Classic are Yanks. :) :) It's what I call mending fence's , I am a peace maker ya know, ;) Ya right. ;) ;D ;D ;D It is pretty cool though if you think about it, how so many people come from so many different places and ways of life and never a cross word do you here ,much less a fight. :) That says a lot about the folks we hang with. :)
Pappy
Thanks for all you do Pappy
Tell Miss Joanie thanks
Let the folks know we are grateful they let us come enjoy a wee bit of what they have as most of us out here don't have anything like it!!
Thank you Twin Oaks and company !
Steve, don't forget to pick up Roger's pine needle basket. See you guys when you get there.
Great pictures and story Pappy! It was almost like reliving the whole thing over again! PatrickYep.
Hop Horn beam, we call it Iron wood for short. :)Cheers :)
Pappy
I knew you would, don't think I seen anything about point weight, just that they had to be glue on ??? not sure what else you would use on wood or Cain. ;) ;D ;D Guard your arrows , I may try and tweak them just a bit ,of course just to be sure they are all good and straight. >:D ;) :)
Pappy
I am so bummed right now, :-[ I came in to work, in a hurry because of being behind at work and somehow deleted all my 220 pictures off my camera ??? >:( ,Miss Joanie says she thinks she can recover them, Hope so. Had some great stuff from the selfbow Hunters Challenge and all the other stuff going on. :) Update in the morning. :)
Pappy
Thanks guys, it was a good time for sure that we both really enjoyed. We are both so structured in our life it helps to just go with nothing really to do if you know what I mean, ;)don't want to do it ever weekend but really nice once in a while for a change of pace. :)really nice just to change the pace.
Pappy
We had a great weekend here too Pappy. My daughter shot her first deer during our rifle deer hunt. Nice doe. She is very busy with school.and related activities that its hard to get her to the woods. She had the entire day open Saturday So we made the best of it. We sat from 6am -10 and then noon til 6:35 when she finally got an opportunity 5 minutes before quitting time. Solid lung shot. She was so excited. Now to just get her one with the bow.
Pappy, glad to hear your surgery went well. And glad to hear you're at the cabin. That place has restorative powers.
And Amen to what Blackhawk, said.
Have a good one Pappy! ;).... Brianwish I lived closers so we could hang out more
Have a good one Pappy! ;).... Brianwish I lived closers so we could hang out more
Mark, Miss Heather won't let me put anymore skins in my freezer. I need to frame up and scrape a couple of hides. What size do you make your frames for whitetails?
Good luck! My season sucks so far this year. between Tenn, SC, and Ga last weekend I've driven 2700 miles this year and seen three deer, all at your place. At least our season goes till Feb 22.Eddie if you want to see deer you are invited to my place next year. Southeast Iowa has some of the largest deer in the nation.
I know for you Northern and western boys this ant much snow but we woke up Sunday morning to cold and snow at least cold for us Tennessee folks. :) Also had quite the adventure getting Case's deer out, it was raining and sloppy in the woods, I went in the Kobota to get it and slid off in a gully, laid it over on it side, :-[ lucky I managed to jump out without getting hurt to bad. :-\ Just jammed a thumb and a little sore but other than that no worse for wear. Took the wench and stood it back upright and then had to get Kevin/Scott to come over with my Dodge 4x4 and pull me up out of the woods, yep that is what memories are made of, we will laugh about it in a few years. :-\ Hope yall had a good one. I know I did. Life is Good. :)We have had our share of mishaps at Twin Oaks.. Glad you are ok. Sorry to hear you are down on your back..hate it for ya.
Pappy
Have fun, JW, we can Bunny hunt at the beach.wow just rub it in Eddie!
Took a rough phone call this morning. A friend called to tell me we have lost half of our beehives already this winter. I was absorbing this when he told me that another friend had passed away two nights ago. Ken was active in pretty near EVERY hunting, fishing, and outdoor conservation organization in the whole state. He served numerous terms on boards of directors for those organizations. He was always generous with his time and his money and his not inconsiderable influence when he felt the organization was headed in the right direction.
Five and a half years ago when Maggie and I announced we were starting the Black Hills Raptor Center with no budget, no resources, just hope, Ken walked up to me to shake my hand. In his hand was a healthy wad of large denomination bills. He looked me in the eye and said "Feed the birds, teach the kids. Do that and I will back you." We ran off that cash until we had a revenue stream started up. I always felt he was the third founder of this non-profit.
You would all have loved him, and he would have loved this crowd, as well. He instinctually got it, this whole "passing it along" idea. I have never liked bourbon particularly, especially the cheap stuff, but tonight I am raising a glass of Cabin Still to Ken.
You are a fine fellow, Pappy. You make us all proud to know ya, even just on the internet. Thanks for the pics and sharing your interesting life. No reply needed. I just like to express my gratitude, occasionally.
Be pretty cool to have people bring you signs for your post from the far out points, Pappy. Good pictures.I really LIKE that idea. If you make a really BIG Tall post Pappy with extra room on it, I'll try to get a sign started for our little clan of shavings and splinters makers here.
At the end of the day you should be working on emptying the rum flask ;D ;D
That is a premium set of billets there, Chuck. I'm jealous.x2 !!
<snip>and it works faster and better with several hands and of course I share. ;) :)
Pappy
Pappy must have slept in this morning. ::)
That's a fact DC, usually late late at night. ;)Shortly after the bars close ;D
Pappy
Pink? Looks like I have it all worked out. I switched weekends with a guy at work, so I should be there my usual Saturday before. It has become a small tradition to set up a tent on Saturday and watch as the area gradually fills up. Osage Outlaw usually rolls in a day or two after me, then Stringman and Dave. Before you know it, our campsite is complete. Stringman has the biggest skillet I have ever seen, and it sure comes in handy. Many a pound of bacon has been sizzled on that thing. Well, I better hush. I'm wishing I was there already! :)
I know this, it's gonna get mighty skinny around here in a few days!!
I know this, it's gonna get mighty skinny around here in a few days!!
And our season ends tomorrow, JW.
Great fun, thanks to all that came out. Hope to have some pictures up in a day or 2 when I catch my breath. Life is good. Pappy
Missed you also Patrick, I am trying to keep her off the rabbits, I plan on making a deer tracking dog out of her. ;) :) I raised them for years but have been without one for 4 or 5 years now and really want another. I think she will be good for that and not as hard to leash train or handle on a leash in the woods as the Red bones I always used before. Getting to old and slow to handle them big dogs anymore. ;) :) :)
Pappy
Awesome pictures as usual! I'd love to come back up there and work on my lambow blank. It's just sitting in my bedroom right now mad I haven't finished it. : )

See ya Friday around noon then.
We will be there, I will be in and out on the bushhog but usually several others around. Jon is usually there until noon at least. ;) Come visit. :)
Pappy
Looks like another great weekend at Twin Oaks. Pappy, what are you going to do when you run out of horns to work on?
One week from today, and I'll get my Twin Oaks fix. I plan on leaving around 5am on the bike, that should put me there around 9 or so. Man do I need a break.
Miss Barb and Davey camped with us and had a great time. He must have seen a dozen people that he knew from the Classic. One guy chased him down in the big tent, calling "Mister, Mister, Mister remember me you helped me make a bow at the Classic. Best bow I own." Davey was prouder than a puppy with 2 peters after that. He beamed for the rest of the day.
Thanks guys, as I said means a lot to her when she reads theses and also to me. Also today is Miss Joanie and my 43rd anneversty, what a way to spend it, all is good though and she is holding up really well, she is a strong lady just like MawMaw. Pappy
Friday and headed to the cabin as soon as I can get away from here, looking forward to it. We have the 24th White tail Classic Saturday, it is a fun little laid back shoot that I get to see a lot of my old hunting buddies that I only see a few times a year, then in the afternoon we have the TwinOaks Bash, it is sort of our last big get together with family and friends before the season kicks off. ;) Great food by us and the ladies and usually a little camp fire music , generally just hanging out and shooting the bull. I have a few projects to pittle with but mostly just getting all my gear [bows, arrows ] ready for the 24th. Hope yall have a great weekend also. ;) Life is Good. :)sounds like a real fun weekend lineup.
Pappy
Great pictures Shawn, glad you made it home safe. It's Friday and you know where I am headed as soon as I can get out of here, you guessed it , the Cabin. Got a few things in the shop I want to do and also 3 deer to cut/wrap and put away, may even cook some of the fresh inner loins for supper. I plan on hunting this evening and Saturday, maybe even Sunday morning early. :-\ The weather has finely cooled and looks to be a good weekend, the White Oaks have finely started to fall here and with the beans turning brown the woods should be very active in the Oaks and persimmons . Hope yall have a good one also. :) Glad the site is back up, I was going through withdrawals. ;) :) Life is Good. ;)The site went down....ok I thought it was my phone going crazy.
Pappy
Congratulations guys, fine looking Does. I heard Shane's working on getting more horns and tell Little John to dump that Pyrodex and get some real powder :).
JW: To bad your neighbor is too stupid to realize that if he helped you with the waste water effort instead of over the top opposition the raptor center would be a very wonderful place to visit. Your other message concerning your beautiful owl friend brought back some very sad memories when our cockatiel died. Joe
Pappy, could you post a close-up of the vice that Linda and Bill are using. I don't think I've ever seen anything like that.
Gutshot it's great to have your teenagers that excited. Sometimes they don't want anything to do with their uncool parents.
Merry Christmas all
Bjrogg
Congratulations Pappy. You've earned a good retirement after 36 years.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e3DiExjmZTQ
Pappy, I can't wait to see the projects you get done around there once you retire. You might cause some of the club members to drop a few lbs from working them harder ;D
I saw some yer Posse at OHLBC club on Sunday shooting with Dewayne and soame of his guys from BH. Brandon was there. Said the drywall was in! Now I see. Should be nice to cut meat in there when the weather dips next fall. Poplar looks good. Got Gil out the house and took him shooting as well.
See ya later this week!
Everything is looking great Pappy. You guys are awesome. Looking forward to spending a little time in the new kitchen. Boy, is Greg gonna miss the fun.
I bet Greg shows up Pat, I mean he is a fixture at the Classic. ;) :) Got the stove cover and ventilation system all cleaned up yesterday and almost ready to install once the white board is finished , stainless steal ??? who would have known. ;) :) The way we are building this is should make cooking and especially the clean up much easier , so we are starting out with everything spick and span and hope to keep it that way. :-\Well, yeah. I don't know how the Classic can go on without me, but I guess you'll manage. >:D. Pappy, what day will you "move in" at the club. If you are going to be there early, I may come out for a day or two or three. I know you are usually there the week before, but didn't know for sure what day you would start.
Pappy
Bob McMinn will probably be there on Tuesday again this year. Sorry you'll miss us Greg. ;)Yeah, I'm pretty bummed you won't get to see me Pat ;)
Pat, I always load my tent wood stove in the truck headed for the classic, Ya just never know, have dryed out some gear over the yrs with the wood heat , One yr in particular Ryan O had his stove and we could have made a fortune drying out wet sleeping bags (R (R (R, Bob
Thanks Shawn, I won't be there until Friday evening mid afternoon, Had a very close uncle pass and have to go the visitation today and funeral Friday at 1. He was my momma's younger brother by 2 years. There was 15 kids in her family and this is number 7 gone on to meet their maker. :( I Should be there by 3 or so Friday. Well my boys from AK. had a good hunt and are headed back home. 2 more down yesterday. I was hoping they could thin them down a bit more but they said they done all they could do. ??? John and Beau's Turkey yesterday morning, nice birds and super nice guys to be around. ;)
Pappy
I agree Matt,it was fine with me also, but this will be very nice and make the cooking and clean up go easier for the boil and Classic and the pavilion not as crowed. Can't have to many roofs to get under at the Classic. (R
Pappy
Looking forward to seeing all the improvements. Though, it was just fine the way it was, also.
The new window looks like y'all are ready for Drive- Thru orders. ;)
My thoughts exactly, Eddie. Ice cream and french fries. :OK
Everything looks great, Pappy.
My thoughts exactly, Eddie. Ice cream and french fries. :OK
Everything looks great, Pappy.
Do you want to "Supersize" your fries? Don't forget the Pappy Burger!
Tic toc it's getting close, can't wait
Matt you want to camp in the same spot as last year ??
Pappy
I see.WOW!!!! that's a bunch of bows. The old tillering tree got a work out then.Does a person speak up ahead of time for those glue ups of James'?One of the things I missed was the diversity of different woods from different parts of the country.Good horse trading time!Getting there early proved to be beneficial for getting the prime staves....lol.
I know DVS is tireless mentoring at Mo Jam making bows.A fair amount of bows built there then too.I would suppose the saturday night feed there feeds 75 people for sure.I could be wrong though.
Pappy , I remember Ryan O telling me about Justin bringing a bunch of obsidian, it was the yr. before I started coming around, at least 8 yrs of material to go thru. Bill probably recovered enough tools to start a store, Half of them are probably Eddie's :o ;D Poor scouts ::) Bob
I want you to load that thing up with forks and shoot a turkey.
Clint, Mythbusters showed that flatware wasn't a very effective load for a cannon or blunderbuss. :-M
Friday and a big weekend planned, we got all the material in for the new shed project, now if all the boys will show up to work we hope to get it at least framed and a roof on this weekend. The weather is going to be hot and looks iffy on rain so we will see how that goes, if it rains I always have something to do in the shop. ;) [Happy Father's day by the way] ;) :) :) Hope yall all have a good one. ;) See ya Monday. :)wish I was closer I would pitch it.
Life is Good. :)
Pappy
I will have some pictures up in a day or so , as soon as I catch up here at work. :)
Pappy
Well 44 years ago today Miss Joanie and I tied the knot after 7 years of dating ,we started going together when we were 14 and married at 21,WOW most of our life ,not sure how she has put up with me this long but very glad she has. ;) :) She is like a well seasoned piece of Osage, just gets better with time. :) Her Tiller gets off from time to time but a few scraped here and there and right back in line. ;) YA RIGHT , hope she don't read this our Life might not be so good after all. :-M ;) (AT) ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D;D Congrats Pappy...
Pappy
Friday and headed to the cabin in a few minutes, may try and hunt a little while this morning but just to hot to stay in a stand long. I have had a pretty good first week of retirement but can tell it is going to take some time to get the swing of it. My schedule is all screwed up, just trying to get use to being able to do what I want when I want. Hope yall have a good one , see ya Monday. Life is Good, very different but still Good. ;) :) :)Yeah, retirement is tough ::) , but I'm sure you'll get the hang of it :)
Pappy
Pappy, don't throw that garage junk away til Clint gets to look it over. :OK
You do a pretty good job staying busy that's for sure. You make the youngsters look bad!
Looks like a good one, really like a lot of work. Chris needs that knife, I bought a blank from Alan at last year's classic. ;D
I'm going to try and get in the woods this weekend and see how the knee copes with logs and vines. Our gun season just opened last Saturday so the rest of us without 1st 9 days permits get to play now. I'm going after squirrels with my .300 BlackOut on my back just in case. Nobody I talked to saw a deer all during archery season. Game Managers have been letting them run dogs for hogs just before the season opens, dumbest thing they have done in years in my opinion.I don't know why I even bother to buy a license down here anymore.
Hey Eddie walnut spoons might make the soup taste a little nutty. ;D ???;D ;D ;D ::)
You guys certainly know how to have fun! City folks just have no idea what they are missing out on, maybe that's a good thing, sometimes ignorance is bliss.
Best wished for Davy's surgery. At least he has a cane maker handy. ;)
Thanks again for letting us come for the weekend. It was a much needed break from daily life. Why do you always make me stand next to the tallest club member for a picture ???.
Man it is good to hear from you Tiller, look forward to you making it back some day. We had a great weekend, got my shed all set and ready to move in and had a great time at the Expo, I will have some pictures up in a day or so. Running behind for some reason. The expo wasn't over until 6pm yesterday and then had to get all our stuff back to the cabin and put away so it was a late Sunday for me. Hope yall had a good one also.
Pappy
Can't wait Bear, when y'all coming in ?? Great day yesterday, cold and windy so I spent some time in the cabin Cleaning and straighten up a bit. Didn't know how may knives I had, still don't , but it is a bunch for sure. Also made some good scores, had a large Mink a buddy gifted me/ a large Green colored Boa that belonged to a friend we go to church with die, they use to raise them and aren't going to do it anymore so I told her as they die off I would love to have them, they have over 100, she came through yesterday, a beautiful 6 foot awesome green colored. Also on the way home found a beaver road kill and got a nice large tail. Bill just happened to have the right tools in his truck to cut it off for me, thanks Bill. :) Good day, now I have some skinning to do. Funny I didn't know we had any Mink or beaver around home, guess I was wrong. ???Cool find on the beaver Pappy...On the way to the Wright city bow gathering I picked up a couple of wings off a road killed hen turkey.Gave them to the host.Seems the old road hunting habits never leave a person.
Pappy
Knife finished, all except a little more sanding and a finish on the handle, turned out pretty good. Allen brought supplies for the Thunder chirt knap off at the Classic. ;)
Pappy
Great pics of the weekend, Pappy.
And Clint, I didn't miss your post of the cookie jar picture. Marshall is coming soon.....
No Tiller it is what I call a chicken snake/rat snake/garter snake, not sure of what they really are so all the same to me, :) lots of them around. No rattles in our area for some reason, copper heads but no rattlers. Not supposed to kill any snake in Tennessee, the one I sinned was a pet of some friends. ;) I have spent some time in the shop the last couple of days on some bow and knife projects and getting some stuff finished up. I got lots to do around the farm but seems the rain is never going to stop, I guess it will some day, at least it always has before. ;) :) :)
Pappy
Shawn showed up with a friend that wants to build a bow so I gifted him a winged elm and he went right to work with some guidance from Shawn and myself. We got it roughed in and floor tillered in a few hours and man was he proud, got to love that. Bill cut a couple of logs out of the road on the way to the stable and also brought back a cedar tree pulled up by the root, I saved it and decided to make another walking stick. I am getting older and can't have to many walking sticks. ;) :) :)
Pappy
Hey Ronnie. Love to see you back at the Classic again. Hope all s well with you and yours. :OKall is good work has setteled down now if I can just find some more help I’ll be able to take some time off and do something I wanna do.
Nice one Shawn but sure is a small bodied deer. (A)
Man, she is one cute little gal! You look tough as nails holding that sippy cup pappy. Might be a good thing to bring to Elm Hall next year, reduce spillage and all.
Pappy, what is the little notch at the handle end of the blade for?
ThanksPappy, what is the little notch at the handle end of the blade for?
its there so you can sharpen all the way back easier.
Not sure what to do with all the knives but I guess you can't have to many. :-\
:) :), any one that knows me knows I hate shipping , but if you come visit we might talk.
Pappy
Warm fire is Good. Separates us from the non fire builders. Gives us hot chow and allowed us to live in northern and most southern zones of the earth.
Hot Chow
Shawn~
Pappy, that is some mighty fine lookin scrim shaw, Bob
Russell, it is called scrimshaw. Lots of examples on Google.
Those Hides are lookin' GOOD. Thanks Pappy (=) ! Bob
Be sure and look me up when you get there, I won't be hard to find. ;)
Headed North to ElmHall MI. Stick bow shoot Sunday morning and won't be back until the 9th or 10th. Hope to see some of yall there. It is a great place and very good people. I can hardly wait, and I think the weather is cooler also. Life is Good. :) :)
Pappy
No Pappy level here WB, I just do my thing and got lots of friends that have the same mind set, feel very blessed having this place and especially friends that love it as I do. ;)
Sounds good Ed, I am not really picky on what I shoot, I of course would rather have a bigger , older deer with huge rack but I am more of an opportunist and bird in the hand kind of guy so unless my freezer is full, pretty much anything that gives me a shot with the exception of one with spots get an arrow sent it's way. ;) :) Plus never really figured out to tell how old they are until I get them on the ground and then it is to late to matter. ;) :) :)The large rack thing is not a priority with me either.I've been lucky enough here for it to happen a couple of times though as I'm sure anybody has that hunts long and hard enough.Old large does all get arrows sent their way. That means early born button bucks too as they are as large or larger as any older doe.
Pappy
Ya Ed I stumble across a large racked one now and then, nice when it happens but not really a priority to me either. I am a meat hunter but also like a bigger hide so a big doe fits the bill when i get the chance, seem my problem is I would rather have a big doe but seems I always see younger bucks more than doe, at least the ones that give me a shot, I tell my buddies that all I am seeing is bucks, they laugh and say that's a good problem to have. ??? Well it ant if you can only kill 2 of them and does are the same as unlimited in my area, 2 bucks only for the year no matter what you hunt with but you can kill 3 doe a day from opening week through end of season. :) It takes about 6 to feed me and Miss Joanie for the year [venison is about the only meat we eat]Sounds like you get more tags for deer there. Here 1 buck and 3 does for a land owner.Thats' usually enough for us as we eat a lot of fish [bluegills] too.Cost is $36.00 for those 4 tags.Oh yea 1 turkey tag either sex in the fall.No buying of a hunting license either then.
6 deer will do it if I don't make brats and jerky if I do, and I usually do then it takes a few more. :)
Pappy
Ya she was a hand full when she was younger, but has settled down now and is a big part of the family. :)
Pappy
Heading to the cabin for a few days, lots going on and the weather is not helping, ??? calling for rain again/cold and possibly snow showers, that's good maybe it will get all this weird weather out of it system and be pretty for the Classic :-\ Not likely but who knows, IT COULD HAPPEN. ;) :) :) Hope yall have a good one also. Life is Good. ;) :) :)
Pappy
Great to see you again Clint and nice to meet your new family. :OK
Me thinks You have that Knife thing, down to a Tee Pappy - looking good ! Thanks Bob
Great weekend, the shoot went well and everyone seemed to like the set up, I was so busy with the shoot and trying to get a few things done for our trip I didn't take a picture one ??? I guess I am getting old and when I though of pictures it was Saturday night after everything was over.
Headed down this morning to put new LED lights in my trailer and get my spike camp and day pack packed and load a few things in the trailer. We are heading out a week for tomorrow so time is short and still lots to do. :) Hope I don't forget something :-[ ;) ;) ;) I can hardly wait to smell that Mountain air. :) Life is Good. ;)
Pappy
We go to the flat tops in white river national forest, east of Meeker about 40 miles, Big fish lake/Marvine lake area, love it because their is no ATV's if you are in there it is on foot or horse so you don't have to worry if you are setting on top at day light after a 2 hour pack in someone will come putting up on a 4 wheeler or side by side, ;) pretty peaceful and don't see many people.
Pappy
On our way home, somewhere in Kansas. Be home about around noon tomorrow. No luck for me but of course Beau did, I got to be there and watch which was better than getting it myself. Lots of stories of Elk and bear. I will get some pictures up in a day or 2,got a lot of work ahead when we get home.😉👍life is good. PappyGlad Beau scored! We're heading up Thursday for our first big hunt. It's a bit less of a drive for us than for you. I still have yet to kill an elk with a bow, or a bull with anything. This might be the year. But I think that ever year. :)
Pappy, this is a bag I made for Jon Stewart's grand daughter with a foot from a bear hide he had. Just a thought for other parts of the hide. That shinnes

Working hides outside in January. You live in a different world, my friend. We're below 0F for the next couple weeks, if the forecasters are to be believed. I've got an elk hide bark tanning, but I don't think I'll be stretching it before March or April.
I sure do enjoy seeing all the stuff you guys do. Especially this time of year. (S)
I am sure it is here somewhere but I don't have a clue which page, :-\ I know their was some on the bow forum not to long back or I am sure if you ask there someone will give you the info you need. :)thank you Pappy! I read all the related treads, and I have already an idea of what to do! I just wanted to see if this life is good tread had something different! Thanks again
Pappy
Then the last thing for the weekend was to get Sally's grave covered with flat rock from the creek, now she can rest in peace, Sister and I had a peaceful evening by the fire after everyone left. very sad but that's the circle of life, here for a while and then gone. Hope yall had a good one also. Life is Good. :)
Pappy
Yep so true BJ. Miss Joanie said the first question she wants to ask the Good LORD when her time comes is why did you make Mosquito's , :) they are good for nothing :-\ and my question is what didn't you make Dogs live as long as we do :-\ :-\ :-\ just his plan I suppose and maybe I will understand some day. :)
Pappy
Sorry to hear about Sally Pappy.
I won't be able to make the Classic this year. We've had some family health issues that have used up most of our time off and resources. We are talking about taking a week long trip through Tennessee next spring and time it where we could stop by the Classic for a couple days. My wife loved it when we made it 2 years ago. I haven't done any bow making for a long time. A new job position and a new family keep me pretty busy. In about 2 months we will be grandparents for the first time. We are pretty excited about that. I sure miss seeing and talking to my primitive archery family.
See ya Thursday
Glad you liked the bag Pappy. The blade was forged by Dylan Holderman and I hafted the handle. The other item is a nipple pic. Sorry I didn't get the diorama there but it would have been too risky and expensive. Maybe next year I'll have 2 for the raffle table. Did the Floppy Rules get well distributed?
Thanks for the pics. Not quite as good as being there but appreciated just the same. Helps to soothe my frustration. :OK
JW sure looks dapper in the pics. Sorry I missed seeing him.
